  • WPF BackgroundWorker Execution

    - by Sanju
    Hi All, I've been programming C# for a while now (I'm a Computer Science major), and have never had to implement threading. I am currently building an application for a client that requires threading for a series of operations. Due to the nature of the client/provider agreement, I cannot release the source I am working with. The code that I have posted is in a general form. Pretty much the basic idea of what I am implementing, excluding the content specific source. The first Snippet demonstrates my basic structure, The Progress class is a custom progress window that is displayed as a dialog to prevent user UI interaction. I am currently using the code to complete database calls based on a collection of objects in another area of the application code. For example, I have a collection of "Objects" of one of my custom classes, that I perform these database calls on or on behalf of. My current set up works just fine when I call the "GeneralizedFunction" one and only one time. What I need to do is call this function once for every object in the collection. I was attempting to use a foreach loop to iterate through the collection, then I tried a for loop. For both loops, the result was the same. The Async operation performs exactly as desired for the first item in the collection. This, however, is the only one it works for. For each subsequent item, the progress box (my custom window) displays and immediately closes. In terms of the database calls, the calls for the first item in the collection are the only ones that successfully complete. All others aren't attempted. I've tried everything that I know and don't know to do, but I just cannot seem to get it to work. How can I get this to work for my entire collection? Any and all help is very greatly appreciated. Progress progress; BackgroundWorker worker; // Cancel the current process private void CancelProcess(object sender, EventArgs e) { worker.CancelAsync(); } // The main process ... "Generalized" private void GeneralizedFunction() { progress = new Progress(); progress.Cancel += CancelProcess; progress.Owner = this; Dispatcher pDispatcher = progress.Dispatcher; worker = new BackgroundWorker(); worker.WorkerSupportsCancellation = true; object[] workArgs = { arg1, arg2, arg3}; worker.DoWork += delegate(object s, DoWorkEventArgs args) { /* All main logic here */ foreach(Class ClassObject in ClassObjectCollection) { //Some more logic here UpdateProgressDelegate update = new UpdateProgressDelegate(updateProgress); pDispatcher.BeginInvoke(update, arg1,arg2,arg3); Thread.Sleep(1000); } }; worker.RunWorkerCompleted += delegate(object s, RunWorkerCompletedEventArgs args) { progress.Close(); }; worker.RunWorkerAsync(workArgs); progress.ShowDialog(); } public delegate void UpdateProgressDelegate(arg1,arg2,arg3); private void updateProgress(arg1,arg2,arg3) { //Update progress }

  • Organising XML results as cells in container (AS3)

    - by PJ Palomaki
    Hi, I'm having some problems figuring out how to organise data pulled off XML in cells within a container. I'm sure this should be a basic thing in AS3, but my head's fried.. can anyone help? Basically an array if fed to callThumbs() which iterates through it and compares the entries with preloaded XML _my_images. If match is found, it's sent to processXML which loads all relevant info and loads a .jpg thumbnail. All this is then fed to createCell which creates a specific cell with position values depending on x_counter and y_counter values (4 cells in a row) and adds the cell into a container _container_mc. The Problem: This all works fine and looks fine, the problem is that the cells within the container do not display in descending order. They are in random order, probably because some of the .jpg's takes longer to load etc. How do I easily organise the cells within the container in descending order by the XML .id value? Or how do I tell Flash to wait till the thumbnail and data is loaded and the cell created and added? Thanks guys, would really appreciate all the help! PJ //Flash (AS3) function callThumbs(_my_results:Array):void { // selector = 1 for specific items, 2 for search items var _thumb_url:XML; for (var r:Number=0; r < _my_results.length; r++) { // iterate through results vector, compare with _my_images XML .id for (var i:Number=0; i < _my_images.length(); i++) { if (_my_images[i][email protected]() == _my_results[r]) { _thumb_url=_my_images[i]; processXML(_thumb_url, i); } } } } // End callThumbs function processXML(imageXML:XML, num:Number) { // Processes XML data and loads .jpg thumbnail var _thumb_loader=new Loader(); _thumb_loader.load(new URLRequest("thumbs/thumb_sm/" + imageXML.@id + "_st.jpg")); _thumb_loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,thumbLoaded); _thumb_loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, urlNotFound); var id:XMLList = new XMLList; id = imageXML.@id; var description:XMLList = new XMLList; description = imageXML.@description; function urlNotFound(event:IOErrorEvent):void { trace("The image URL '" + String(imageXML.@id) + "' was not found."); } function thumbLoaded(e:Event):void { var imageLoader:Loader = Loader(e.target.loader); var bm:Bitmap = Bitmap(imageLoader.content); createCell(bm, id, description, num); adjustFooterBar(); // Adjust bottom footer } } // End processXML private function createCell(_image:Bitmap, _id, _description:String, _position):void { // Creates a cell with data, add to container var _cell_mc = new CellTitle(); _cell_mc.initCell(_image, _id, _description, _position, x_counter, y_counter); if (x_counter+1 < 4) { x_counter++; } else { x_counter = 0; y_counter++; } _container_mc.addChild(_cell_mc); // movieclip container } // End createCell

