  • iTextSharp and VBnet question about headers

    - by bpSz
Hello! I'm wondering how can I put a header into my pdf file, cause i've tried the tutorials from here: http://itextsharp.sourceforge.net/tutorial/ch04.html And it have not worked. Ive done this: Dim head As New HeaderFooter(New Phrase("This is page: "), False) head.Border = Rectangle.NO_BORDER document.Header = head But VS2008 says that HeaderFooter it's not defined (line 1), and Footer it's not a member of "iTextSharp.text.document" (line 3). I've already included the imports at the begining of my code and i don't have any other problems with the iTextsharps (i mean that it is working apart of the header problem): Imports iTextSharp.text Imports iTextSharp.text.pdf Imports System.Data.SQLite Imports System.IO So please, can anyone explain to me how can i set a header for my pages? Regards

  • [ASP.NET] Odd HttpRequest behaviour

    - by barguast
I have a web service which runs with a HttpHandler class. In this class, I inspect the request stream for form / query string parameters. In some circumstances, it seemed as though these parameters weren't getting through. After a bit of digging around, I came across some behaviour I don't quite understand. See below: // The request contains 'a=1&b=2&c=3' // TEST ONLY: Read the entire request string contents; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(context.Request.InputStream)) { contents = sr.ReadToEnd(); } // Here 'contents' is usually correct - containing 'a=1&b=2&c=3'. Sometimes it is empty. string a = context.Request["a"]; // Here, a = null, regardless of whether the 'contents' variable above is correct Can anyone explain to me why this might be happening? I'm using a .NET WebClient and UploadDataAsync to perform the request on the client if that makes any difference. If you need any more information, please let me know.

  • Batch file conversion to vbscript

    - by blademasterson
I need to convert a batch file to vbscript but am unfamiliar with both. If I can understand what is going on in the batch file I can work out the vbscript easy enough. Problem is the batch file runs a few cscript commands which is supposed to have a syntax of cscript [script name] [host options] [script arguments] However whomever wrote the batch file doesn't use it in a standard manner so if someone could explain the use of the command I can work out the rest. Sample line: Filename and actual url's removed for safety sake cscript file.vbs -a -r url -h url -o raw

  • Exception.Data population bug?

    - by Christopher
Okay, .NET geniuses, here's the relevant part of my code: adapter.Fill(table); return; } catch(Exception ex) { SqlException sqlEx = ex as SqlException; I have an exception that's being thrown by adapter.Fill(), and when I put a breakpoint on the first line in the exception handler, the Exception.Data property already contains a key that is unique to my application. The thing is that it does not happen every time, but only when this exception is thrown within ~2 seconds of it last being thrown. Explain that!! :) Thanks!

  • naive bayesian spam filter question

    - by Microkernel
Hi guys, I am planning to implement spam filter using Naive Bayesian classification model. Online I see a lot of info on Naive Bayesian classification, but the problem is its a lot of mathematical stuff, than clearly stating how its done. And the problem is I am more of a programmer than a mathematician (yes I had learnt Probability and Bayesian theorem back in school, but out of touch for a long long time, and I don't have luxury of learning it now (Have nearly 3 weeks to come-up with a working prototype)). So if someone can explain or point me to location where its explained for programmers than a mathematician, it would be a great help. PS: By the way I have to implement it in C, if you want to know. :( Regards, Microkernel

  • Reverse engineering to get answers

    - by cornjuliox
So I've spent the last few days looking for a way to create a simple image drawing app with wxPython, and I think the key to doing just that is understanding how to use Device Contexts. The problem is that the wxPython demo program doesn't demonstrate DCs, and the docs for both wxPython and wxWidgets don't explain as much as I'd like to know so I've decided to try and 'reverse engineer' an existing app to see how its done. The first problem I have is that I don't know of any drawing apps written in wxPython (or any written in Python for that matter o.o), and the second is I don't know how I'd go about doing it. Am I right in saying that I'm going to need a copy of an application's Python source and something like Winpdb? What do professional programmers do when they find themselves in a situation like mine, needing answers that the docs don't provide?

  • setSearchDisplayController considered private-API?

