  • DDD: MailService.SendNotificationToUser() or User.Notify()?

    I seem to stumble on problem after problem giving my entities behavior. I have a system where a user gets a notification when someone comments his article. Right now it is via an e-mail. I'm struggeling how to implement this the DDD way. Option 1 User entity has a Notify method: User.Notify() The method uses C# built in classes to send an e-mail notification via e-mail The problem with having this in the domain is that it is technology spesific, and how a user is notified might change in the future. I feel this belongs to infrastructure, but how then can a user have behavior? Option 2 I create a Service: NotificationService.Notify(User) The Service uses C# built in classes to send an e-mail The pro is that the service could be an Application Service, and as far as I know an application service can use the infrastructure and call things like the System.Net.Mail and repositories for that sake. How would you implement this?

I’ve seen databases designed with GUID keys run fairly well with small workloads but completely fall over and fail because they just cannot scale. And, I know why GUIDs are chosen - it simplifies the handling of parent/child rows in your batches so you can reduce round-trips or avoid dealing with identity values. And, yes, sometimes it's even for distributed databases and/or security that GUIDs are chosen. I'm not entirely against ever using a GUID but overusing and abusing GUIDs just has to be stopped! Please, please, please let me give you better solutions and explanations on how to deal with your parent/child rows, round-trips and clustering keys!   SESSION 4: Essential Database Maintenance  In this session, Paul and Kimberly will run you through their top-ten database maintenance recommendations, with a lot of tips and tricks along the way. These are distilled from almost 30 years combined experience working with SQL Server customers and are geared towards making your databases more performant, more available, and more easily managed (to save you time!).   • $.ajax not loading data data everytime from server

    I have written a simple jQuery.ajax function which loads a user control from the server on click of a button. The first time I click the button, it goes to the server and gets me the user control. But each subsequent click of the same button does not goes to the server to fetch me the user control. Since my user control fetches data from db, I need to reload the user control everytime i hit the button. But if anyhow I get my user control to unload from the page, and re-click the button, it goes to the server and fetches me the user control.   • iTunes 9.0.2 hangs on launch on Mac OS X 10.6.2

    My iTunes 9.0.2 hangs on launch in OS X 10.6.2. This doesn't happen all the time, only if I've been running for a while. Then it will recur until I restart. Similarly Safari 4.0.4 will hang in the flash player plugin when about to play a video. If I restart both these problems go away until later. Based on this crash dump I am suspecting Audio Hijack Pro. I will try to install a newer version of the driver involved, but so far I haven't had much luck. I have uninstalled the Flash Plugin (10.0.r42 and r32) but clearly I want it in the long run. This is iTunes' crash report. Is it save to have my svn repositories accessed by two web servers at the same time? Does the normal fsfs subversion repository type protect me enough or do I need to switch to Berkely DB for this sort of thing?

If so could you please point me at one that I could trust?

  • debugging JBoss 100% CPU usage

    We are using JBoss to run two of our WARs. One is our web app, the other is our web service. The web app accesses a database on another machine and makes requests to the web service. The web service makes JMS requests to other machines, aggregates the data, and returns it. At our biggest client, about once a month the JBoss Java process takes 100% of all CPUs. The machine running JBoss has 8 CPUs. Our web app is still accessible during this time, however pages take about 3 minutes to load. Restarting JBoss restores everything to normal. The database machine and all the other machines are fine, only the machine running JBoss is affected. Memory usage is normal. Network utilization is normal. There are no suspect error messages in the JBoss logs. I have set up a test environment as close as possible to the client's production environment and I've done load testing with as much as 2x the number of concurrent users. I have not gotten my test environment to replicate the problem. Where do we go from here? How can we narrow down the problem? Currently the only plan we have is to wait until the problem occurs in production on its own, then do some debugging to determine the cause. So far people have just restarted JBoss when the problem occurred to minimize down time. Next time it happens they will get a developer to take a look. The question is, next time it happens, what can be done to determine the cause? We could setup a separate JBoss instance on the same box and install the web app separately from the web service. This way when the problem next occurs we will know which WAR has the problem (assuming it is our code). This doesn't narrow it down much though. Should I enable JMX remote? This way the next time the problem occurs I can connect with VisualVM and see which threads are taking the CPU and what the hell they are doing. However, is there a significant down side to enabling JMX remote in a production environment? Is there another way to see what threads are eating the CPU and to get a stacktrace to see what they are doing? Any other ideas? Thanks!

