  • one check box to select other check boxes in jsf

    - by mudassar
I have two kind of check boxes. One is a simple check box e.g t:selectBooleanCheckbox and another list t:selectBooleanCheckbox dynamically generated. I want to control this list with the single check box. e.g. when it is selected or deselected, similar action should take place for the list as well. Help please :)

  • How to manage Constants in Application

    - by changed
what is the best way to use Application Constants ? What i usually do is create a separate table in database of constants and reference them as foreign key in other table. In Java i use enum. But how to keep a single place of authority for constants in application and what are the different ways i can do that(like table or enum).

  • Why is TransactionScope using a distributed transaction when I am only using LinqToSql and Ado.Net

    - by Ian Ringrose
We are having problems on one machine, with the error message: "MSDTC on server XXX is unavailable." The code is using a TransactionScope to wrap some LingToSql database code; there is also some raw Ado.net inside of the transaction. As only a single sql database (2005) is being accessed, why is a distributed transaction being used at all? (I don’t wish to know how to enable MSDTC, as the code needs to work on the server with their current setup)

  • what is the proper way to do logging in csv file?

    - by user2003548
i want to log some information of every single request send to a busy http server in a formatted form, use log module would create some thing i don't want to: [I 131104 15:31:29 Sys:34] i think of csv format but i don't know how to customize it,and python got csv module, but read the manual import csv with open('some.csv', 'w', newline='') as f: writer = csv.writer(f) writer.writerows(someiterable) since it would open and close a file each time, i am afraid in this way would slow down the whole server performance, what could i do?

  • Synchronizing thread communication?

    - by Roger Alsing
Just for the heck of it I'm trying to emulate how JRuby generators work using threads in C#. Also, I'm fully aware that C# haas built in support for yield return, I'm just toying around a bit. I guess it's some sort of poor mans coroutines by keeping multiple callstacks alive using threads. (even though none of the callstacks should execute at the same time) The idea is like this: The consumer thread requests a value The worker thread provides a value and yields back to the consumer thread Repeat untill worker thread is done So, what would be the correct way of doing the following? //example class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { ThreadedEnumerator<string> enumerator = new ThreadedEnumerator<string>(); enumerator.Init(() => { for (int i = 1; i < 100; i++) { enumerator.Yield(i.ToString()); } }); foreach (var item in enumerator) { Console.WriteLine(item); }; Console.ReadLine(); } } //naive threaded enumerator public class ThreadedEnumerator<T> : IEnumerator<T>, IEnumerable<T> { private Thread enumeratorThread; private T current; private bool hasMore = true; private bool isStarted = false; AutoResetEvent enumeratorEvent = new AutoResetEvent(false); AutoResetEvent consumerEvent = new AutoResetEvent(false); public void Yield(T item) { //wait for consumer to request a value consumerEvent.WaitOne(); //assign the value current = item; //signal that we have yielded the requested enumeratorEvent.Set(); } public void Init(Action userAction) { Action WrappedAction = () => { userAction(); consumerEvent.WaitOne(); enumeratorEvent.Set(); hasMore = false; }; ThreadStart ts = new ThreadStart(WrappedAction); enumeratorThread = new Thread(ts); enumeratorThread.IsBackground = true; isStarted = false; } public T Current { get { return current; } } public void Dispose() { enumeratorThread.Abort(); } object System.Collections.IEnumerator.Current { get { return Current; } } public bool MoveNext() { if (!isStarted) { isStarted = true; enumeratorThread.Start(); } //signal that we are ready to receive a value consumerEvent.Set(); //wait for the enumerator to yield enumeratorEvent.WaitOne(); return hasMore; } public void Reset() { throw new NotImplementedException(); } public IEnumerator<T> GetEnumerator() { return this; } System.Collections.IEnumerator System.Collections.IEnumerable.GetEnumerator() { return this; } } Ideas?

  • how to pass Html.TextBox to controller?

    - by sam26092004
May be this simple. But, I've hard time figuring it out. I've a controller with different actions that calls the DB code and return result. I want to pass the value of text box to different actions in controller. How to do it? I know that, I can pass values by using form. But, I don't to know how to call different actions in controller from single view.

  • Code Golf: Spider webs

    - by LiraNuna
The challenge The shortest code by character count to output a spider web with rings equal to user's input. A spider web is started by reconstructing the center ring: \_|_/ _/ \_ \___/ / | \ Then adding rings equal to the amount entered by the user. A ring is another level of a "spider circles" made from \ / | and _, and wraps the center circle. Input is always guaranteed to be a single positive integer. • Dynamic data-entry value store