  • Code in FOR loop not executed

    - by androniennn
    I have a ProgressDialog that retrieves in background data from database by executing php script. I'm using gson Google library. php script is working well when executed from browser: {"surveys":[{"id_survey":"1","question_survey":"Are you happy with the actual government?","answer_yes":"50","answer_no":"20"}],"success":1} However, ProgressDialog background treatment is not working well: @Override protected Void doInBackground(Void... params) { String url = "http://192.168.1.4/tn_surveys/get_all_surveys.php"; HttpGet getRequest = new HttpGet(url); Log.d("GETREQUEST",getRequest.toString()); try { DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); Log.d("URL1",url); HttpResponse getResponse = httpClient.execute(getRequest); Log.d("GETRESPONSE",getResponse.toString()); final int statusCode = getResponse.getStatusLine().getStatusCode(); Log.d("STATUSCODE",Integer.toString(statusCode)); Log.d("HTTPSTATUSOK",Integer.toString(HttpStatus.SC_OK)); if (statusCode != HttpStatus.SC_OK) { Log.w(getClass().getSimpleName(), "Error " + statusCode + " for URL " + url); return null; } HttpEntity getResponseEntity = getResponse.getEntity(); Log.d("RESPONSEENTITY",getResponseEntity.toString()); InputStream httpResponseStream = getResponseEntity.getContent(); Log.d("HTTPRESPONSESTREAM",httpResponseStream.toString()); Reader inputStreamReader = new InputStreamReader(httpResponseStream); Gson gson = new Gson(); this.response = gson.fromJson(inputStreamReader, Response.class); } catch (IOException e) { getRequest.abort(); Log.w(getClass().getSimpleName(), "Error for URL " + url, e); } return null; } @Override protected void onPostExecute(Void result) { super.onPostExecute(result); Log.d("HELLO","HELLO"); StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder(); Log.d("STRINGBUILDER","STRINGBUILDER"); for (Survey survey : this.response.data) { String x= survey.getQuestion_survey(); Log.d("QUESTION",x); builder.append(String.format("<br>ID Survey: <b>%s</b><br> <br>Question: <b>%s</b><br> <br>Answer YES: <b>%s</b><br> <br>Answer NO: <b>%s</b><br><br><br>", survey.getId_survey(), survey.getQuestion_survey(),survey.getAnswer_yes(),survey.getAnswer_no())); } Log.d("OUT FOR","OUT"); capitalTextView.setText(Html.fromHtml(builder.toString())); progressDialog.cancel(); } HELLO Log is displayed. STRINGBUILDER Log is displayed. QUESTION Log is NOT displayed. OUT FOR Log is displayed. Survey Class: public class Survey { int id_survey; String question_survey; int answer_yes; int answer_no; public Survey() { this.id_survey = 0; this.question_survey = ""; this.answer_yes=0; this.answer_no=0; } public int getId_survey() { return id_survey; } public String getQuestion_survey() { return question_survey; } public int getAnswer_yes() { return answer_yes; } public int getAnswer_no() { return answer_no; } } Response Class: public class Response { ArrayList<Survey> data; public Response() { data = new ArrayList<Survey>(); } } Any help please concerning WHY the FOR loop is not executed. Thank you for helping.

  • Windows Form hangs when running threads

    - by Benjamin Ortuzar
    JI have written a .NET C# Windows Form app in Visual Studio 2008 that uses a Semaphore to run multiple jobs as threads when the Start button is pressed. It’s experiencing an issue where the Form goes into a comma after being run for 40 minutes or more. The log files indicate that the current jobs complete, it picks a new job from the list, and there it hangs. I have noticed that the Windows Form becomes unresponsive when this happens. The form is running in its own thread. This is a sample of the code I am using: protected void ProcessJobsWithStatus (Status status) { int maxJobThreads = Convert.ToInt32(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MaxJobThreads"]); Semaphore semaphore = new Semaphore(maxJobThreads, maxJobThreads); // Available=3; Capacity=3 int threadTimeOut = Convert.ToInt32(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ThreadSemaphoreWait"]);//in Seconds //gets a list of jobs from a DB Query. List<Job> jobList = jobQueue.GetJobsWithStatus(status); //we need to create a list of threads to check if they all have stopped. List<Thread> threadList = new List<Thread>(); if (jobList.Count > 0) { foreach (Job job in jobList) { logger.DebugFormat("Waiting green light for JobId: [{0}]", job.JobId.ToString()); if (!semaphore.WaitOne(threadTimeOut * 1000)) { logger.ErrorFormat("Semaphore Timeout. A thread did NOT complete in time[{0} seconds]. JobId: [{1}] will start", threadTimeOut, job.JobId.ToString()); } logger.DebugFormat("Acquired green light for JobId: [{0}]", job.JobId.ToString()); // Only N threads can get here at once job.semaphore = semaphore; ThreadStart threadStart = new ThreadStart(job.Process); Thread thread = new Thread(threadStart); thread.Name = job.JobId.ToString(); threadList.Add(thread); thread.Start(); } logger.Info("Waiting for all threads to complete"); //check that all threads have completed. foreach (Thread thread in threadList) { logger.DebugFormat("About to join thread(jobId): {0}", thread.Name); if (!thread.Join(threadTimeOut * 1000)) { logger.ErrorFormat("Thread did NOT complete in time[{0} seconds]. JobId: [{1}]", threadTimeOut, thread.Name); } else { logger.DebugFormat("Thread did complete in time. JobId: [{0}]", thread.Name); } } } logger.InfoFormat("Finished Processing Jobs in Queue with status [{0}]...", status); } //form methods private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { buttonStop.Enabled = true; buttonStart.Enabled = false; ThreadStart threadStart = new ThreadStart(DoWork); workerThread = new Thread(threadStart); serviceStarted = true; workerThread.Start(); } private void DoWork() { EmailAlert emailAlert = new EmailAlert (); // start an endless loop; loop will abort only when "serviceStarted" flag = false while (serviceStarted) { emailAlert.ProcessJobsWithStatus(0); // yield if (serviceStarted) { Thread.Sleep(new TimeSpan(0, 0, 1)); } } // time to end the thread Thread.CurrentThread.Abort(); } //job.process() public void Process() { try { //sets the status, DateTimeStarted, and the processId this.UpdateStatus(Status.InProgress); //do something logger.Debug("Updating Status to [Completed]"); //hits, status,DateFinished this.UpdateStatus(Status.Completed); } catch (Exception e) { logger.Error("Exception: " + e.Message); this.UpdateStatus(Status.Error); } finally { logger.Debug("Relasing semaphore"); semaphore.Release(); } I have tried to log what I can into a file to detect where the problem is happening, but so far I haven't been able to identify where this happens. Losing control of the Windows Form makes me think that this has nothing to do with processing the jobs. Any ideas?

