  • Refactoring a javascript array rotate function

    - by ideotop
    I wrote a rotate function, but I'm not satisfied with it: var pixels=['011','110','000']; var result=new Array(); result=['000','000','000']; for ( y=0; y<(pixels.length); y++ ){ for ( x=0; x<(pixels.length); x++ ){ var newx=0,newy=0; if ( clock ){ if ( x< r.x && y< r.y ) {newx=x+2;newy=y ;}//top left if ( x==r.x && y< r.y ) {newx=x+1;newy=y+1;}//top if ( x> r.x && y< r.y ) {newx=x ;newy=y+2;}//top right if ( x< r.x && y==r.y ) {newx=x+1;newy=y-1;}//left if ( x==r.x && y==r.y ) {newx=x ;newy=y ;}//center if ( x> r.x && y==r.y ) {newx=x-1;newy=y+1;}//right if ( x< r.x && y> r.y ) {newx=x ;newy=y-2;}//bottom left if ( x==r.x && y> r.y ) {newx=x-1;newy=y-1;}//bottom if ( x> r.x && y> r.y ) {newx=x-2;newy=y ;}//bottom right } else { if ( x< r.x && y< r.y ) {newx=x ;newy=y+2;}//top left if ( x==r.x && y< r.y ) {newx=x-1;newy=y+1;}//top if ( x> r.x && y< r.y ) {newx=x-2;newy=y ;}//top right if ( x< r.x && y==r.y ) {newx=x+1;newy=y+1;}//left if ( x==r.x && y==r.y ) {newx=x ;newy=y ;}//center if ( x> r.x && y==r.y ) {newx=x-1;newy=y-1;}//right if ( x< r.x && y> r.y ) {newx=x+2;newy=y ;}//bottom left if ( x==r.x && y> r.y ) {newx=x+1;newy=y-1;}//bottom if ( x> r.x && y> r.y ) {newx=x ;newy=y-2;}//bottom right } //inject(result,newx,newy,pixels[y][x]) } } does someone now how to write a cleaner code for this rotate (clock and counter-clock) function ?

  • Anything wrong with this function for comparing floats?

    - by Michael Borgwardt
    When my Floating-Point Guide was yesterday published on slashdot, I got a lot of flak for my suggested comparison function, which was indeed inadequate. So I finally did the sensible thing and wrote a test suite to see whether I could get them all to pass. Here is my result so far. And I wonder if this is really as good as one can get with a generic (i.e. not application specific) float comparison function, or whether I still missed some edge cases. import static org.junit.Assert.assertFalse; import static org.junit.Assert.assertTrue; import org.junit.Test; public class NearlyEqualsTest { public static boolean nearlyEqual(float a, float b) { final float epsilon = 0.000001f; final float absA = Math.abs(a); final float absB = Math.abs(b); final float diff = Math.abs(a-b); if (a*b==0) { // a or b or both are zero // relative error is not meaningful here return diff < Float.MIN_VALUE / epsilon; } else { // use relative error return diff / (absA+absB) < epsilon; } } /** Regular large numbers - generally not problematic */ @Test public void big() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(1000000f, 1000001f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(1000001f, 1000000f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(10000f, 10001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(10001f, 10000f)); } /** Negative large numbers */ @Test public void bigNeg() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-1000000f, -1000001f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-1000001f, -1000000f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-10000f, -10001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-10001f, -10000f)); } /** Numbers around 1 */ @Test public void mid() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(1.0000001f, 1.0000002f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(1.0000002f, 1.0000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(1.0002f, 1.0001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(1.0001f, 1.0002f)); } /** Numbers around -1 */ @Test public void midNeg() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-1.000001f, -1.000002f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-1.000002f, -1.000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-1.0001f, -1.0002f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-1.0002f, -1.0001f)); } /** Numbers between 1 and 0 */ @Test public void small() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(0.000000001000001f, 0.000000001000002f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(0.000000001000002f, 0.000000001000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.000000000001002f, 0.000000000001001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.000000000001001f, 0.000000000001002f)); } /** Numbers between -1 and 0 */ @Test public void smallNeg() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-0.000000001000001f, -0.000000001000002f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-0.000000001000002f, -0.000000001000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-0.000000000001002f, -0.000000000001001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-0.000000000001001f, -0.000000000001002f)); } /** Comparisons involving zero */ @Test public void zero() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(0.0f, 0.0f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.00000001f, 0.0f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.0f, 0.00000001f)); } /** Comparisons of numbers on opposite sides of 0 */ @Test public void opposite() { assertFalse(nearlyEqual(1.000000001f, -1.0f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-1.0f, 1.000000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-1.000000001f, 1.0f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(1.0f, -1.000000001f)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(10000f*Float.MIN_VALUE, -10000f*Float.MIN_VALUE)); } /** * The really tricky part - comparisons of numbers * very close to zero. */ @Test public void ulp() { assertTrue(nearlyEqual(Float.MIN_VALUE, -Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-Float.MIN_VALUE, Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(Float.MIN_VALUE, 0)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(0, Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(-Float.MIN_VALUE, 0)); assertTrue(nearlyEqual(0, -Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.000000001f, -Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.000000001f, Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(Float.MIN_VALUE, 0.000000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(-Float.MIN_VALUE, 0.000000001f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(1e20f*Float.MIN_VALUE, 0.0f)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(0.0f, 1e20f*Float.MIN_VALUE)); assertFalse(nearlyEqual(1e20f*Float.MIN_VALUE, -1e20f*Float.MIN_VALUE)); } }

