  • NTFS External Drive takes too long to takes data in Mac ?

    I've an Seagate 500 GB external HD (NTFS). To read/write it on Mac (OSX 10.6.2) , I've tried MacFUSE and NTFS-3G to write my HD on Mac. Though I could be able to see the hard drive, it takes too long to see the contents like this is this normal ? also the data transfer takes too long time and the hard disk becomes too hot . Any suggestions are most welcome.

  • Can Linux play HDMI 1.4a 3D stereoscopic content?

    I'm aware that there are no Bluray players for Linux but I'm wondering if it's possible to play Full 3D HD (1080p, Side-By-Side) MKV files (or Bluray BDMV folders, etc). Full 3D HD files are actually two 1080p frames "side-by-side" so the effective resolution is 3840x1200. In order to play these properly the software needs to switch to TV into 3D mode (or however HDMI 1.4a works). I don't think simply playing the 3840x1200 resolution file will work so are there any options out there?

    I have a laptop, which has a screen resolution of 1366x768, as most laptops have. Is there any way to increase it? The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6, with Intel HD 3000 graphics and Radeon HD 6490M GPU. Edit: I want to increase the resolution beyond 1366 X 768, as I have a application that requests that, and I want to run the application on this laptop only. The Application Request the Resolution of 1280x900 or higher.

  • Win7: Deadlock on filedialog

    i'm having a very strange problem: i'm running win7 64bit on my laptop - i hooked an external HD via usb3. when saving something in certain applications (eg. notepad), the file dialog pops up then the whole system is freezing .. like applications won't react anymore, also taskmanager, so i can't terminate anything. i think it's the external HD which is powering down after a while. anyone who knows this problem and can tell me how to fix it? thanks

    I'm stuck between ´eVGA GTX 550 Ti 1GB Super OC´ and ´eVGA GTX460 SE 1GB SuperClocked OC´. I know that 460 is better in performance, but does the 550 Ti has any newer feature, which makes it better? I'll mostly use it for HD movies and HD gaming (skyrim, la noire). Would appreciate opinions about which card is better, and if you have one of these, please provide something useful information. Thanks.

I was thinking of installing a HD drawer for both my laptop and desktop. and when I come home just pull the HD from the laptop and plug it into the desktop.     I am interested in an implementation of the sieve of eratosthenes in purely functional F#. I am interested in an implementation of the actual sieve, not the naive functional implementation that isn't really the sieve, so not something like this: let rec PseudoSieve list = match list with | hd::tl -> hd :: (PseudoSieve <| List.filter (fun x -> x % hd <> 0) tl) | [] -> [] The second link above briefly describes an algorithm that would require the use of a multimap, which isn't available in F# as far as I know. The Haskell implementation given uses a map that supports an insertWith method, which I haven't seen available in the F# functional map. Does anyone know a way to translate the given Haskell map code to F#, or perhaps knows of alternative implementation methods or sieving algorithms that are as efficient and better suited for a functional implementation or F#?

I want the lime colored border to go totally around the white central area without increasing the height of the ft or hd divs. How do I achieve that?     Recently I was working with data from a generic List<T> and one of my objectives is to get the distinct values that is found in the List. Now what if we only want to get the distinct values for a certain field. For example I want to get the distinct “Make” values such as Samsung, Apple, HTC, Nokia and Sony Ericsson and populate them to a DropDownList control for filtering purposes. I was hoping the the Distinct operator has an overload that can compare values based on the property value like (GetProducts().Distinct(o => o.PropertyToCompare). But unfortunately it doesn’t provide that overload so what I did as a workaround is to use the GroupBy,Select and First LINQ query operators to achieve what I want. Here’s the code to get the distinct values of a certain field. protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!IsPostBack) { DropDownList1.DataSource = GetProducts().GroupBy(o => o.Make).Select(o => o.First()); DropDownList1.DataTextField = "Make"; DropDownList1.DataValueField = "Model"; DropDownList1.DataBind(); } } Running the code will display the following output below:   That’s it!   • Plex Media Server: Won't find media External Hard Drive

    I am attempting to turn an older PC into a home media server with Ubuntu 12.04 using Plex Media Server. I have a newer WD 2 TB external USB HD with all of my media on it. I can not for the life of me figure out why Plex will not recognize the files on this hard drive. It shows the external as there, Ubuntu shows the files and allows me to play them, view them, etc. Plex shows the name "External". But when I click it, it is 100% empty and shows nothing to add. I can access the files on the external through file sharing just fine, on my windows computers but would love to be able to use Plex for streaming with our Roku. I am fairly new to Ubuntu, I have used Plex with the same HD on Windows and it worked fine. I have read multiple articles on this and nothing seems to be doing the trick. How can I solve this?

    I want to make dual head setup without xrandr but with Xinerama. This problem (lack of documentation on radeon driver) is similar to these: Radeon display driver clones monitors while using Xinerama (moderators decision to close that problem was wrong) Ubuntu 12.10 multi-monitor setup isn't working The problem is solvable, because this hardware worked as three headed for me earlier with gentoo/xorg-server-1.3 Xorg -configure creates setup for the first monitor on the first GPU Please don't advise to use fglrx/aticonfig/amdcccle (this goes against my religion beliefs)

    Lenovo T520 with integrated Intel HD graphics + a NVidia card (Optimus) Ubuntu 11.10 on the computer. I would like to use the built-in screen plus two external screens. This PDF indicates that it is possible to connect up to four external monitors to the laptop. The information is Windows only. I was planning to disable the NVidia card, since I have read that Linux support for Optimus is not good. Questions: Has anyone set up three monitors on NVidia hardware? Has anyone set up three monitors using Intel HD 3000? Can I expect it to work out of the box, or are there tricks I need to be aware of?

