Apache mod_jk replacing mod_rewrite rules

We have a slightly complex Apache 2.2 setup in front of a Tomcat 6.0 instance. The main Tomcat webapp is deployed in: /opt/tomcat/webapps/ROOT But we also have static content that we update semi-regularly. We didn't want to force a new build and deploy of the webapp, so that's stored separately in folders like: /opt/tomcat/webapps/css /opt/tomcat/webapps/foo /opt/tomcat/webapps/bar To handle this from Apache, we use mod_rewrite and rules look something like the following: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^/css/(.*)$ - [L] RewriteCond ROOT/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^/css/(.*)$ ROOT/$1 [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(jpg|png|html|js)$ - [L] RewriteCond ROOT/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^(.*)\.(jpg|png|html|js)$ - [L] RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http://localhost:8080/$1 [P,L] ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/ I now think I might want to start using mod_jk and I have two questions: Is it even worth using mod_jk? I don't need load balancing. Is it even possible to handle the cases I outlined where the static content is referenced as "http://www.example.com/css/foo.css", but we don't know if it's located in the Tomcat webapp or in one of the static folders.

How do I get nginx to issue 301 requests to HTTPS location, when SSL handled by a load-balancer?

I've noticed that there's functionality enabled in nginx by default, whereby a url request without a trailing slash for a directory which exists in the filesystem automatically has a slash added through a 301 redirect. E.g. if the directory css exists within my root, then requesting http://example.com/css will result in a 301 to http://example.com/css/. However, I have another site where the SSL is offloaded by a load-balancer. In this case, when I request https://example.com/css, nginx issues a 301 redirect to http://example.com/css/, despite the fact that the HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO header is set to https by the load balancer. Is this an nginx bug? Or a config setting I've missed somewhere?

Best practice for making code portable for domains, subdomains or directores

I recently coded something where it wasn't known if the end code would reside in a subdomain (http://user.domain.com/) or in a subdomain (http://domain.com/user), and I was lost as to the best practice for these unknown scenarios. I could thinks of a couple: Use absolute paths (/css/styles.css) and modrewrite if it ends up being /user Have a settings file and declare a variable with the path (<? php echo $domain . "/css/styles" ?>) Use relative paths (../css/styles.css). What is the best way to handle this?

Why do local HTML files take longer to load in IE compared to Firefox?

I am creating a local HTML file that links to 2 external CSS files and 3 external JS files. When I refresh this in Internet Explorer 9, the page takes over a minute to load compared to instantly in Firefox (latest stable build. When I remove the external CSS and JS references, IE9 loads the page instantly. Can anyone explain why IE9 takes so long to load local HTML files with references to external CSS and JS files?

Customizing UPK outputs (Part 2 - Player)

There are a few things that can be done to give the Player output a personalized look to match your corporate branding. In my previous post, I talked about changing the logo. In addition to the logo, you can change the graphic in the heading, button colors, border colors and many other items. Prior to making any customizations, I strongly recommend making a copy of the existing Player style. This will give you a backup in case things go wrong. I'd also recommend that you create your own brand. This way, when you install the newest updates from us, your brand will remain intact. Creating your own brand is pretty easy. Make sure you have modify permissions on the publishing styles directory, if you are using a multi-user installation. Under the Publishing/Styles folder, create a new folder with your company name. Copy all the publishing styles from the UPK folder to your newly created folder. Now, when you go through the Publishing wizard, you will have two categories to choose from: the UPK category or your custom category. Now, for updating the Player output. First, the graphic that appears on the right hand side of the Player. If you're using a multi-user installation, check out the player style from your custom brand. Open the player style. Open the img folder. The file named "banner_image.png" represents the graphic that appears on the right hand side of the player. It is currently sized at 425 x 54. Try to keep your graphic about the same size. Rename your graphic file to be "banner_image.png", and drag it into the img folder. Save the package. Check in the package if you are in a multi-user installation. You've just updated the banner heading! Next, let's work on updating some of the other colors in the player. All the customizable areas are located in the skin.css file which is in the root of the Player style. Many of our customers update the colors to match their own theme. You don't have to be a programmer to make these changes, honest. :) To change the colors in the player: Make a copy of the original skin.css file. (This is to make sure you have a working version to revert to, in case something goes wrong.) Open the skin.css file from the Player package. You can edit it using Notepad. Make the desired changes. Save the file. Save the package. Publish to view your new changes. When you open the skin.css, you will see groupings like this: .headerDivbar { height: 21px; background-color: #CDE2FD; } Change the value of the background-color to the color of your choice. Note that you cannot use "red" as a color, but rather you should enter the hexadecimal color code. If you don't know the color code, search the web for "hexadecimal colors" and you'll find many sites to provide the information. Here are a few of the variables that you can update. Heading: .headerDivbar -this changes the color of the banner that appears under the graphic Button colors: .navCellOn - changes the color of the mode buttons when your mouse is hovering on them. .navCellOff - changes the color of the mode buttons when the mouse is not over them Lines: .thorizontal - this is the color of the horizontal lines surrounding the outline .tvertical - this is the color of the vertical lines on the left and right margin in the outline. .tsep - this is the color of the line that separates the outline from the content area Search frame: .tocSearchColor - this is the color of the search area .tocFrameText - this is the background color of the TOC tree. Hint: If you want to try out the changes prior to updating the style, you can update the skin.css in some content you've already published for the player (it's located in the css folder of the player package). This way, you can immediately see the changes without going through publishing. Once you're happy with the changes, update the skin.css in player style. Want to customize more? Refer to the "Customizing the Player" section of the Content Development manual for more details on all the options in the skin.css that can be changed, and pictures of what each variable controls. High Availability Configuration using Heartbeat and Pacemaker