  • Non-Dom Element Event Binding with jQuery

    - by Rick Strahl
    Yesterday I had a short discussion with Dave Reed on Twitter regarding setting up fake ‘events’ on objects that are hookable. jQuery makes it real easy to bind events on DOM elements and with a little bit of extra work (that I didn’t know about) you can also set up binding to non-DOM element ‘event’ bindings. Assume for a second that you have a simple JavaScript object like this: var item = { sku: "wwhelp" , foo: function() { alert('orginal foo function'); } }; and you want to be notified when the foo function is called. You can use jQuery to bind the handler like this: $(item).bind("foo", function () { alert('foo Hook called'); } ); Binding alone won’t actually cause the handler to be triggered so when you call: item.foo(); you only get the ‘original’ message. In order to fire both the original handler and the bound event hook you have to use the .trigger() function: $(item).trigger("foo"); Now if you do the following complete sequence: var item = { sku: "wwhelp" , foo: function() { alert('orginal foo function'); } }; $(item).bind("foo", function () { alert('foo hook called'); } ); $(item).trigger("foo"); You’ll see the ‘hook’ message first followed by the ‘original’ message fired in succession. In other words, using this mechanism you can hook standard object functions and chain events to them in a way similar to the way you can do with DOM elements. The main difference is that the ‘event’ has to be explicitly triggered in order for this to happen rather than just calling the method directly. .trigger() relies on some internal logic that checks for event bindings on the object (attached via an expando property) which .trigger() searches for in its bound event list. Once the ‘event’ is found it’s called prior to execution of the original function. This is pretty useful as it allows you to create standard JavaScript objects that can act as event handlers and are effectively hookable without having to explicitly override event definitions with JavaScript function handlers. You get all the benefits of jQuery’s event methods including the ability to hook up multiple events to the same handler function and the ability to uniquely identify each specific event instance with post fix string names (ie. .bind("MyEvent.MyName") and .unbind("MyEvent.MyName") to bind MyEvent). Watch out for an .unbind() Bug Note that there appears to be a bug with .unbind() in jQuery that doesn’t reliably unbind an event and results in a elem.removeEventListener is not a function error. The following code demonstrates: var item = { sku: "wwhelp", foo: function () { alert('orginal foo function'); } }; $(item).bind("foo.first", function () { alert('foo hook called'); }); $(item).bind("foo.second", function () { alert('foo hook2 called'); }); $(item).trigger("foo"); setTimeout(function () { $(item).unbind("foo"); // $(item).unbind("foo.first"); // $(item).unbind("foo.second"); $(item).trigger("foo"); }, 3000); The setTimeout call delays the unbinding and is supposed to remove the event binding on the foo function. It fails both with the foo only value (both if assigned only as “foo” or “foo.first/second” as well as when removing both of the postfixed event handlers explicitly. Oddly the following that removes only one of the two handlers works: setTimeout(function () { //$(item).unbind("foo"); $(item).unbind("foo.first"); // $(item).unbind("foo.second"); $(item).trigger("foo"); }, 3000); this actually works which is weird as the code in unbind tries to unbind using a DOM method that doesn’t exist. <shrug> A partial workaround for unbinding all ‘foo’ events is the following: setTimeout(function () { $.event.special.foo = { teardown: function () { alert('teardown'); return true; } }; $(item).unbind("foo"); $(item).trigger("foo"); }, 3000); which is a bit cryptic to say the least but it seems to work more reliably. I can’t take credit for any of this – thanks to Dave Reed and Damien Edwards who pointed out some of these behaviors. I didn’t find any good descriptions of the process so thought it’d be good to write it down here. Hope some of you find this helpful.© Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2010Posted in jQuery

