  • Ubuntu 13.10. Can't access Internet and unable to install anything

    - by Crandacular
After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 I was not able to access the Internet on any program that required it. So I uninstalled Firefox but I could reinstall from the software center so I used the terminal, everything ran smoothly, I told me how much additional space would be used, then it said "Err http://us.archive.ubuntu.com /ubuntu/ saucy/main Firefox i386 24.0+build1-0ubuntu1 Could not resolve 'us.archive.ubuntu.com Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/f/firefox/firefox_24.0+build1-0ubuntu1_i386.deb Could not resolve 'us.archive.ubuntu.com' E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?" And with both given possible fixes I also get errors. Please help, it's been like this sense the day the 13.10 update was released

  • How to add sitemap of a blogger blog to Google webmaster tools?

    - by Chankey Pathak
I have two blogs. Let's say http://name.blogspot.com/ and the other one is http://name2.blogspot.com/ For blog 1: While submitting sitemap to Google webmaster tool I selected the option and then added rss.xml at last. (http://name.blogspot.com/rss.xml) Sitemap added successfully. For blog 2: I followed the same procedure but it didn't work. Then I tried to open the url (http://name.blogspot.com/rss.xml). The url was showing the atom feeds. I tried same with the other blog but that url is redirecting to the feedburner feeds. I think this is the reason why the other blog's sitemap is not getting submitted. Help me with it.

  • Dot Net Code Coverage Test Tools - there is now a choice

    - by TATWORTH
I have been pleasantly surprised this week to discover that there is a choice of tools for measuring Code Coverage. If you have Visual Studio Team edition, then if you are using MSTEST, then you have built-in code coverage, however even then you may need a standalone tool. The tools I have found are (costs are per seat): 1) NCover  http://www.ncover.com/ (from $199 to $658 per seat) I have used it but it is very expensive. 2) PartCover http://sourceforge.net/projects/partcover/ - Free!  Steep initial learning curve to get it to work. 3) Dot Cover from http://www.jetbrains.com/dotcover/ - Personal licence - normally $99 but at a introductory price of $75 and free for OpenSource Developers (details at http://www.jetbrains.com/dotcover/buy/buy.jsp#opensource_) 4) Test Matrix from http://submain.com/products/testmatrix.aspx - $149 for a licence

  • Wordnik Accelerator

    - by prabhpreet
Wow, creating IE Accelerators is superbly easy. If you want to learn how to create one, go here (some MSDN blog) and the MSDN documentation (clearly written). I was fed up of dictionary.com bringing all those popups and the stupid definitions of Google's dictionary. So I decided to scratch my own itch. I randomly stumbled on the site called Wordnik and it provides with all examples plus definitions plus lots more for words and its popup-free (as far as I know). So I decided to write and accelerator. Here is the source code (Yes, this is it): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <os:openServiceDescription xmlns:os="http://www.microsoft.com/schemas/openservicedescription/1.0"> <os:homepageUrl>http://www.wordnik.com</os:homepageUrl> <os:display> <os:name>View on Wordnik</os:name> <os:description>Looking up words on an awesome word site called Wordnik </os:description> <os:icon>http://www.wordnik.com/favicon.ico</os:icon> </os:display> <os:activity category="Define"> <os:activityAction context="selection"> <os:execute method="get" action="http://www.wordnik.com/words/{selection}" ></os:execute> </os:activityAction> </os:activity> </os:openServiceDescription> That’s it. To get it, go here. Enjoy!

  • Adding MX records to DNS

    - by Teddy
Let's say I have a computer A which is running postfix, computer B is running tinydns. On domain project.domain.com I'm running httpd server and other server with DNS (tinydns) have entries like =project.domain.com:1.2.3.4:86400 and +project.domain.com:1.2.3.4:86400 where 1.2.3.4 is correct addres for server which runs httpd server. I also have a postfix mail server on 1.2.3.5 which I'd like to work with this domain (project.domain.com). I'm afraid that if I add another alias like +project.domain.com:1.2.3.5:86400 to tinydns configuration - it could break. How that entry should look like? Thank you for any hints.

