  • globalize2 with xml/json support

    I'm implementing a distributed application, server with rails and mobile clients in objective c (iPhone). To enable internationalization, I use the rails plugin 'globalize2' by joshmh. However, it turned out that this plugin does not translate attributes when calling to_xml or to_json on an ActiveRecord. Does anyone know of a workaround / patch? Do you have any ideas how to fix this, where to alter globalize2? Using: Rails 2.3.5 globalize2: commit from 2010-01-11

  • PHP DELETE immediately after select

    I have a PHP server script that SELECTs some data from a MySQL database. As soon as I have the result from mysql_query and mysql_fetch_assoc stored in my own local variables, I want to delete the row I just selected. The problem with this approach is that it seems that PHP has done pass-by-reference to my local variables instead of pass-by-value, and my local variables become undefined after the delete command. Is there anyway to get around this?     In a Lift application, I’d like to add a special tag which takes the <tbody> part of the next table and adds odd and even classes (for example) to each <tr> tag. Alternating, of course. While I have found a way to add another attribute to all <tr> tags, there are still a few problems left (see code below). First, it doesn’t work. cycle.next is called too often, so in the end, everything is an odd row. Other problems are that the code doesn’t exclude inner tables (so a nested <tr> would be transformed as well) and that it also affects the <thead> part of the table. Ideas to make this code work?   • PHP - uninitialized array offset

    Hey everyone, I am using PHP to create a form with an array of fields. Basically you can add an unlimited number of 'people' to the form and each person has a first name, last name, and phone number. The form requires that you add a phone number for the first person only. If you leave the phone number field blank on any others, the handler file is supposed to be programmed to use the phone number from the first person. So, my fields are: person[] - a hidden field with a value that is this person's primary key. fname[] - an input field lname[] - an input field phone[] - an input field my form handler looks like this: $people = $_POST['person'] $counter = 0; foreach($people as $person): if(phone[$counter] == '') { // use $phone[0]'s phone number } else { // use $phone[$counter] number } $counter = $counter + 1; endforeach; PHP doesn't like this though, it is throwing me an Notice: Uninitialized string offset error. I debugged it by running the is_array function on people, fname, lname, and phone and it returns true to being an array. I can also manually echo out $phone[2], etc. and get the correct value. I've also ran is_int on the $counter variable and it returned true, so I'm unsure why this isn't working as intended? Any help would be great!

There is no syntactical error, because above code is working fine for small images, but for large images, it gives: Error 321 (net::ERR_INVALID_CHUNKED_ENCODING): Unknown error. in the browser. To be sure, I created two images using imagemagick from same source image - one resized to 10% of original and other 90%. http://mostpopularsports.net/images/misc/ttt10.jpg works http://mostpopularsports.net/images/misc/ttt90.jpg gives Error 301 in the browser. There is a related question with solution posted by OP here Error writing content through Apache. but I cannot understand how to make the fix. Can someome help me with it? I have looked at the headers in Chrome. For the first request, everything is fine. For the second request - the request headers are all garbled. Both images are jpeg (as they are created from imagemagick. But still to be sure I checked): misc/ttt10.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01 misc/ttt90.jpg: JPEG image data, JFIF standard 1.01 Finally, the way I fixed is, remove the Transfer-Encoding: chunked header from the response. [This header was sent by apache only when the data was large enough]. (I had an internal proxy, so did it in the proxy script - otherwise one may need to do it in apache settings). Please note that there are will not be multiple hashes in file. I found a few codes over Internet, but none seem to work.     I would like to create a loop that keeps adding a set fraction, here in my example 1/3, and which later I can check against for matches with integer values. Obviously when php adds 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 the result is 0.9999999, so i thought I could use the occasional round to help me, but this isn't working either. The idea that I had would be that .333 + .333 becomes .666 and that if rounded that would become .667, then + .333 and the result is 1.     If a node belongs to a namespace, it's children by default belong to the same namespace. So there's no need to provide an xmlns attribute on each child, which is good. However. If I create two nodes like this: Dim parent = <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"/> Dim child = <child xmlns="http://my.namespace.org">value</child> parent.Add(child) Console.WriteLine(parent.ToString) The result is this: <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"> <child xmlns="http://my.namespace.org">value</child> </parent> But, if create them in a less convenient way: Dim parent = <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"/> Dim child As New XElement(XName.Get("child", "http://my.namespace.org")) With {.Value = "value"} parent.Add(child) Console.WriteLine(parent.ToString) The result is more desirable: <parent xmlns="http://my.namespace.org"> <child>value</child> </parent> Obviously, I'd prefer to use the first way because it is so much more intuitive and easy to code. There's also another reason to not use method 2 -- sometimes I need to create nodes with XElement.Parse, parsing a string that contains an xmlns attribute, which produces exactly same results as method 1. So the question is -- how do I get the pretty output of method 2, creating nodes as in method 1? The only option I see is to create a method that would clone given XElement, effectively recreating it according to method 2 pattern, but that seems ugly. I'm looking for a more obvious solution I overlooked for some reason.