(since my web host is virtual one) This works OK. But now I want to use an email service provided by third party, which requires adding a MX record to my DNS service. But this cannot be done on my web host management pages. Is there any workaround for this?

    I have a WPF page that contains a Listbox and a frame. The frame has various pages loaded into it determined by the selection within the Listbox. Each page within the frame has a variety of different input boxes and has a Save Cancel button. When the Save button is clicked I need the content to be saved to the database and the Listbox in the parent page to be refreshed to reflect the new data. Saving the data is easy but how do I initiate a refresh on the contents of the Listbox in the parent page when calling it from the page that inside the frame? I need to somehow be able to access the parent pages controls to do this. Any ideas?

  • Add a delay to OnContactDown events for Surface controls

    We're using the Controls.PreviewContactDown, PreviewContactUp, and PreviewContactChanged events to capture tagged items being placed, removed, and moved on the Surface, which works great in the Simulator application that comes with the surface. On an actual Surface if you moved a tagged item too quickly the cameras actually lose focus of the tag, assume it was removed, and then re-capture it when it stops moving. That provides a pretty poor experience for our clients. What I'm proposing is a way to override or create a new event that would respond to tagged item events, but not fire the event handler until after a delay... i.e. if "ContactUp" is fired, wait 100ms and THEN execute the event handler. Ideally we'd just be able to use an alternate attached property to define these event handlers, i.e. <Panel local:TagDown="TagDownEventHandler" /> And if we could get it to use ICommand objects instead of event handlers that'd be even better.

The indexes in the array will be put in the tag property of each UISwitch. However, I'm ready using the tag property for something else, namely to find the right control in the cell in cellForRowAtIndexPath with viewWithTag! (There are several things I need to set within each cell.) So, am I thinking along the right lines here? I feel I'm rather limited in how I find out exactly which UISwitch changed its value, so I can do something useful with it.

    hi, i have been trying to create controls dynamically on my web page using the StringBuilder class..and i dont quite seem to get through... any help would be appreciated. i am trying to do this... StringBuilder sbTest = new StringBuilder(string.Empty); sbTest.Append("<input type=\"text\" id=\"txt1\" runat=\"server\" />"); Response.Write(sbTest.ToString()); The page for sure displays a TextBox on the browser which is easily accessible through JavaScript...but what i want is the control to be available on the Server Side too...so that when the page is posted back to the server i can easliy obtain the value that has been entered by the user into the textbox. Can any 1 please help me with this.... thank you so much....

  • ScrollBars are not visible after changing positions of controls inside a Canvas

    Hi, I created a custom canvas control inheriting from WPF Canvas. I am using it like this in main window - <ScrollViewer HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Auto" VerticalScrollBarVisibility="Auto"> <RTD:RTDesignerCanvas Margin="5" Background="White" x:Name="canvas1" Focusable="True" AllowDrop="True"> </RTD:RTDesignerCanvas> </ScrollViewer> Everyhting works fine but when I try to set the position of controls inside it like this Canvas.SetTop(item, 200); scrollbars are not visible and control is hiddedn down somewhere. Intrestingly, if I add another control to it scroll bars are visible and I can scroll downwards to see the previous control. I tried to use base.InvalidateVisual(); base.UpdateLayout(); base.InvalidateArrange(); after changing items Top or Left but nothing happens; Am I missing something or this happens due to some bug?

  • Are Inherited Forms And/Or Inherited Controls possible in Managed C++

    Hello everyone The question is actually pretty self explanatory but I will further clarify it. I am building a simple application to show a load [file] for 5 different types of [files]. So all these 5 forms will have similar GUI elements such as a listbox and a load button with a small textbox/label to show the summary of the [file]'s information. My desired effect is something like visual studio's C# template for Inherited User controls or Inherited forms. I already heavily googled the concept to look for a C++ visual studio template to the trick but I couldn't find it. The word [file] is in brackets because open file dialogue will not the trick as this list of files to select form comes form an SQL server. Thanks a lot!

