  • PostgreSQL timezone does not match system timezone

    I have several PostgreSQL 9.2 installations where the timezone used by PostgreSQL is GMT, despite the entire system being "Europe/Vienna". I double-checked that postgresql.conf does not contain timezone setting, so according to the documentation it should fallback to the system's timezone. However, # su -s /bin/bash postgres -c "psql mydb" mydb=# show timezone; TimeZone ---------- GMT (1 row) mydb=# select now(); now ------------------------------- 2013-11-12 08:14:21.697622+00 (1 row) Any hints, where the GMT timezone could come from?     A friend of me recently dumped his Mac fpr a PC. He used Microsoft Office for Mac and has several hundred Files (Word, Excel) which were copied over to the new PC using a USB disk. Microsoft Office is now unable to read any of there files. I suspect this is because of little endian vs. big endian. Is there any tool which can converted all theses files automatically, doing this by hand would take ages.

  • AWS lighttpd: Sending a copy of requests to test.

    I have a load balanced service on AWS. So the ELB evenly distributes the load across my servers. Each server is running lighttpd that does logging and forwards the requests to my service (on the same machine). I have written a new version of the service. It is installed and running on an EC2 machine test1 (basically a mirror of our current server but the new service running instead of the original) and I have done some preliminary tests that look good. But what I would like to do is mirror a fraction of incoming traffic to the new version of the service so I can do some comparisons between an original version and the new version based on real traffic. Thus I was thinking I could modify one box behind the ELB to duplicate its traffic to the test1. I was thinking I could modify the configuration of lighttpd so that each request is mirrored/duplicated. i.e. the original service keeps responding as before but a mirror request is sent to test1 but the reply is just dropped). Unfortunately I have not been able to work this out. Any ideas on how I could mirror the requests from one box to itself and test1. Or any other ideas for testing.

This module provides : a common interface for accessing MySQL, PostgreSQL or other : databases. It appears to be working correctly for SQLite databases, but not MySQL. There's no file including pdo_mysql.so in /etc/php.d, and there is no copy of pdo_mysql.so in /usr/lib64/php/modules. I'm pretty sure I just need the driver file and a line in the PHP configuration. A yum search pdo mysql didn't turn up any useful packages, and Google has failed me. If I were on Ubuntu or Debian, I'd apt-get install php5-mysql and be done with it. So ... where in Red Hat land do I get a copy of pdo_mysql.so, and install it properly?

    Is there a way to untar a file with multiple tars inside? It's suppose to just untar everything inside including untarring the tars inside the tar... With windows it does it, quite annoying I can't figure it out on linux...   • How do special folders work on Windows 7?

    Hello, I did something silly and accidentally moved my my special folders (My Documents, My Music etc.) to the Desktop. Once I noticed my mistake I quickly moved them back. But now my System acts erratically. It continuously creates new empty folders on my Desktop. And I have now two folders named "My Pictures" in my home directory. One of which is magically linked to the one in Desktop while on the command line one one is actually visible. If I delete the superfluous folders on Desktop then the explorer crashes. It is all a big mess. Of course I checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\User Shell Folders and it looks all ok there. So here the question: As anybody got any informations on how Windows 7 handles the special folders which might help be clean up the mess? I am well versed in using both the command line or the registry editor.

  • 550 Forged HELO with postfix on debian lenny

    I'm running postfix on a debian lenny system. sending mail in general works without any problems. however some recipent mail systems return an error and I can't get a clue what is causing the problem. So far I suspect that this is either postfix setup itself or the reverse dns resolution. The mail server is running on a virtual server from my service provider. running the command hostname is returning my.domain however running host <ip-address> is returning some alias from the virtual server system. now i'm not quite sure if that is causing my problem????     I keep a log of phone calls like the following where the F column is LVM = Left Voice Mail, U = Unsuccessful, S = Successful. A1 1 B1 Smith C1 John D1 11/21/2012 E1 8:00 AM F1 LVM A2 2 B2 Smith C2 John D2 11/22/2012 E1 8:15 AM F2 U A3 3 B3 Harvey C3 Luke D3 11/22/2012 E1 8:30 AM F3 S A4 4 B4 Smith C4 John D4 11/22/2012 E1 9:00 AM F4 S A5 5 B5 Smith C5 John D5 11/23/2012 E5 8:00 AM F5 LVM This is a small sample. I actually have over 700 entries. In my line of work, it is important to know how many unsuccessful (LVM or U) calls I have made since the last Successful one (S). Since values in the F column can repeat, I need to take into consideration both the B and C column. Also, since I can make a successful call with a client and then be trying to contact them again, I need to be able to count from the last successful call. My G column is completely open which is where I would like to put a running total for each client (G5 would = 1 ideally while G4 = 0, G3 = 0, G2 = 2, G1 = 1 but I want these values calculated automatically so that I do not have scroll through 700 names).

  • Using Static Public IPs and Private DHCP IPs on the Same Router

    I have a subnet of public IP addresses that my ISP has provided me with. They are routed through my router (how profound) that has a a static IP. I have successfully assigned the IPs from that subnet to various devices on my network. This works just fine, they get their own public IP, they can access the Internet, and the Internet can access them. However, I would like to also assign some private IPs on my network through that same router and put them behind NAT. Is this even possible? Could a VLAN be of use? I would like to avoid putting another router on the network, which makes this is quite an awkward question.

