• Connecting a LAN to an OpenVPN server via a windows 7 client gateway

  I've got OpenVPN set up between my windows 7 client and linux server. The goal is that I'll get secure access to a webapp running on the server from any computer on the client LAN. I'm using ccd to assign static ip addresses to each client connection, with key authentication. It's working on my client machine (10.83.41.9), and when you go to the gateway IP address (10.83.41.1), it loads up the webapp. Now I really need the other computers on the client LAN to be able to connect to the webapp as well, via the windows machine. The client has a static IP address of 192.168.2.100 on the LAN, and I've enabled IP forwarding in windows (confirmed by ipconfig /all). In my router I've forwarded 10.83.41.1 / 255.255.255.255 to 192.168.2.100. In the how-to, it mentions "Make sure your network interface is in promiscuous mode." as well. I can't find in the windows network config, so this may or may not be part of it. Ideally this would be achieved without any special configuration the other LAN computers. Not sure how far I'm going to get on my own at this point, any ideas? Is there something I'm missing, or anything I should need to know?

• Printer options follow Office documents

  One person (John) creates an Office document, and prints this document to his HP printer which is using HP Universal Printing PS (v4.7) driver. He has got Job Storage (Personal job) enabled for this printer, with custom username and a personal PIN. He later sends this document in an e-mail to his colleagues. Another person (Anne) opens the document, and tries to print the document to her HP printer (also using HP Universal Printing driver), but is not able to fetch it on the printer. The Job Storage options from Johns computer follows the Office Excel document, so Anne has to change this manually to her username and her PIN before she can print. What on earth is causing this, and how do we fix it?

  Hi guys, how can I create a .XLS document from a mySQL table using PHP? I have tried just about everything, with no success. • OpenVPN stopped working, what could have happened?

  I have Openvpn, and it worked great when I used it on PC (Windows 8), then I copied all files (Certificates and config) to an Android 4 phone to use them. Now, Openvpn works on the phone, but not the PC. Specifically, when I open Google I get: The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed, but the VPN seems to be connected. I have a simple question, could the problem be because I copied the same files? • Reporting Services 2008 R2 export to PDF embedded fonts not shown

  Hi, I have installed a font on the server that hosts Reporting Services 2008 R2, after that I've restarted the SSRS service, and sucessfully deployed a report with a custom font. I can see it using the font on the web, when I export it to Excel, however on PDF the font is not visible. If I click on File - Properties - Fonts. I'm presented with a screen that shows me a list of fonts on the PDF. There's an a icon with Helvetica-BoldOblique Type: Type 1 Encoding: Ansi Actual Font: Arial-BoldItalicMT Actual Font Type: TrueType The second one is a double T icon with the font I'm using and a (Embedded Subset) sufix. Its a True Type font and ANSI encoded. However the text is not using this embeded font, If I select the text and copy to a word document (I have the font installed) I can see the text in the font, however not on PDF, what's wrong here?

  Given a proper Office 2003 CD, is it possible to extract just the files that are needed for one application... i.e. Word or Excel? Browsing the CD, you can see WORD11.MSI. The goal here is to extract just the necessary bits to install the one app. Disk space isn't the concern, but rather the larger question of 'is it possible' and how? Is it possible to copy those files from the CD to another location to allow the installation of just one application? What files would be required from the CD to accomplish this?

  Hi, I need a software or simply an excel worksheet to schedule my employees. I have 16 lifeguards and 9 headguards, two of which act as coordinators one day a week. All employees cannot work more than 40 hours a week because of the provincial law. Furthermore, they must staff 6 beaches. Everybeach has different staffing needs. Furthermore, I would like the application to be able to to take into considerations all employees needs such as vacation days and prefered beaches. Finally I would like to create a staff rotation between beaches to encourage employee motivation. Is there an open source application for my needs available out there ?

• Can I password protect a Publisher file?

  I was asked ealier this week if it was possible to password protect a Microsoft Office 2007 Publisher document. I was under the impression that it would be like protecting a Word document, by going to Office Save As Word Document Tools General Options and creating a password to modify, like shown below. This also works for Excel documents. However, in Publisher 2007 the option is not there. The only option under "Tools" is "Map network drive". We overcame the issue as saving as a PDF and distributing that, but is there a way to do what we want?