  • Plesk 9 - Client panel access via client domain, not server host name

    - by Ben
I've setup a Plesk 9 vps recently. The plesk admin is accessible at, say, http://superawesomedomain.com:8443. I'm setting up a couple of client domains on the server. I'd like clients to be able to access plesk via a similar url, but instead it would be something like http://inferiorclientdomain.com:8443. This works ok in a sense, but it always redirect the request for inferiorclientdomain.com:8443 to superawesomedomain.com:8443. I'd like the control panel access url to remain on inferiorclientdomain.com. Is that possible? EDIT: System Info. Plesk 9.5.2 on CentOS 5 (Build 95100504.12)

  • nginx returning authentication in IE

    - by James MacLeod
    I am having a few issues with an nginx server. I have a site setup that keeps requesting authentication when accessed from IE but in firefox and safari the site is fine no request for authentication. Reading around the web I can see that it could be the gzip that may be causing errors, but the other sites are working without issue. Here is the config: user sysadmin sysadmin; worker_processes 8; error_log logs/error.log debug; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { passenger_root /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/passenger-2.2.9; passenger_ruby /usr/bin/ruby1.8; include mime.types; default_type application/octet-stream; client_header_timeout 3m; client_body_timeout 3m; client_max_body_size 5m; send_timeout 3m; client_header_buffer_size 1k; large_client_header_buffers 4 4k; gzip on; gzip_min_length 1100; gzip_buffers 4 8k; gzip_types text/plain; output_buffers 1 32k; postpone_output 1460; sendfile on; tcp_nopush on; tcp_nodelay on; keepalive_timeout 75 20; server { listen 80; server_name .reg-power.com .reg-power.co.uk .reg-power.eu .reg-power.eu.com .reg-power.net .reg-power.org .reg-power.org.uk .reg-power.uk.com .regegen.eu .regpower.co.uk .regpower.eu .regpower.eu.com .regpower.net .regpower.org .regpower.org.uk .regpower.uk.com .renegen.com .renegen.eu .renewableenergygeneration.co.uk .renewableenergygeneration.com reg.rails1.flowhost.co.uk; root /home/sysadmin/reg/current/public; passenger_enabled on; rails_env production; index index.html; } server { listen 80; server_name media.reg-power.com; root /home/sysadmin/admin/current/public; index index.html; } server { listen 80; server_name admin.reg-power.com admin.rails1.flowhost.co.uk; root /home/sysadmin/admin/current/public; passenger_enabled on; rails_env production; index index.html; } server { listen 80; server_name .livingfuels.co.uk livingfuels.rails1.flowhost.co.uk; root /home/sysadmin/livingfuels/current/public; passenger_enabled on; rails_env production; index index.html; } server { listen 80; server_name .regbiopower.com .regbiopower.co.uk regbiopower.rails1.flowhost.co.uk; root /home/sysadmin/regbiopower/current/public; passenger_enabled on; rails_env production; index index.html; } server { listen 80; server_name .clpwindprojects.co.uk clp.rails1.flowhost.co.uk; access_log /home/sysadmin/clp/logs/access.log; location / { root /home/sysadmin/clp; index index.php; if (-f $request_filename) { expires 30d; break; } if (!-e $request_filename) { rewrite ^(.+)$ /index.php?q=$1 last; } } location ~ .php$ { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:49232; #this must point to the socket spawn_fcgi is running on. fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /home/sysadmin/clp$fastcgi_script_name; # same path as above fastcgi_param QUERY_STRING $query_string; fastcgi_param REQUEST_METHOD $request_method; fastcgi_param CONTENT_TYPE $content_type; fastcgi_param CONTENT_LENGTH $content_length; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_NAME $fastcgi_script_name; fastcgi_param REQUEST_URI $request_uri; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_URI $document_uri; fastcgi_param DOCUMENT_ROOT /home/sysadmin/clp; fastcgi_param SERVER_PROTOCOL $server_protocol; fastcgi_param GATEWAY_INTERFACE CGI/1.1; fastcgi_param SERVER_SOFTWARE nginx/$nginx_version; fastcgi_param REMOTE_ADDR $remote_addr; fastcgi_param REMOTE_PORT $remote_port; fastcgi_param SERVER_ADDR $server_addr; fastcgi_param SERVER_PORT $server_port; fastcgi_param SERVER_NAME $server_name; } } } As you can see there is no reference to a http authentication