    I'm having a problem with runtime error 1004 at the last line. I'm bringing in an access query into excel 2007. I know the recordset is ok as I can see the fields and data. • I am a beginner to C and this is the dumbest question..Confused about getchar() function

    - by happysoul
    Sorry if I am not supposed to post beginner level questions here..I am new to this site Please read the code below first I am confused about getchar() 's role in the following code.. I mean I know its helping me see the output window which will only be closed when I press enter key So getchar() is basically waiting for me to press enter and then reads a single character .. Now my question.. what is that single character this function is reading ?? I did not press any key from the keyboard for it to read Now when its not reading anything..why it does not give an error saying hey u didn't enter anything for me to read ..lol...(told u its a dumb question) #include <stdio.h> int main() { printf( "blah \n" ); getchar(); return 0; }

  • ASP.net DAL DatasSet and Table Adapter not in namespace - Northwind Tutorial

    - by Alan
    I've been attempting to walk through the "Creating a Data Access Layer" tutorial found http://www.asp.net/learn/data-access/tutorial-01-cs.aspx I create the DB connection, create the typed dataset and table adapter, specify the sql, etc. When I add the code to the presentation layer (in this case a page called AllProducts.aspx) I am unable to find the NorthwindTableAdapters.ProductsTableAdapter class. I tried to import the NorthwindTableAdapters namespace, but it is not showing up. Looking in the solution explorer Class View confirms that there is a Northwind class, but not the namespace I'm looking for. I've tried several online tutorials that all have essentially the same steps, and I'm getting the same results. Can anyone give me a push in the right direction? I'm getting error: Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'NorthwindTableAdapters' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. I think I might need to add a reference OR they may be creating a separate class and importing it into their main project. If that's the case, the tutorials do not mention this. SuppliersTest2.aspx.vb: Imports NorthwindTableAdapters Partial Class SuppliersTest2 Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim suppliersAdapter As New SuppliersTableAdapter GridView1.DataSource = suppliersAdapter.GetAllSuppliers() GridView1.DataBind() End Sub End Class

  • mongo mapper with STI with more than one type?

    - by holden
    I have a series of models all which inherit from a base model Properties For example Bars, Restaurants, Cafes, etc. class Property include MongoMapper::Document key :name, String key :_type, String end class Bar < Property What I'm wondering is what to do with the case when a record happens to be both a Bar & a Restaurant? Is there a way for a single object to inherit the attributes of both models? And how would it work with the key :_type?

  • Design approach, string table data, variables, stl memory usage

    - by howieh
    I have an old structure class like this: typedef vector<vector<string>> VARTYPE_T; which works as a single variable. This variable can hold from one value over a list to data like a table. Most values are long,double, string or double [3] for coordinates (x,y,z). I just convert them as needed. The variables are managed in a map like this : map<string,VARTYPE_T *> where the string holds the variable name. Sure, they are wrapped in classes. Also i have a tree of nodes, where each node can hold one of these variablemaps. Using VS 2008 SP1 for this, i detect a lot of memory fragmentation. Checking against the stlport, stlport seemed to be faster (20% ) and uses lesser memory (30%, for my test cases). So the question is: What is the best implementation to solve this requirement with fast an properly used memory ? Should i write an own allocator like a pool allocator. How would you do this ? Thanks in advance, Howie

  • My delete function does not delete the targeted file

    - by Chester Sabado
    Basically I could upload files based on a project. Whenever I create a project, a new directory is created with the directory name as the project_name e.g. this is a test - this-is-a-test. But my problem is I couldn't delete a file in a directory. function delete_image($id) { $this->load->model(array('work_model', 'project_model')); $result = $this->work_model->get_work($id); $result = $this->project_model->get_project($result->project_id); $dir = str_replace(" ", "-", $result->project_name); $result = $this->work_model->delete($id); if (isset($result)){ unlink('./uploads/' . $dir . '/' . $result->full_path); } redirect('admin/project/view_project/' . $result->project_id); } Need help on this thanks.

