  • Theory: Can JIT Compiler be used to parse the whole program first, then execute later?

    Normally, JIT Compiler works by reads the byte code, translate it into machine code, and execute it. This is what I understand, but in theory, is it possible to make the JIT Compiler parses the whole program first, then execute the program later as machine code? I do not know how JIT Compiler works technically and exactly, so I don't know any feasibility in this case. But theoretically, is it possible? Or am I doing it wrong?

    I'm trying to make a meta-language for writing markup code (such as xml and html) wich can be directly embedded into C/C++ code. As you can see the traditional tag-based style is substituted by C-like, with blocks delimited by curly braces. I need to build an interpreter to translate this code to html and posteriorly insert it into C, so that it can be compiled. The C part stays intact. Inside the wdi source it is not necessary to use prints, every return statement will be used for output (in printf function). The program's output will be clean html code. So, for example a heading 1 tag would be transformed like this: h1 { "Hello, " + toCapital(name) + "!"; } // would become: printf("<h1>Hello, %s!</h1>", toCapital(name)); My main goal is to create an interpreter to translate wdi source to html like this: tag(attributes) {content} = <tag attributes>content</tag> Secondly, html code returned by the interpreter has to be inserted into C code with printfs. Variables and functions that occur inside wdi should also be sorted in order to use them as printf parameters (the case of toCapital(name) in sample source). I am searching for efficient (I want to create a fast parser) way to create a lexer and parser for wdi. Already tried flex and bison, but as I am not sure if they are the best tools. Are there any good alternatives? What is the best way to create such an interpreter? Can you advise some brief literature on this issue?

I want to be able to capture a page event, then create a SharePoint task to instruct a user to translate that page to another language (note that MOSS and variations is not an option because the client wants to use the free version of SharePoint). So the customer wants essentially the same WSS site in multiple languages.

  • Converting OpenGL co-ordinates to lower UIView (and UIImagePickerController)

    Hi, I am new to OpenGL over iPhone. I am developing an iPhone app similar to a barcode reader but with an extra OpenGL layer. The bottommost layer is UIImagePickerController, then I use UIView on top and draw a rectangle at certain co-ordinates on the iphone screen. So far everything is OK. Then I am trying to draw an OpenGL 3-D model in that rectangle. I am able to load a 3-D model in the iPhone based on this code here - http://iphonedevelopment.blogspot.com/2008/12/start-of-wavefront-obj-file-loader.html I am not able to transform the co-ordinates of the rectangle into OpenGL co-ordinates. Appreciate any help. Do I need to use a matrix to translate the currentPosition of the 3-D model so it is drawn within myRect? The code is given below.. Appreciate any help/pointers in this regards.     Maybe this is just my unfamiliarity with unicode, so please correct me if I'm mistaken. Looking at http://json.org/, the spec says that a string can include "any UNICODE character", but this confuses me. JSON is a communication format correct? At the core of it, everything must translate down to bytes. In contrast, UNICODE is a logical format and must be encoded to be able to transmit it, right? So what did they mean there?

    I'm trying to rotate a canvas element AFTER it's been appended to the DOM. What kind of programming is this and where would I start reading to get into this sort of thing? specifically, controlling a camera, and getting it to pick out certain parts of an image and translate that data.

  • mouse wheel operates on scrollbar

    If a SWF file or even a component within it has scrollbars, wouldn't it make sense that if the user is hovered over that area (it's in focus) and uses the mouse wheel, that this movement would automatically translate to the scrollbar moving. Any ideas how this is done, the events or classes used for this? I'm open to outside components or classes too. I haven't started yet, but I'll do an item renderer because it's easy to give it scrollbar.
