• Resolving MSBuild 4.0 warnings

  I've upgraded a solution to use MSBuild 4.0. It compiles but I get lots of warnings, for example: "T:\projects\Castle.Core\buildscripts\Build.proj" (Package target) (1) - "T:\projects\Castle.Core\Castle.Core-vs2008.sln" (Build target) (2:2) - "T:\projects\Castle.Core\src\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests-vs2008.csproj" (default target) (3:2) - D:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(847,9): warning MSB3644: The reference assemblies for framework ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0.30319" were not found. To resolve this, install the SDK or Targeting Pack for this framework version or retarget your application to a version of the framework for which you have the SDK or Targeting Pack installed. Note that assemblies will be resolved from the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) and will be used in place of reference assemblies. Therefore your assembly may not be correctly targeted for the framework you intend. [T:\projects\Castle.Core\src\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests\Castle.DynamicProxy.Tests-vs2008.csproj] How can I fix these warnings? It is related to .NET 4.0 Multitargeting pack or SDK, but there's no SDK for .NET 4.0 AFAIK and Multi-Target pack can not be installed separatly. Any ideas would be appreciated.

• Documenting user scenarios and measuring/testing

  Please forgive me as I don't quite remember the exact terms for what I am talking about... hence my question. Recently I worked on a large Agile team where I encountered a method of defining user scenarios (much like user stories). These scenarios were a few very basic short sentences with keywords and a structure that could be understood by humans (especially project managers) and could also be coded against using some Java Framework (for verifying tests). The exact structure of this mini language used keywords like "when" and "and" or "if" which was how the framework parsed and verified the result. The purpose of this framework was to interface between management and the acceptance testing framework. So essentially management could write the tests themselves using English. The scenario went something like this: "When a user visits URL and User clicks on X Something happens (that can be measured)" Can anyone help me remember exactly what I am talking about? Many thanks

• Visual studio 2010 setup project problem.

  Hi there, I've made an application that uses .NET framework 3.5 SP1 and SQL Server 2008 Express. Application is fine and now i'm going to to make a setup project for this. When I first build my setup it was fine as all the prerequisites were not included in setup. But I want my setup to install .NET 3.5 SP1 and SQL SERVER 2008 Express also. So for this I've changed the options in setup project's properties from "Download prerequisites from following location" to "Download prerequisites from the same location as my application". In addition to that I've also checked the options above like .NET 3.5 SP1 and SQL Server 2008 Express etc. After doing all this I build my project again. This time I'm Getting 57 Errors. Error 1 The install location for prerequisites has not been set to 'component vendor's web site' and the file 'DotNetFX35SP1\dotNetFX20\aspnet.msp' in item '.NET Framework 3.5 SP1' can not be located on disk. See Help for more information. If i create the repository on the root of the svn folder i can see the repository (http://domain.com/code/t1) when i try the other urls i get the error Could not open the requested SVN filesystem My question is, It is possible to do a search in all subfolders looking for svn repositories?

  I need a database migration framework for MS SQL Server, capable of managing both schema changes and data migrations. I guess I am looking for something similar to django's South framework here. given the fact that South is tightly coupled with django's ORM, and the fact that there's so many ORMs for MS SQL I guess having just a generic migration framework, enabling you to write and execute in controlled and sequential manner SQL data/schema change scripts should be sufficient.   I'm about to begin a new project and plan to use YUI and my JS and CSS framework for the following reasons: Treeview with tri-state checkboxes (seems to be the best implementation I could find) Calandar (seen others, but since #1 is on YUI, I'm glad it also has calendar) CSS framework (was going to use 960, but might as well go 100% Yahoo) I plan to use only 1 JS framework. Does anyone see any problems with my decision?

• Getting libjpeg/libTIFF.dylib error after recompiling php in OS X 10.6.3 Server

  I've recompiled php 5.3.0 under OS X Server (10.6.3) in order to gain Freetype support in GD. As part of the process, I recompiled libjpeg-8a (and before that I tried libjpeg-7). But when I run apachectcl configtest, I get the following error: httpd: Syntax error on line 155 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_auth_user_host_apple.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_auth_user_host_apple.so, 10): Symbol not found: __cg_jpeg_resync_to_restart\n Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/libTIFF.dylib\n Expected in: /usr/lib/libJPEG.dylib\n in /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/libTIFF.dylib I don't really understand the error. Is there anyone who could help me figure out how to fix it? In php the gd library now seems unaware of libjpeg support.