  • Minimax algorithm: Cost/evaluation function?

    - by Dave
    Hi guys, A school project has me writing a Date game in C++ (example at http://www.cut-the-knot.org/Curriculum/Games/Date.shtml) where the computer player must implement a Minimax algorithm with alpha-beta pruning. Thus far, I understand what the goal is behind the algorithm in terms of maximizing potential gains while assuming the opponent will minify them. However, none of the resources I read helped me understand how to design the evaluation function the minimax bases all it's decisions on. All the examples have had arbitrary numbers assigned to the leaf nodes, however, I need to actually assign meaningful values to those nodes. Intuition tells me it'd be something like +1 for a win leaf node, and -1 for a loss, but how do intermediate nodes evaluate? Any help would be most appreciated.

  • LINQ to Entities pulling back entire table

    - by Focus
    In my application I'm pulling back a user's "feed". This contains all of that user's activities, events, friend requests from other users, etc. When I pull back the feed I'm calling various functions to filter the request along the way. var userFeed = GetFeed(db); // Query to pull back all data userFeed = FilterByUser(userFeed, user, db); // Filter for the user userFeed = SortFeed(userFeed, page, sortBy, typeName); // Sort it The data that is returned is exactly what I need, however when I look at a SQL Profile Trace I can see that the query that is getting this data does not filter it at the database level and instead is selecting ALL data in the table(s). This query does not execute until I iterate through the results on my view. All of these functions return an IEnumerable object. I was under the impression that LINQ would take all of my filters and form one query to pull back the data I want instead of pulling back all the data and then filtering it on the server. What am I doing wrong or what don't I understand about the way LINQ evaluates queries?

  • Checkbox not being checked when running function

    - by Rudiger
    I have a checkbox that when it is clicked it submits the form to the server to store the detail. All works fine except that after the form is submitted I update a div to say submitted but the checkbox isn't ticked. The page isn't refreshed of course and upon page refresh it is ticked. I thought I might be able to check the box myself as I'm using jQuery but I have a lot of these checkboxes each with a dynamic name so I'm not sure how I would call them. I thought something like: $('input[name=("favourite" + id)]').attr('checked', true); might work but no luck. If I don't call the function on the checkbox being ticked the checkbox behaves normally. Thanks for anything that could help.

  • Can I Specify Strings for MySql Table Values?

    - by afterimagedesign
    I have a MySql table that stores the users state and city from a list of states and cities. I specifically coded each state as their two letter shortened version (like WA for Washington and CA for California) and every city has the two letter abbreviation and the city name formated like this: Boulder Colorado would be CO-boulder and Salt Lake City, Utah would be UT-salt-lake-city as to avoid different states with same city name. The PHP inserts the value (UT-salt-lake-city) under the column City, but when I call the variable through PHP, it displays like this: Your location is: UT-salt-lake-city, Utah. To solve this, I've been making this list of variables if ($city == "AL-auburn") { $city = "Auburn"; } else if ($city == "AL-birmingham") { $city = "Birmingham"; } else if ($city == "GA-columbus") { $city = "Columbus"; $state = "Georgia"; } else if ($city == "AL-dothan") { $city = "Dothan"; } else if ($city == "AL-florence") { $city = "Forence"; } else if ($city == "AL-muscle-shoals") { $city = "Muscle Shoals"; } else if ($city == "AL-gadsden-anniston") { $city = "Gadsden Anniston"; } else if ($city == "AL-huntsville") { $city = "Huntsville"; } else if ($city == "AL-decatur") { $city = "Decatur"; } else if ($city == "AL-mobile") { $city = "Mobile"; } else if ($city == "AL-montgomery") { $city = "Montgomery"; } else if ($city == "AL-tuscaloosa") { $city = "Tuscaloosa"; } Is there a way I can shorten this process or at least call it from a separate file so I don't have to copy/paste every time I want to call the location?

