  • Watching setTimeout loops so that only one is running at a time.

    - by DA
I'm creating a content rotator in jQuery. 5 items total. Item 1 fades in, pauses 10 seconds, fades out, then item 2 fades in. Repeat. Simple enough. Using setTimeout I can call a set of functions that create a loop and will repeat the process indefinitely. I now want to add the ability to interrupt this rotator at any time by clicking on a navigation element to jump directly to one of the content items. I originally started going down the path of pinging a variable constantly (say every half second) that would check to see if a navigation element was clicked and, if so, abandon the loop, then restart the loop based on the item that was clicked. The challenge I ran into was how to actually ping a variable via a timer. The solution is to dive into JavaScript closures...which are a little over my head but definitely something I need to delve into more. However, in the process of that, I came up with an alternative option that actually seems to be better performance-wise (theoretically, at least). I have a sample running here: http://jsbin.com/uxupi/14 (It's using console.log so have fireBug running) Sample script: $(document).ready(function(){ var loopCount = 0; $('p#hello').click(function(){ loopCount++; doThatThing(loopCount); }) function doThatOtherThing(currentLoopCount) { console.log('doThatOtherThing-'+currentLoopCount); if(currentLoopCount==loopCount){ setTimeout(function(){doThatThing(currentLoopCount)},5000) } } function doThatThing(currentLoopCount) { console.log('doThatThing-'+currentLoopCount); if(currentLoopCount==loopCount){ setTimeout(function(){doThatOtherThing(currentLoopCount)},5000); } } }) The logic being that every click of the trigger element will kick off the loop passing into itself a variable equal to the current value of the global variable. That variable gets passed back and forth between the functions in the loop. Each click of the trigger also increments the global variable so that subsequent calls of the loop have a unique local variable. Then, within the loop, before the next step of each loop is called, it checks to see if the variable it has still matches the global variable. If not, it knows that a new loop has already been activated so it just ends the existing loop. Thoughts on this? Valid solution? Better options? Caveats? Dangers? UPDATE: I'm using John's suggestion below via the clearTimeout option. However, I can't quite get it to work. The logic is as such: var slideNumber = 0; var timeout = null; function startLoop(slideNumber) { ...do stuff here to set up the slide based on slideNumber... slideFadeIn() } function continueCheck(){ if (timeout != null) { // cancel the scheduled task. clearTimeout(timeout); timeout = null; return false; }else{ return true; } }; function slideFadeIn() { if (continueCheck){ // a new loop hasn't been called yet so proceed... // fade in the LI $currentListItem.fadeIn(fade, function() { if(multipleFeatures){ timeout = setTimeout(slideFadeOut,display); } }); }; function slideFadeOut() { if (continueLoop){ // a new loop hasn't been called yet so proceed... slideNumber=slideNumber+1; if(slideNumber==features.length) { slideNumber = 0; }; timeout = setTimeout(function(){startLoop(slideNumber)},100); }; startLoop(slideNumber); The above kicks of the looping. I then have navigation items that, when clicked, I want the above loop to stop, then restart with a new beginning slide: $(myNav).click(function(){ clearTimeout(timeout); timeout = null; startLoop(thisItem); }) If I comment out 'startLoop...' from the click event, it, indeed, stops the initial loop. However, if I leave that last line in, it doesn't actually stop the initial loop. Why? What happens is that both loops seem to run in parallel for a period. So, when I click my navigation, clearTimeout is called, which clears it.

  • Generic function to handle DataType Conversion

    - by Tommo1977
I have the following function in C#, that I want to pass a MySQL DataReader value/object. If the value of the object passed is a DBNull I need to handle it and return a Null value of that data type e.g null int. Otherwise I want to convert the returned value like Convert.ToInt32(value) or similar. public static T ConvertFromDB<T>(object value) { return value == DBNull.Value ? default(T) : (T)value; } Can anyone offer any help on this ?

  • Problem using pantheios file stock back end

    - by Tanuj
I am trying to use pantheios file stock back end to log from my dll in c++. The file gets created but nothing gets written to the file. Here is a snippet of my code if (pantheios::pantheios_init() < 0) { MessageBox(NULL, "Init Failed", "fvm", MB_OK); }else { MessageBox(NULL, "Init Passed", "fvm", MB_OK); pantheios::log_INFORMATIONAL("Logger enabled!"); } DWORD pid = GetCurrentProcessId(); sprintf_s(moduleName, sizeof(moduleName), "C:\\%d.log", pid); pantheios_be_file_setFilePath(moduleName, PANTHEIOS_BE_FILE_F_TRUNCATE,PANTHEIOS_BE_FILE_F_TRUNCATE, PANTHEIOS_BEID_LOCAL); pantheios::log(pantheios::debug, "Entering main"); I get the Init Passed message box but no log statements are dumped in the file.

