Just opened the package, greeted with an admin screen. The password isn't blank and nothing I can see in the user manual... Google searches seem to turn up nothing either.
My Del Dimension E521 running Windows 7 puts itself in sleep mode each night -- despite the fact that I have chosen a power option that specifies NEVER
Each morning I find the monitor blank and I have to hit the power button on the PC at which point Windows "resumes". The system event log shows this:
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 3/27/2010 3:21:10 AM
Description:
The system is entering sleep.
Sleep Reason: System Idle
My specific power options are:
Turn off Display : 20 Minutes
Put the computer to sleep : Never
Is there some other setting coming into play here?

Why does my wireless card not turn on?
Whenever I use my iPod Touch G4 (iOS 4.1) at home, I cannot play Youtube videos using the Youtube app. The lists of videos shows correctly, but when I tap to play a video and the video toolbar shows up, a dialog box shows "The server is not correctly configured" and the video is not played. When I turn off my Privoxy (v3.0.15) proxy, the video plays correctly.
How can I use Privoxy as the global default proxy while still retaining Youtube App functionality?
I am trying to install the ATLAS BLAS library which recommends that I turn if CPU throttling to do the install.
How do I check if my CPU throttling is ON or OFF?
I tried the suggestion of
Code:
./cpufreq-selector -g performance
in the /usr/bin directory as suggested elsewhere in the forum but there was no output and the control returned back to the user.
I have searched everywhere but there does not seem to be a way to determine the status of the CPU throttling
I love NetBeans and its auto-completion features. However, I wish the IDE stops suggesting variable names. For example, when I type "bool myVar" and a space, I ended up with "bool myVarB". The extra "B" suffix drives me nut. How can I turn off this behavior? I appreciate your help.
I've tried to find the basics in a Big IP manual but it seems to me the device is marketed towards GUI users only.
Meanwhile I want to write a few scripts to automate tasks on the load balancer. Namely:
how do I turn off more - when I issue a command I want the output to stream out without waiting for me to press a key for the next page
how do I show the running configuration (I think list all is the way to do it but cannot find it documented anywhere)
Thanks!
Microsoft is shoving IE11 and Skydrive in my face with windows 8.1. You can disable skydrive by going into the registry and disable IE by going into Turn windows features on or off but the thing that microsoft just can't understand is that I don't want skydrive or IE.
I want to remove IE and skydrive from my computer.
Google told me that I can go to Control Panel - Programs and Features - Installed Updates and uninstall IE from there. However, there isn't an option to do so:
What do I do?
Running Win 2008, I'd like to extend the volume of a SAN attached drive that is part of a failover cluster. The SAN team has allocated additional drive space which is being seen by Windows Storage Manager. However, the option to "Extend Volume" is disabled, so is the ability to turn it into a dynamic disk.
Is the ability to extend volumes when part of a failover cluster disabled or not available when it's part of SAN attached storage?
I have a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 Pro (Bootcamp).
I have encyrpted all the company computers with truecrypt and now its the Macbooks turn. Will Truecrypt only encrypt the Win 7 partition and will it disable Bootcamp, or would it install after Bootcamp, whereby after I select either the OS X or Windows partition under Bootcamp, the Truecrypt encryption for Win 7 would be activated?
Thanks in advance.

I have an m4a file (actually m4b, but its the same thing), and when listening to it on my ipod touch the volume is too low, even when I turn it all the way up. I need to increase the volume in the file so that I can hear what is being said. Also in the background it sounds like there is a hissing sound that I'd like to get rid of.
It seems we can see the file version number of DLL/EXE only, if the file name extension is AX, it can't show the version number in Properties dialog, how can I change setting to turn on it? Thanks in advance.
I've got a ThinkPad T400 with the latest UltraNav drivers installed. When I scroll using the touchpad (using the far right edge) the cursor changes to an arrow with a scrollbar overlaid. Anyone know how to turn that off or change it to something else?
