• Using a Netgear WGR614v9 to extend wireless signal from Netgear DG934GT

  I'm wondering if someone could please provide me the steps for extending/repeating my wirless signal so that I can have greater wireless range throughout my house. I have 2 wirless Netgear routers, a DG934GT ADSL router (base unit) and WGR614v9 cable router (repeater). I've flashed both routers with the latest firmware and have turned on the wireless repeating function in the WGR614v9 but I can't get internet access when connected to the repeater, I can only get it when connected to the base unit. Can this be achieved by running an ethernet cable between the two routers as thus far I've only tried to get them to contact each other wirelessly. Any help would be appreciated

• What is the best position for power unit?

  I would like to buy new computer case. Last time I bought a computer was in 2008 and many things have changed up to day. Many new computer cases have power unit placed down, on bottom. I'm thinking about buying some of those cases, but i'm not sure about something - if power unit is placed on the bottom it can't take away hot air from the case and pump it out right? All my PC parts are silent - CPU (E8200, placed below 12cm Nochtua fan of power unit) has heat-pipe cooler with Nochtua fan spinning at only 800rpms, GPU has cooler powered by 7V instead 12 and that's why i don't want to HAVE TO place another fan to pump out hot air instead of PU placed on top. That might make some noise. So i ask someone more experienced: if i buy some computer case with PU placed down, do i HAVE TO place some fan to pump out hot air?

• SQL Server Windows Auth Login not working

  I've had someone set up a domain controller on windows 2008 on one server, and sql server 2008 on another. The domain seems to be working fine, I'm logged on as a domain user on both servers, nothing seems to be a problem there. However, when I try to add a domain user/group to SQL Server Security (e.g. clicking ok from the create login screen) it says it can't find it (even though I've used the search to find the correct account in the first place), when I try to logon (even though I haven't added it yet) it says something about the account being part of an untrusted domain instead of saying I don't have permission to log on. Anyone have any ideas on what is set up incorrectly?

  I know Linux can use RDMA NICs like Solarflare... I just found Intel has something like that NetEffect cards. But Intel is talking all about clusters.. Can someone please explain. If I want low-latency networking and install RDMA NIC on my server. Is there limitation on where the cable can go? Is there a specific device expected on the other end? Is it special RDMA switch or RDMA adapter before switch or what? Why is this cluster talk? What if I want a single server with Windows (I can install HPC Windows or Windows 2008 R2)?

  I have a non-daemon server app that my windows 2003 server needs to run all the time. The problem is, every time the server restarts, be it electricity or windows update, someone needs to press ctrl alt del and enter username/password. Then the program starts, as it's in startup. How do I make windows 2003 to automatically log in to administrator or spawn a terminal services session every time the system boots? I know it's against the nature of servers and all. But this is the only thing the server does.

• Simple recursive DNS resolver for debugging (app or VM)

  I have an issue which I believe is caused by incorrect DNS queries (doubled subdomains like _record.host.subdomain.tld.subdomain.tld) when querying for SRV records. So I need to an alternate DNS server with heavy logging so I can see every query (especially stupid ones), acting as a recursive resolver with the ability create records which override real DNS records so I can not only find the records it's (wrongly) looking for, but populate those records as well. I know I could install a DNS server on yet another linux box, but I feel like this is the sort of thing that someone may already setup a simple python script or single use vm just for this purpose.

• Chrome Saved Passwords security issue

  If I save a password in Google chrome someone else can easily see the password from Setting -> Advance Settings -> Manage saved passwords -> Show (in required password field) and use it from another computer. Isn't it causing a security issue? I guess it is much secure if it display only the entry and all dots or something for the password (not the actual password). Is there any acceptable idea of showing the password to anyone this easily? Note: Firefox is also showing the actual passwords, I Didn't check in IE.