  • Same data being returned by linq for 2 different executions of a stored procedure?

    - by Paul
Hello I have a stored procedure that I am calling through Entity Framework. The stored procedure has 2 date parameters. I supply different argument in the 2 times I call the stored procedure. I have verified using SQL Profiler that the stored procedure is being called correctly and returning the correct results. When I call my method the second time with different arguments, even though the stored procedure is bringing back the correct results, the table created contains the same data as the first time I called it. dtStart = 01/08/2009 dtEnd = 31/08/2009 public List<dataRecord> GetData(DateTime dtStart, DateTime dtEnd) { var tbl = from t in db.SP(dtStart, dtEnd) select t; return tbl.ToList(); } GetData((new DateTime(2009, 8, 1), new DateTime(2009, 8, 31)) // tbl.field1 value = 45450 - CORRECT GetData(new DateTime(2009, 7, 1), new DateTime(2009, 7, 31)) // tbl.field1 value = 45450 - WRONG 27456 expected Is this a case of Entity Framework being clever and caching? I can't see why it would cache this though as it has executed the stored procedure twice. Do I have to do something to close tbl? using Visual Studio 2008 + Entity Framework. I also get the message "query cannot be enumerated more than once" a few times every now and then, am not sure if that is relevant? • mysql GROUP_CONCAT

    - by user301766
    I want to list all users with their corropsonding user class. Here are simplified versions of my tables CREATE TABLE users ( user_id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, user_class VARCHAR(100), PRIMARY KEY (user_id) ); INSERT INTO users VALUES (1, '1'), (2, '2'), (3, '1,2'); CREATE TABLE classes ( class_id INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, class_name VARCHAR(100), PRIMARY KEY (class_id) ); INSERT INTO classes VALUES (1, 'Class 1'), (2, 'Class 2'); And this is the query statement I am trying to use but is only returning the first matching user class and not a concatenated list as hoped. SELECT user_id, GROUP_CONCAT(DISTINCT class_name SEPARATOR ",") AS class_name FROM users, classes WHERE user_class IN (class_id) GROUP BY user_id; Actual Output +---------+------------+ | user_id | class_name | +---------+------------+ | 1 | Class 1 | | 2 | Class 2 | | 3 | Class 1 | +---------+------------+ Wanted Output +---------+---------------------+ | user_id | class_name | +---------+---------------------+ | 1 | Class 1 | | 2 | Class 2 | | 3 | Class 1, Class 2 | +---------+---------------------+ Thanks in advance

  • What's the purpose of GC.SuppressFinalize(this) in Dispose() method?

    - by mr.b
I have code that looks like this: /// <summary> /// Dispose of the instance /// </summary> public void Dispose() { if (_instance != null) { _instance = null; // Call GC.SupressFinalize to take this object off the finalization // queue and prevent finalization code for this object from // executing a second time. GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } } Although there is a comment that explains purpose of that GC-related call, I still don't understand why it's there. Isn't object destined for garbage collection once all instances cease from existence (like, when used in using() block)? What's the use case scenario where this would play important role? Thanks!

  • How to encrypt and save a binary stream after serialization and read it back?

