  • How stable or unstable is symfony 2.0 ?

    Well, I know it's a preview, and I know it says that it's not yet ready for production, and yet I dare ask the question. I need to start building a pretty big application, which is planned to go live at around sep-oct 2010. Lets say I will not release the application to production until the stable version of symfony 2.0 will be released - is it a good idea (well, I'll settle for a viable idea) for me to start building the application using the 2.0 version ? How big is the chance I will need to rewrite/replace code I've written due to core changes in the framework ? Thanks. Edit: the other option right now, is to use symfony 1.4. I have thought and tried Zend Framework, but I refuse to re-invent each and every module, which will cost me a lot of programming hours (if not days/weeks).

    I have to create an "Expires" value 5 minutes in the future, but I have to supply it in UNIX Timestamp format.     I was trying to find the right module for downloading kernel patches from kernel.org site For example,to download the file at https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/62948/mbox/ I understand urlgrabber has a problem with https on debian. urllib2 seems to have problem with this url as well (says getaddrinfo failed, even though there are no problems reaching other urls) Any help would be appreciated

    I have models like this: class User(models.Model): Switch = models.ForeignKey(Switch, related_name='SwitchUsers') Port = models.ForeignKey(Port) class Switch(models.Model): Name = models.CharField(max_length=50) class Port(models.Model): PortNum = models.PositiveIntegerField() Switch = models.ForeignKey(Switch, related_name = "Ports") When I'm in Admin interface and choose Switch from Switches available, I would like to have Port prepopulated accordingly with Ports from the related Switch. As far as I understand I need to create some JS script to prepopulate it. Unfortunately I don't have this experience, and I would like to keep things simple as it possible and don't rewrite all Django admin interface. Just add this functionality for one Field. Could you please help me with my problem? Thank you.

    We're in the early design/prep phases of transferring/updating a rather large "legacy" 3 tier client-server app to a new version. We’re looking at doing WPF over Winforms as it appears to be the direction Microsoft is pushing development of the future and we’d like the maximize the life cycle/span of the apps. That said during the rewrite we’d like to make as many changes to our data access/presentation model to improve performance as much as possible up front as many. I’ve been doing some research along that vein but the vast majority of the resources I've found that discuss WPF focus only simple data tracking apps or focus on the very basics UI design/controls. The few items that even discuss data presentation are fairly elementary in depth. Are there any books/articles/recommended reading/other resources recommended for development related to large enterprise level business apps? Any “gotchas” that should/could be avoided? General advice to minimize the time underwater

  • My site not directing links correctly.

    I have a site at http://badassmonkeys.com/ and when i click any of the links it does not direct it to the actual page but still pulls up the link. For some reason it works perfectly on linux cpanel and actually loads the pages, but on windows in apache, or in IIS even with a rewrite mod for it, it just doesnt work. The links dont go correctly. Is it a php.ini setting? This is my htaccess file if curious, but it works perfect in linux, but not on windows....   • How does Microsoft generate the Event ID for winqual events?

    I am curious about the IDs that are used to identify items in winqual. I assume it is some sort of hash. Is this published? Hash of the module name, its version and an offset? That seems appropriate but the size is too small to cover the possibilities unless some truncation/lossy algorithm is used. This seems to be generated with the minidump on the client machine.

  • PyLint "Unable to import" error - how to set PYTHONPATH?

    I'm running PyLint from inside Wing IDE on Windows. I have a sub-directory (package) in my project and inside the package I import a module from the top level, ie. __init__.py myapp.py one.py subdir\ __init__.py two.py Inside two.py I have import one and this works fine at runtime, because the top-level directory (from which myapp.py is run) is in the Python path. However, when I run PyLint on two.py it gives me an error: F0401: Unable to import 'one' How do I fix this?

    Hi, I'm trying to dynamically create buttons at runtime with PyQT4.7 However, this being my first python program I'm not sure how to get the functionality I want. I would like to be able to substitute a text string for an attribute name: i.e. for each in xrange(4): myname = "tab1_button%s" % each #tab1_button0, tab1_button1, tab1_button2 #self.ui.tab1_button0 = QtGui.QPushButton(self.ui.tab) <--normal code to create a named button setattr(self.ui,myname,QtGui.QPushButton(self.ui.tab)) #rewrite of line above to dynamicly generate a button #here's where I get stuck. this code isn't valid, but it shows what i want to do self.ui.gridLayout.addWidget(self.ui.%s) % myname #I need to have %s be tab1_button1, tab1_button2, etc. I know the % is for string substituion but how can I substitute the dynamically generated attribute name into that statement? I assume there's a basica language construct I'm missing that allows this. Since it's my first program, please take it easy on me ;)

    I'm attempting to rewrite some C# web service code that uses the Windows IP Helper API call "SendARP" to retreive a remote system's MAC address. SendARP works great - until you cross a network segment as Arp requests aren't routed. I've been looking at the "ParseNetworkString" documentation after happening across its existance on StackOverflow.     I have a query SELECT assetid, type_code, version, name, short_name, status, languages, charset, force_secure, created, created_userid, updated, updated_userid, published, published_userid, status_changed, status_changed_userid FROM sq_ast WHERE assetid = 7 which doesn't work and throws ERROR: operator does not exist: character varying = integer LINE 4: FROM sq_ast WHERE assetid = 7 I can get it to work by doing SELECT assetid, type_code, version, name, short_name, status, languages, charset, force_secure, created, created_userid, updated, updated_userid, published, published_userid, status_changed, status_changed_userid FROM sq_ast WHERE assetid = '7' Please note the quoting of the 7 in the WHERE clause... I am deploying an huge application and I cannot rewrite the core... similarly I don't want to risk changing the type of the column... I'm no Postgres expert... please help... Is there an option for strict casting of columns???

  • How to auto-include all headers in directory

    I'm going through exercises of a C++ book. For each exercise I want to minimize the boilerplate code I have to write. I've set up my project a certain way but it doesn't seem right, and requires too many changes. Right now I have a single main.cpp file with the following: #include "e0614.h" int main() { E0614 ex; ex.solve(); } Each time I create a new class from an exercise, I have to come and modify this file to change the name of the included header as well as the class i'm instantiating. So my questions are: Can I include all headers in the directory so at least I don't have to change the #include line? Better yet, can I rewrite my solution so that I don't even have to touch main.cpp, without having one file with all the code for every exercise in it?

    I am trying to list all of the functions a namespace has in it (warning - I'm really new to Tcl, so I'll probably use the wrong words for parts of Tcl). For example, I have a tcl shell someone compiled for me (if that's the right way to phrase it), and I know at least one function exists, let's call it blah::do_something I know in ruby there are ways to list all the functions in a module/namespace. How would I find out what other functions are available in the blah namespace in Tcl? Thanks in advance
