  • Which frontend framework/library should I learn to enhance an existing site? [on hold]

    I have a large site that I've coded by hand over the last couple of years. It's a sports results service, and allows users to view their results, compare themselves to others, buy photographs, that sort of thing. The code base is fairly substantial, and scarily uses no frameworks or libraries. It's a PHP backend, and a clean & compact frontend. I use the Highcharts library, but other than that all of the JS is my own. I'm not a fan of bulk, even if it is CDN-hosted and heavily cachable. Maybe I need to change my outlook on this? I'm wanting to make some significant changes to the site now, and it seems an appropriate time to enhance my skillset by learning AngularJS, or something else of that ilk. A large part of the site is tables of data, and as just one example of the sort of thing I want to achieve, I'd like to let users add/remove/sort columns better than they currently can. Are any of the various frameworks/libraries out there more suitable to shoehorning into an existing project?

    I am working on a web system currently and plans to heavily use javascript with ajax to make the user interface more friendlier, not fancy as such. The javascript will be used for client side form validation, data loading from server and creating proper content with the result, also to for floating windows during add/edit or external references. Here is a scenerio that could clearify my question. A user wants to update card but instead of jumping to another page to verify the available colors,size and prizes of product, those information are shown in a floating window and changes in the floating window can affect the underlying one. My question is : 1. What are some of the approaches to encounter this situation? 2. Are there any helpful tips, tricks and links on this subject? I am comfortable with js,php and zend.     If I do something like: result = Appointment.find( :all, :include => :staff ) logger.debug { result.inspect } then it only prints out the Appointment data, and not the associated staff data. If I do result[0].staff.inpsect then I get the staff data of course. The problem is I want to return this to AJAX as JSON, including the staff rows. How do I force it to include the staff rows, or do I have to loop through and create something manually?

    I'm calling a Coldfusion component (cfc) using jQuery.post(). I need an integer or string representation of the number returned for use in a URL. {"PAGE":"My Page Title","ID":19382} or {"PAGE":"My Page Title","ID":"19382"} Instead what I get back is a decimal: {"PAGE":"My Page Title","ID":19382.0} Needed to update the following HTML: <a href="page.cfm?id=19382" id="pagelink">My Page Title</a> Conceptually, I suppose there are multiple answers: 1) I could use jQuery to grab the number left of the decimal point. 2) I could force Coldfusion to send the number as a string. 3) I could generate the whole link server side and just replace the whole link tag HTML (not the preferred answer, but maybe it is the best) Does anyone know how to do 1 or 2? Is 3 better?   • Refresh table after using jQuery .append()

    The following code gets a JSON object and then spits its contents out into a <table>. The first time I do it I get my JSON content just fine. However, when I refresh, the refreshed data is stuck onto the bottom of my table. How do I refresh the data to show the new data only?
