• GSL interpolation error, values must be x values must be monotonically increasing

  Hi my problem is that my data set is monotonically increasing but towards the end the of the data it looks like it does below ,where some of the x[i-1] = x[i] as shown below. This causes an error to be raised in GSL because it thinks that the values are not monotonically increasing. Is there a solution, fix or work around for this problem? the values are already double precision ,this particular data set starts at 9.86553e-06 and ends at .999999 would the only solution be to offset every value in a for loop? 0.999981 0.999981 0.999981 0.999982 0.999982 0.999983 0.999983 0.999983 0.999984 0.999984 0.999985 0.999985 0.999985

• How do I show the print with AJAX/jQuery?

  So I'm trying to understand this whole AJAX/jQuery thing.   Hello, while doing some homework in my very strange C++ book, which I've been told before to throw away, had a very peculiar code segment. I know homework stuff always throws in extra "mystery" to try to confuse you like indenting 2 lines after a single-statement for-loop. But this one I'm confused on because it seems to serve some real-purpose. basically it is like this: int counter=10; ... if(pow(floor(sqrt(counter+0.0)),2) == counter) ... I'm interested in this part especially: sqrt(counter+0.0) Is there some purpose to the +0.0? Is this the poormans way of doing a static cast to a double? Does this avoid some compiler warning on some compiler I do not use? The entire program printed the exact same thing and compiled without warnings on g++ whenever I left out the +0.0 part. Maybe I'm not using a weird enough compiler?

• Suggestions for performance improvement surrounding sending email notifications?

  It takes around a couple of seconds for my app to execute the code to send an email right now on a test server with nothing much else running. Not sure if this is typical/expected. I'm also using the php framework Kohana's email helper and not php's mail directly out of convenience if that matters. Is it always just better to schedule a cron job to send emails every 5 min or so? Or should I be able to send emails immediately and I'm just not doing something right? What the script does is insert a row into the db and notifies the relevant group that the row was created. The groups are usually < 20 people so I just do a loop calling Kohana's email helper each time for each member of the group.

  Hi all, I want to code two JList (categories and items). When I click one category it should select all the items for that category and when I click on one item it should select its categories. So both JList will have a ListSelectionListener listening at each other and changing the selection. Should I fear about some a of "loop" ? • Is there a better way to do SELECT queries in MySQL and sort them in PHP than this way?

  I am just learning PHP/MySQL, one this I am having to do a lot is displaying data that was previously inserted into the database out to the user's browser. So I am doing this: $select = mysql_query('SELECT * FROM pages'); while ($return = mysql_fetch_assoc($select)) { $title = $return['title']; $author = $return['author']; $content = $return['content']; } then I can use these variables through out the page. Now, doing it the above way isn't an issue when I only have 3 columns in a database but what if I am dealing with a huge database with many more columns. I have a nagging feeling that the pros do it in some more efficient way where they maybe loop through the table they are selecting from to find all columns it has and associate them with variables automatically. Is that the case? or is the above how you guys do it too?

  I put 1100 0011 0000 0000 0000 0000 in the 2764 eprom --- this is supposed to test the z80 -- I have a 555 timer running at 500 khz. Can this small program work with the z80 ? I looked at the address pins on a m465 oscilloscope. The address shows highs up to 0100 0000. I think it should only count to 0000 0000 0000 0011. Can the z80 be tested? The Santa Clara Valley also made the lm1871 radio control chip that could not show a high or a low without completing the entire rc loop.

• Is my program taking too much time to execute?

  I wanted to solve a question from project euleur about finding the largest prime number of a big number. I run my code on a virtual machine on Visual studio 2012, and the code seems froze. When I step into the loop, the code works well, but when I execute it, the console is always there. It is as if the program is still running. Could it be that the program takes time to execute? I don't see any problem. Any ideas ? Unrolling the copy and performing the explicit loop over the columns works in both compilers. Note that with allocatable instead of pointer I have no problems. The behavior is the same if the statement is either inside a module or not. I confirm the same behavior on Linux using ifort (IFORT) 12.1.3 20120130.

• Faster way to compare two sets of points in N-dimensional space?

  List1 contains a high number (~7^10) of N-dimensional points (N <=10), List2 contains the same or fewer number of N-dimensional points (N <=10). My task is this: I want to check which point in List2 is closest (euclidean distance) to a point in List1 for every point in List1 and subsequently perform some operation on it. I have been doing it the simple- the nested loop way when I didn't have more than 50 points in List1, but with 7^10 points, this obviously takes up a lot of time. What is the fastest way to do this? Any concepts from Computational Geometry might help?

• Using True and False to select items to print

  I have a workbook that contains rows of information that needs to printed to a seperate worksheet in excel. I am trying to utilize a checkbox to indicate which items need to print and which items need to be skipped. The checkbox is located in column "A" and once checked and the macro ran, I want it to pick up the data in each cell of that particular row, transfer it a seperate worksheet (form), prompt and save the worksheet to pdf, clear the form, and then return to the main worksheet to continue until all rows have been checked. However, right now, my code is only looping through the very first "TRUE" statement and not continuing to the rest. • Calling functions outside paths

  In mongojs, when you do: var birds = db.birds.find(searchTerm, callback); ...how do you pass arguments to the callback? I've tried bind, as in: birds = db.birds.find(searchTerm, app.get('getBirds').bind(res)); ...but to no avail. Just fyi I'm trying to pass the response object of the GET route so that the callback can render using res.send(results). The other option is to set app.set('res': res); and call app.get('res') from the callback - I'm not sure this is a good idea. It works, but it doesn't obey the events loop model too well - I think the request back to the app may be costly? Any help would be gratefully accepted. :)

  Hi, I was just wondering whether in C is it possible to peek in the input buffer or perform similar trickery to know whether a call to fgets would block at a later time. Java allows to do something like that by calling BufferedReader.ready(), this way I can implement console input something like this: while (on && in.ready()) { line = in.readLine(); /* do something with line */ if (!in.ready()) Thread.sleep(100); } this allows an external thread to gracefully shutdown the input loop by setting on to false; I'd like to perform a similar implementation in C without resorting to non portable tricks, I already know I can make a "timed out fgets" under unix by resorting to signals or (better, even though requering to take care of buffering) reimplement it on top of recv/select, but I'd prefer something that would work on windows too. • How to batch retrieve documents with mongoDB?

