Create user accounts Invite friends Have a friends list Write messages to each other (some kind of inbox system) Create posts on a standard message forum On top of this I will create some kind of game where users interact, so it must be posibble to extend the framework with new database tables and functionality.     What are the standard/practical steps required before moving to implementation of any Project/Task? Hi everyone, I liked stackoverflow very much and just got registered. As I am a beginner in programming, most of the time i just implement/code my tasks directly not even thinking of creating any dfd's, flowcharts or other tools for my new classes and methods. In some interviews i was asked what process you follow and i was confused as i am not very used to follow any standards. So If some experts can help me that what steps and in what order are the best practices for solving/approaching any task in programming. And how important these are?   • To be a lazy developer or not to be a lazy developer?

    Am I a lazy developer? Is it being lazy to use automated tools, such as code generators and such? Now, I could, if I had to, create all the data layers and entities I needed, but I choose to use CodeSmith to generate my datalayers and entities. I also use Resharper and I would say it fights with MSDeploy as to which gets installed first after Visual Studio. Again if I had to, I could code without it, but prefer not to. Both these tools from my point of view are no brainers as they improve output massively. But is this lazy? I'm sure there are purists out there that would say everything should be wirtten by you so you know what everything is doing, but if you can read through the code and see what is happening is that ok? So am I being lazy or am I just using all the cards in my hand?

  • Mouse management in JavaScript games

    Im using JavaScript, the HTML5 canvas-element and WebGL to make a simple 3D-game in first person view for fun. Ideally, I would like to control my movement by using the keyboard to move and the mouse to look around, like you usually do in FPS-games. As you probably understand, there are some limits to this in the browser, since the mouse cant be captured: When using the onmousemove event, no further movement will be detected when the mouse pointer reaches the border of my screen (which means that I wont be able to run in a circle for example) Seeing the mouse move across the screen is not the end of the world, but it is a little annoying From what I know, it's impossible to hide the mouse as well as setting it's position in JavaScript. Hence, my question is this: If we cant to those things, what can we do in order to get close to the desktop gaming experience when it comes to the mouse in the browser? And I mean right now, using current APIs. Not "what could be changed in some standard to make life easier". Also, I realize that I could use the keyboard to look around, but then we're back in 1995 when Quake were actually played like that. And of course I know that it would be easier to write a desktop application or use Flash at least, but Im trying to push JavaScript's limits here. Apart from those things, what are your suggestions? Any kind of reference, existing game, crazy idea, hack or even browser specific solution would be appreciated.

So this is the method I am currently working with: static void addToInventory(ref List<baseItem> myArray, baseItem item, float maxAmount, ref float currentAmount) { if (currentAmount + item.getWeight() <= maxAmount) { Console.WriteLine("item.Quantity = {0}", item.Quantity); if (myArray.Contains(item)) { Console.WriteLine("Item ({0}) already exists", item.Name); int id = myArray.IndexOf(item); myArray[id].Quantity += item.Quantity;//Change occurs in this line, item.Quantity becomes the same as myArray[id].Quantity } else { Console.WriteLine("Adding new item ({0})", item.Name); myArray.Add(item); } currentAmount += item.getWeight(); } else { Console.WriteLine("Inventory full"); } myArray.Sort(); } This method takes several parameters including the inventory/list. I check if the item fits in and if it does, I see if there is another item of the same name in the list, find the index, and add more of the item. However, the quantity of the item added suddenly becomes the same as the quantity of the item in the list. For some reason, this also changes the quantity of the item outside of the list. So therefore, instead of quantities adding up like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, they add up like this: 1, 2, 4, 8. I've just started to learn how to use lists so if there is anything I'm missing, don't hesitate to criticize. Thanks in advance.