  • Host a subdomain from an IIS7 server on another server

    - by brennanmur
I am running a network with two server, one running SBS 2008 which hosts a majority of the network services (DNS, DHCP, Exchange, IIS, DC, AD...), including the primary webpage at mydomain.com. The other server is a linux box running an apache web server. I'm trying to set the apache server to host the site site2.mydomain.com. I have changed the DNS settings on the first server so that site2.mydomain.com can be accessed from the internal network, but I cannot access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I have tried using server farms and application request routing cache, as described on this page, http://forums.iis.net/t/1156458.aspx, but I still can't access site2.mydomain.com from the internet. I don't have much experience with web servers, I usually just administer local networks, so I'm not sure if I'm going about this the right way. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Why use sealed instead of static on a class?

    - by sq33G
Our system has several utility classes. Some people on our team use (A) a class with all-static methods and a private constructor. Others use (B) a class with all-static methods (these the juniors). On code analysis, (A) and (B) raise warning CA1052, which recommends marking the class as sealed. Included in the MSDN documentation there is the following advice: If you are targeting .NET Framework 2.0 or earlier, a better approach is to mark the type as static. Why does this make any sense? I would have thought the opposite; AFAIK, previous to 2.0 there was no way to mark a class as static.

  • Using RegEx's in Multi-Channel Funnels in Google Analytics

    - by Rob H
For some reason, I can't get my multi-channel funnel which utilizes RegEx's in the path steps to function -- it keeps coming back with no data. There are a few variables which may be holding things up, but I can't figure out the origin of the problem, nor a solution. Here's the situation: The funnel is tracking conversions, defined as when a user completes 4 steps to signup Steps are not "required" Default URL is set to https://example.com There is a 302 redirect set up on our site that leads from http://example.com to https://example.com Within the funnel, steps switch from non-secure pages (unless browser is set to secure browsing), to secure pages once the user moves from the landing page to the second page of the sign-up process (account placeholder has been created) URL at that point contains the variable of publisher number within (but not at the end) the URL My RegEx's are all properly written as tested on rubular.com

  • SQL Source Control with Vault Support Officially Released

    - by Ajarn Mark Caldwell
HOORAY!  It is officially here!  Today, Red-Gate officially released SQL Source Control version 2.1 with support for Vault. While we have been happily and successfully running the beta version (a.k.a. the Early Access release) of Red-Gate SQL Source Control with support for Vault for quite a while, it is good to have the official RTM (or GOLD, or PROD, or whatever you call your “no-longer-in-beta”) release of the product. As a courtesy to those who have not already read the series, allow me to provide you with these links to my previous posts about this fantastic tool. Using SQL Source Control with Fortress or Vault – Part 1 – Introduction and initial thoughts about the tool and source controlling SQL code in general. Using SQL Source Control with Fortress or Vault – Part 2 – Additional details about included features and a few warnings. Source Control and SQL Development – Part 3 – How we did it in the good ol’ days before this product came along. Using SQL Source Control and Vault Professional Part 4 – A few closing thoughts.

  • Multiple email accounts from the same server in Emacs Gnus

    - by docgnome
I'm trying to set up Gnus to use both my gmail accounts but I can only ever get one at a time to show up in the list of folders. (setq gnus-select-method '(nnimap "[email protected]" (nnimap-address "secure.emailsrvr.com") (nnimap-server-port 993) (nnimap-stream ssl))) (setq gnus-secondary-select-methods '((nnimap "myfirstaddress@gmail.com" (nnimap-address "imap.gmail.com") (nnimap-server-port 993) (nnimap-stream ssl)) (nnimap "mysecondaddress@gmail.com" (nnimap-address "imap.gmail.com") (nnimap-server-port 993) (nnimap-stream ssl)))) That is the relevant portions of my .gnus file. It prompts me for three username passwords on startup. After I enter all three, I can access my work account and the gmail account that I enter the creds for second. This is really annoying! Any ideas?

