  • what do you do when you are stuck at programming and you don't have access to internet? [migrated]

    This is a question most of us have faced while programming. Getting stuck! It might be a programmatic problem or tool problem, most of us eventually face it. You know something is supposed to work some way but just doesn't. You tried a number of things to solve it but isn't helping and you are not sure why. I once remember being stuck hours at programming job. Eventually I figured out for some reason or other my IDE wasn't recompiling my new changes in some of the classes .This is just an example but I am sure most you have faced similar situation. So how would you go about solving it if you didn't have access to Google or Stack Exchange? Lets be honest, using internet you aren't solving the problem, somebody else is doing it for you. So if you didn't have access to internet or a friend who might help, how would you go about solving it?

  • Game Database Connectivity Java

    I'm developing a simple multi-player puzzle game in Java. Both players should be able to view the same game board on his own computer. Then, when one player makes an action in the game (ex. drags an object onto a coordinate space), the game's view should update automatically on the other computer's game screen. I'd like all this to happen over the internet, not requiring both computers to be on the same LAN connection. If I need to use SQL/PHP to accomplish this, I'm unsure how to design the database to accomplish something as simple as the following: Player A drags element onscreen Game sends coordinates of element to database/server Player B's computer detects a change to an item in the database Player B's computer grabs the coordinates of Player A's item Player B's machine draws onscreen elements at the received coordinates Could somebody point me in the right direction?

    I'm trying to grasp the semantics of call/cc in Scheme, and the Wikipedia page on continuations shows the yin-yang puzzle as an example: (let* ((yin ((lambda (cc) (display #\@) cc) (call-with-current-continuation (lambda (c) c)))) (yang ((lambda (cc) (display #\*) cc) (call-with-current-continuation (lambda (c) c)))) ) (yin yang)) It should output @\*@\**@\**\*@\**\**@..., but I don't understand why; I'd expect it to output @\*@\**\**\**\**\*... Can somebody explain in detail why the yin-yang puzzle works the way it works?

    I have created a certificate using the following SSL command: makecert -r -pe -n "CN=www.yourserver.com" -b 01/01/2000 -e 01/01/2036 -eku 1.3.6.1.5.5.7.3.1 -ss my -sr localMachine -sky exchange -sp "Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider" -sy 12 I assigned it to a web site on IIS, but when I try to hit the url of the web site I receive: "SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. (Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)" when using Firefox. May somebody help? Thanks

    I'm trying to set the preprocessor variable in wix and i'm unable to find an example of this or explanation on how to do it anywhere on the internet, i'm hoping somebody here can explain or show me where im going wrong! One client has issue with Windows 7 : in the end of startup/installation there is a message "cannot create shortcut". With our own Windows 7 machine we don't have problems and unfortunately we don't have much details yet.     To do DataBinding of the Document in a WPF RichtextBox, I saw 2 Solutions so far, which are to derive from the RichtextBox and add a DependencyProperty, and also the solution with a "proxy". Neither the first or the second are satisfactory. Does somebody know another solution, or instead, a commercial RTF control which is capable of DataBinding? The normal Textbox ist not an alternative, since we need text formating. Any idea?

  • Flex 4 and ScrollBar stepSize

    I want to specify amount to scroll with VScrollBar. So in Flex 3 we have "lineScrollSize" but how this property called in Flex 4? I thought it VScrolBar.stepSize — but it dose not do anything. Somebody please help me. I just whant my content to scroll faster on mouse wheel.