I do have IP delegation/authority from the data center and allocated IPs directly from ARIN.   I have extended a webapplication in a farm. main server vsmoss1 where i did vsmoss1 ->webapplication(80) vm.com -> extended web app(of above one)anonymous WFE server name vsmoss2 WFE server name vsmoss3 i have load balanced it to got to vsmoss2 and vsmoss3 when someone hits vm.com when i hit vm.com it works fine without authentication(shows content query webpart also on my page) I know there is no need to do that but when I hit vsmoss2 and vsmoss3 it shows me error on my content query webpart ....any solution for that? Finding this strange tried this : I closed both extended webapp in vsmoss2 and vsmoss3 result: site is up and running but this time with authentication I closed both extended and main webapplication site in vsmoss2 and vsmoss3 is down I closed main webapplication in vsmoss2 and vsmoss3 site is up and running without authentication Anyone is having idea why this is showing behaviour like this...?

• Adjusting the column height of a Word 2007 Mail Merge on every page?

  I've been doing mail merges lately and we use labels that aren't listed in the default MS Word settings: I tried measuring them out and here is what I got: Despite measuring them they don't seem to fit, and I always end up having to adjust the heights so that they print correctly. When I do this and I have 24 pages or so of labels I have to adjust each page individually and it all gets a bit annoying. So I was wondering if anyone had the proper measurements (since mine didn't work) or if maybe someone knew how to adjust the height of the columns of every page in exactly the same way to avoid using more labels.

I've had a similar problem before, on a different machine, running openbox. On that machine, this problem started when I upgraded to Lucid, and has persisted in Maverick (release 10.10). I reported a bug in xorg. However, it remains unclear whether it's really a problem with xorg, or if I'm just doing something wrong with my configuration. Have other people experienced this problem? Can someone shed some light on what's going on here? It seems there are quite a few layers involved, and I don't understand any of them particularly well, so any information would be helpful. update I've discovered that the problem is specifically triggered by adding the Canada layout variant "Multilingual" (ca-multix). If I instead add the variant "Multilingual (first part)", the problem does not occur. I think this will probably end up being a usable workaround, but I don't yet know what the difference between these variants is. I've filed a freedesktop issue, and am commenting on a related ubuntu issue.

• Understanding Zabbix Triggers

  I have zabbix set with an item to monitor a log file on a zabbix client: log["/var/log/program_name/client.log","ERROR:","UTF-8",100] And a trigger to determine when that log file get's more ERRORs: {Template_Linux:log["/var/log/program_name/client.log","ERROR:","UTF-8",100].change(0)}#0 This trigger gets tripped when the log file gets ERRORs the first time, but then that first trigger just sits around for ever in Monitoring-Triggers. My understanding is that the next time the server checks the value of log["/var/log/program_name/client.log","ERROR:","UTF-8",100] and sees that it hasn't changed that the trigger would go away. Obviously this isn't the case. Could someone explain why this first trigger isn't going away? Ultimately my goal is to receive an email whenever ERRORs are added to that log file, but I would like to understand how triggers are working first.

• Dual Home HP Server running Win2003

  Hello everyone. I'm new to server dual homing. I have a HP ProLiant DL360 G4p running Win2003 with 2 NICs , only one is currently active. I'd like to activate the 2nd NIC connected (in a active/passive state) to a 2nd switch with only one IP address and ideally only one mac layer address. The 1st switch is a Cisco 2960G and the 2nd is a Cisco C3560G. There are VLANS, RSTP and PAGP in use already. Can someone give me an idea, in broad terms , of what technology/protocols I should be investigating (HSRP, SLB Teaming etc.) ? I can provide more info if needed. Thanks, Colm.

  i have an external hard drive that i have set to Drive F which on it contains some programs that i have shortcuts on the desktop how i have a second external hard drive which i store my music on which is auto assigned to Drive E, due to someone thinking that Australians love to have f** wings on power plugs for hard drives while power boards have each socket close together i can have both of these hard drives set at the same time my music hard drive i normally only plug up when i sync music to my ipod but on occasion when i unplug my music hard drive and plug my old one back in or at times when i turn on my computer with the music hard drive in, turn off my computer and turn it back on with my old hard drive it's drive letter gets switched to E i get annoyed having to always go into disk management and change the drive letter back to F when this happens so i am wondering if I can lock my hard drive to always be F, if anything else tries to be F it can fail for all i care If there is a batch file i can use that'll go though all the steps of Disk Management to change a drive's letter, that way i can set it up in the startup folder