  • Do we still need to avoid using frame/iframe for good SEO?

    - by Marco Demaio
I thought frame and iframe are something bad for SEO. Today I was doing some search and searching for "numismatica" in Google.it and the 3rd site is www.lemonete.com (ranks high also in Google.com). It's all made with frames. A competitor site (www.nummus.com) that is all done with no frames ranks much lower when searching for the same word: "numismatica" So can we use frame, don't they hit SEO ranking anymore? Any explanation (possibly simple) would be appreciated also about the fact the 2nd site ranks much lower. :) UPDATE: thanks for all the replies , I noticed now I wrote down the wrong url, it was not lemonete.it (which is just a spam site) but lemonete.com.

  • June 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE Released

    - by Eric P. Maurice
Hi, this is Eric Maurice. Oracle just released the June 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE.  This Critical Patch Update provides 14 new security fixes across Java SE products.  As discussed in previous blog entries, Critical Patch Updates for Java SE will, for the foreseeable future, continue to be released on a separate schedule than that of other Oracle products due to previous commitments made to Java customers.  12 of the 14 Java SE vulnerabilities fixed in this Critical Patch Update may be remotely exploitable without authentication.  6 of these vulnerabilities have a CVSS Base Score of 10.0.  In accordance with Oracle’s policies, these CVSS 10 scores represent instances where a user running a Java applet or Java Web Start application has administrator privileges (as is typical on Windows XP).  When the user does not run with administrator privileges (typical on the Solaris and Linux operating systems), the corresponding CVSS impact scores for Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability for these vulnerabilities would be "Partial" instead of "Complete", thus lowering these CVSS Base Scores to 7.5. Due to the high severity of these vulnerabilities, Oracle recommends that customers obtain and apply these security fixes as soon as possible: Developers should download the latest release at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html    Java users should download the latest release of JRE at http://java.com, and of course  Windows users can take advantage of the Java Automatic Update to get the latest release. In addition, Oracle recommends removing old an unused versions  of Java as the latest version is always the recommended version as it contains the most recent enhancements, and bug and security fixes.  For more information: •Instructions on removing older (and less secure) versions of Java can be found at http://java.com/en/download/faq/remove_olderversions.xml  •Users can verify that they’re running the most recent version of Java by visiting: http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp   •The Advisory for the June 2012 Critical Patch Update for Java SE is located at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/javacpujun2012-1515912.html

  • PeopleSoft Grants & the Federal Agency Letter of Credit Draw Changes

    - by Mark Rosenberg
For decades, most, if not all, US Federal agencies that sponsor research allowed grant recipients to request and receive payments using pooled accounts, commonly known as pooled letter of credit (LOC) draws. This enabled organizations, such as universities and hospitals, fast and efficient access to reimbursement of the expenditures they incurred conducting research across a portfolio of grants. To support this business practice, the PeopleSoft Grants solution has delivered an LOC Draw report to provide the total request amount along with all of the supporting invoice details for reconciliation and audit purposes. Now, in an attempt to provide greater transparency, eliminate fraud, strengthen accountability for grant-related financial transactions, and simplify grant award closeout, many US Federal sponsors are transitioning from the “pooling” letter of credit draw method to requesting on a “grant-by-grant” basis. The National Science Foundation, the second largest issuer of Federal awards, already transitioned to detailed grant draws in 2013. And, in response to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) directive to HHS-supported Agencies, the largest Federal awards sponsor, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will fully transition to the new HHS subaccount draw method. This will require NIH award recipients to request payments based on actual expenses incurred on an award-by-award basis. NIH is expected to fully transition to this new draw method by the end of Federal fiscal year 2015.  (The NIH had planned to fully transition to this new method by the end of fiscal 2014; however, the impact to institutions was deemed to be significant enough that a reprieve was recently granted.) In light of these new Federal draw requirements, we have recently released these new features to aid our customers on both PeopleSoft Grants releases 9.1 and 9.2:1. Federal Award Identification Number on the Proposal and Award Profile 2. Letter of credit fields on contract lines to support award basis draws and comply with Federal close out mandates3. Process to produce both pro forma and final LOC Draw Reports in BI Publisher report format4. Subacccount ID field on the LOC Summary and a new BI Publisher version of the LOC Summary report 5. Added Subaccount Field and contract info to be displayed on the LOC summary page6. Ability to generate by a variety of dimensions pro forma and invoiced draw listings 7. Queries for generation and manipulation of data to upload into sponsor payment request systems and perform payment matching8. Contracts LOC Close Out query to quickly review final balances prior to initiating final draws and preparing Federal Financial Reports prior to close The PeopleSoft Development team actively monitors this and other major Federal changes and continues working closely with the Grants Product Advisory Group of the Higher Education User Group to ensure a clear understanding of what our customers need in order to transition to new approaches for doing business with the Federal government. For more information regarding the enhancements to the PeopleSoft Grants solution, existing customers can login to My Oracle Support and review the Enhancements to Letter of Credit Process (Doc ID 1912692.1) associated with resolution ID 904830. This enhanced LOC functionality is available in both PeopleSoft FSCM 9.1 Bundle #31 and PeopleSoft FSCM 9.2 Update Image 8.

