  • Replace an element name while retaining the attributes with jquery

    I'm trying to create a jquery setup where all instances of <i> are changed to <em>. It's easy enough to do with: $("i").each(function(){ $(this).replaceWith($('<em>' + this.innerHTML + '</em>')); }); But what I am having trouble figuring out is how to change all the <i> tags but retain each ones individual attributes. So if I have <i style="background-color: #333;" alt="Example" title="Example">Example Text</i> I would like it to change to <em style="background-color: #333;" alt="Example" title="Example">Example Text</em> Thanks for any help!

  • Problem with caching images on server- jQuery

    Hi I have the weirdest problem. I am implementing a simple gallery with a use of nivo slider jQuery plugin. Everything works perfectly when I test it on my local machine, however I am having an issue on an online hosted server. The images do not tend to appear when you first open the website. There seems to be an issue with caching the images. when you reload the page (simple f5) everything works fine. Rather than showing you the code, I think it would be better to show the site so you can see what firebug shows you: http://teslacreations.com/orangery/test.php Does anyone have any ideas how to solve it?

  • Patterns for avoiding jQuery silent fails

    Is there any good practice to avoid your jQuery code silently fail? For example: $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)').doSomething(); I know that every time this line get executed, the selector is intended to match at least one element, or certain amount of elements. Is there any standard or good way to validate that? I thought about something like this: var $matchedElements = $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)'); if ($matchedElements.length < 0) throw 'No matched elements'; $matchedElements.doSomething(); Also I think unit testing would be a valid option instead of messing the code. My question may be silly, but I wonder whether there is a better option than the things that I'm currently doing or not. Also, maybe I'm in the wrong way checking if any element match my selector. However, as the page continues growing, the selectors could stop matching some elements and pieces of functionality could stop working inadvertently.

    I dynamically load in a few li's that have a label and a checkbox in them to another visible ul. I set the checkboxes to be checked="checked" and i am trying to trigger an event to happen when i change these dynamically inserted checkboxes but nothing occurs. Here is the jquery: $(".otherProductCheckbox:checkbox").change( function(){ alert('test'); }); Here is the html for the dynamically added li's: <li class="otherProduct"><input type="checkbox" class="otherProductCheckbox radioCheck" checked="checked"/><label>Product Name</label></li> Any idea why i cant get the alert to happen when the checkbox changes its checked state?

  • Connecting to TFS via ASP.NET, jQuery and Phonegap

    I want to develop a mobile application that would allow the user the ability to run a suite of automated test cases housed in TFS. This is something I thought of this morning so it's all still very preliminary. But I'm curious as to what would be the best route for something like this? Or if it's even possible? Because the mobile devices from the users will vary from iphones to droids, I would probably want to incorporate something like Phonegap for it's cross platform capabilities. My initial thought was to develop in ASP.net/C# (which would be stored on a remote server), and have jQuery make calls to that server. Not sure if that would be the most appropriate way of handling this. I'm not too familiar with JSON but I have seen it as a suggestion on various sites to handle the returned data. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

    My webpage has a large image (a map). I want to position, at the top right of the image, a small icon that is for closing the map. How can I figure out the position and place the image appropriately? The image has a fixed width of 900 x 600. I have jquery on the page if that helps. I tried using $("#map").position and I have the top and left, but not sure how to position to the top right.

    I have a collection of span elements. In the code I have a global variable that represents the "selected" object. Using the click event when a span is clicked I reset the object's class, reset the global variable, then set the object to the variable and change its class (to make it "highlighted").     I would like to have users click a link that then selects the html text in another element (NOT an input). By "select" I mean the same way you would select text by dragging your mouse over it. This has been a bear to research because everyone talks about "select" or "highlight" in other terms. Is this possible?     I have page1.aspx and page2.aspx in a website I need to navigate as: Page1-- Page 2(on click of go back button, back to page1)-- page 1 I am using jQuery code to navigate: var pagename= "page2.aspx"; jQ(location).attr('href', pagename); I tried using same code in page2 to navigate back to page 1: var path2 = "page1.aspx"; jq(location).attr('href', path2); also tried below code and similar few others as well. document.location.pathname = '../Pages/page1.aspx'; But all it does is, navigate me to show Directory Listing, where it shows all page names under pages folder. Is there anything wrong with the code ? I tried to do it as per levels too, that is ../pages/page1.aspx .

It is laid out like (ul,li etc.) this so I can have each loaded form aligned under the relevant li. But I think there has to be a better way as I do not seem to get any if(){} stemnents working to process the forms i.e. if(form1){ $.ajax etc } if (form2) {more ajax} Suggestions please - thanks

I want to be able to select a file (similar to in html) and then show some sort of dialogue that allows me to browse to a "folder" and select the file. It would then be up to me to send some sort of AJAX command to upload it to the server (where I am using Asp.net MVC 2) Since I do not have access to an iPhone or iPad, I was told that I would only have access to the documents folder.   • Sending JSON content type in from JavaScript objects ( jQuery ajax )

    I am having trouble sending JavaScript objects as a http request that only accepts json content-type. i.e "application/json" or "text/json" But, I am not sure why data2 ( stringified json ) works fine But, data1 ( json object ) does throws 400 ( Bad Request ). i.e I am not sure jQuery does not serialize the json object to a valid json string for the server to process. var data1 = ({ rating : 3 }); //does not work var data2 = '{ "rating" : 3}'; //works fine $.ajax({ url : "/rate", data : data1, type : "POST", contentType: "application/json", success: function(json){ console.log("Ajax Return :"+json); } });

    Hi, Does anyone know of a very basic tag JQuery script? (Facebook like tag feature) All I want to do is when I type @ in a text box for it to search an AJAX search, it then brings back a display name i.e. "Bob Johnson" and an associated Id and stores the Id in a comma delimited list. So an example would be the following .... [TextArea] [Name 1] [Name 2] [Name 3] The thing is it also needs to remove this entry (Id) once the tag gets removed, also it needs to load into a DIV which has a scrollbar so that the list doesn't get to big. If anyone know's how/if this is possible that would be great. Thanks.

    I currently have a jQuery ajax request set up like this $(document).ready( function() { $.ajax({ url : "http://www.my-computer.com:51000/getJson", cache : false, dataType: "json", success : renderPage, error: handleError }) }); If I manually naviate to http://www.my-computer.com:51000/getJson, I see it returns a json string correctly, but with the above request, I always fall into "handleError" method, with textStatus "error" and not much helpful information. Can anyone help? Thanks! EDIT: sorry about the my-computer domain. this stackoverflow submission won't let me input localhost, so I put in an arbitrary domain instead. I've tried firebug, but had no luck in getting the json back.