    - by Adun
Hi, I recently submitted an app for app review but I got rejected because of the use of a private API. I'm still a bit new to iPhone developing so I was wondering if someone could help me understand how this part was rejected: UISearchBar *searchBar = [[[UISearchBar alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.tableView.frame.size.width, 0)] autorelease]; searchBar.showsCancelButton = NO; searchBar.placeholder = @"Search Exhibitors"; [searchBar sizeToFit]; [self.tableView setTableHeaderView:searchBar]; UISearchDisplayController *searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:searchBar contentsController:self]; [self performSelector:@selector(setSearchDisplayController:) withObject:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController release]; The part that they mentioned was the "setSearchDisplayController". I based the searching of a UITableView on the example given here. So can anyone explain why this is considered a private API?

  • Pros/Cons of document based database vs relational database

    - by damian
I've been trying to see if I can accomplish some requirements with a document based database, in this case CouchDB. Two generic requirements: CRUD of entities with some fields which have unique index on it ecommerce web app like eBay (better description here). And I'm begining to think that a Document-based database isn't the best choice to address these requirements. Furthermore, I can´t imagine a use for a Document based database (maybe my imagination is too little). Can you explain me if I am asking pears to an elm when I try to use a Document based database for this requirements?

  • Why Do Browsers Leak Memory?

    - by Dane Balia
A colleague and I were speaking about browsers (using browser control in a project), and it appears as plain as day that all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE, Opera) display the same characteristic or side-effect from their usage and that being 'Leaking Memory'. Can someone explain why that is the case? Surely as with any form of code, there should be proper garbage collection? PS. I've read about some defensive patterns on why this can happen from a developer's perspective. I am aware of an article Crockford wrote on IE; but why is the problem symptomatic of every browser? Thanks

  • java enterprise project

    - by darko petreski
Hi All, All the time we are hearing that java is enterprise. We have read many books about jpa, entity beans and other stuff. All this books explain this technology with some dummy examples. I have not seen a book that explains real problems with enterprise beans, java clients and security! I mean real book not some imaginated stupid examples . Is there any book that describes completely some enterprise system, Its architecture, communication, security, of course the client that uses the distributed components ? I need a book that will cover the flowing: server side components (ejb, jpa) client side java desktop application security (authentication and authorization) web services with complete authentication clustering (we can find for all of this a book, but there is no book that covers all this things in one piece. Also all the books are with dummy samples.) Or may be some project that is documented. Regards, Darko

  • Indesign scripting - Save Copy

    - by BobC
Hello, I'm using a Objective-C Scripting Bridge to communicate with InDesign CS3/CS4. Unfortunately I'm stuck on Save command which appears to be existing only as a part of the standard suite and not defined again in InDesign. Because of that it looks like I can Save, Save as but not Save Copy a document. Does anyone have any idea how to proceed? Just to shortly explain the difference between Save and Save Copy - using Save Copy the current doc doesn't change which is opposite to Save or Save as.

  • internet explorer ashx file problem

    - by vondip
My problem is a bit complicated: I am writing in c#, asp.net and using jquery I have a page that sends requests to the server using jquery's ajax method. I have a ashx file (handler) to respond to these request. User can perform several changes on several pages, then use some method that will call the ajax method. My ashx file reads some values From the session variables and acts accordingly. This works fine in all browsers but in internet explorer. In internet explorer the session seems to hold old information (old user ids'). It's incredible, the same code works fine in firefox, chrome and safari but fails with ie. What could be causing it? I have no clue where to even start looking for a solution. btw, Sorry for the general title, couldn't figure out how to explain in just few words. Thank You!

  • System.Net.Mail.MailMessage Raw Content / Spam Assassin

    - by Martin
Hey everyone, What I am trying to do is pass the raw content of an outgoing email to spamassassin in order to calculate a spam score. I am stuck in how I might get the raw content of the email. My C# code currently just constructs the MailMessage and passes it the SmtpClient's Send() method. Before sending, is there a way to get a raw version of the mail message (as the protocol might see it) so that I can pass this to the spamassassin tool for spam assessment? If I've not explained very well, let me know and I'll try to explain better. Thanks in advance, Martin.