  Hi, I have installed RMagick on OSX via MacPorts and can see it by running 'gem server'. • Ninject InThreadScope Binding

  I have a Windows service that contains a file watcher that raises events when a file arrives. When an event is raised I will be using Ninject to create business layer objects that inside of them have a reference to an Entity Framework context which is also injected via Ninject. In my web applications I always used InRequestScope for the context, that way within one request all business layer objects work with the same Entity Framework context. In my current Windows service scenario, would it be sufficient to switch the Entity Framework context binding to a InThreadScope binding? In theory when an event handler in the service triggers it's executed under some thread, then if another file arrives simultaneously it will be executing under a different thread. Therefore both events will not be sharing an Entity Framework context, in essence just like two different http requests on the web. One thing that bothers me is the destruction of these thread scoped objects, when you look at the Ninject wiki: .InThreadScope() - One instance of the type will be created per thread. .InRequestScope() - One instance of the type will be created per web request, and will be destroyed when the request ends. Based on this I understand that InRequestScope objects will be destroyed (garbage collected?) when (or at some point after) the request ends. This says nothing however on how InThreadScope objects are destroyed. To get back to my example, when the file watcher event handler method is completed, the thread goes away (back to the thread pool?) what happens to the InThreadScope-d objects that were injected? EDIT: One thing is clear now, that when using InThreadScope() it will not destroy your object when the handler for the filewatcher exits. I was able to reproduce this by dropping many files in the folder and eventually I got the same thread id which resulted in the same exact Entity Framework context as before, so it's definitely not sufficient for my applications. In this case a file that came in 5 minutes later could be using a stale context that was assigned to the same thread before.

This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. • Unit tests and Test Runner problems under .Net 4.0

  Hi there, We're trying to migrate a .Net 3.5 solution into .Net 4.0, but are experiencing complications with the testing frameworks that can operate using an assembly that is built using version 4.0 of the .Net Framework. Previously, we used NUnit 2.4.3.0 and NCover 1.5.8.0 within our NAnt scripts, but NUnit 2.4.3.0 doesn't like .Net 4.0 projects. So, we upgraded to a newer version of the NUnit framework within the test project itself, but then found that NCover 1.5.8.0 doesn't support this version of NUnit. We get errors in the code saying words to the effect of the assembly was built using a newer version of the .Net Framework than is currently in use, as it's using .Net Framework 2.0 to run the tools. We then tried using Gallio's Icarus test runner GUI, but found that this and MbUnit only support up to version 3.5 of the .Net Frameword and the result is "the tests will be ignored". In terms of the coverage side of things (for reporting into CruiseControl.net), we have found that PartCover is a good candidate for substituting-out NCover, (as the newer version of NCover is quite dear, and PartCover is free), but this is a few steps down the line yet, as we can't get the test runners to work first!! Can any shed any light on a testnig framework that will run under .Net 4.0 in the same way as I've described above? If not, I fear we may have to revert back to using .Net 3.5 until the manufacturers of the tooling that we're currently using have a chance to upgrade to .Net 4.0. Thanks.

  Hi: I have installed Scipy (via macports) for Python on my Mac and it runs fine when running Python scripts. But now I'm using Scipy (via PyObjc) for calculations embedded in a Cocoa App frontend. The following error occurs: ImportError: No module named scipy I am using the "Python.framework" in XCode. Does anybody know why Scipy module is not found? I even added it manually to the module search path via sys.path.append("/opt/local/var/macports/software/py26-scipy/0.7.1_0+gcc43/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/") EDIT: I found the problem myself. The path should be without "/scipy" at the end. But now I got an architecture problem: ImportError: dlopen(/opt/local/var/macports/software/py26-scipy/0.7.1_0+gcc43/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/_fftpack.so, 2): no suitable image found. Did find: /opt/local/var/macports/software/py26-scipy/0.7.1_0+gcc43/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/_fftpack.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture EDIT 2: I checked the architectures: Yes, sure it is an architecture problem. But when I run: file /opt/local/var/macports/software/py26-scipy/0.7.1_0+gcc43/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/scipy/fftpack/_fftpack.so I get a result Mach-O 64-bit bundle x86_64. And the Mac OS 10.6 PYTHON is: Mach-O universal binary with 3 architectures /usr/bin/python (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64 /usr/bin/python (for architecture i386): Mach-O executable i386 /usr/bin/python (for architecture ppc7400): Mach-O executable ppc I build the XCode project as x86_64.

• Kernel config file generator

  Hey guys, could please anybody recommend some kind of kconfig generator that would trim modules and built-in stuff that is not needed according to current hardware ? The best I have found is this : http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/9/16/290 I don't care about compilation time and the amount of modules that are not built-in. I'm concerned about performance. I don't know how much memory and runtime is wasted on huge kernels with almost everything possible. I'm a java developer and I don't know what most of the modules and drivers are for. So there is not much I can disable and be sure that I don't screw it up. Thanks in advance

• I'm trying to install psycopg2 onto Mac OS 10.6.3; it claims it can't find "stdarg.h" but I can see

  I'm desperately trying to successfully install psycopg2 but keep running into errors. The latest one seems to involve it not being to find "stdarg.h" (see code below). However I can see with my own eyes that a file called stdarg.h exists at /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/include/stdarg.h (where it claims it can't find anything) so I've no idea what to do about it. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.3 and within the last few days I've made sure I have all the latest OS developer tools.   Visual Studio 2010 adds a new feature to improve loading speed of references in "Add .NET Reference" tab. For example, when the target framework of project is 3.5, it displays only 3.5 assemblies in the list, and says "Filtered to: .NET Framework 3.5". This feature is quite annoying, as it makes impossible to find an older assembly, unless you change a target framework in compilation options. Is there any option to disable that filtering?