    - by simendsjo
I'm creating a data-entry application where users are allowed to create the entry schema. My first version of this just created a single table per entry schema with each entry spanning a single or multiple columns (for complex types) with the appropriate data type. This allowed for "fast" querying (on small datasets as I didn't index all columns) and simple synchronization where the data-entry was distributed on several databases. I'm not quite happy with this solution though; the only positive thing is the simplicity... I can only store a fixed number of columns. I need to create indexes on all columns. I need to recreate the table on schema changes. Some of my key design criterias are: Very fast querying (Using a simple domain specific query language) Writes doesn't have to be fast Many concurrent users Schemas will change often Schemas might contain many thousand columns The data-entries might be distributed and needs syncronization. Preferable MySQL and SQLite - Databases like DB2 and Oracle is out of the question. Using .Net/Mono I've been thinking of a couple of possible designs, but none of them seems like a good choice. Solution 1: Union like table containing a Type column and one nullable column per type. This avoids joins, but will definitly use a lot of space. Solution 2: Key/value store. All values are stored as string and converted when needed. Also use a lot of space, and of course, I hate having to convert everything to string. Solution 3: Use an xml database or store values as xml. Without any experience I would think this is quite slow (at least for the relational model unless there is some very good xpath support). I also would like to avoid an xml database as other parts of the application fits better as a relational model, and being able to join the data is helpful. I cannot help to think that someone has solved (some of) this already, but I'm unable to find anything. Not quite sure what to search for either... I know market research is doing something like this for their questionnaires, but there are few open source implementations, and the ones I've found doesn't quite fit the bill. PSPP has much of the logic I'm thinking of; primitive column types, many columns, many rows, fast querying and merging. Too bad it doesn't work against a database.. And of course... I don't need 99% of the provided functionality, but a lot of stuff not included. I'm not sure this is the right place to ask such a design related question, but I hope someone here has some tips, know of any existing work, or can point me to a better place to ask such a question. Thanks in advance!

  • embedded Italic, bold fonts don't look the same in flex as in Windows...

    - by Mark
...unless they're something like "Times New Roman" or some other established font with a fully designed italic and bold, presumably in seperate files. Let me explain what I mean (though why no one has commented on this before I have no idea.) Numerous, numerous fonts do not have a seperate file for italic and bold, and in fact to the best of my knowledge don't even have italic and bold defined as such. But if you install them on windows (for example) and then use them in an app, You can still make use of italic and bold with those fonts. For italic, and oblique angle is just given to it, presumably by Windows, and it looks the same in all Windows apps, and the bold is just given a heavier weight. OK, well here's the problem: if you embed a font like that in a Flex app, as a "SystemFont" the italic and bold will not look the same as they do in Windows. Specifically, the oblique angle is invariably much less than in Windows (i.e the italic slant is much less) and the bold version is not bold enough. I vaguely recall thinking that there was some flex mechanism to assign custom oblique angles for italic (and weight for bold) but now can't recall what it is. Does anyone know the correct established way to do this. The following is actually a seperate (but related) font question (in case anyone is expert in all this.) Its rather a lengthy question and can be skipped, but its something that's plagued me for a long time. I mention above embedding as a "SystemFont", so iow something like this: package fonts { import flash.display.Sprite; public class FLW_Script_I extends Sprite { [Embed(systemFont='FLW Script', fontName='FLW Script', fontStyle='italic', fntWeight='normal', mimeType='application/x-font-truetype')] public var wrFont:Class; } } The other alternative to SystemFont for embedding, is "Source" followed by the name of an actual font file. If you try to embed one of the aformentioned single file fonts as a Source file (as opposed to SystemFont) and specify fontStyle='italic', then the mxmlc compiler will return an error and say there is no italic info in the font file. So up to now I have only been embedding these fonts as "SystemFont". The problem is, flex uses two different font compilers internally for Source embedding and SystemFont embedding. For source font embeds it uses the "Batik" compiler and for SystemFont, the JRE (Java Runtime) font compiler. Well actually the Batik is considered a superior compiler and generally produces better looking fonts. And also if you mix normal fonts compiled with Batik and italic compiled with JRE, sometimes the line spacing is different for the two, and it doesn't look right. So does anyone have an idea how to get mxmlc to do italic and bold for these single file fonts when embedding as "Source". Would there be a way using C++ or whatever to construct an "italic" font file from the SystemFont for such a font in windows.

  • How to keep multiple connectionString passwords safe, separate, and easy to deploy?

    - by Funka
I know there are plenty of questions here already about this topic (I've read through as many as I could find), but I haven't yet been able to figure out how best to satisfy my particular criteria. Here are the goals: The ASP.NET application will run on a few different web servers, including localhost workstations for development. This means encrypting web.config using a machine key is out. The application will decide which connection string to use based on the server name (using a switch statement). For example, "localhost" and "dev.example.com" will use the DevDatabaseConnectionString, "test.example.com" will use the TestDatabaseConnectionString, and "www.example.com" will use the ProdDatabaseConnectionString, for example. Ideally, the exact same executables and web.config should be able to run on any of these environments, without needing to tailor or configure each environment separately every time that we deploy (something that seems like it would be easy to forget/mess up one day during a deployment, which is why we moved away from having just one connectionstring that has to be changed on each target). Deployment is currently accomplished via FTP. We will not have command-line access to the production web server. This means using aspnet_regiis.exe is out. (I could run on localhost, however, if this would still work.) We would prefer to not have to recompile the application whenever a password changes, so using web.config (or db.config or whatever) seems to make the most sense. A developer should not be able to decrypt the production database password. If a developer checks the source code out onto their localhost laptop (which would determine that it should be using the DevDatabaseConnectionString, remember?) and the laptop gets lost or stolen, it should not be possible to get at the other connection strings. Thus, having a single RSA private key to un-encrypt all three passwords cannot be considered. (Contrary to #3 above, it does seem like we'd need to have three separate key files if we went this route; these could be installed once per machine, and should the wrong key file get deployed to the wrong server, the worst that should happen is that the app can't decrypt anything---and not allow the wrong host to access the wrong database!) I know this is probably a subjective question (asking for a "best" way to do something), but given the criteria I've mentioned, I'm hoping that a single best answer will indeed arise. Thank you!