  • Simple Detached pThread does not cancel! (cout blocks and interleaves even if mutexed)

    - by Gabriel
    I have a hard problem here, which I can not solve and do not find the right answer on the net: I have created a detached thread with a clean up routing, the problem is that on my Imac and Ubuntu 9.1 (Dual Core). I am not able to correctly cancel the detached thread in the fallowing code: #include <iostream> #include <pthread.h> #include <sched.h> #include <signal.h> #include <time.h> pthread_mutex_t mutex_t; using namespace std; static void cleanup(void *arg){ pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << " doing clean up"<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } static void *thread(void *aArgument) { pthread_setcancelstate(PTHREAD_CANCEL_ENABLE,NULL); pthread_setcanceltype(PTHREAD_CANCEL_DEFERRED,NULL); pthread_cleanup_push(&cleanup,NULL); int n=0; while(1){ pthread_testcancel(); sched_yield(); n++; pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << " Thread 2: "<< n<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } pthread_cleanup_pop(0); return NULL; } int main() { pthread_t thread_id; pthread_attr_t attr; pthread_attr_init(&attr); pthread_attr_setdetachstate(&attr,PTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED); int error; if (pthread_mutex_init(&mutex_t,NULL) != 0) return 1; if (pthread_create(&thread_id, &attr, &(thread) , NULL) != 0) return 1; pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "waiting 1s for thread...\n" <<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); int n =0; while(n<1E3){ pthread_testcancel(); sched_yield(); n++; pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << " Thread 1: "<< n<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "canceling thread...\n" <<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); if (pthread_cancel(thread_id) == 0) { //This doesn't wait for the thread to exit pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "detaching thread...\n"<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); pthread_detach(thread_id); while (pthread_kill(thread_id,0)==0) { sched_yield(); } pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "thread is canceled"; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); } pthread_mutex_lock(&mutex_t); cout << "exit"<<endl; pthread_mutex_unlock(&mutex_t); return 0; } When I replace the Cout with printf() i workes to the end "exit" , but with the cout (even locked) the executable hangs after outputting "detaching thread... It would be very cool to know from a Pro, what the problem here is?. Why does this not work even when cout is locked by a mutex!? Thanks a lot for your support!!

  • Java List to Excel Columns

    - by Nitin
    Correct me where I'm going wrong. I'm have written a program in Java which will get list of files from two different directories and make two (Java list) with the file names. I want to transfer the both the list (downloaded files list and Uploaded files list) to an excel. What the result i'm getting is those list are transferred row wise. I want them in column wise. Given below is the code: public class F { static List<String> downloadList = new ArrayList<>(); static List<String> dispatchList = new ArrayList<>(); public static class FileVisitor extends SimpleFileVisitor<Path> { @Override public FileVisitResult visitFile(Path file, BasicFileAttributes attrs) throws IOException { String name = file.toRealPath().getFileName().toString(); if (name.endsWith(".pdf") || name.endsWith(".zip")) { downloadList.add(name); } if (name.endsWith(".xml")) { dispatchList.add(name); } return FileVisitResult.CONTINUE; } } public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException { try { Path downloadPath = Paths.get("E:\\report\\02_Download\\10252013"); Path dispatchPath = Paths.get("E:\\report\\01_Dispatch\\10252013"); FileVisitor visitor = new FileVisitor(); Files.walkFileTree(downloadPath, visitor); Files.walkFileTree(downloadPath, EnumSet.of(FileVisitOption.FOLLOW_LINKS), 1, visitor); Files.walkFileTree(dispatchPath, visitor); Files.walkFileTree(dispatchPath, EnumSet.of(FileVisitOption.FOLLOW_LINKS), 1, visitor); System.out.println("Download File List" + downloadList); System.out.println("Dispatch File List" + dispatchList); F f = new F(); f.UpDown(downloadList, dispatchList); } catch (Exception ex) { Logger.getLogger(F.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } int rownum = 0; int colnum = 0; HSSFSheet firstSheet; Collection<File> files; HSSFWorkbook workbook; File exactFile; { workbook = new HSSFWorkbook(); firstSheet = workbook.createSheet("10252013"); Row headerRow = firstSheet.createRow(rownum); headerRow.setHeightInPoints(40); } public void UpDown(List<String> download, List<String> upload) throws Exception { List<String> headerRow = new ArrayList<>(); headerRow.add("Downloaded"); headerRow.add("Uploaded"); List<List> recordToAdd = new ArrayList<>(); recordToAdd.add(headerRow); recordToAdd.add(download); recordToAdd.add(upload); F f = new F(); f.CreateExcelFile(recordToAdd); f.createExcelFile(); } void createExcelFile() { FileOutputStream fos = null; try { fos = new FileOutputStream(new File("E:\\report\\Download&Upload.xls")); HSSFCellStyle hsfstyle = workbook.createCellStyle(); hsfstyle.setBorderBottom((short) 1); hsfstyle.setFillBackgroundColor((short) 245); workbook.write(fos); } catch (Exception e) { } } public void CreateExcelFile(List<List> l1) throws Exception { try { for (int j = 0; j < l1.size(); j++) { Row row = firstSheet.createRow(rownum); List<String> l2 = l1.get(j); for (int k = 0; k < l2.size(); k++) { Cell cell = row.createCell(k); cell.setCellValue(l2.get(k)); } rownum++; } } catch (Exception e) { } finally { } } } (The purpose is to verify the files Downloaded and Uploaded for the given date) Thanks.