  Hi there, so we've procured a monster of a SQL Cluster and 4 screaming fast machines running the apps/WFE to start up our MOSS 2007 Enterprise Server farm, however I've got one server from the old server farm configuration that was just re-imaged and is still running decently, it's a 32 bit machine where the others are 64 bit machines so it really can't serve the same role as a 64 bit machine. I'd like to see if there's a role for it somewhere in the farm, a few thoughts: --Dedicated Search Query Server --Dedicated Excel Services Has anyone out there been in a similar situation? What did they do?

  looked around on the site but nothing really concrete on my question. i will have about 120GB of data total, files are made up of 5MB files, excel, word and about 25 .pst files that are about 1.2GB each. Yes they use .pst over network, even though it is not recommended this is legacy setup without issue so we will continue to support this for another year or so. I need to know what you think about a stripe size of 256kb for the raid 10 based on the above requirements. I did try and bench with these settings and it seems alright without any real issue, just trying to rule out anything i might of missed. thanks.

  Is there equivalent Excel Val2() function in Numbers? I want to get value of a cell, which contains formula. What I need to get the result text from the cell. The following is example data: A B C ? 0 what? For example, in cell A1 I have a function like: =Right(C1) which is the end character of string in C1. Then I need to use the result of A1 in B1 =Count(C$1:C1, A1 = "?") As you can see, the result is 0. I think that A1 in above expression is referring to the formula of A1, instead of its result. Is there anything available like this in Numbers? =Count(C$1:C1, Val2(A1) = "?")

• Services filling up taskbar as applications

  Windows XP, with Windows Classic theme I've had a sporradic problem, where the task bar seems to fill up with lots of tasks, which seem to be names of services. When I open Task Manager, the Applications tab is filled with these names. I can still continue to use my PC to an extent, but it's not possible to remove all these icons from the taskbar, and other Windows UI features (e.g. Start bar) tend to be 'hollow' so I only see the outline; meaning I have to restart. See screenshot: The trigger seems to be clicking on the "Show Desktop" quick link when I have several applications open (e.g. Outlook, Excel). Has anyone else come across this? It's happened to me on my home machine before, but seems to happen more frequently (2-3 times a week) at work...

Wthout reference to verison. Discussions as recent as Jan 25, 2011. The Kernel I am using is form Debian Lenny, year ago. What should I do? Should I use Debian backports to install new "Approved" kernel? Am I missing something? What to do?

• Temp files created in every folder in Windows Server 2003

  So we have some folders which are shared over the AD Domain (Windows Server 2003). It was just noticed that in 2 of those folders (which contain only Excel and Word files), whenever a file is opened and closed, the temp file which was opened corresponding to that file still remains. Apparently, this's been going on for the past couple of years (which has led to an insane amount of temp files in each folder/subfolder under those shared folders). These shared folders are under the D:drive and not C: drive. There is only one group (containing 2 users) who access the said folders. I cannot understand if this has to do with the settings/permissions for the User/Group/Individual Client machine. For now, I have manually deleted all the temp files from each folder/subfolder. While this is not critical at the moment, I'd still like to clear this up. Also, it takes an additional fraction of a second to open folders that contains more than 10,000 temp files. • Script or Utility to convert .nab to .csv without importing double entries in Outlook.

  Currently our environment is migrating from Groupwise 7 to Outlook 2003 and we have multiple users with mission critical outside contacts in their frequent contacts that will have to be imported in Outlook. Currently our only solution is to export GW contacts to a .nab, import to excel to scrub out the contacts in our own domain (to avoid double entry) and convert to .csv. This current solution will require a lot of man hours for hand holding because most of our users are not technically savvy AT ALL and are frankly too busy to do this themselves. Anyone know of any kind of tool or script to assist with this?

• Changing Word mail merge data source locations in bulk?