    I'm trying to create a custom SNMP datasource for Cacti but despite everything I can check being correct, it is not creating the rrd file, or updating it even when I create it. Other, standard SNMP sources are working correctly so it's not SNMP or permissions that are the problem. Increasing the poller log level shows that it appears to not even be querying the data source, despite it being used? What should my next steps to debug this issue be?

    Hello, guys! We have here to web servers behind a router - one IIS and one Tomcat (on different machines / IP addresses). The domain is pointing to out external IP, which is forwarded to IIS (internal IP 192.168.1.10 for example). I'm trying to do the following: when [www.]ourdomain.com is entered the default web site on IIS have to be loaded (this part is ok), but when test.ourdomain.com is entered I want to redirect this request to another web server (192.168.1.11 for example). I created a site "test" on IIS and it is displayed when test.ourdomain.com is entered. Then I tried to redirect it with following rule: Requested URL matches the pattern: * (using wildcards) Condition: {HTTP_HOST} matches test.ourdomain.com Action type: Rewrite Rewrite URL: http://192.168.1.11/{R:0} but when I try to load test.ourdomain.com now I get IIS's error 404 page. Obviously I'm wrong :-) How can I do such a redirect?

    All operating system I use apart form Windows have a “Open with…” options for there Explorer, Finder, whatever. This is very useful as often more then one program can handle a given file extension. With the exception on zip file I generally have not seen such a function on Window. However since there is an exceptions it is possible. The questions I have is: How can a “Open with…” can be archived with windows? Is there perhaps a tool which can do it?

  • Change Management Software

    I manage an 80,000 user CIS application written in Uniface. Every form in the application, and many of its processes, are represented by .frm files. We have hundreds of these files and 5 instances of the application. Instances include multiple production installations which must be kept sync'd. We do not get MD5 from our vendor for files that are released to us as patches. We have been using a spreadsheet to track changes, but this is far from ideal. Is there a commercial application that can be purchased that will allow us to track changes to the instances? Thank you all! EDIT: Patches are released as zip files with either FRM files in them or SQL files or a mix of both. SQL files will contain statements that need to be run in Oracle. Patches are also assigned unique patch numbers.

  • 2Wire USB Network Adapter Not Working With Windows 7

    I installed Windows 7 on a separate drive, and everything works fine, but I can't get the above network adapter to work properly. It's displayed in Device Manager as a USB device, and I have the driver that makes it function in Vista, but when I run the Driver Wizard and direct it to directory where I have the Vista driver, it almost immediately says "Can't install driver." Is there any work around to this?

  • Load website and fill form from the command line

    Using the Linux command line (Bash shell) I like to load a specific website in my browser (normally Firefox, but other one would be ok as well as long it runs under Linux) and fill a pre-defined form with some data. Actually, this should run from a Makefile. Most of the form data is static and will be stored as variables in the Makefile, just some fields are to be filled manually before manually sending the form. I know how to load the website in question from the command line using: firefox <URL> But there seems no possibility to fill the form automatically with variables given on the command line. Is there a plugin, executable or JavaScript which allows me to do this? Any suggestions and hints are welcome. I don't mind coding some JavaScript.

  • Sync desktop Mac environment to laptop

    I spend the majority of my time working at my desktop Mac, which I have configured for my web development environment. My spouse has a MacBook for casual use, and I occasionally steal it back when I need to work off-site, or when travelling. The question is how to best synchronize the two so I can switch between them more readily. I've solved a few obvious things by using online services: Email is hosted on IMAP. Working files are in Dropbox. Source code is managed in git. However, the following are things I always miss when jumping on the laptop: Installed Applications (current versions) Installed libraries & utilities (/usr/local) Apache VirtualHosts & other configurations (/etc) Disk image files for VMs My current method is to connect the MacBook via Firewire target mode and rsync the /Users/me home directory, and then cherry-pick the other items I need from Applications, /etc and /usr/local. The problem with this method is that it can be very time consuming due to things like my virtual machine image files, cached emails, etc. How can I make this faster & easier? Can you recommend a solution for configuration management (so I can repeatably install & configure the same software on both), or synchronization (so I can bring the MacBook up to date nightly, over our home network)?

    I'm thinking about customizing my Windows 7's application icons, so that they all follow a specific theme (Token-like icons). This would involve using Resource Hacker (or similar) to patch each .exe. Not only this would be tiresome, but also it would require doing it again at each update of each application (nevermind that some could break just because it was tampered with). Instead, is there any way to launch an application with a specific icon? Ideally it would be something from the command-line (so I can make a shortcut), like this: launchwithicon.exe --app C:\myapp.exe --icon C:\myicon.ico Note that while it is possible to do something similar by setting the taskbar to "always combine, hide labels", I do not like this approach and instead am looking for something that works without combining the taskbar icons.

  • Windows 7 "Backup completed but some files were skipped"

    I set up Windows 7 Pro to backup my files to a network path (woohoo!) and chose to backup "data for newly created users, libraries", and my user folder (no system image). All went fine (although the first backup took ~12 hours for some ridiculous reason), but at the end it gave me a message that "Your backup completed, but some files were skipped. Click to see which files." I checked and the "files" skipped were my 3 network-mapped drives, which is perfectly fine and reasonable behavior (I certainly don't need it to back up my network-mapped drives as part of my local PC backup), but in the Backup and Restore center it warns me that my Last backup was "Never" and the Action Center now has a permanent "Check your backup results" issue. Is there any way to set up the backup to exclude the network-mapped drives or tell it that I really don't mind that it skipped drives I never asked it to back up?
