  • Prototype hide/show

    Hi, I am a Javascript/jQuery/Prototype newcomer and I have a page that has a Prototype function to get info from a database and put it into some input fields. This was made before I came to work on this site and now I've been asked to add a hide/show div function. I tried it in jQuery and there were clashes with the two frameworks, (as found in my previous question). My question now is, how would I go about building a show/hide function in Prototype? I think it will be easier to do it this way than to re-build the info grabber. The page I want to add this to is here. (the green "ny kunde" button should show the div directly below it newCustomer.   • Options for non-native form inputs for the web?

    I'm wondering if there are any good non-native form inputs for web development? I am currently using the built in <input> controls. They work just fine, but for my application they are too big (especially on OS X). I am wondering if there are any libraries that I can drop in as replacements. I am especially interested in ones that: Are a close to native control behavior as possible. Support for tabbing, highlighting current textbox, pressing up/down in <select>, etc. Have something that replicates <select> Look good and are compact I am aware that you can use CSS for some styling, but it's pretty minimal and looks different depending on the browser.   • How can I change the CSS visibility style for elements that are not on the screen?

    I have a lot of data being placed into a <DIV> with the overflow: auto style. Firefox handles this gracefully but IE becomes very sluggish both when scrolling the div and when executing any Javascript on the page. At first I thought IE just couldn't handle that much data in its DOM, but then I did a simple test where I applied the visibility: hidden style to every element past the first 100. They still take up space and cause the scrollbars to appear. IE no longer had a problem with the data when I did this. So, I'd like to have a "smart" div that hides all the nested div elements which are not currently visible on the screen. Is there a simple solution to this or will I need to have an infinite loop which calculates the location of the scrollbar? If not, is there a particular event that I can hook into where I could do this? Is there a jQuery selector or plugin that will allow me to select all elements not currently visible on the screen?

  • trying to build a web ui tree from scratch

    I have seen yahoo ui using div for every node of the tree. Is this a good thing to do. Seems like every node including leaf node is heavily nested. I saw a div, table, tr, td being used for creating a node. Is this necessary. Is there a better way to do the same. I tried to us tr for every node. Are there any issues with this approach Thanks

  • CSS Centering Issue - Div Centering appx 15px too far to the right

    I have a theme that I'm modifying for my site. I currently have it live on my test domain while I tinker with it before launch. http://www.networkgenius.org The #content-wrap div is centering, but too far to the right for some reason. I've absolutely no idea why it's doing this, especially since everything else is centering properly. What is the problem? I did add a 15px padding to the content-wrap area as I've changed the body's background color to the grey that you see and obviously didn't want the text pressed right up against the edges of the wrapper.   • File size and mime-type before upload

    Hi, I've scavenged on every single topic on this forum to try and find an answer before I posted this. Most people say you should simply use SWFUpload, some others mention Activex, and it keeps going. I know this is do-able, as Google does it with gMail when you try to upload a file that's bigger than 25mb, or executable. My question is, how can I determine the file size and mime-type before the file actually hits my server. I primarily thought it was an impossible task, but Google proves me wrong. Could anyone give me a definitive answer on how to accomplish such task? Thanks

  • Jquery .select function for selecting inside of select menus

    I have a select menu with two options that are settings for my website. Instead of having a save button, I want it to save to the db when the new value is selected. Right now I have setup a .click function in my jquery file that achieves this purpose for the most part. The only problem is that if you click the drop down arrow (like click down and then back up) it counts that as a click and begins saving to the db. Is there a way I can make it so that it begins saving only when one of the options in the select menu is selected? or maybe even if only a different value is selected? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

  • Stop applet execution on load, pause/resume using javascript?

    I'm making something of a java applet gallery for my website (processing applets, if you're interested) and I'd like to keep the applets from running when the sit first loads. Then, when the appropriate button is clicked, a piece of javascript would tell the applet to continue execution until another button is pressed to stop it. I know that I can use appletName.start() and appletName.stop(), but it doesn't seem to work on load, at least not well. I'm using element.getElementsById( "applet" ) to get the applets to use the start and stop methods on. It slows Firefox to a crawl for some reason.

  • Three vertically stacked DIVs with scrolling middle

    Is it possible to stack three DIVs vertically and have just the middle div scroll vertically? I don't want to use pixel heights, though, because the DIVs are inside of a dialog box that is resizeable. Something like this (pardon my lousy ASCII art): +-----------+ | Header | +-----------+ | ^| | || | Scroll || | || | v| +-----------+ | Footer | +-----------+ The goal is to have the header and and footer fixed and, as the dialog grows, the middle div would grow vertically. Maybe I'm just being stupid, but I've been fighting this for the last few hours and can't seem to get it right. The three DIVs probably need to be inside "another" DIV but when I do that, and set the height to 100%, it grows as the middle DIV grows. Again, it's probably something silly I'm not accounting for. I've also tried using a TABLE to no avail. Thanks for any help.
