While setting up PostgreSQL from scratch, with the aim to use it in NetBeans IDE, I found the following resources helpful:
http://railskey.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/postgresql-installation-in-ubuntu-12-04/
http://ohdevon.wordpress.com/2011/09/17/postgresql-to-netbeans-1/
http://ohdevon.wordpress.com/2011/09/19/postgresql-to-netbeans-2/
For quite a while I had problems relating to "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432", which had something to do with "postmaster.pid", which I somehow solved via a link I can't find anymore, and which may not have been a problem to begin with.
A key moment was this one, which was useful for setting the password of a new user I'd created:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7695962/postgresql-password-authentication-failed-for-user-postgres
This was useful for setting up a table in my database, which I did by pasting in the below into NetBeans after I made the connection there:
http://use-the-index-luke.com/sql/example-schema/postgresql/where-clause
Now I have a database set up with all permissions everywhere (which turned out to be the hard part) correct:
The next step will be to create a NetBeans Platform application based on this database. I'm assuming it shouldn't be any different to what's described in the NetBeans Platform CRUD Tutorial.
So I have solved this issue, but now I have another problem:
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal.
I am not upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu and I am not running a pre-release either. I have unchecked all my 3rd-party packages using Ubuntu Software Manager, EditSoftware Sources...
What else might be wrong?
UPDATE
After doing sudo update-manager -d and sudo apt-get update;sudo apt-get dist-upgrade as per JimB's post, and then running sudo do-release-upgrade, here what I get:

Hello
I do not have internet connection at my home. So i use "apt-get --print-uris" to list the http's and take it to other PC with internet connection and use wget to download them.
I am facing difficulty about how to list the http's that amarok will download from for the extra functionality (like mp3 codecs). KDE deamon is showing me that these packages are needed for extra functionality of amarok but i don't know how to list their http's.
"apt-get --print-uris upgrade" does not list http's need for amarok/reqonk.
I just install the unity alpha state 3, and i came across two errors, one stating it could not install a desktop feature or so and the other just had some errors that i had snap shot the error. When it says it was complete I restarted it and after it booted up, i see a long line of boot codes and then it stop with log in name and the after i put my log in name it ask for a password, but the thing is that their was no graphical lil window having my picture and my name, all I see was codes from terminal even after it admitted me in. Black screen white coding like it was a terminal on full screen only every thing was via terminal!!! HELP!!!!
I will briefly explain my situation.
I have a website in PHP, this website is powered by a custom framework + some "plug-in" made ad hoc for it.
I am the only developer of this. Until now I just test locally any changes than I upload the php files via FTP.
I don't feel confortable anymore with this. The code base has grown quite a lot and I need some sort of system that helps to keep track of changes (line by line) and can restore to an old version easly if something goes wrong.
Are there any good solution for this?
Note: I never used something like version control or subversion because I think they are too much for this situation (I am the only developer and I just need basic feature)
Note2: Something with a nice web interface would be perfect, I can pay for a good service too
As now I found:
http://beanstalkapp.com/
http://github.com/
http://www.codespaces.com/
http://codesion.com/
https://bitbucket.org/
I tried to install Webmin on Ubuntu by following the instructions on http://www.webmin.com/deb.html. Using the Update Manager GUI I added the repositories and the key
deb http://download.webmin.com/download/repository sarge contrib
deb http://webmin.mirror.somersettechsolutions.co.uk/repository sarge contrib
However when I do an:
apt-get update
apt-get install webmin
I get the error:
W: Failed to fetch http://download.webmin.com/download/repository/dists/sarge/Release Unable to find expected entry 'contrib/source/Sources' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)
W: Failed to fetch http://webmin.mirror.somersettechsolutions.co.uk/repository/dists/sarge/Release Unable to find expected entry 'contrib/source/Sources' in Release file (Wrong sources.list entry or malformed file)
Looing at the page at the URL I can see:
7029066c27ac6f5ef18d660d5741979a 20 contrib/source/Sources.gz
Is the error caused by the fact that the Sources are compressed with gzip or am I doing something wrong?

I saw Google Images seems to index my images only if hotlink protection is off. *
I use anyway hotlink protection because I don't like the idea of people sucking my bandwidth, i simply this code to protcet my sites from being hotlinked:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?mydomain\.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?mydomain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule .*\.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)$ - [F,NC,L]
But in order to allow Google Image search to bypass my hotlink protection (I want Google Images search to show my images) would it suffice to add a line like this one:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?google\.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http(s)?://(www\.)?google\.com$ [NC]
Because I'm wondring:
is the crawler crawling just from google.com?
and what about google.it /
google.co.uk, etc.?
FYI: on Google official guidelines I did not find info about this.
I suppose hotlink protection prevents Google Images to show images in its results because I did some tests and it seems hotlink protection does prevent my images to be shown in Google Images search.
My system is encrypted using Full Disk Encryption, i.e. everything except /boot is encrypted using dmcrypt/luks. I am concerned about Cold Boot Attacks.

SQL Server 2012 is available for download! http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/default.aspx The Evaluation version is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29066 and along with the SQL Server 2012 RTM there’s also the Feature Pack available: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29065 The Feature Pack is rich of useful and interesting stuff, something needed by some feature, like the Semantic Language Statistics Database some other a very good (I would say needed) download if you use certain technologies, like MDS or Data Mining. Btw, for Data Mining also the updated Excel Addin has been released and it’s available in the Feature Pack. As if this would not be enough, also the SQL Server Data Tools IDE has been released in RTM: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/data/hh297027 Remember that SQL Server Data Tool is completely free and can be used with SQL Server 2005 and after. Happy downloading!