    - by Anindya Chatterjee
    I am having some problems in using CryptoStream when I want to encrypt a binary stream after binary serialization and save it to a file. I am getting the following exception System.ArgumentException : Stream was not readable. Can anybody please show me how to encrypt a binary stream and save it to a file and deserialize it back correctly? The code is as follows: class Program { public static void Main(string[] args) { var b = new B {Name = "BB"}; WriteFile<B>(@"C:\test.bin", b, true); var bb = ReadFile<B>(@"C:\test.bin", true); Console.WriteLine(b.Name == bb.Name); Console.ReadLine(); } public static T ReadFile<T>(string file, bool decrypt) { T bObj = default(T); var _binaryFormatter = new BinaryFormatter(); Stream buffer = null; using (var stream = new FileStream(file, FileMode.OpenOrCreate)) { if(decrypt) { const string strEncrypt = "*#4$%^.++q~!cfr0(_!#$@$!&#&#*&@(7cy9rn8r265&$@&*E^184t44tq2cr9o3r6329"; byte[] dv = {0x12, 0x34, 0x56, 0x78, 0x90, 0xAB, 0xCD, 0xEF}; CryptoStream cs; DESCryptoServiceProvider des = null; var byKey = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(strEncrypt.Substring(0, 8)); using (des = new DESCryptoServiceProvider()) { cs = new CryptoStream(stream, des.CreateEncryptor(byKey, dv), CryptoStreamMode.Read); } buffer = cs; } else buffer = stream; try { bObj = (T) _binaryFormatter.Deserialize(buffer); } catch(SerializationException ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } return bObj; } public static void WriteFile<T>(string file, T bObj, bool encrypt) { var _binaryFormatter = new BinaryFormatter(); Stream buffer; using (var stream = new FileStream(file, FileMode.Create)) { try { if(encrypt) { const string strEncrypt = "*#4$%^.++q~!cfr0(_!#$@$!&#&#*&@(7cy9rn8r265&$@&*E^184t44tq2cr9o3r6329"; byte[] dv = {0x12, 0x34, 0x56, 0x78, 0x90, 0xAB, 0xCD, 0xEF}; CryptoStream cs; DESCryptoServiceProvider des = null; var byKey = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(strEncrypt.Substring(0, 8)); using (des = new DESCryptoServiceProvider()) { cs = new CryptoStream(stream, des.CreateEncryptor(byKey, dv), CryptoStreamMode.Write); buffer = cs; } } else buffer = stream; _binaryFormatter.Serialize(buffer, bObj); buffer.Flush(); } catch(SerializationException ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } } } [Serializable] public class B { public string Name {get; set;} } It throws the serialization exception as follows The input stream is not a valid binary format.   • How can I get to the value of my WPF UserControl DependencyProperty from UI Automation Framework?

    - by Surfbutler
Hi, I'm having trouble getting access to my WPF UserControl DependencyProperty values through the UI Automation Framework. I've used James McCaffreys article in MSDN as a starting point (Automating IO Tests in WPF Applications, MSDN March 2009), but I can only see properties etc in standard controls such as buttons. I'm assuming there's some Automation interface I have to implement on my UserControl, but what and how? I can already see my control fine e.g. in UISpy, but I can't see the dependency properties within it. Here's what my usercontrol looks like currently in UISpy: AutomationElement General Accessibility AccessKey: "" AcceleratorKey: "" IsKeyboardFocusable: "False" LabeledBy: "(null)" HelpText: "Switches 48v Phantom Power On/Off (for Mic inputs only)." State IsEnabled: "True" HasKeyboardFocus: "False" Identification ClassName: "" ControlType: "ControlType.Custom" Culture: "(null)" AutomationId: "V48SwL" LocalizedControlType: "custom" Name: "" ProcessId: "5684 (VirtualSix)" RuntimeId: "7 5684 40026340" IsPassword: "False" IsControlElement: "True" IsContentElement: "True" Visibility BoundingRectangle: "(140, 457, 31, 20)" ClickablePoint: "155,467" IsOffscreen: "False" ControlPatterns

  • How do I detect a loop in this linked list?

    - by jjujuma
Say you have a linked list structure in Java. It's made up of Nodes: class Node { Node next; // some user data } and each Node points to the next node, except for the last Node, which has null for next. Say there is a possibility that the list can contain a loop - i.e. the final Node, instead of having a null, has a reference to one of the nodes in the list which came before it. What's the best way of writing boolean hasLoop(Node first) which would return true if the given Node is the first of a list with a loop, and false otherwise? How could you write so that it takes a finite amount of space and a reasonable amount of time?