I have the following setup: I have configured high availability between two load balancers (HAProxy) so that if HAProxy1 get down, the floating IP gets transferred to the other load balancer HAProxy2, hence all the clients will get the response from HAProxy2, which at the back-end is doing LB among the sme two webserver. This is for removing the single point of failure in case of only one HAProxy. Whenever I stops the hearbeat in HAProxy1, the floating IP goes to HAProxy2. But I want to configure such that whenever the process haproxy goes down, the floating IP should get assigned to HAProxy2. Can someone tell me how to implement it ?

autostart app with tag in awm

Current SPARC Architectures

Different generations of SPARC processors implement different architectures. The architecture that the compiler targets is controlled implicitly by the -xtarget flag and explicitly by the -arch flag. If an application targets a recent architecture, then the compiler gets to play with all the instructions that the new architecture provides. The downside is that the application won't work on older processors that don't have the new instructions. So for developer's there is a trade-off between performance and portability. The way we have solved this in the compiler is to assume a "generic" architecture, and we've made this the default behaviour of the compiler. The only flag that doesn't make this assumption is -fast which tells the compiler to assume that the build machine is also the deployment machine - so the compiler can use all the instructions that the build machine provides. The -xtarget=generic flag tells the compiler explicitly to use this generic model. We work hard on making generic code work well across all processors. So in most cases this is a very good choice. It is also of interest to know what processors support the various architectures. The following Venn diagram attempts to show this: A textual description is as follows: The T1 and T2 processors, in addition to most other SPARC processors that were shipped in the last 10+ years supported V9b, or sparcvis2. The SPARC64 processors from Fujitsu, used in the M-series machines, added support for the floating point multiply accumulate instruction in the sparcfmaf architecture. Support for this instruction also appeared in the T3 - this is called sparcvis3 Later SPARC64 processors added the integer multiply accumulate instruction, this architecture is sparcima. Finally the T4 includes support for both the integer and floating point multiply accumulate instructions in the sparc4 architecture. So the conclusion should be: Floating point multiply accumulate is supported in both the T-series and M-series machines, so it should be a relatively safe bet to start using it. The T4 is a very good machine to deploy to because it supports all the current instruction sets.

Modifying a gedit syntax highlighting file

I am trying to change a highlighting file from Gedit. I have modified the file /usr/share/gtksourceview-3.0/language-specs/fortran.lang because I want to change the cases in which the editor takes a statement as a comment. The problem I have is that when I choose the new highlighting scheme nothing highlights, it just remains as plain text. The file fortran.lang was opened with su permissions and I just copy-pasted everything into a new Gedit file and later saved it as fortran_enhanced.lang in the same folder. I have to say that I have never done a thing like this before and I don't even understand most of the language file, so I am open to every criticism, as I have been guided purely by intuition. Raspberry Pi and Java SE: A Platform for the Masses

One of the more exciting developments in the embedded systems world has been the announcement and availability of the Raspberry Pi, a very capable computer that is no bigger than a credit card. At $35 US, initial demand for the device was so significant, that very long back orders quickly ensued. After months of patiently waiting, mine finally arrived. Those initial growing pains appear to have been fixed, so availability now should be much more reasonable. At a very high level, here are some of the important specs: Broadcom BCM2835 System on a chip (SoC) ARM1176JZFS, with floating point, running at 700MHz Videocore 4 GPU capable of BluRay quality playback 256Mb RAM 2 USB ports and Ethernet Boots from SD card Linux distributions (e.g. Debian) available So what's taking place taking place with respect to the Java platform and Raspberry Pi? A Java SE Embedded binary suitable for the Raspberry Pi is available for download (Arm v6/7) here. Note, this is based on the armel architecture, a variety of Arm designed to support floating point through a compatibility library that operates on more platforms, but can hamper performance. In order to use this Java SE binary, select the available Debian distribution for your Raspberry Pi. The more recent Raspbian distribution is based on the armhf (hard float) architecture, which provides for more efficient hardware-based floating point operations. However armhf is not binary compatible with armel. As of the writing of this blog, Java SE Embedded binaries are not yet publicly available for the armhf-based Raspbian distro, but as mentioned in Henrik Stahl's blog, an armhf release is in the works. As demonstrated at the just-completed JavaOne 2012 San Francisco event, the graphics processing unit inside the Raspberry Pi is very capable indeed, and makes for an excellent candidate for JavaFX. As such, plans also call for a Pi-optimized version of JavaFX in a future release too. A thriving community around the Raspberry Pi has developed at light speed, and as evidenced by the packed attendance at Pi-specific sessions at Java One 2012, the interest in Java for this platform is following suit. Google search results are invalid

I'm writing a program that lets a user perform a Google search. When the result comes back, all of the links in the search results are links not to other sites but to Google, and if the user clicks on one, the page is fetched not from the other site but from Google. Can anyone explain how to fix this problem? root issues in softwarecenter, synaptic and update manager

How do I theme the Nautilus background image?