  • Compile OpenSSL from source using Xilinx EDK

    - by Asanka
I want to use openSSL functions in my xilinx C++ project. So i downloaded the source and tried to compile using the makefile. But unfortunately the linux box I was provided did not contained the required software (perl5, make, etc) to compile the source using makefile. So as the second option i tried to compile the source as a shared library. So i made a new project using existing openSSL source. But all the attempts were failed since it gave lots of errors including missing headers, unknown defines etc. If someone knows how to compile openssl as a shared library using Xilinx toolchains please help me. It would be really helpful if someone can provide the complete project which can be opened using Xilinx EDK. If better alternative exists to use openssl with xilinx toolchains please explain that also. Thanks in advance....

  • C# yield return not returning an item as expected

    - by Jiho Han
I have following code: private void ProcessQueue() { foreach (MessageQueueItem item in GetNextQueuedItem()) PerformAction(item); } private IEnumerable<MessageQueueItem> GetNextQueuedItem() { if (_messageQueue.Count > 0) yield return _messageQueue.Dequeue(); } Initially there is one item in the queue as ProcessQueue is called. During PerformAction, I would add more items to _messageQueue. However, the foreach loop quits after the initial item and does not see the subsequent items added. I sense that somehow the initial state of the queue is being captured by yield. Can someone explain what is happening and give a solution?

  • Why is UIApplicationWillChangeStatusBarFrameNotification not sent when the in-call status bar is sho

    - by Sbrocket
I've been trying to listen for changes in the status bar height – such as when the in-call status bar is shown or hidden – by listening for the UIApplicationWillChangeStatusBarFrameNotification notification to be sent. Fairly straightforward code here... [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(statusBarWillChangeFrame:) name:UIApplicationWillChangeStatusBarFrameNotification object:nil]; But the notification never seems to be sent in that case, either on the Simulator by using the "Toggle In-Call Status Bar" option or on the device when a call ends with the application open. In addition, the similar UIApplicationDelegate method is not called. According to the documentation, UIApplicationWillChangeStatusBarFrameNotification Posted when the application is about to change the frame of the status bar. The userInfo dictionary contains an NSValue object that encapsulates a CGRect structure expressing the location and size of the new status bar frame. Use UIApplicationStatusBarFrameUserInfoKey to access this value. Can anyone explain why this notification is not being sent in response to the in-call status bar being shown or hidden? According to the documentation, it should be.

  • C# Conditional Operator Not a Statement?

    - by abelenky
I have a simple little code fragment that is frustrating me: HashSet<long> groupUIDs = new HashSet<long>(); groupUIDs.Add(uid)? unique++ : dupes++; At compile time, it generates the error: Only assignment, call, increment, decrement, and new object expressions can be used as a statement HashSet.Add is documented to return a bool, so the ternary (?) operator should work, and this looks like a completely legitimate way to track the number of unique and duplicate items I add to a hash-set. When I reformat it as a if-then-else, it works fine. Can anyone explain the error, and if there is a way to do this as a simple ternary operator?

  • Rails application settings?

    - by Danny McClelland
Hi Everyone, I am working on a Rails application that has user authentication which provides an administrators account. Within the administrators account I have made a page for sitewide settings. I was wondering what the norm is for creating these settings. Say for example I would like one of the settings to be to change the name of the application name, or change a colour of the header. What I am looking for is for someone to explain the basic process/method - not necessarily specific code - although that would be great! Thanks, Danny

  • Why is the user.dir system property working in Java?

    - by Geo
Almost every article I read told me that you can't have chdir in Java. The accepted answer to this question says you can't do it in Java. However, here's some of the stuff I tried : geo@codebox:~$ java -version java version "1.6.0_14" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing) Here's a test class I'm using : import java.io.*; public class Ch { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println(new File(".").getAbsolutePath()); System.setProperty("user.dir","/media"); System.out.println(new File(".").getAbsolutePath()); } } geo@codebox:~$ pwd /home/geo geo@codebox:~$ java Ch /home/geo/. /media/. Please explain why this worked. Can I use this from now on and expect it to work the same way on all platforms?

  • Using DockPanel Suite's XML saving with My.Settings

    - by Cyclone
In vb.net, how can I use SaveAsXML and LoadFromXML (DockPanel Suite functions) with My.Settings? I know there is a way to save it to a stream, but I don't know enough about System.IO to do this. DockPanel Suite: http://sourceforge.net/projects/dockpanelsuite/ I would very much prefer to store configuration using My.Settings instead of as an XML file. Thanks for the help! EDIT: Since the only person to answer so far has since deleted their answer, I feel I should explain further: Those two methods can both accept a stream object, but I have not used System.IO enough to know how to properly initialize a stream, let alone get a string out of a stream. EDIT: Googling has gotten me nowhere. EDIT: Still waiting for this. I've tried everything...