  • When i close window cookies are destroying in flex

    - by praveen
Hi, I am using external interface to store cookies in client side of application. Like I have created a cookie in html and i am using those methods in flex using External Interface. I am saving a username in cookie when I re use cookie is displaying, I have deployed in server and i ran like http://localhost/[Path]/index.html.in this html I am embedded swf file and I have saved cookie in html JavaScript, now if I open this url cookie is saving if I open a new window what ever the cookies are a raised and it is loading from start. for cookies saving i am using this code in flex:`package Name{ import flash.external.ExternalInterface; /** * The Cookie class provides a simple way to create or access * cookies in the embedding HTML document of the application. * */ public class Cookies { /** * Flag if the class was properly initialized. */ private static var _initialized:Boolean = false; /** * Name of the cookie. */ private var _name:String; /** * Contents of the cookie. */ private var _value:String; /** * Flag indicating if a cookie was just created. • Double pointer const-correctness warnings in C

    - by Michael Koval
You can obviously cast a pointer to non-const data to a a pointer of the same type to const data: int *x = NULL; int const *y = x; Adding additional const qualifiers to match the additional indirection should logically work the same way: int * *x = NULL; int *const *y = x; /* okay */ int const *const *z = y; /* warning */ Compiling this with GCC or Clang with the -Wall flag, however, results in the following warning: test.c:4:23: warning: initializing 'int const *const *' with an expression of type 'int *const *' discards qualifiers in nested pointer types int const *const *z = y; /* warning */ ^ ~ Why does adding an additional const qualifier "discard qualifiers in nested pointer types"?

  • How to open email by x-gm-msgid in Gmail with Javascript

    - by Rui J
I'm writing an extension which surfaces links to gmail messages. As the UI loads right in Gmail, I should be able to click on one of these links and have Gmail load it (without refreshing). I have "x-gm-msgid" available and theoretically, I should just be able to navigate to "https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox/[x-gm-msgid]". I've tried using location.hash = "#inbox/[x-gm-msgid]" I've tried using history.pushState(null, null, "/mail/u/0/#inbox/[x-gm-msgid]") Neither of which works. Gmail just thwarts any attempt to change the URL (unless it is done via user interaction) Any thoughts on how to get around this restriction?

  • ADO.NET: Faster way to check if the database server is accessible?

    - by lotana
At the moment I am using this code to check if the database is accessible: public bool IsDatabaseOnline(string con) { bool isConnected = false; SQLConnection connect = null; try { connect = new SQLConnection(con); connect.Open(); isConnected = true; } catch (Exception e) { isConnected = false; } finally { if (connect != null) connect.Close(); } return isConnected; } While this code works fine, there is a disadvantage. If the server is not online it spends about 4 full seconds trying to open the connection before deciding that it is not available. Is there a way to test the connection without trying to actually opening it and waiting for the timeout? Something like a database-equivalent of ping?

  • ssh script gives "key_read" error

    - by lugte098
I'm using a script that connects to a cluster through ssh and sends some commands, then quits the connection. This script basically connects once using ssh, then executes a script in this session. This script loops through a list of commands a few times and after it is finished, the connection is terminated. So this script works fine, except for the fact that after a few loops it gives me the following error at loop 22. And then again at loop 32. The loops do exactly the same thing, so i cannot grasp the problem the script is facing. I have two queries like: SELECT PC_COMP_CODE, PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ACCOUNT, COUNT(PC_CHEQUE_NO) CHQS, SUM(CONVERT(FLOAT, PC_AMOUNT)) CHQ_AMT FROM GLAS_PDC_CHEQUES WHERE PC_COMP_CODE = '1' AND PC_DISCD IS NULL GROUP BY PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ,PC_COMP_CODE ORDER BY PC_SL_ACNO -------------------------------------------------- SELECT COAD_PTY_FULL_NAME,PC_COMP_CODE, PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO, PC_DEPT_NO, PC_DOC_TYPE, PC_CHEQUE_NO, PC_BANK_AC_NO FROM GLAS_PTY_ADDRESS,GLAS_SBLGR_MASTERS,GLAS_PDC_CHEQUES WHERE COAD_COMP_CODE = '1' AND SLMA_COMP_CODE = COAD_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_ADDR_ID = COAD_ADDR_ID AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_CODE = PC_SL_LDGR_CODE AND PC_COMP_CODE=SLMA_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_ACNO = PC_SL_ACNO AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_YEAR = DBO.GLAS_VALIDATIONS_GET_OPEN_YEAR(PC_COMP_CODE) If I execute first query alone I get 5 records... If I join the above two query like: SELECT PC_COMP_CODE, PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ACCOUNT, COUNT(PC_CHEQUE_NO) CHQS, SUM(CONVERT(FLOAT, PC_AMOUNT)) CHQ_AMT, COAD_PTY_FULL_NAME FROM GLAS_PDC_CHEQUES LEFT OUTER JOIN GLAS_SBLGR_MASTERS ON( SLMA_COMP_CODE=PC_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_CODE = PC_SL_LDGR_CODE AND SLMA_ACNO = PC_SL_ACNO ) LEFT OUTER JOIN GLAS_PTY_ADDRESS ON( SLMA_COMP_CODE = COAD_COMP_CODE AND SLMA_ADDR_ID = COAD_ADDR_ID) WHERE PC_COMP_CODE = '1' AND PC_DISCD IS NULL AND SLMA_LDGRCTL_YEAR = DBO.GLAS_VALIDATIONS_GET_OPEN_YEAR(PC_COMP_CODE) GROUP BY PC_SL_LDGR_CODE, PC_SL_ACNO ,PC_COMP_CODE,COAD_PTY_FULL_NAME ORDER BY PC_SL_ACNO then I just get 2 records.... I need that 5 records to display after join..... How can I do it?