  • Cannot decode complete cipher list in .NET SslStream handshake.

    - by karmasponge
    While attempting to move from a 'C' based SSL implementation to C# using the .NET SslStream and we have run into what look like cipher compatibility issues with the .NET SslStream and a AS400 machine we are trying to connect to (which worked previously). When we call SslStream.AuthenticateAsClient it is sending the following: 16 03 00 00 37 01 00 00 33 03 00 4d 2c 00 ee 99 4e 0c 5d 83 14 77 78 5c 0f d3 8f 8b d5 e6 b8 cd 61 0f 29 08 ab 75 03 f7 fa 7d 70 00 00 0c 00 05 00 0a 00 13 00 04 00 02 00 ff 01 00 Which decodes as (based on http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/pki/nss/ssl/draft302.txt) [16] Record Type [03 00] SSL Version [00 37] Body length [01] SSL3_MT_CLIENT_HELLO [00 00 33] Length (51 bytes) [03 00] Version number = 768 [4d 2c 00 ee] 4 Bytes unix time [… ] 28 Bytes random number [00] Session number [00 0c] 12 bytes (2 * 6 Cyphers)?   • Android: MediaPlayer gapless or seamless Video Playing

    - by John Wang
    I can play the videos fine back to back by implementing the OnCompletionListener to set the data source to a different file. No problems there. I call reset() and prepare() just fine. What I haven't been able to figure out, is how to get rid of the 1-2 second gap screen flicker between the data source change and the new video starting. The gap shows a black screen, and I haven't found any way to get around it. I've tried setting the background of the parent view to an image, but it manages to bypass that. Even if the SurfaceView is transparent (which it is by default.) I've also tried to have the multiple video files played at the same time, and switching mediaplayer's display when one ends and the other is supposed to start. The last thing I tried, was to have a second view in the background that I show temporarily while the video is "preparing" and removing it when the video is ready to start. That also wasn't very seamless. Is there any way to get rid of that gap. Running a video in a loop works wonderfully and does exactly what I want with the exception that it's looking through the same video instead of playing a different one that I pick. main.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/background" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <SurfaceView android:id="@+id/surface" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_gravity="center"> </SurfaceView> </FrameLayout> Player.java public class Player extends Activity implements OnCompletionListener, MediaPlayer.OnPreparedListener, SurfaceHolder.Callback { private MediaPlayer player; private SurfaceView surface; private SurfaceHolder holder; public void onCreate(Bundle b) { super.onCreate(b); setContentView(R.layout.main); surface = (SurfaceView)findViewById(R.id.surface); holder = surface.getHolder(); holder.addCallback(this); holder.setType(SurfaceHolder.SURFACE_TYPE_PUSH_BUFFERS); } public void onCompletion(MediaPlayer arg0) { File clip = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"file2.mp4"); playVideo(clip.getAbsolutePath()); } public void onPrepared(MediaPlayer mediaplayer) { holder.setFixedSize(player.getVideoWidth(), player.getVideoHeight()); player.start(); } private void playVideo(String url) { try { File clip = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(),"file1.mp4"); if (player == null) { player = new MediaPlayer(); player.setScreenOnWhilePlaying(true); } else { player.stop(); player.reset(); } player.setDataSource(url); player.setDisplay(holder); player.setOnPreparedListener(this); player.prepare(); player.setOnCompletionListener(this); } catch (Throwable t) { Log.e("ERROR", "Exception Error", t); } }

  • Where should I create my DbCommand instances?