I have an app that runs inside my firewall and talks out to multiple end points via HTTP/HTTPS on a non-standard port e.g. http://endpoint1.domain.com:7171, http://endpoint2.domain.com:7171
What I want to do is route these requests through a forward proxy that then rewrites the URL to something like http://allendpoints.domain.com/endpoint1 (port 80 or 443) then on the other end have a reverse proxy that unwinds what I did on the forward proxy to reach the specific endpoints.
The result being that I can route existing app requests through to specific endpoints across the internet without having to change my app software.
My questions are:
is this even possible?
is it a good idea, are their better ways to do this?
Can this be done with IIS and Apache as the proxies?
Visual studio 2010 is an amzing release from Microsoft. I have tried the beta 1,2 of Visual Studio 2010 and finally the full version is released. I am also interested in the latest edition of Windows which nothing but our Windows 7. Next to Vista I like this version very much. Out of curiosity I have installed the prebuild version of Windows 7. I tried installing the express edition here and it failed making me disappointed. I tried two or three times and finally I decided to download the trial version of Windows 7. After that I can install the Visual Studio 2010 express edition easily. I have given the link below from where I have downloaded the file.

Here the link give is through Web PI Installer.
Other option is you can download the ISO image file and burn them to a disc or use a virtual disc
This Visual Web developer will provide the Sql Server engine alone. To get a Sql Server Management Studio get from the following link

I have a series of utilities to generate Google sitemaps for my whole site. These files are massive, and slow to build. We want to start telling Google these pages are mobile-crawl-able too, by adding them to mobile sitemaps, but the documentation is unclear if I need to specify physically different files for my mobile URLs than for my normal ones.
If this is my current sitemap:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
<url>
<loc>http://mobile.example.com/article100.html</loc>
</url>
</urlset>
Can I simply change it to:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<urlset xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"
xmlns:mobile="http://www.google.com/schemas/sitemap-mobile/1.0">
<url>
<loc>http://mobile.example.com/article100.html</loc>
<mobile:mobile/>
</url>
</urlset>
Or do I need to create new files with the additional markup, alongside my existing files?
Last week Alberto published an interesting post about Counting Products in the Current Status with PowerPivot . Starting from a question raised from a reader, Alberto described how to solve a common issue (let me know the “current status” of each item at a given point in time starting from a transactions table) by using a single DAX formula. I suggest you to read his post to understand the technical details of that. What is inspiring of this example is that we can look at Vertipaq and DAX from several...(read more)

I built a CMS and I used it to create the following website http://www.tkdmontecatini.com . After some days, Google Webmaster Tools started to give me several "Redirect error" on some pages like the follows:
http://www.tkdmontecatini.com/it/photogallery
http://www.tkdmontecatini.com/it/pagina/9/Informazioni/Corsi/Chi-Siamo
http://www.tkdmontecatini.com/it/pagina/2/Informazioni/Eventi/Eventi
The funny things are:
If I access those links from a browser, it's all right and I've not redirect loops or other similar issues
If I use the "Fetch as Googlebot" function, I get a great "Success" result
Question: Any idea of why this happens and how can I fix it?
When i download a video from YouTube(Google docs or Google plus) with a download manager this what i get

I have the following environment:
In company X I develop a application on a pc A in network A with ip address 192.168.100.50 which has to do an https request to an http server located in the intranet of company Y
In company X is another pc B in network B with ip address 192.168.200.100
pc B (of company X) can access the intranet from company Y via ssh tunnel (putty)
pc A (of company X) can ping pc B (of company X) note: pc A can also do a remote desktop connection to pc B)
pc B can ping the http sever
pc A can not ping the http server
How can the https request from pc A of company X get to the http server of company Y?
On which pc must be putty configured?
And which settings for host, port forwarding etc. has to be done in putty?
So finally the https request should go from PC A - PC B - Http Server in company Y.
I was looking through a few websites recently and noticed a trend I'm not sure I understand. Sites are creating unique referral URLs for customers in the form of:
http://customname.site.com
(If somebody were to use http://www.site.com/customname it would function the same way).
I can see the sites are using 302 redirects at some point using Google Chrome then doing some sort of htaccess redirect, taking the subdomain name (customname) and applying it as a referral parameter then keeping in session during the entire process.
However, there must be thousands of these custom URLs that people are typing in. How are each one of these "subdomains" not treated as separate URLs which in turn are redirected to the same page (in short, generating tons of links all pointing to the same page which Google would normally frown upon)? Additionally, the links also appear on the site themselves as clickable links so I'm not sure how these are not tracked.
Similarly, the "unique" url is not indexed or cached in any Google search results. How is this capability handled?
It does NOT highlight the referral aspect, but a true example of this is visiting http://sfgiants.com which does a 302 redirect to the much longer proper San Francisco Giants MLB homepage. I am wondering how SFgiants.com is not indexed (assuming that direct shortened link appears on several MLB pages)?
1 - I know these are 302 redirects, I can see this on the sites network flow.
2 - These links do in fact appear on the page itself because in some areas (for example, the bottom of the page may say: send this page to a friend! http://name.site.com/ which in turn would again redirect to something like http://www.site.com?id=name so the id value could be stored in session