    I just bought an external monitor for my laptop (Asus VH242H) but cannot set its resolution to anything higher than 1600x900. I tried both from System/Administration/Monitors and the ATI Catalyst Control Center. There was a CD that came with the monitor but it only contains a Windows installer. According to the monitor's specifications: 23.6” 16:9 widescreen with 1920×1080 resolution enables borderless Full HD 1080p full-screen video display. My graphic card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 and the monitor is currently connected to my laptop with a VGA cable. How can I set my external monitor to its maximum resolution?

  • No HDMI audio in 13.04

    I have just upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 and now everything works perfectly, except the fact that I have no audio via HDMI. I am using a Samsung tv-monitor connected via HDMI to my video card Asus EAH4670/DI/1GD3 (which has a Radeon HD 4670 gpu on it), installed phisically into my motherboard which is a MSI 770-C45. I am running kernel 3.9, I just have no sound. I tried downloading and installing https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-audio-dev/+archive/alsa-daily/+files/oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.201304261252~raring1_all.deb , but without any good result. Please help, I need my audio back.     I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 with hybrid ATI/Intel graphics. (AMD Radeon 7670M / Intel HD 4000) using Ubuntu 14.04 with open source drivers for graphics. (xserver-xorg-video-ati) I read that Ubuntu 14.04 with the linux kernel version 3.13 supports auto switching between graphics and dynamic power management. Is it correct? Anyway, if it is true, I dont think that it is working in my system , because fan runs constantly and battery backup is less than 2 hours. lspci | grep -i vga 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.   • Samsung NP305U1A laptop won't resume from suspension

    I just bought a Samsung NP305U1A laptop and installed Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 LTS on it. Whenever I suspend the computer and try to wake it back up, the monitor only shows a black screen and the only thing I can do is a hard reset. Kernel: 3.2.0-24-generic Graphic: Radeon HD 6320 Anybody know what to do? UPDATE I did some some research and remebered that I installed the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" from the "Additional drivers" software bundled in Ubuntu. I also tried to install the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (post-release updates)" but whenever I do, it gives me an error and I can't continue So I decided to make a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 again and when i tried the suspension out-of-the-box, it did work. But since I can't install the drivers I need, HD video is choppy like hell. So perhaps the suspension bug was fixed in the post-release updates of the driver, but sadly I cannot install them, and I don't know why.

    My laptop uses a hybrid graphics hardware. Using the vgaswitcheroo I am able to power off either card and switch between them correctly. The issue is that the system wakes up/resumes from suspend correctly only when using the discrete graphics, or atleast the discrete graphics must be powered on even if the display is connected to the onboard intel card. Has anyone faced this issues? Is there any workaround? I only want to use the integrated card and not the discrete amd card. System Info Intel HD 3000 ATI mobility radeon HD 7600M Ubuntu 12.10

  • "Unable to create OpenGL 3.3 context (flags 0, profile 1)"

    Trying to run any of the well-known McKesson's tutorials on a friend's laptop results in the aforementioned exception. I read that in order to run applications which use OpenGL 3.3 you must at least have an ATI HD or Nvidia 8xxx GPU series. He has an ATI HD class graphics processor which eliminates (maybe) this issue. Also, I read that this error may result in having old drivers. He updated his drivers but that didn't solve the problem. The tutorials are built as said in the book introduction and glsdk is installed. If more information is needed, say so and I will provide it. What are the other reasons for this kind of exception? And how can I fix them?

  • Installation issue after 4 attempts

    Have successfully installed Ubuntu 12.10 on 2 laptops, one running Vista & one running Windows8. Made 4 attempts (long downloads of WUBI.EXE) to different HD's & still NO GO. The machine is an older machine with Windows2000Professional installed & running. The system has 3 hard drives; C:(20.5 Gb with 7.26Gb Free), D: (74.5 Gb with 33.1 Gb Free), & E: (35.3 Gb with 24.8 Gb Free) which all have Gigabytes space available; also an A: 3 1/2floppy drive and a CD-drive burner. The CPU processor is older but seems sufficient: AMD Athlon XP 1700+ and the task manager of Windows2000 shows the processor works fine.. The flat-screen display works fine. Here is the error message I receive each time the 'installation configuration' is verified: "No root file system is defined" "Please correct this from partitioning menu" << The Ubuntu operating system is allowing me a couple of options at the very top right menu. I was able to establish a wireless connection but the MAIN homepage won't load with FIREFOX app or any other apps. I cannot access or even find any 'Partitioning Menu" from the displayed page. I cannot access files or Windows Explorer to view drives since I'm not using the Windows O/S. If I try to go back & re-install the UBUNTU 12.10 again, it always asks me to UNINSTALL the one found on the HD & then I run WUBI.EXE again which takes a long time for the download. Do I need to go back into Windows2000 & use Windows Explorer to look at the file structure & add a partition? On previous attempts I have tried loading the WUBI.EXE on all 3 HD's C: D: & E: Sure is frustrating?? Thanks for any suggestions. NEW UBUNTU user & what I've seen so far I like.. (J.R.)

  • Ubuntu 11.10 doesn't detect Intel integrated graphics (i7-2670QM CPU)

    The laptop I'm using is an MSI GT683DX-847PT that comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX570M discrete GPU, and an Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU. According to Intel's description of the Core i7-2670QM CPU, it has an HD Graphics 3000 integrated GPU. The problem is that the Intel integrated graphics GPU doesn't come up in lspci nor in lshw, only the NVIDIA GPU shows up. Why doesn't the Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU show up? Any tests I could make to verify the presence of an integrated GPU?
