  • How to make bottom half of a page take up remaining height?

    I've searched and tried a bunch of different things. I have a variable-height tophalf, and the bottom half should fill up the remaining space.   • Layout with divs... can you have too many?

    What is the best practice for developing a layout? Is better to limit divs? I was looking through the html/css of some popular sites and they all seem to have divs within divs. For instance, a div for the entire page, a div for the topbar, a div within the top bar for the logo, search bar, etc. Is this a good practice? I suppose it's easier to position all the divs correctly and than place the necessary elements within the divs. It's what I've been doing this far but want to make sure I'm learning the correct approach. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Make graphics on left and right side of text change width depending on the amount of text?

    I need to have an H1 tag centered between two graphics on the left and right of the text. The H1 text will be various widths depending on what page you are on. The dot on the left should stay on the left edge of the site and the line should extend until it reaches the edge of the text. Same for the right side. Is there a way to accomplish this by using CSS or even some jquery/javascript? In the attached graphic, if the text was just "WHO YOU ARE" I'd need the bars on the left and right to grow wider to bump up against the edges of the text.

Tag with text can't be inside the DIV. Playing with z-index didn`t help. My browser is IE8.

    Hi. I've been looking at the various JavaScript UI libraries and am wondering if there's one that can add some styling to page elements. I'm currently adding rounded corners, shadows, borders, and gradients via my own CSS + hacks to get it working on IE. I'm using jQuery for a number of tasks and wondered if there's a plugin that can add these design flairs more easily to DIVs. Not that you want to go overboard with this stuff, but when you need to use it, you'd like to depend on cross-browser and tried-and-tested solutions. Thanks.

  • Chrome/IE table cell positioning help

    I am making a tiny script to make a HTML element editable. When you click on an element, it gets replaced with a textarea, and you can basically enter the new text. When you press enter, the textarea is replaced with the original element with its innerHTML updated. The demo of the script is here: http://iambot.net/demo/editable/ Now the problem is with the inline table editing. It works perfectly on FF 3.6, but on Chrome/Safari, once the value of a cell is updated, the position of the updated cell shifts to the right by the width of a cell.(Just try the demo in Chrome/Safari) It totally messes up the whole table. I am a beginner in CSS and not able to identify where exactly I'm going wrong. Any help/pointers appreciated! Thanks.

  • Make 2 links same height in columns?

    I have a setup where i have a unordered list on a page with x <li><a href="#">Link text</a></li>. They are via CSS set to 50% width each, so that i have 2 items on each line. My problem is that 2 links on one line, can vary in height as they have different link text. My question is; how can i, via jQuery, set the same height for each (the a is styles with a border bottom, so it would look best if they alined) on the same line? But not all in the sections should have the same height, only on a "pr line" basis. Hope it makes sence :)

  • Rounded corners, is this Mozilla specific?

    I was looking at how some site implemented rounded corners, and the CSS had these odd tags that I've never really seen before. -moz-border-radius-topright: 5px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomright: 5px; -webkit-border-bottom-right-radius: 5px; I googled it, and they seem to be Firefox specific tags? Update The site I was looking at was twitter, it's wierd how a site like that would alienate their IE users.

    I have tried for over 3 weeks now with different implementations trying to get the right section to not display, and have the left section display at full width. Given that my research shows there is no easy or streamlined way to quickly render Print views without reviewing the print preview, I am asking for some help to figure this out. This is the current page im trying to get to work. This is what I want to happen. I came across this code in the header, and after researching it, I can not find what its purpose is. Could this be my culprit for the repeating patterns?     is there any way when using a div for a background image- to limit the height to only the content displayed? im putting the background image in a div because i want it centered via position:relative but the image doesnt show up unless i put a height on the div, and thats not what i want because i dont want to be able to just scroll down to the bottom of the image where theres no content ive tried putting the background image on the body css but if the browser is less than the width of the image, it just throws it over to the left and you can only see half of it- is there no way to make the background position:relative on the body? sorry if that doesnt make sense < thanks

  • animate each child jquery

    It's amazing how simple this should be but I can't get it to work. I'm looking to animate a set of divs one at a time. I am using animate.css for those familiar with it. I thought I may have found the answer here but jsFiddle is not working at the moment. Anywho, the code is $('.elements').each(function(i) { $(this).addClass('animated slideInLeft').delay(500); }); The problem is that when I debug and step through each element, the animation is happening for each element but when I let it run, it appears to all do it at once. What is needed to actually show the animation one at a time? Thanks EDIT: jsFiddle is back up and that link provided below did not help. The answer did not include looping through elements, but looping the animation itself. EDIT 2 Here is a Fiddle to play with if you guys need one.

  • jquery ui slider IE7 bug...

    I have been working on this and cannot get this iterator to work.   • Hover effect for parent unordered list inherited by child list

    I have a simple menu <ul id="menu"> <li class="leaf"><a href="#">Menu Item 1</a></li> <li class="leaf"><a href="#">Menu Item 2</a></li> <li class="expanded"><a href="#">Menu Item 3</a> <ul> <li class="leaf"><a href="#">Menu Item a</a></li> <li class="leaf"><a href="#">Menu Item b</a></li> <li class="leaf"><a href="#">Menu Item c</a></li> </ul> </li> <li class="leaf"><a href="#">Menu Item 4</a></li> </ul> and ul#menu li a:hover {font-weight:bold;} The problem I am facing is when I hover above a ul li li, the parent as well as all its siblings gets the hover effect. I only want the list item I hovered above to get the effect. I tried ul#menu li.leaf a: hover {..}, ul#menu li.expanded a: hover {..} , but even in that case, when I hover above li.expanded, it's child inherits the style. How do I fix this?
