  • Default values for model fields in a Ruby on Rails form

    I have a Model which has fields username, data, tags, date, votes. I have form using form_for that creates a new item and puts it into the database. However, as you can guess I want the votes field to equal 0 and the date field to equal the current date when it is placed into the database. How and where would I set/apply these values to the item? I can get it to work with hidden fields in the form but this comes with obvious issues (someone could set the votes field to a massive number.

    I have 2 tables/models, which for all practical purposes are the same as the standard Author/Book example, but with the additional restriction that in my application each Author can only write 0 or 1 books. (eg, the ForeignKey field in the Book model is or can be a OneToOneField, and there may be authors who have no corresponding book in the Book table.) I would like to be able to display a form showing multiple books and also show some fields from the corresponding Author table (eg author_name, author_address). I followed the example of the inlineformset and but that doesn't even display the author name in the generated form.

    I am customizing the ajax html editor. I am creating a class which derives from ajax html editor, and overriding FillTopToolbar() method to have limited toolbar buttons. I am trying to use this in my aspx page. <%@ Register namespace="Content" tagprefix="edit" %> <edit:MyEditor runat="server" Width="100%" Height="250px"/> I am able to see the editor in my aspx page. The problem comes when I give an ID to the control <edit:QNAEditor ID="htmlEditor" runat="server" Width="100%" Height="250px"/> I get an error in the designer file in the below line. protected global::Content.MYHTMLEditor htmlEditor; I am not able to use it in code behind. I am using VS 2010. Please help me in this regard.

    I have a page that displays content retrieved from XML with no problems: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <Root> <Fields> <NamePrompt>??</NamePrompt> </Fields> </Root> Page encoding is set to GB18030 and it displays perfectly. However, when I retrieve inputted text from HttpContext.Current.Request.Form that's been entered with double-byte characters, the retrieved string contains unreadable characters. Single-byte characters are fine, obviously. I've tried the following to no avail: byte[] valueBytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(HttpContext.Current.Request.Form["fullName"]); string value = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(valueBytes); I don't see this problem with other double-byte languages like Japanese or Korean. How can I successfully retrieve double-byte characters from a page that's GB18030 encoded?

These pages are on different servers.     I want to know how can I enable form based authentication in java through database. After connecting to database, how can I verify whether the username and password, which I'm entering through html page is correct or not? Do I have to change action servlets from j_security_check to another my own defined servlets, which will connect to database and do all its verification on its own? Or I've to send authentication information to j_security_check, which will automatically connect to database, verify username and password. I'm successful in connecting to database through context.xml file, which is in META-INF directory of my own web application, but I'm not able to understand what's more I've to do enable form based authentication. I'm using Tomcat 6 as web server.

  • Visual studio winform designer shows design errors as text rather than html

    All of the sudden, visual studio displays designer errors as plain html text, for example: <DIV id="div1" class="ErrorStyle" width="100%"><span style="font-weight: 600"><br>Object reference not set to an instance of an object. </span><br><a href="" instead of displaying the usual html formatted. I haven't been able to find anything similar to it on google. Before getting this problem, when I tried opening the winform designer, I would get the run/save/cancel dialog of internet explorer for a .tmp file, instead of the designer window. That went away when I found out that I had notepad assigned to the .tmp file type and removed that. Any ideas how to fix this?

    I have a date time picker combination in a edit template that can be used like Html.EditorFor(x = x.ETA) but now I want to use the same template somewhere where I don't have a model that contains a DateTime property. So I tried Html.Editor("DateWithTime", "Arrival") which uses the correct template, but doesn't assign a value to ViewData.ModelMetadata.PropertyName which is something that my template relies on. It sets the id of the textbox which is obviously important. Is there a way to render the template and assign a id value to the ViewData.ModelMetadata.PropertyName so I can re-use the logic in the template instead of having to copy it?

    I have a form with checkboxes, each one has a value. When the registered user select any checkbox the value is incremented (the summation) and then then registred user save his selection of checkbox if he satisfied with the result of summation into database all this work fine ...i want to enable the registred user to view his selection history by retriving and displaying the checkboxes he selected in a page with thier values ... How I can do that? I'm just able to save the selected checkboxes as choice 1, choice 2, for example ..   • What's the simplest way to ask for user input through Modal in Win Form

    What is the simplest way to implement a Modal(popup) MessageBox that allows a custom value to be entered and returned. In my case, a String. Maybe I am over thinking this but I figured I'd ask. I plan to just create a new Form. Add a label, a textbox, two buttons. Assign the textbox to a property and from my main form call a ShowDialog() on it. Will I be able to still access the property that way or should I somehow return the value? Is this a decent way of doing this?

    I have a client-server application, in which I use classic Sockets and threads for receiving/sending data and listening for clients. The application works fine, but after some random time I get the ObjectDisposedException: System.ObjectDisposedException: Cannot access a disposed object. Object name: 'MainForm'. at System.Windows.Forms.Control.MarshaledInvoke(Control caller, Delegate method, Object[] args, Boolean synchronous) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method, Object[] args) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.Invoke(Delegate method) That code is called from client Socket thread and I use Invoke() method to run the code on UI thread. I'm sure that I don't manually dispose the form nor using Close() (form is closed by user clicking Close button), so I don't know what could cause its disposing.

But it has a performance limitation during the generation of bulk pages (like more than 1000) in the pdf. The limitation comes when we use bigger images in the html content. From last 4 months i've been working on the winnovative control and found plenty of major bugs in it. For a small application and usage. winnovative is good but not for the level where application will be used by thousands of clients. Please suggest.

    I have a process that creates form data in the form of an .fdf file that then has a reference to the .pdf document that is its "parent". is it possible with any .NET process to save that .pdf file (populated with the data that came in from the .fdf)? I need this because I need to email the fully populated .pdf documents out. I've been just sending the .fdfs with fully qualified links to the pdfs, but some people are having problems with it and I'd rather just go full-blown pdf if I can do it. FYI, my server does have a licensed copy of Acrobat installed if that matters....

I am using onpostbackurl ...Its posting the form to other server but text field input is not getting into other server. If I remove enctype="multipart.. it seems to be working fine...but the thing is I am doing all this in sharepoint and <formid="aspnetform" enctype="multipart/datapart"...is getting added on its own..... in my control I am giving text field and button only .....Any idea how to achieve this...?

When I dynamically load the lightbox (and I use AJAX to update its content) the html inside the lightbox is not parse... so no tooltips, no videos. how can I solve this ? Should I trigger the plugins again from Lightbox callback function ? Or should I use something else instead of the lightbox ? Thanks