  • Multiple thunderbird Icons in System Tray(Windows 7) & TaskBar

    - by chobo2
Is this some new "feature" for thunderbird 8? When I start thunderbird it starts by opening thunderbird. Once it is loading thunderbird it loads another 6 thunderbirds. The windows are called Mozilla Thunderbird Inbox - myEmail@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - AotherEmail@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - AotherEmail2@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird Inbox - AotherEmail2@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird (yes it repeats the same one a few times) Inbox - AotherEmail2@gmail.com - Mozilla Thuderbird I have 7 email accounts but for whatever reason it only made 3 windows. What happened to the one window? When I minimize to tray I got 4 of thunderbird icons. When closing one of them all of the close. My other windows 7(32 bit not 64 bit) only have one instance.

  • SharePoint For Newbie Developers: Code Scope

    - by Mark Rackley
So, I continue to try to come up with diagrams and information to help new SharePoint developers wrap their heads around this SharePoint beast, especially when those newer to development are on my team. To that end, I drew up the below diagram to help some of our junior devs understand where/when code is being executed in SharePoint at a high level. Note that I say “High Level”… This is a simplistic diagram that can get a LOT more complicated if you want to dive in deeper.  For the purposes of my lesson it served its purpose well. So, please no comments from you peanut gallery about information 3 levels down that’s missing unless it adds to the discussion.  Thanks So, the diagram below details where code is executed on a page load and gives the basic flow of the page load. There are actually many more steps, but again, we are staying high level here. I just know someone is still going to say something like “Well.. actually… the dlls are getting executed when…”  Anyway, here’s the diagram with some information I like to point out: Code Scope / Where it is executed So, looking at the diagram we see that dlls and XSL are executed on the server and that JavaScript/jQuery are executed on the client. This is the main thing I like to point out for the following reasons: XSL (for the most part) is faster than JavaScript I actually get this question a lot. Since XSL is executed on the server less data is getting passed over the wire and a beefier machine (hopefully) is doing the processing. The outcome of course is better performance. When You are using jQuery and making Web Service calls you are building XML strings and sending them to the server, then ALL the results come back and the client machine has to parse through the XML and use what it needs and ignore the rest (and there is a lot of garbage that comes back from SharePoint Web Service calls). XSL and JavaScript cannot work together in the same scope Let me clarify. JavaScript can send data back to SharePoint in postbacks that XSL can then use. XSL can output JavaScript and initiate JavaScript variables.  However, XSL cannot call a JavaScript method to get a value and JavaScript cannot directly interact with XSL and call its templates. They are executed in there scope only. No crossing of boundaries here. So, what does this all mean? Well, nothing too deep. This is just some basic fundamental information that all SharePoint devs need to understand. It will help you determine what is the best solution for your specific development situation and it will help the new guys understand why they get an error when trying to call a JavaScript Function from within XSL.  Let me know if you think quick little blogs like this are helpful or just add to the noise. I could probably put together several more that are similar.  As always, thanks for stopping by, hope you learned something new.

