  • UIPickerView issues - iphone

    - by Rob J
I have the following: - (NSInteger) numberOfComponentsInPickerView:(UIPickerView *)pickerView { return 2; } - (NSInteger) pickerView:(UIPickerView *) pickerView numberOfRowsInComponent:(NSInteger) component { return [genderPickerData count]; return [agePickerData count]; } When I do this, the UIPicker is split into 2 components, but the PickerData is only being represented for gender on both pickers. I am trying to figure out through Apple's confusing documentation on how I reference each individual component but can't seem to figure it out.

  • When are references declared in a switch statement?

    - by sandis
To my surprise this code works fine: int i = 2; switch(i) { case 1: String myString = "foo"; break; case 2: myString = "poo"; System.out.println(myString); } But the String reference should never be declared? Could it be that all variables under every case always are declared no matter what, or how is this resolved?

  • Is there a way to generate a short random id, avoiding collisions, without hitting persistent storag

    - by bshacklett
If you've used GoToMeeting, that's the type of ID I want. I'd like it to be random so that it obfuscates the number of items being tracked and short, so that it's easy to reference manually; UUIDs are way too long. I'd like to avoid hitting persistent storage merely for performance reasons, but I can't think of any other way to avoid collisions. Is 9 digits enough to do something time-based?

  • ebook reader for programming books?

    - by Martin
Are the current ebook readers good enough for reading programming books (containing diagrams, source-code, screenshots, and so on)? How good are the search functions or the possibilities to set bookmarks, to use a book as a reference? I'd like to hear opinions of ebook reader owners to help me decide whether or not I should buy an ebook reader. (I know this question already exists, but it's over one year old and new ebook readers are now available)

  • Is there a way to debug ASP.NET MVC code using a symbol server (instead of downloading the source an

    - by Pure.Krome
Hi folks, Is it possible to step through the official ASP.NET MVC 2 code via using the Symbol Server thingy in visual studio 2010? I know I can download the full open source MVC code from codeplex, build it and then get my code to reference THAT codebase dll's... But i'm wondering if this could be achieved by using the Symbol Server stuff instead? If so, can someone go through some steps please, about how to achieve this?

  • What exactly are administrative redexes after CPS conversion?

    - by eljenso
In the context of Scheme and CPS conversion, I'm having a little trouble deciding what administrative redexes (lambdas) exactly are: all the lambda expressions that are introduced by the CPS conversion only the lambda expressions that are introduced by the CPS conversion but you wouldn't have written if you did the conversion "by hand" or through a smarter CPS-converter If possible, a good reference would be welcome.

  • Build error while compiling Android source (JNI)

    - by arTsmarT
I added some new functionality in C and when I try to build it, it gives me the following error: libnativehelper/include/nativehelper/JNIHelp.h:116: error: undefined reference to 'jniRegisterNativeMethods' error. I have included jnihelp.h in my C files. Is this a makefile related issue or am I missing something? • Cascading switches: uplink to uplink?

    - by wuckachucka
I'm a bit confused as to why I haven't seen any references online to using Switch A's uplink port (1Gbps, 24-port 10/100) to connect to Switch B's uplink port: everything I've seen -- including documentation, forums, articles, etc. -- has Switch A's uplink port going to one of Switch B's 10/100 access ports. As I understand it, the Uplink port (besides greater speed normally) is no different than another port except that it's "internally crossed-over" so that you can use a straight cable with it. I've also seen documentation on using the uplink port to connect a switch to a gateway router, or even a server, as it provides greater bandwidth than the access ports, but yet not sure why nobody seems to be cross-uplinking, even when there's 2 uplink ports available on some higher-end switches. Switch in question is Linksys SRW224P (x2). Am I missing something?

  • Stuck on an ASP.NET/WCF WSDL Parsing Error

    - by Vaccano
I have a WCF Web Service that my ASP.NET app uses. It has been working fine for quite some time. I just added in a Dev Express Grid (and the Dev Express DLLs) and a new page that uses them and now I am getting parsing errors on the WSDL. But the weird part is that it works fine on my machine but fails on the web server machine. (Both are connecting to the same web services WSDL.) Here is the error message I am getting: Server Error in '/MyWebAppWebDev' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parser Error Description: An error occurred during the parsing of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific parse error details and modify your source file appropriately. • How to drop a primary key using ActiveRecord migrations

    - by knoopx
Due to a mistake I forgot to add :id => false to a has_many :trough table creation migration. Now I reverted the association back to a has_and_belongs_to_many and ActiveRecord throws an exception complaining about the presence of the primary key. I couldn't find any reference on the ActiveRecord documentation so, do you know if there is any standard, clean way of doing it?

Any ideas much appreciated.

  • wildcards to use in codeigniter routing?

    - by ajsie
in codeigniter you can use wildcard to reroute. i never heard the word wildcards before. is this a set of rules you can use like regexp? cause in codeigniter documentation they just gave some examples eg. $route['product/(:num)'] = "catalog/product_lookup_by_id/$1"; is there a list/reference with all the available wildcard expressions you can use?

  • Selecting a column that is also a keyword in MySQL

    - by randall123
For some reason, the developers at a new company I'm working for decided to name their columns "ignore" and "exists". Now when I run MySQL queries with those words in the where clause, I get a syntax error; however, I can't seem to figure out how to reference those columns without running into an error. I tried setting them as strings, but that doesn't make any sense. Help? Also, is there a term for this kind of mismatch?

  • Gratuitous use of System.Runtime.Serialization attributes?

    - by rasx
Is there any cost/drawback (apart from typing too much) to adorning a class with System.Runtime.Serialization attributes (like [DataContract]) such that it can be used locally as a direct reference to a desktop Client project or as a type for a WCF service? The goal here is to write a data-tier class that can be used in both rich client (WPF) and Web scenarios. My data classes will be in a project that is separate from Client and WCF (*.svc code-behind) code. Is this a valid attempt to reuse code?

  • Is Minus Zero some sort of JavaScript performance trick?

    - by James Wiseman
Looking in the jQuery core I found the folloiwng code convention: nth: function(elem, i, match){ return match[3] - 0 === i; }, And I was really curious about the snippet match[3] - 0 Hunting around for '-0' on google isn't too productive, and a search for 'minus zero' brings back a reference to a Bob Dylan song. So, can anyone tell me. Is this some sort of performance trick, or is there a reason for doing this rather than a parseInt or parseFloat? Thanks