  • Is derived table executed once or three times?

    - by AspOnMyNet
Every time you make use of a derived table, that query is going to be executed. When using a CTE, that result set is pulled back once and only once within a single query. Does the quote suggest that the following query will cause derived table to be executed three times ( once for each aggregate function’s call ): SELECT AVG(OrdersPlaced),MAX(OrdersPlaced),MIN(OrdersPlaced) FROM ( SELECT v.VendorID, v.[Name] AS VendorName, COUNT(*) AS OrdersPlaced FROM Purchasing.PurchaseOrderHeader AS poh INNER JOIN Purchasing.Vendor AS v ON poh.VendorID = v.VendorID GROUP BY v.VendorID, v.[Name] ) AS x thanx

  • Composition vs Inheritance and GUI toolkits

    - by Anin Teger
It's said that composition is preferred over inheritance. Every single open source GUI toolkit however uses inheritance for the drawn widgets (windows, labels, frames, buttons, etc). I checked Qt, wxWidgets, and GTK+. Is there an example of a GUI toolkit (written in any language) that uses composition instead of inheritance to separate the various widgets?

  • How can I query Google Spreadsheets API with a string value?

    - by ColinM
I am using Zend_Gdata_SpreadsheetsListQuery. In PHP my query is: "confirmation=$confirmation" The problem is that $confirmation = 'AB-CD-EFG-012345'; Apparently the hyphens are causing problems with the query and the exception thrown is: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Gdata_App_HttpException' with message 'Expected response code 200, got 400 Parse error: Invalid token encountered' How can I quote or escape the value to not cause parse errors? Single quotes cause the same error, double quotes don't throw errors but there are no results to match.

  • Encrypt column data with LINQ

    - by kape123
I was wondering if there is easy solution to this or I'm stuck with following: When updating DB: dti.Pass = Crypter.Encrypt(dti.Pass); _db.SubmitChanges(); When selecting from DB: Data.DbTableItem dti = _db.Single(a=a.Id == id); dti.Pass = Crypter.Decrypt(dti.Pass); Meaning - I am not really into writing repetitive code and this seems like logical thing to be supported by LINQ; so I'm wondering if it is.

  • Very basic question about Hadoop and compressed input files

    - by Luis Sisamon
I have started to look into Hadoop. If my understanding is right i could process a very big file and it would get split over different nodes, however if the file is compressed then the file could not be split and wold need to be processed by a single node (effectively destroying the advantage of running a mapreduce ver a cluster of parallel machines). My question is, assuming the above is correct, is it possible to split a large file manually in fixed-size chunks, or daily chunks, compress them and then pass a list of compressed input files to perform a mapreduce?

  • Possible to split one JAX-WS service across multiple source files?

    - by Rob S.
Hi everyone, Is it possible to split a web service in to multiple classes and still provide a single path to the web service? I know this isn't possible because of the duplicate url-pattern values. It sort of illustrates where we're wanting to go :) <endpoint name="OneBigService" implementation="SmallImpl1" url-pattern="/OneBigService"/> <endpoint name="OneBigService" implementation="SmallImpl2" url-pattern="/OneBigService"/> Basically, how do avoid having one monolithic @WebService class? Thanks! Rob

  • How to control webapp deployment order when restarting tomcat

    - by artejera
Hi, I have a number of war projects deployed in a single tomcat 5.5 container. They consume each other's services through http, and thus I need to make sure that, when Tomcat is restarted, they are deployed in an specific order. After a couple of hours googlin' around, no luck. Anyone knows how to setup tomcat 5.5 to deploy wars on restart in an specific order? Thanks in advance

  • Why is RSpec so slow under Rails?

    - by Adrian Dunston
Whenever I run rspec tests for my Rails application it takes forever and a day of overhead before it actually starts running tests. Why is rspec so slow? Is there a way to speed up Rails' initial load or single out the part of my Rails app I need (e.g. ActiveRecord stuff only) so it doesn't load absolutely everything to run a few tests?

  • Repository organization and selective checkout

    - by Maurizio Reginelli
I am using TortoiseSVN and I have a SVN repository organized in this way: folder1 folder2 trunk tag branches folder3 trunk tag branches folder4 folder5 trunk tag branches I would like to know if there is a way to checkout only trunk directories, keeping the entire tree under the versioning control: folder1 folder2 trunk folder3 trunk folder4 folder5 trunk In this way I can update all trunks with a single update command on folder1, without updating tags and branches which can be full of data.