  • NSBitmapImageRep data Format as application icon image??

    - by Joe
i have a char* array of data that was in RGBA and then moved to ARGB Bottom line is the set application image looks totally messed up and i cant put my finger on why? //create a bitmap representation of the image data. //The data is expected to be unsigned char** NSBitmapImageRep *bitmap = [[NSBitmapImageRep alloc] initWithBitmapDataPlanes : (unsigned char**) &dest pixelsWide:width pixelsHigh:height bitsPerSample:8 samplesPerPixel:4 hasAlpha:YES isPlanar:NO colorSpaceName:NSDeviceRGBColorSpace bitmapFormat:NSAlphaFirstBitmapFormat bytesPerRow: 0 bitsPerPixel:0 ]; NSImage *image = [[NSImage alloc] initWithSize:NSMakeSize(width, height)]; [image addRepresentation:bitmap]; if( image == NULL) { printf("image is null\n"); fflush(stdout); } [NSApp setApplicationIconImage :image]; What in these values is off? the image looks very multicolored and pixelated, with transparent parts/lines as well.

  • AJAX Issue, Works in all browsers except IE

    - by Nik
    Alright, this code works in Chrome and FF, but not IE (which is to be expected). Does anyone see anything wrong with this code that would render it useless in IE? var waittime=400; chatmsg = document.getElementById("chatmsg"); room = document.getElementById("roomid").value; sessid = document.getElementById("sessid").value; chatmsg.focus() document.getElementById("chatwindow").innerHTML = "loading..."; document.getElementById("userwindow").innerHTML = "Loading User List..."; var xmlhttp = false; var xmlhttp2 = false; var xmlhttp3 = false; function ajax_read() { if(window.XMLHttpRequest){ xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); if(xmlhttp.overrideMimeType){ xmlhttp.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if(window.ActiveXObject){ try{ xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) { try{ xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e){ } } } if(!xmlhttp) { alert('Giving up :( Cannot create an XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { document.getElementById("chatwindow").innerHTML = xmlhttp.responseText; setTimeout("ajax_read()", waittime); } } xmlhttp.open('GET','methods.php?method=r&room=' + room +'',true); xmlhttp.send(null); } function user_read() { if(window.XMLHttpRequest){ xmlhttp3=new XMLHttpRequest(); if(xmlhttp3.overrideMimeType){ xmlhttp3.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if(window.ActiveXObject){ try{ xmlhttp3=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) { try{ xmlhttp3=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e){ } } } if(!xmlhttp3) { alert('Giving up :( Cannot create an XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } xmlhttp3.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlhttp3.readyState==4) { document.getElementById("userwindow").innerHTML = xmlhttp3.responseText; setTimeout("user_read()", 10000); } } xmlhttp3.open('GET','methods.php?method=u&room=' + room +'',true); xmlhttp3.send(null); } function ajax_write(url){ if(window.XMLHttpRequest){ xmlhttp2=new XMLHttpRequest(); if(xmlhttp2.overrideMimeType){ xmlhttp2.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); } } else if(window.ActiveXObject){ try{ xmlhttp2=new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e) { try{ xmlhttp2=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(e){ } } } if(!xmlhttp2) { alert('Giving up :( Cannot create an XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } xmlhttp2.open('GET',url,true); xmlhttp2.send(null); } function submit_msg(){ nick = document.getElementById("chatnick").value; msg = document.getElementById("chatmsg").value; document.getElementById("chatmsg").value = ""; ajax_write("methods.php?method=w&m=" + msg + "&n=" + nick + "&room=" + room + "&sessid=" + sessid + ""); } function keyup(arg1) { if (arg1 == 13) submit_msg(); } var intUpdate = setTimeout("ajax_read()", waittime); var intUpdate = setTimeout("user_read()", 0);

  • How to commit inside a CURSOR Loop?