  • Google Chrome Speed Tracer what does Request Timing and Response Timing actually measure?

    - by Bryce Thomas
I'm testing out the Google Chrome Speed Tracer on a few common web pages and taking a look through the results. One thing I'm not sure I understand is what the "Request Timing" and "Response Timing" properties of resources are actually measuring. Initially I thought Request Timing must measure the time from a request for a resource being sent and when that request arrived at the server. However, I then wondered how the Speed Tracer would actually have any way of measuring this. Furthermore, the Response Timing that I'm getting for resources tends to be far less than the Request Timing (e.g. 500ms request, 1ms response), which is a little bit suss. So is anyone able to explain exactly what Request Timing and Response Timing are measuring?

  • What is the relaxation condition in graph theory

    - by windopal
Hi, I'm trying to understand the main concepts of graph theory and the algorithms within it. Most algorithms seem to contain a "Relaxation Condition" I'm unsure about what this is. Could some one explain it to me please. An example of this is dijkstras algorithm, here is the pseudo-code. 1 function Dijkstra(Graph, source): 2 for each vertex v in Graph: // Initializations 3 dist[v] := infinity // Unknown distance function from source to v 4 previous[v] := undefined // Previous node in optimal path from source 5 dist[source] := 0 // Distance from source to source 6 Q := the set of all nodes in Graph // All nodes in the graph are unoptimized - thus are in Q 7 while Q is not empty: // The main loop 8 u := vertex in Q with smallest dist[] 9 if dist[u] = infinity: 10 break // all remaining vertices are inaccessible from source 11 remove u from Q 12 for each neighbor v of u: // where v has not yet been removed from Q. 13 alt := dist[u] + dist_between(u, v) 14 if alt < dist[v]: // Relax (u,v,a) 15 dist[v] := alt 16 previous[v] := u 17 return dist[] Thanks

  • Web Service to connect to an API and get the response back from the API

    - by Scarlette_June
This is a general Programming question I'm new to Java Web services programming using Apache Axis and JAX-RPC. We need to build 2 components,a App engine (Shopping cart, Payment Gateway integration etc..) and a UI Control Panel over an existing API. The API understands only XML.How we must communicate with the API? link text We have been asked to write a Web Service to establish the communication. Please provide the steps and a Code example/snippet on how to connect to an existing API through a Webservice and get the response back from the API to the calling Webservice. John,I hope I have been able to explain my query. If you have ideas on how to communicate with the API to get the desired result to the user,Please let us know. We have just started our careers in technology a year back post our graduation and this project is our very first Java EE project.

  • posix pthreads in c

Iam new to c programming and needs some help. long *taskids[NUM_THREADS]; for(t=0; t<NUM_THREADS; t++) { taskids[t] = (long *) malloc(sizeof(long)); *taskids[t] = t; printf("Creating thread %ld\n", t); rc = pthread_create(&threads[t], NULL, PrintHello, (void *) taskids[t]); ... } This code fragment demonstrates how to pass a simple integer to each thread. The calling thread uses a unique data structure for each thread, insuring that each thread's argument remains intact throughout the program. Iam not able to understand how this is happening can somebody explain it??

  • Does JSONP scale? How many JSONP requests can I send?

    - by Cheeso
Based on Please explain JSONP, I understand that JSONP can be used to get around the same-origin policy. But in order to do that, the page must use a <script> tag. I know that pages can dynamically emit new script tags, such as with: <script type="text/javascript" language='javascript'> document.write('<script type="text/javascript" ' + 'id="contentloadtag" defer="defer" ' + 'src="javascript:void(0)"><\/script>'); var contentloadtag=document.getElementById("contentloadtag"); contentloadtag.onreadystatechange=function(){ if (this.readyState=="complete") { init(); } } </script> (the above works in IE, don't think it works in FF). ... but does this mean, effectively, that every JSONP call requires me to emit another <script> tag into the document? Can I remove the <script> tags that are done?