    - by Domenic
    I seemingly have two choices: Make my class implement IDisposable. Create my DbCommand instances as private readonly fields, and in the constructor, add the parameters that they use. Whenever I want to write to the database, bind to these parameters (reusing the same command instances), set the Connection and Transaction properties, then call ExecuteNonQuery. In the Dispose method, call Dispose on each of these fields. Each time I want to write to the database, write using(var cmd = new DbCommand("...", connection, transaction)) around the usage of the command, and add parameters and bind to them every time as well, before calling ExecuteNonQuery. I assume I don't need a new command for each query, just a new command for each time I open the database (right?). Both of these seem somewhat inelegant and possibly incorrect. For #1, it is annoying for my users that I this class is now IDisposable just because I have used a few DbCommands (which should be an implementation detail that they don't care about). I also am somewhat suspicious that keeping a DbCommand instance around might inadvertently lock the database or something? For #2, it feels like I'm doing a lot of work (in terms of .NET objects) each time I want to write to the database, especially with the parameter-adding. It seems like I create the same object every time, which just feels like bad practice. For reference, here is my current code, using #1: using System; using System.Net; using System.Data.SQLite; public class Class1 : IDisposable { private readonly SQLiteCommand updateCookie = new SQLiteCommand("UPDATE moz_cookies SET value = @value, expiry = @expiry, isSecure = @isSecure, isHttpOnly = @isHttpOnly WHERE name = @name AND host = @host AND path = @path"); public Class1() { this.updateCookie.Parameters.AddRange(new[] { new SQLiteParameter("@name"), new SQLiteParameter("@value"), new SQLiteParameter("@host"), new SQLiteParameter("@path"), new SQLiteParameter("@expiry"), new SQLiteParameter("@isSecure"), new SQLiteParameter("@isHttpOnly") }); } private static void BindDbCommandToMozillaCookie(DbCommand command, Cookie cookie) { long expiresSeconds = (long)cookie.Expires.TotalSeconds; command.Parameters["@name"].Value = cookie.Name; command.Parameters["@value"].Value = cookie.Value; command.Parameters["@host"].Value = cookie.Domain; command.Parameters["@path"].Value = cookie.Path; command.Parameters["@expiry"].Value = expiresSeconds; command.Parameters["@isSecure"].Value = cookie.Secure; command.Parameters["@isHttpOnly"].Value = cookie.HttpOnly; } public void WriteCurrentCookiesToMozillaBasedBrowserSqlite(string databaseFilename) { using (SQLiteConnection connection = new SQLiteConnection("Data Source=" + databaseFilename)) { connection.Open(); using (SQLiteTransaction transaction = connection.BeginTransaction()) { this.updateCookie.Connection = connection; this.updateCookie.Transaction = transaction; foreach (Cookie cookie in SomeOtherClass.GetCookieArray()) { Class1.BindDbCommandToMozillaCookie(this.updateCookie, cookie); this.updateCookie.ExecuteNonQuery(); } transaction.Commit(); } } } #region IDisposable implementation protected virtual void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (!this.disposed && disposing) { this.updateCookie.Dispose(); } this.disposed = true; } public void Dispose() { this.Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } ~Class1() { this.Dispose(false); } private bool disposed; #endregion }

  • Matrix Multiplication with Threads: Why is it not faster?

    - by prelic
    Hey all, So I've been playing around with pthreads, specifically trying to calculate the product of two matrices. My code is extremely messy because it was just supposed to be a quick little fun project for myself, but the thread theory I used was very similar to: #include <pthread.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #define M 3 #define K 2 #define N 3 #define NUM_THREADS 10 int A [M][K] = { {1,4}, {2,5}, {3,6} }; int B [K][N] = { {8,7,6}, {5,4,3} }; int C [M][N]; struct v { int i; /* row */ int j; /* column */ }; void *runner(void *param); /* the thread */ int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i,j, count = 0; for(i = 0; i < M; i++) { for(j = 0; j < N; j++) { //Assign a row and column for each thread struct v *data = (struct v *) malloc(sizeof(struct v)); data->i = i; data->j = j; /* Now create the thread passing it data as a parameter */ pthread_t tid; //Thread ID pthread_attr_t attr; //Set of thread attributes //Get the default attributes pthread_attr_init(&attr); //Create the thread pthread_create(&tid,&attr,runner,data); //Make sure the parent waits for all thread to complete pthread_join(tid, NULL); count++; } } //Print out the resulting matrix for(i = 0; i < M; i++) { for(j = 0; j < N; j++) { printf("%d ", C[i][j]); } printf("\n"); } } //The thread will begin control in this function void *runner(void *param) { struct v *data = param; // the structure that holds our data int n, sum = 0; //the counter and sum //Row multiplied by column for(n = 0; n< K; n++){ sum += A[data->i][n] * B[n][data->j]; } //assign the sum to its coordinate C[data->i][data->j] = sum; //Exit the thread pthread_exit(0); } source: http://macboypro.com/blog/2009/06/29/matrix-multiplication-in-c-using-pthreads-on-linux/ For the non-threaded version, I used the same setup (3 2-d matrices, dynamically allocated structs to hold r/c), and added a timer. First trials indicated that the non-threaded version was faster. My first thought was that the dimensions were too small to notice a difference, and it was taking longer to create the threads. So I upped the dimensions to about 50x50, randomly filled, and ran it, and I'm still not seeing any performance upgrade with the threaded version. What am I missing here?

  • Passing ArrayList<String> between tabs

    - by Christophe
    Hi all, I'm not very clear about the Intent object and how to use it to pass data between Activities. In my application I have several tabs between which I want to pass ArrayList. Here is a sample code I plan to use, but I'm missing the part where the main activity catches the Intent and passes it to the new activity on start : 1. myTabs.java == This is where I think I need to add some code to pass the data between TabOne and TabTwo. For now it is just using the sample code of the TabActivity sample. public class myTabs extends TabActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); Resources res = getResources(); // Resource object to get Drawables TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); // The activity TabHost TabHost.TabSpec spec; // Reusable TabSpec for each tab Intent intent; // Reusable Intent for each tab // Create an Intent to launch an Activity for the tab (to be reused) intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabPeopleActivity.class); // Initialize a TabSpec for each tab and add it to the TabHost spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("TabOne").setIndicator("TabOne", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_one)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); // Do the same for the other tabs intent = new Intent().setClass(this, TabTransactionActivity.class); spec = tabHost.newTabSpec("TabTwo").setIndicator("TabTwo", res.getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_tab_two)) .setContent(intent); tabHost.addTab(spec); tabHost.setCurrentTab(0); } } 2. TabOne.java == I added a piece of code in the onStop procedure to fill in the Intent data with the array I want to pass to TabTwo. Not sure it is the right way to do though. public class TabOne extends Activity { [...] private ArrayList<String> arrayPeople; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.tabone); arrayPeople = new ArrayList<String>(); [... here we modify arrayPeople ...] } /** Called when the activity looses focus **/ @Override public void onStop(){ Intent myIntent = new Intent(); myIntent.putStringArrayListExtra("arrayPeople", arrayPeople); this.setIntent(myIntent); } } 3. TabTwo.java == Here I am trying to fetch the ArrayList from the Intent that is supposed to be passed when the Activity starts. But how to do this? public class TabTwo extends Activity { private ArrayList<String> arrayPeople; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.transaction); Intent myIntent = new Intent(); myIntent = this.getIntent(); arrayPeople = myIntent.getStringArrayListExtra("arrayPeople"); } } Thanks for your ideas !