• Getting around the lack of GPT support with CentOS 5.4

  Here is my issue and I hoping that there is someone out there that has an answer so I don't end up stuck here at my co-location all day. Last night I came here and upgraded a server (Dell 2970) to have four 1TB Hard Drives in RAID 5 which leaves a 3TB block. I tried to partition this but keep getting an error that GPT is not supported so I found a site online telling me I need to run the dd command and right random data to /dev/sda. This is great (if it works) but taking forever. I have two more machines to upgrade today and not a chair in site. Does anyone have advice on how I can avoid this issue beforehand? It came with an extention cord and when i had it a few feet away i was able to (usually) get full speed I had a wifi card in a tower in the past and just about all laptops have it built in How do i use a USB wifi adapter properly? The first device didnt come with an extention cord and made no mention of bringing it away from the computer. When someone else tested the device he said he was getting full speed while it was plugged into his tower so i was pretty surpised. How do i use USB wifi devices properly?

  Whats the problem: When I goto //localhost/phpmyadmin I get what I would get if I did //localhost/, I'm using both http: and https:. What did I do, that changed it: I simply reinstalled lighttpd. What I have tried: Disabling and re-enabling 50-phpmyadmin.conf, Now I get a "403 - Forbidden" instead. When I goto /phpmyadmin/setup it asks me for a login, Not a clue what it is. Now I'm waiting for someone to help. :) Thanks to anyone with any answers. Latest Status: Not working, giving me a "403 - Forbidden".

  At SSW we have always done Agile. Recently we have started doing Scrum and we have nearly completed our first Sprint ever using Scrum. As you probably guessed from my previous post, it looks like it is going to be a “Failed Sprint”, but the Scrum Team (This includes the ScrumMaster and the Product Owner) has learned a huge amount about working in the Scrum Framework. We have been running with a “Proxy Product Owner” for the last two weeks, but a simple mistake occurred either during the “Product Planning Meeting” or the “Sprint Planning Meeting” that could have prevented this Sprint from failing. We has a heated discussion on the vision of someone not in the room which ended with the assertion that the Product Owner would be quizzed again on their vision. This did not happen and we ran with the “Proxy Product Owner’s vision for two weeks. Product Owner vision: Update Component A of Product A to Silverlight Proxy Product Owner vision: Update Product A to Silverlight Do you see the problem? Worse than that, as we had a lot of junior members of the Scrum Team and we are just feeling our way around how Scrum will work at SSW I missed implementing a fundamental rule. That’s right, it was me. It does not matter that I did not know about this rule, its on the site and I should have read it. Would a police officer let you off if you did not know that a red light meant stop? I think not… But, what is this amazing rule I hear you shout.. Its simple, as per our rule I should have sent the following email: “ Dear Proxy Product Owner, For the record, I disagree that the Product Owner wants us to ‘Update Product A to Silverlight’ as I still think that he wants us to ‘Update Component A of Product A to Silverlight’ and not the entire application.   I'm using CentOS 5. I have a need to use net-snmp version "net-snmp-utils-5.5-37.el6_2.1.x86_64" which is currently available in CentOS 6 but not in CentOS 5. The reason I need this version (or greater) is because there is a new supported option added to the config files that I need for my setup. It would be very much appreciated if someone would give me some steps to install this version (or greater) on my production CentOS 5 systems. Upgrading to CentOS 6 is currently not an option.   Today I set up my first RAID ever. I decided to use RAID5, because I want as much space as possible, but I'm to afraid to use RAID0 because of possible data loss. I have 4 0,5TB drives and in RAID5 I have about 1,36TB usable. That's fine by me. Now I have a question. I'm thinking about purchasing a 2TB drive and can't figure out if it is possible to add it to this RAID (4*0,5TB + 1*2TB HDD) and how much space will I gain.