  I've just moved a number of Word mail merge files, and a number of Excel spreadsheets that are the data sources for the mail merges, from a Windows XP computer to a Windows 7 computer, and now all the paths for the merge sources are incorrect (used to be c:\documents and settings\user\my documents.... now c:\users\documents....). While I can correct the path of the data source in each file individually, I was hoping that there would be some way of updating the files in bulk, as there are a relatively large number of them. Word 2007 is what is being used, but the documents are all in the previous DOC format (not DOCX).

• PostgreSQL under Mac OSX Lion. Wrong userpass?

  I'm completely helpless, maybe you guys can help me out. I installed PostgreSQL under my new MacOSX Lion. When I try to connect to my localhost with pgAdminIII.app it says: Error connecting to the database: FATAL password authentication failed for user postgres I just have no idea what to do? Non of my passwords work. Neither my adminpass nor "postgres" nor anyhting else. I tried to install it again via the console where I found this helpful link: http://www.peerassembly.com/2011/08/...resql-on-lion/ However the problem is, that when I try to run createuser -a -d _postgres the same password problem appears again. I just can't seem to find a solution to this. Always wrong password. Btw. I have a new User called "PostgreSQL" on my machine after I installed postgres. Any ideas? • Unable to browse some pdfs and docs.

  I have a web site that uses Microsoft Indexing Service to index and query a directory that holds various documents of type pdf, rtf, mht, and doc. The indexing and querying works well (for the most part); however, some files will load while others will not. This is a Windows Server 2003 box running the site using IIS 6. The indexed directory is a sub directory off of the site's root directory (i.e. http://my.domain.com/files/). The file paths are accurate in the URL; however, I can only access some of the files of each file type. The files that I cannot access give a 404 File Not Found. I am able to open all files via windows explorer;however, attempting to open them via a browser over http is hit and miss. Has anyone experienced this issue and know how to resolve it? Anyone have any idea why I could access some files but not others? Does anyone have any recommendations on what to look into to try this (i.e. does owner matter or something like that?)? • Mail Merge in Microsoft Word with images from Sharepoint

  Is there any way of doing a Mail Merge in Microsoft Word 2007 taking data, including images from a Sharepoint site? It's a bit crude, but I've managed to merge text by taking the data off the sharepoint site as an Excel sheet and then merging that. My problem is what to do with the images. I can set references to the images up in the Sharepoint site, however all I can find is a way of Mail Merging when images are in the same folder as the document you are trying to Merge and I can't find a sensible automated way to pulls these images together into one single folder.

• Terminal Server 2008 - Slow File open dialog in Office 2003

  I have yet another small issue that annoys me everyday in our Terminal Server environment. It seems when logging into Terminal Server users report the initial File | Open or File | Save As from within an application such as Word, Excel (2003 edition) is very slow to display the actual dialog box. The dialog appears quickly but it is whited out (sometimes displays not responding in title bar) and unresponsive, it then sits like this for about 20-30 secs before popping into life and displaying all the folders etc. The second time you go to save or open a file it loads almost instantly. Any suggestions or similar problems out there?

• Why might powerpoint not let me adjust the height of a table row?

  Powerpoint is fighting me every time I try to adjust the height of a table row, and I'm wondering if folks have ideas why that might be the case. See the attached picture; the Argentina row is of height 0.41", while the Nicaragua row is 0.61". Whenever I change to change the Nicaragua row (either by manually moving the row line, or by typing in a new height into the box) powerpoint immediately resets it. The difference? The Argentina row I typed in directly, while the Nicaragua row I pasted in from Excel. Thoughts what might be the difference?

• Windows 7 Index Search does not work in Google Drive folder

  I recently installed Google Drive on my Windows 7 laptop and began syncing all my files a few days ago. All was well until I needed to search for some documents in my local copy of Google Drive using Windows 7 Search feature. Windows did not return any results at all. Weirdly, when I turned off Windows indexing for that folder, it began returning results. I don't mind using windows search w/o the index but sometimes it takes too long to search (especially for keywords inside documents like Word and Excel). It's driving me nuts to the point where I have given up on Windows Search and switched to Google Drive's online search to look for files (not as convenient as I still have to go back go google drive in Windows to locate the folder). Any help appreciated!