  • "One of the request inputs not valid" error when attempting to update Azure Table Storage

    - by sako73
    I am attempting to update an entry in Azure Table Storage. The function is: public void SaveBug(DaBug bug) { bug.PartitionKey = "bugs"; bug.Timestamp = DateTime.UtcNow; if (bug.RowKey == null || bug.RowKey == string.Empty) { bug.RowKey = Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); _context.AddObject(c_TableName, bug); } else { _context.AttachTo(c_TableName, bug); _context.UpdateObject(bug); } _context.SaveChanges(); } If it is a new entry (the "bug.RowKey == null" path), then it works fine. If it is an update to an existing entity, then the "AttachTo", and the "UpdateObject" calls work, but when it gets to "SaveChanges", it throws the "One of the request inputs not valid" exception. The class that is being stored is: [DataContract] [DataServiceKey("RowKey")] public class DaBug { [DataMember] public bool IsOpen { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Title { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Description { get; set; } [DataMember] public string SubmittedBy { get; set; } [DataMember] public DateTime SubmittedDate { get; set; } [DataMember] public string RowKey { get; set; } public DateTime Timestamp { get; set; } public string PartitionKey { get; set; } } Does anyone know what the problem is? • Adding new record to a VFP data table in VB.NET with ADO recordsets

    - by Gerry
    I am trying to add a new record to a Visual FoxPro data table using an ADO dataset with no luck. The code runs fine with no exceptions but when I check the dbf after the fact there is no new record. The mDataPath variable shown in the code snippet is the path to the .dbc file for the entire database. However, when I copy and paste the same code that creates and uses the DatePicker to an html file that's also in the same directory as the aspx page, it works flawlessly. This leads me to assume that there are some JS files in the aspx page that's preventing the DatePicker or maybe jQuery's UI JS files to load properly. Can anyone confirm my beliefs or provide any tips on finding the culprit that's interfering with jQuery's UI plugins?

  • SubSonic Alias/Where Clause

    - by JohnBob
    Hey, I want to convert the following SQL Query to a SubSonic Query. SELECT [dbo].[tbl_Agency].[ParentCompanyID] FROM [dbo].[tbl_Agency] WHERE REPLACE(PhoneNumber, ' ', '') LIKE REPLACE('%9481 1111%', ' ', '') I thought I would do it like below, but I just can't get it to produce valid SQL. //SubSonic string agencyPhoneNumber = "9481 1111"; SubSonic.SqlQuery subQueryagencyPhoneNumber = new SubSonic.Select(Agency.ParentCompanyIDColumn.ColumnName); subQueryagencyPhoneNumber.From(Agency.Schema.TableName); //WHERE subQueryagencyPhoneNumber.Where("REPLACE(" + Agency.PhoneNumberColumn.ColumnName + ", ' ', '')").Like("%" + agencyPhoneNumber + "%"); Does anyone out there know how to fix this - I'm using SubSonic 2.2. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here - this should be straightforward, right? Cheers, JohnBob

Why can't it be directly linked to "url+html"?

  • Warning: array_multisort() [function.array-multisort]: Argument #1 is expected to be an array or a

    - by johnny
    Hi, the following code produces the error in the title. I've tried to google it, but all I got were pages who got the same error (and not an explanation thereof). This isn't really a problem since it's actually working and cancelling the error out with the @ works out just fine. Though I'm still wondering why I haven't been able to execute array_multisort just once without getting this error. public function getMostRelevant(){ list($occurrences, $keywords) = $this->occurr_keyw_array; array_multisort($occurrences, SORT_DESC, SORT_NUMERIC, $keywords); $return_array = array( array($occurrences[0], $keywords[0]), array($occurrences[1], $keywords[1]), array($occurrences[2], $keywords[2]) ); return $return_array; }

  • Excel VBA to Update SQL Table

    - by user307655
    Hi All, I have a small excel program that is use to upload data to an SQL server. This has been working well for a while. My problem now is that I would like to offer to users a function to update an existing record in SQL. As each row on this table has a unique id columne. There is a column call UID which is the primary key. This is part of the code currently to upload new data: Set Cn = New ADODB.Connection Cn.Open "Driver={SQL Server};Server=" & ServerName & ";Database=" & DatabaseName & _ ";Uid=" & UserID & ";Pwd=" & Password & ";" rs.Open TableName, Cn, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic For RowCounter = StartRow To EndRow rs.AddNew For ColCounter = 1 To NoOfFields rs(ColCounter - 1) = shtSheetToWork.Cells(RowCounter, ColCounter) Next ColCounter Next RowCounter rs.UpdateBatch ' Tidy up rs.Close Set rs = Nothing Cn.Close Set Cn = Nothing Is there anyway i can modify this code to update a particular UID rather than importing new records? Thanks again for your help