  • Android passing an arraylist back to parent activity

    - by Nicklas O
    Hi there. I've been searching for a simple example of this with no luck. In my android application I have two activities: 1. The main activity which is launched at startup 2. A second activity which is launched by pressing a button on the main activty. When the second activity is finished (by pressing a button) I want it to send back an ArrayList of type MyObject to the main activity and close itself, which the main activity can then do whatever with it. How would I go about achieving this? I have been trying a few things but it is crashing my application when I start the second activity. When the user presses button to launch second activity: Intent i = new Intent(MainActivity.this, secondactivity.class); startActivityForResult(i, 1); The array which is bundled back after pressing a button on the second activity: Intent intent= getIntent(); Bundle b = new Bundle(); b.putParcelableArrayList("myarraylist", mylist); intent.putExtras(b); setResult(RESULT_OK, intent); finish(); And finally a listener on the main activity (although I'm not sure of 100% when this code launches...) protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data); if(resultCode==RESULT_OK && requestCode==1){ Bundle extras = data.getExtras(); final ArrayList<MyObject> mylist = extras.getParcelableArrayList("myarraylist"); Toast.makeText(MainActivity.this, mylist.get(0).getName(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } Any ideas where I am going wrong? The onActivityResult() seems to be crashing my application. • Android Alert Dialog Extract User Choice Radio Button?

    - by kel196
    Apologies for any coding ignorance, I am a beginner and am still learning! I am creating a quiz app which reads questions off a SQL database and plots them as points on a google map. As the user clicks each point, an alert dialog appears with radio buttons to answer some question. My radiobuttons are in CustomItemizedOverlay file and when I click submit, I want to be able to send the user choice back to the database, save it and return to the user if their answer is correct. My question is this, how do I pass the user choice out once the submit button has been clicked? I tried making a global variable to read what was selected to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated! If I need to post any other code, please ask and I will do so ASAP! package uk.ac.ucl.cege.cegeg077.uceskkw; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.widget.Toast; import com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay; import com.google.android.maps.OverlayItem; public class CustomItemizedOverlay2 extends ItemizedOverlay<OverlayItem> { private ArrayList<OverlayItem> mapOverlays = new ArrayList<OverlayItem>(); private Context context; public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker) { super(boundCenterBottom(defaultMarker)); } public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker, Context context) { this(defaultMarker); this.context = context; } @Override protected OverlayItem createItem(int i) { return mapOverlays.get(i); } @Override public int size() { return mapOverlays.size(); } @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { OverlayItem item = mapOverlays.get(index); // gets the snippet from ParseKMLAndDisplayOnMap and splits it back into // a string. final CharSequence allanswers[] = item.getSnippet().split("::"); AlertDialog.Builder dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(context); dialog.setIcon(R.drawable.easterbunnyegg); dialog.setTitle(item.getTitle()); dialog.setSingleChoiceItems(allanswers, -1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { Toast.makeText(context, "You have selected " + allanswers[whichButton], Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); dialog.setPositiveButton(R.string.button_submit, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // int selectedPosition = ((AlertDialog) // dialog).getListView().getCheckedItemPosition(); Toast.makeText(context, "hi!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT) .show(); } }); dialog.setNegativeButton(R.string.button_close, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // on cancel button action } }); AlertDialog question = dialog.create(); question.show(); return true; } public void addOverlay(OverlayItem overlay) { mapOverlays.add(overlay); this.populate(); } }

  • why it throws index out of bounds exception??