I want to change the background image in the Nautilus file browser. My idea is to put my own style in the background. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and Nautilus is version 3. I know that I have to change the nautilus.css file of the theme, but the problem is that there is not a parameter for the background. I just want to apply an image but I can't find the file or parameter to change it. The CSS file is in the directory /home/UserName/.theme/MyTheme/gtk-3.0/apps. I've changed the nautilus.css file. I wrote two new lines using CSS style but I don't know where the correct place is to put it. The lines are: background-image: url("carbon.jpg"); background-repeat: repeat; Obviously I put the image called carbon.jpg in the same directory of nautilus.css, but this change doesn't work because I need to know whichs class displays the Nautilus file browsing frame. If I find this class I guess that this code will work. If someone knows how to do it, please tell me because I really want to make this change.

I am currently working on developing a personal website. It's not my first time doing this, but this is my first major foray into implementing SSI. I've run myself into a wall, however, with an if-else directive that uses one of the CGI environment variables as part of its comparison. Even after some limited attempts at debugging, all of the output and documentation that I have means that the comparisons being made should fail outright. This is not the case, and the wrong evaluation is being made by the if-else directive. I am working on a web system currently and plans to heavily use javascript with ajax to make the user interface more friendlier, not fancy as such. The javascript will be used for client side form validation, data loading from server and creating proper content with the result, also to for floating windows during add/edit or external references. Here is a scenerio that could clearify my question. A user wants to update card but instead of jumping to another page to verify the available colors,size and prizes of product, those information are shown in a floating window and changes in the floating window can affect the underlying one. My question is : 1. What are some of the approaches to encounter this situation? 2. Are there any helpful tips, tricks and links on this subject? I am comfortable with js,php and zend. I would appreciate any advice,tip and tricks, problem solving approach to handle a situation like this! Thanks in advance. Hope this make sense.

I am attempting to add highslide-with-html.js from http://highslide.com/ to my masterpage. I am receiving a 403 forbidden error when I use the provided masterpage. I have placed it in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033. Test javascript files such as pirate.js which consists solely of alert("Arr!"); have loaded from the same directory. I have provided the code for the masterpage. Dojox grid having problem with Contentpane

the grid appears properly on template's first loading. But when you click the paging button to load flooders.php thru list_result1() only the paging buttons will appear. Javascript/Jquery Super Scrollorama Navigation Issues

On a Wordpress site I am currently working on, my client wanted the different sections of the front page to slide up from the bottom and cover up the previous section, like a wipe or slide transition. Using super scrollorama found here: http://johnpolacek.github.com/superscrollorama/, I managed to achieve the desired result. Next, I needed to create a navigation menu on the front page only. I did so, and set anchors at various different points on the pages. I also used the scrollTo library for scolling animations when I click the nav menu links. However, there are a number of problems I have encountered: When at the top and I click "showcase", it brings me down to the showcase section, but the products section (the div right after it) is overlapping it. Other divs seems to have the same problem of the following divs overlapping the current one I can only navigate forwards. When I try to go backwards, it won't (except for "Home") I thought it might have something to do with the CSS "top" property of the divs, so I tried resetting them every time the click function kicked in, but it didn't work. So I removed it for the time being. Currently set the javascript to prevent the default action of scrolling to the anchors and instead setting it to scroll to the actual divs themselves. However, I'm still having the same issues. jquery Ui Dialog box opacity / alpha filter broken in IE7/8 when using jquery.effects.fade.js

Greetings! Goal: transparant ui dialog box in IE7/8 with fade in/out effect upon open/close. Opacity was set in css and works just fine (safari, chrome, ff ie7/8) using native effects blind / explode etc. But when using efects.fade.js on the dialog box the opacity does not work on ie7/8 We want fade in/out because that looks awesome. Anyway here is my code. Any help much appreciated. Maybe something to do with filter or cleartype. How to load static files from view HTML in web2py?

Given a view with layout, how can I load static files (CSS and JS, essentially) into the <head> from the view file? layout.html <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="{{=T.accepted_language or 'en'}}"> <head> <title>{{=response.title or request.application}}</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />  {{include 'web2py_ajax.html'}} </head> <body> {{include}} </body> </html> myview.html {{extend 'layout.html'}} {{response.files.append(URL(r=request,c='static',f='myview.css'))}} <h1>Some header</h1> <div> some content </div> In the above example, the "myview.css" file is either ignored by web2py or stripped out by the browser. So what is the best way to load page-specific files like this CSS file? I'd rather not stuff all my static files into my layout.