  • Options for non-native form inputs for the web?

    I'm wondering if there are any good non-native form inputs for web development? I am currently using the built in <input> controls. They work just fine, but for my application they are too big (especially on OS X). I am wondering if there are any libraries that I can drop in as replacements. I am especially interested in ones that: Are a close to native control behavior as possible. Support for tabbing, highlighting current textbox, pressing up/down in <select>, etc. Have something that replicates <select> Look good and are compact I am aware that you can use CSS for some styling, but it's pretty minimal and looks different depending on the browser.   • Grouping Windows Forms Radiobuttons with different parent controls in C#

    Hi, I've got a Windows Forms application in which I have a number of RadioButtons. These RadioButtons are placed within a FlowLayoutPanel which automatically arranges them for me. All RadioButtons that are directly added to the FlowLayoutPanel are grouped, meaning I can select only one of them. However, some of these RadioButtons are paired up with a TextBox so I can supply some argument there. But to have all this arranged properly, I add a Panel control to the FlowLayoutPanel so I can control the alignment of the RadioButton and TextBox relatively to each other myself. These RadioButtons now have their own respective Panels as parent controls and thus are no longer included in the radio group with the other RadioButtons. I read that the the RadioButtons that are in the System.Web.UI namespace have a GroupName property, but unfortunately their System.Windows.Forms counterparts lack this property. Is there some other way I can group these radio buttons are am I going to have to handle onClick events myself? Thanks, Jerry

    Hi all, I read some paragraphs in a book saying that it is not possible to do a partial postback for web, even AJAX is employed. Ajax will postback everything and update only ajaxfied controls. However, on pages I made using ajax, I used Fiddler to monitor the transportation. I found when the page initial load, it loaded everything include pictures .... However, when I click a button and do a ajax postback. I can only see the some data were loaded.... Looks like it doesn't need to reload the whole page again. I don't know if what I see is correct? Or the book I read is correct? Thank you guys.

By "production ready" I mean : supports objective-relational mapping with caching and declarative desciption (like JPA, Hibernate etc..) controls oriented user interface support - no HTML templates but something like JSF (RichFaces, Icefaces) or GWT, Vaadin, ZK component decomposition and dependency injection (like EJB or Spring) unit and integration testing good IDE support clustering, modularity etc (like Terracota, OSGi etc..) there are successful applications written in it by companies like IBM, Oracle etc (I mean real business applications not Twitter) could have commercial support Is it possible at all in Python world ? Or only choices are : use Python and write everything from the bottom (too expensice) stick to JEE buy .NET stack

    My question is related to this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/93541/baseline-snaplines-in-custom-winforms-controls However, in my case, I have created a new control that derives from TextBox rather than containing a TextBox. I would like to have a custom ControlDesigner, but I would like to modify the behavior of the TextBox's designer rather than having to write a complete designer myself. In particular, I'd like to be able to return the TextBox's SnapLines while providing some custom verbs. Is there a good way to do this? EDIT: To clarify, this is for Windows Forms in .NET 2.0.

  • Flex 4 how to layout spark controls in an html table type way

    I have a group of controls and I want to organize them in a table like fashion. I want 1 row and 6 columns. Col 1,3,4,5,6 should all auto size to the contents and col 2 should take up the remaining available space. When the size of the group changes, only col2 width should change. I also want to be able to set the alignment of each cell. How can I do this in flex 4? I found a reference to mx:constraintColumns but this seems to be used with the canvas and in flex 4 adobe suggests not using canvases. Is there something similar in flex 4? I'm looking for something along the lines of Grid/Grid.ColumnDefinitions in silverlight.

  • VB.NET 2.0 - StackOverflowException when using Thread Safe calls to Windows Forms Controls

    I have a Windows Forms app that, unfortunately, must make calls to controls from a second thread. I've been using the thread-safe pattern described on the http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171728.aspx. Which has worked great in the past. The specific problem I am having now: I have a WebBrowser control and I'm attempting to invoke the WebBrowser.Navigate() method using this Thread-Safe pattern and as a result I am getting StackOverflow exceptions. Here is the Thread-Safe Navigate method I've written.