    - by Johanna
    Hi I want to use merge sort for sorting my doubly linked list.I have created 3 classes(Node,DoublyLinkedList,MergeSort) but it will throw this exception for these lines: 1.in the getNodes method of DoublyLinkedList---> throw new IndexOutOfBoundsException(); 2.in the add method of DoublyLinkedList-----> Node cursor = getNodes(index); 3.in the sort method of MergeSort class------> listTwo.add(x,localDoublyLinkedList.getValue(x)); 4.in the main method of DoublyLinkedList----->merge.sort(); this is my Merge class:(I put the whole code for this class for beter understanding) public class MergeSort { private DoublyLinkedList localDoublyLinkedList; public MergeSort(DoublyLinkedList list) { localDoublyLinkedList = list; } public void sort() { if (localDoublyLinkedList.size() <= 1) { return; } DoublyLinkedList listOne = new DoublyLinkedList(); DoublyLinkedList listTwo = new DoublyLinkedList(); for (int x = 0; x < (localDoublyLinkedList.size() / 2); x++) { listOne.add(x, localDoublyLinkedList.getValue(x)); } for (int x = (localDoublyLinkedList.size() / 2) + 1; x < localDoublyLinkedList.size(); x++) { listTwo.add(x, localDoublyLinkedList.getValue(x)); } //Split the DoublyLinkedList again MergeSort sort1 = new MergeSort(listOne); MergeSort sort2 = new MergeSort(listTwo); sort1.sort(); sort2.sort(); merge(listOne, listTwo); } public void merge(DoublyLinkedList a, DoublyLinkedList b) { int x = 0; int y = 0; int z = 0; while (x < a.size() && y < b.size()) { if (a.getValue(x) < b.getValue(y)) { localDoublyLinkedList.add(z, a.getValue(x)); x++; } else { localDoublyLinkedList.add(z, b.getValue(y)); y++; } z++; } //copy remaining elements to the tail of a[]; for (int i = x; i < a.size(); i++) { localDoublyLinkedList.add(z, a.getValue(i)); z++; } for (int i = y; i < b.size(); i++) { localDoublyLinkedList.add(z, b.getValue(i)); z++; } } } and just a part of my DoublyLinkedList: private Node getNodes(int index) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException { if (index < 0 || index > length) { throw new IndexOutOfBoundsException(); } else { Node cursor = head; for (int i = 0; i < index; i++) { cursor = cursor.getNext(); } return cursor; } } public void add(int index, int value) throws IndexOutOfBoundsException { Node cursor = getNodes(index); Node temp = new Node(value); temp.setPrev(cursor); temp.setNext(cursor.getNext()); cursor.getNext().setPrev(temp); cursor.setNext(temp); length++; } public static void main(String[] args) { int i = 0; i = getRandomNumber(10, 10000); DoublyLinkedList list = new DoublyLinkedList(); for (int j = 0; j < i; j++) { list.add(j, getRandomNumber(10, 10000)); MergeSort merge = new MergeSort(list); merge.sort(); System.out.println(list.getValue(j)); } } PLEASE help me thanks alot.

  • Problem with sending out variable to serial port using api JAVA

    - by sjaakensjon
    We are developing a java program for school. But we are experiencing problems with sending out a variable created by 3 sliders. The idea is that we have 3 sliders. One slider for every color. Red green and blue. The variable has to have a value between 0 and 255. Everytime the value of the slider changes is has to send a variable for the channel, that value is 1, 2 ,3. And after that it has to send the value of the slider through the serial port. Could you please help us out by creating an example program? Below is our code so far. Thanks in advance. • Performance issues with repeatable loops as control part

    - by djerry
    Hey guys, In my application, i need to show made calls to the user. The user can arrange some filters, according to what they want to see. The problem is that i find it quite hard to filter the calls without losing performance. This is what i am using now : private void ProcessFilterChoice() { _filteredCalls = ServiceConnector.ServiceConnector.SingletonServiceConnector.Proxy.GetAllCalls().ToList(); if (cboOutgoingIncoming.SelectedIndex > -1) GetFilterPartOutgoingIncoming(); if (cboInternExtern.SelectedIndex > -1) GetFilterPartInternExtern(); if (cboDateFilter.SelectedIndex > -1) GetFilteredCallsByDate(); wbPdf.Source = null; btnPrint.Content = "Pdf preview"; } private void GetFilterPartOutgoingIncoming() { if (cboOutgoingIncoming.SelectedItem.ToString().Equals("Outgoing")) for (int i = _filteredCalls.Count - 1; i > -1; i--) { if (_filteredCalls[i].Caller.E164.Length > 4 || _filteredCalls[i].Caller.E164.Equals("0")) _filteredCalls.RemoveAt(i); } else if (cboOutgoingIncoming.SelectedItem.ToString().Equals("Incoming")) for (int i = _filteredCalls.Count - 1; i > -1; i--) { if (_filteredCalls[i].Called.E164.Length > 4 || _filteredCalls[i].Called.E164.Equals("0")) _filteredCalls.RemoveAt(i); } } private void GetFilterPartInternExtern() { if (cboInternExtern.SelectedItem.ToString().Equals("Intern")) for (int i = _filteredCalls.Count - 1; i > -1; i--) { if (_filteredCalls[i].Called.E164.Length > 4 || _filteredCalls[i].Caller.E164.Length > 4 || _filteredCalls[i].Caller.E164.Equals("0")) _filteredCalls.RemoveAt(i); } else if (cboInternExtern.SelectedItem.ToString().Equals("Extern")) for (int i = _filteredCalls.Count - 1; i > -1; i--) { if ((_filteredCalls[i].Called.E164.Length < 5 && _filteredCalls[i].Caller.E164.Length < 5) || _filteredCalls[i].Called.E164.Equals("0")) _filteredCalls.RemoveAt(i); } } private void GetFilteredCallsByDate() { DateTime period = DateTime.Now; switch (cboDateFilter.SelectedItem.ToString()) { case "Today": period = DateTime.Today; break; case "Last week": period = DateTime.Today.Subtract(new TimeSpan(7, 0, 0, 0)); break; case "Last month": period = DateTime.Today.AddMonths(-1); break; case "Last year": period = DateTime.Today.AddYears(-1); break; default: return; } for (int i = _filteredCalls.Count - 1; i > -1; i--) { if (_filteredCalls[i].Start < period) _filteredCalls.RemoveAt(i); } } _filtered calls is a list of "calls". Calls is a class that looks like this : [DataContract] public class Call { private User caller, called; private DateTime start, end; private string conferenceId; private int id; private bool isNew = false; [DataMember] public bool IsNew { get { return isNew; } set { isNew = value; } } [DataMember] public int Id { get { return id; } set { id = value; } } [DataMember] public string ConferenceId { get { return conferenceId; } set { conferenceId = value; } } [DataMember] public DateTime End { get { return end; } set { end = value; } } [DataMember] public DateTime Start { get { return start; } set { start = value; } } [DataMember] public User Called { get { return called; } set { called = value; } } [DataMember] public User Caller { get { return caller; } set { caller = value; } } Can anyone direct me to a better solution or make some suggestions.