  Hello everyone, I have an application that queries data from a mongoDB using the mongoDB C# driver something like this: public void main() { foreach (int i in listOfKey) { list.add(getObjectfromDB(i); } } public myObject getObjFromDb(int primaryKey) { document query = new document(); query["primKey"] = primaryKey; document result= mongo["myDatabase"]["myCollection"].findOne(query); return parseObject(result); } On my local (development) machine to get 100 object this way takes less than a second. However, I recently moved the database to a server on the internet, and this query takes about 30 seconds to execute for the same number of object. Furthermore, looking at the mongoDB log, it seems to open about 8-10 connections to the DB to perform this query. So what I'd like to do is have the query the database for an array of primaryKeys and get them all back at once, then do the parsing in a loop afterwards, using one connection if possible.   I expect any good program should do all their reads and writes in a loop until all data written/read without relying that write will write everything (even with regular files). Am I right? Implemented simple FUSE filesystem which only allows reading and writing with small buffers, very often returning that it is written less bytes that in a buffer (using -o direct_io). Some programs work, some not (notably mountlo). Are them buggy or programs should not expect truncated writes and reads from the regular files? In general, are seekable file descriptors expected to truncate data like sockets and pipes?

  Hi, I've got a collection of object which contains data as follows: FromTime Duration 2010-12-28 24.0000 2010-12-29 24.0000 2010-12-30 24.0000 2010-12-31 22.0000 2011-01-02 1.9167 2011-01-03 24.0000 2011-01-04 24.0000 2011-01-05 24.0000 2011-01-06 24.0000 2011-01-07 22.0000 2011-01-09 1.9167 2011-01-10 24.0000 In the "FromTime" column, there are data "gaps" i.e. 2011-01-01 and 2011-01-08 are "missing". So what I'd like to do is to loop through a range of dates (in this instance 2010-12-28 to 2011-01-10) and "fill in" the "missing" data with a duration of 0. As I've just started with LINQ, I feel that it should be "fairly" easy but I can't quite get it right. I'm reading the book "LINQ in Action" but feel that I'm still quite a way off before I can resolve this particular issue. So any help would be much appreciated. David

• Realtime processing and callbacks with Python and C++

  I need to write code to do some realtime processing that is fairly computationally complex. I would like to create some Python classes to manage all my scripting, and leave the intensive parts of the algorithm coded in C++ so that they can run as fast as possible. I would like to instantiate the objects in Python, and have the C++ algorithms chime back into the script with callbacks in python.   I have a small Resharper Template I have written for Null check of a function Parameter (C#). Check.IsNotNull($param$, "$param$"); - Suggest Parameter - #1 I can now null check the function paramters one by one. But I want to be able to null check all the paramters at once through a template. Is it Possible in Resharper?. Is there someting like a "$Foreach" using which I can loop through parameter variables and write the code to check them one by one ?. (without writing out the foreach into the code) I see that the "Alt + Ins" does something similar. (Taking all Properties on the class and making them as parameters of a constructor). So hoping that there's a way out.

• Working with Form Array's in Coldfusion?

  I have no idea how to handle this in coldfusion 9, I have a form being submitted (POST) with element checkboxes, called items[]. When I do a <cfdump var="#form#" /> no-problem, I get all the items shown with the proper names like items[] eg: struct ITEMS[] 13,14 FIELDNAMES ITEMS[] however doing a <cfdump var="#form.items[]#" /> results in an error. How do I access the CF9 field values? Somehow loop through it? I cannot seem to do anything with the array to get the id's out of it? Thoughts, I'm kindof stumped and coldfusion isn't the easiest language to find examples / references on the net ;) Is there a correct way to deal with this? I need to get the ID's out of there so I can referenc what lines were checked in the form, so I can follow up with an action. Thanks!

• loading Data in VBA from a text file

  I am not very familiar with VBA but need to use it for a new software program I am using (not Microsoft related) I have a text file that has columns of data I would like to read into VBA. Specifically the text file has 4 entries per row. Thus I would like to load in the column vectors (N by 1). The text file is separated by a space between each entry. So for example I want to load in column one and save it as array A, then column two and save as array B, then column three and save as array C, and then column four and save as array D. This code snippet found below from http://www.tek-tips.com/faqs.cfm?fid=482 is something I found that can load in text to an array, but I need to adapt it to be able to save the columns as different arrays as specified above... • A $_GET input paramter that's an Array

  I'm trying to pass 3 parameter to a script, where the 3rd parameter $_GET['value3'] is supposed to be an array $_GET['value1'] $_GET['value2'] $_GET['value3'] //an array of items I'm calling the script like this: (notice my syntax for value3, I'm not sure it's correct) http://localhost/test.php?value1=test1&value2=test2&value3=[the, array, values] I then use a foreach to hopefully loop through the third parameter value3 which is the array //process the first input $_GET['value1'] //process the second input $_GET['value2'] //process the third input $_GET['value3'] which is the array foreach($_GET['value3'] as $arrayitem){ echo $arrayitem; } but I get the error Invalid argument supplied for foreach() I'm not sure if my methodology is correct.