  • Brain picking during job interview

    - by mark
Recently, I had a job interview at a big Silicon Valley company for a senior software developer/R&D position. I had several technical phone screens, an all day on-site interview and more technical phone screens for another position later. The interviews went really well, I have a PhD and working experience in the area I was applying for yet no offer was made. So far, so good. It was an interesting experience, I am employed, absolutely no hard feelings about this. Some of the interviewers asked really detailed questions to the point of being suspicious about new technologies I have been working on. These technologies are still in development and have not come to market yet. I know some major hardware/software companies are working on this too. I have had many interviews before and based on my former interviewing experience and the impression some of the interviewers left behind, I know now all this company wanted from me is to extract some ideas about what I did in this field. Remember, I am referring to a R&D position, not the standard software developer stuff. Has anybody encountered this situation so far? And how did you deal with it? I am not so much concerned about "stealing" ideas but more about being tricked into showing up for an interview when there is no intension to hire anyway. I am considering refusing technical interviews in the future and instead proposing a trial period in which the company can easily reconsider its hiring decision.

  • How can I set up Friendly URL to Nginx?

    - by MKK
I'm trying to use dokuwiki with its Friendly URL on Nginx. The problem that I'm facing is, it doesn' show correct path to any link(even stylesheet, and images) on every page It looks that paths are missing wiki/ part. If I click on the image and show its destination, it shows this url http://foo-sample.com/lib/tpl/dokuwiki/images/logo.png But it has to be this below. http://foo-sample.com/wiki/lib/tpl/dokuwiki/images/logo.png and login URL is not working either. If I click on login link, it takes me to http://foo-sample.com/wiki/start?do=login&sectok=ff7d4a68936033ed398a8b82ac9 and it says 404 Not Found I took a look at this https://www.dokuwiki.org/rewrite#nginx and tried as much as possible. However it still doesn't work. Here's my conf files. How can I fix this problem? dokuwiki is set in /usr/share/wiki /etc/nginx/conf.d/rails.conf upstream sample { ip_hash; server unix:/var/run/unicorn/unicorn_foo-sample.sock fail_timeout=0; } server { listen 80; server_name foo-sample.com; root /var/www/html/foo-sample/public; location /wiki { alias /usr/share/wiki; index doku.php; } location ~ ^/wiki.+\.php$ { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index doku.php; fastcgi_split_path_info ^/wiki(.+\.php)(.*)$; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME /usr/share/wiki$fastcgi_script_name; include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params; } } /usr/share/wiki/.htaccess ## Enable this to restrict editing to logged in users only ## You should disable Indexes and MultiViews either here or in the ## global config. Symlinks maybe needed for URL rewriting. #Options -Indexes -MultiViews +FollowSymLinks ## make sure nobody gets the htaccess files <Files ~ "^[\._]ht"> Order allow, deny Deny from all Satisfy All </Files> # Uncomment these rules if you want to have nice URLs using # $conf['userewrite'] = 1 - not needed for rewrite mode 2 # Not all installations will require the following line. If you do, # change "/dokuwiki" to the path to your dokuwiki directory relative # to your document root. # If you enable DokuWikis XML-RPC interface, you should consider to # restrict access to it over HTTPS only! Uncomment the following two # rules if your server setup allows HTTPS. • Is there a weight for html link?

    - by Questions
I would like to know if there is any weight associated with a html link (its backlink) when google does crawling/indexing. Will 1,2 & 3 be ever considered as a backlink by Google? 1. <a href="xyz.com">1</a> // one character link 2. <a href="xyz.com"> </a> //blank space link 3. <a href="xyz.com">!</a> //special character link 4. <a href="xyz.com">keyword</a> //meaningful word link I hope my question is understandable and guess this is right forum. I don't know to put it in other words. Thanks in advance.