  • Why does @PostConstruct callback fire every time even though bean is @ViewScoped? JSF

    - by Nitesh Panchal
    Hello, I am using datatable on page and using binding attribute to bind it to my backing bean. This is my code :- <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:p="http://primefaces.prime.com.tr/ui"> <h:head> <title>Facelet Title</title> </h:head> <h:body> <h:form prependId="false"> <h:dataTable var="item" value="#{testBean.stringCollection}" binding="#{testBean.dataTable}"> <h:column> <h:outputText value="#{item}"/> </h:column> <h:column> <h:commandButton value="Click" actionListener="#{testBean.action}"/> </h:column> </h:dataTable> </h:form> </h:body> </html> This is my bean :- package managedBeans; import java.io.Serializable; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; import javax.annotation.PostConstruct; import javax.faces.bean.ManagedBean; import javax.faces.bean.ViewScoped; import javax.faces.component.html.HtmlDataTable; @ManagedBean(name="testBean") @ViewScoped public class testBean implements Serializable { private List<String> stringCollection; public List<String> getStringCollection() { return stringCollection; } public void setStringCollection(List<String> stringCollection) { this.stringCollection = stringCollection; } private HtmlDataTable dataTable; public HtmlDataTable getDataTable() { return dataTable; } public void setDataTable(HtmlDataTable dataTable) { this.dataTable = dataTable; } @PostConstruct public void init(){ System.out.println("Post Construct fired!!"); stringCollection = new ArrayList<String>(); stringCollection.add("a"); stringCollection.add("b"); stringCollection.add("c"); } public void action(){ System.out.println("Clicked!!"); } } Please tell me why is the @PostConstruct firing each and every time i click on button? It should fire only once as long as i am on same page beacause my bean is @ViewScoped. Further, if i remove the binding attribute then everything works fine and @PostConstruct callback fires only once. Then why every time when i use binding attribute? I need binding attribute and want to perform initialisation tasks like fetching data from webservice, etc only once. What should i do? Where should i write my initialisation task?

  • "didChangeSection:" NSfetchedResultsController delegate method not being called

    - by robenk
    I have a standard split view controller, with a detail view and a table view. Pressing a button in the detail view can cause the an object to change its placement in the table view's ordering. This works fine, as long as the resulting ordering change doesn't result in a section being added or removed. I.e. an object can change it's ordering in a section or switch from one section to another. Those ordering changes work correctly without problems. But, if the object tries to move to a section that doesn't exist yet, or is the last object to leave a section (therefore requiring the section its leaving to be removed), then the application crashes. NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate has methods to handle sections being added and removed that should be called in those cases. But those delegate methods aren't being called for some reason. The code in question, is boilerplate: - (void)controllerWillChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller { NSLog(@"willChangeContent"); [self.tableView beginUpdates]; } - (void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeSection:(id <NSFetchedResultsSectionInfo>)sectionInfo atIndex:(NSUInteger)sectionIndex forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type { NSLog(@"didChangeSection"); switch(type) { case NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert: [self.tableView insertSections:[NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndex:sectionIndex] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeDelete: [self.tableView deleteSections:[NSIndexSet indexSetWithIndex:sectionIndex] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; } } - (void)controller:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller didChangeObject:(id)anObject atIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath forChangeType:(NSFetchedResultsChangeType)type newIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)newIndexPath { NSLog(@"didChangeObject"); UITableView *tableView = self.tableView; switch(type) { case NSFetchedResultsChangeInsert: [tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:newIndexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeDelete: [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeUpdate: [self configureCell:[tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath] atIndexPath:indexPath]; break; case NSFetchedResultsChangeMove: [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; [tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:newIndexPath]withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; break; } } - (void)controllerDidChangeContent:(NSFetchedResultsController *)controller { NSLog(@"didChangeContent"); [self.tableView endUpdates]; [detailViewController.reminderView update]; } Starting the application, and then causing the last object to leave a section results in the following output: 2011-01-08 23:40:18.910 Reminders[54647:207] willChangeContent 2011-01-08 23:40:18.912 Reminders[54647:207] didChangeObject 2011-01-08 23:40:18.914 Reminders[54647:207] didChangeContent 2011-01-08 23:40:18.915 Reminders[54647:207] *** Assertion failure in -[UITableView _endCellAnimationsWithContext:], /SourceCache/UIKit_Sim/UIKit-1145.66/UITableView.m:825 2011-01-08 23:40:18.917 Reminders[54647:207] Serious application error. Exception was caught during Core Data change processing: Invalid update: invalid number of sections. The number of sections contained in the table view after the update (5) must be equal to the number of sections contained in the table view before the update (6), plus or minus the number of sections inserted or deleted (0 inserted, 0 deleted). with userInfo (null) As you can see, "willChangeContent", "didChangeObject" (moving the object in question), and "didChangeContent" were all called properly. Based on the Apple's NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate documentation "didChangeSection" should have been called before "didChangeObject", which would have prevented the exception causing the crash. So I guess the question is how do I assure that didChangeSection gets called? Thanks in advance for any help!