We have a form template many staff members use. We created it in Word 2004 for Mac, and I was told a shortcoming was there was no way to turn on the spell checker (a real hassle!). I hoped this would be fixed in 2011, but when I open the form and save it as a .docx, the spell check still doesn't work. Many menu choices, including Language and Spelling and Grammar are grayed. Is there any way to get spell check in a protected, fillable form?
What's the keyboard shortcut for switching between video mirroring and and extended desktop screens? In Display Preference the feature is called "Turn On Mirroring" or "Mirror Displays." It took me some time to discover the keyboard shortcut for this.
I prefer the sound scheme of Windows 7 HP to be set to "No Sounds" ALL the time. The problem is, when I switch themes, the themes switch sound schemes also. I know I can go in and disable/change to "No Sounds" every time by hand, but is there a way to turn it off and keep it off, regardless of the theme? Thanks!
EDIT I want to disable Windows sounds, not application sound.
My Lenovo x100e laptop has a "4-in-1" card reader that's supposed to handle SD/SDHC, MMC, Memory Stick and MS Pro, but I can't insert my SDHC card (a "SANDISK SECURE DIGITAL EXTREME SDHC 16GB 30MB/S"). It enters a bit and looks lite it will fit, but then it doesn't get any further in (and yes, I've tried to turn it around). It really doesn't move, and I'm afraid to break something if I push harder.
Am I missing something obvious here?
Is there a way to change expose settings for a specific space?
reason:
sometimes I run windows in another space full screen. I don't like things happening when I put my cursor in the corner. Especially if I'm playing a game.
I was thinking I could find a hotkey utility to turn off expose, but I'd rather it be automatic.
I just got an Asus G60 laptop, and will be installing an SSD as the primary, and will use the existing HDD as a storage drive.
Is there a utility that I can use to turn off/disconnect the storage drive when I'm not using it? Mainly, I want to be able to conserve power when I'm mobile, since the battery life of this laptop is pretty weak.
Thanks in advance!
Here's the scenario:
Work network - I have a Mac and a PC - OS X is Snow Leopard - Windows 7
I am trying to connect to the PC from the Mac. IT ONLY works if I turn off the firewall in Windows.
I tried to trace the port and connection it was using, it appears to be on port 445 via TCP.
I really prefer not to leave this open, or is it OK?
How can I only allow this connection while still leaving the firewall on?
I want to run script when my mac is idle (for example after 5 minutes or screen saver start time is also ok) and when I resume it from idle state.
I know that I can write daemon using NSDistributedNotificationCenter and com.apple.screenIsLocked and com.apple.screenIsUnlocked, but I hope that there is already solution without creating new daemon.
I need this to for example turn on/off speed limit for Transmission (as it is sometimes hard to work when hashing/downloading on full speed).
Brand new to Linux. I need to turn my box off and put it in my server room. The help here and everywhere seems not to work for me:
http://debianhelp.co.uk/shutdown.htm
I get:
lukepuplett@uktnlx01:~$ poweroff
-bash: poweroff: command not found
lukepuplett@uktnlx01:~$ shutdown
-bash: shutdown: command not found
lukepuplett@uktnlx01:~$ modprobe apm
-bash: modprobe: command not found
lukepuplett@uktnlx01:~$
I also tried halt, reboot, goaway, and pleasejustwork.
I need (free) software to login to my iMac from my iPod. TeamViewer works but the iMac puts itself to sleep. Are there any programs that can turn on my iMac remotely? Alternatively, are tere any settings that I can change to keep my iMac on at all times and ensure constant availability?
I've seen this happen on 2 different HP laptops now. If I try to use them in the same room as a Media Center, the MCE TV remote keeps sending commands to the laptop. This can do anything from wake it up and turn it on to just moving the selection around.
There is no obvious way to disable the IR sensor or at least its response to the remote. Does anyone know how to do this?