    - by user320587
Hi, I am trying to see if its possible to perform Update within a cursor loop and this updated data gets reflected during the second iteration in the loop. DECLARE cur CURSOR FOR SELECT [Product], [Customer], [Date], [Event] FROM MyTable WHERE [Event] IS NULL OPEN cur FETCH NEXT INTO @Product, @Customer, @Date, @Event WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0 BEGIN SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE [Event] = 'No Event' AND [Date] < @DATE -- Now I update my Event value to 'No Event' for records whose date is less than @Date UPDATE MyTable SET [Event] = 'No Event' WHERE [Product] = @Product AND [Customer] = @Customer AND [Date] < @DATE FETCH NEXT INTO @Product, @Customer, @Date, @Event END CLOSE cur DEALLOCATE cur Assume when the sql executes the Event column is NULL for all records In the above sql, I am doing a select inside the cursor loop to query MyTable where Event value is 'No Event' but the query returns no value even though I am doing an update in the next line. So, I am thinking if it is even possible to update a table and the updated data get reflected in the next iteration of the cursor loop. Thanks for any help, Javid

  • how to run line by line in text file - on windows mobile ?

    - by Gold
hi in WinForm on PC i use to run like this: FileStream FS = null; StreamWriter SW = null; FS = new FileStream(@"\Items.txt", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite, FileShare.ReadWrite); SW = new StreamWriter(FS, Encoding.Default); while (SW.Peek() != -1) { TEMP = (SW.ReadLine()); } but when i try this on Windows-mobile i get error: Error 1 'System.IO.StreamWriter' does not contain a definition for 'Peek' and no extension method 'Peek' accepting a first argument of type 'System.IO.StreamWriter' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Error 2 'System.IO.StreamWriter' does not contain a definition for 'ReadLine' and no extension method 'ReadLine' accepting a first argument of type 'System.IO.StreamWriter' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) how to do it ? thanks

  • In WebKitGtk+, how can I access parameters in an event listener?

    - by Matthew
Here is an example in javascript of what I want to do: function handleDragStart(e) { e.dataTransfer.effectAllowed = 'move'; e.dataTransfer.setData('text/plain', 'some data'); } var dragSource = document.querySelector('#dragSource'); dragSource.addEventListener('dragstart', handleDragStart, false, null); But I am having trouble translating this to a GLib-based system. Here is an example in Vala: void on_dragstart(EventTarget event_target) { // How can I access the equivalent of e.dataTransfer? } WebKit.WebView web_view = ... WebKit.DOM.Document document = web_view.get_dom_document(); WebKit.DOM.Element drag_source = document.query_selector('#dragSource'); drag_source.add_event_listener("dragstart", (Callback) on_dragstart, false, null); While I am using Vala, an answer in any language interacting with WebKitGtk+ directly would be helpful.

  • How do I find the top N batters per year?

    - by Drew Stephens
I'm playing around with the Lahman Baseball Database in a MySQL instance. I want to find the players who topped home runs (HR) for each year. The Batting table has the following (relevant parts) of its schema: +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ | playerID | varchar(9) | NO | PRI | | | | yearID | smallint(4) unsigned | NO | PRI | 0 | | | HR | smallint(3) unsigned | YES | | NULL | | +-----------+----------------------+------+-----+---------+-------+ For each year, every player has an entry (between hundreds and 12k per year, going back to 1871). Getting the top N hitters for a single year is easy: SELECT playerID,yearID,HR FROM Batting WHERE yearID=2009 ORDER BY HR DESC LIMIT 3; +-----------+--------+------+ | playerID | yearID | HR | +-----------+--------+------+ | pujolal01 | 2009 | 47 | | fieldpr01 | 2009 | 46 | | howarry01 | 2009 | 45 | +-----------+--------+------+ But I'm interested in finding the top 3 from every year. I've found solutions like this, describing how to select the top from a category and I've tried to apply it to my problem, only to end up with a query that never returns: SELECT b.yearID, b.playerID, b.HR FROM Batting AS b LEFT JOIN Batting b2 ON (b.yearID=b2.yearID AND b.HR <= b2.HR) GROUP BY b.yearID HAVING COUNT(*) <= 3; Where have I gone wrong?
