• Gson module not found Blackberry Java application

  Hi. I'm developing a simple application for Blackberry and i'm using Google's gson to retrieve some data from a server. The UI was working fine but when I added the gson part it started failing, it wont run. When I run the application in the simulator it show this error: "Uncaught: RuntimeException" on that annoying white screen of death and after holding the click button I can see that there is an alert dialog that says "Module 'gson-1.4' not found". However I did added "gson-1.4.jar" in the Project's Properties - Java Build Path - Add External JARs... also, the Gson objects are recognized at my code, no syntax errors at my code. BTW, I'm using Eclipse and the most recent Blackberry SDK Please help

• Java Math.cos() Method Does Not Return 0 When Expected

  Using Java on a Windows 7 PC (not sure if that matters) and calling Math.cos() on values that should return 0 (like pi/2) instead returns small values, but small values that, unless I'm misunderstanding, are much greater than 1 ulp off from zero. Math.cos(Math.PI/2) = 6.123233995736766E-17 Math.ulp(Math.cos(Math.PI/2)) = 1.232595164407831E-32 Is this in fact within 1 ulp and I'm simply confused? • Java framework "suggestion" for persisting the results from an Oracle 9i stored procedure using Apac

  Hello, I am developing a Java servlet which calls an Oracle stored procedure. The stored procedure is likely to "grow" over time, and I have concerns the amount of time taken to "display the results on a web page". While I am at the implementation stage, I would like some suggestions of a Persistence framework which will work on Apache Tomcat 5.5? I see two approaches to persisting the database results. A scheduled database query every N minutes, or something which utilises triggers. Hibernate seems like the obvious answer, but I have never called stored procedures from Hibernate (HQL and Criteria). Is there a more appropriate framework which can be used? Thank you. cheers Miles.

  Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with doing mail merge from Java on a word document? I need to support both doc and docx formats. I have heard of Apache POI and docx4j. However, from reading around I'm sure how good the word support is in POI. docx4j only supports docx format as far as I can see. Can any suggest either one of the above (and correct my knowledge on support) or another appropriate library. If necessary I would be willing to use one lib for doc and another for docx. Thanks.

  Hi, I'm trying to integrate Sugar CRM with one of my projects. I'm using Apache Axis as my SOAP client. I've created the Sugar CRM client Stub classes using Apache Axis. I'm able to login and add Leads, Opportunities, Accounts and Contacts. But I'm unable to add a relation ship between my Account and Opportunity. I've found following method in the SugarsoapPortType port.set_relationship(session, module_name, module_id, link_field_name, related_ids, name_value_list, delete) but I cannot understand the different parameters required by this method.   I have a class with an attribute and getter method: public Class MyClass { private String myValue = "foo"; public String getMyValue(); } I would like to be able to use the value of foo in a formatted string as such: String someString = "Your value is {myValue}." String result = Formatter.format(someString, new MyClass()); // result is now "Your value is foo." That is, I would like to have some function like .format above which takes a format string specifying properties on some object, and an instance with those properties, and formats the string accordingly. Is it possible to do accomplish this feat in Java?

Unfortunately we have to remove previous application before deploying a new version of it since we have same context for these two different application. This error-prone process leads some problems due to lack of attention in builds or other problems. In an urgent case, we simply want to redirect to all traffic to previous application. • Using java to send/receive different objects through UDP

  Hello everyone, I am writing a program in Java where there are communications between two or more machines using UDP. My application sends objects after serializing them through the network to the other machine where it will be deserialized and dealt with it. I was successful in sending one kind of objects so far. My problem is that I want the sender to be able to send different kind of objects, and for the receiver to be able to receive them and cast them again to their appropriate types. However, since UDP allocates a byte buffer then receive the data into the buffer, it is impossible to cast or detect the type of the received object as different objects have different sizes. Is there is a way that I can use to send different kind of objects using UDP and then receive them at the other end? (I don't ask for code here, just some ideas) Thanks

• Programmatically adding a trusted cert in Java

  I use SSL to communicate between two components written in Java. I can't use a CA, so I have to self-sign everything. Unfortunately, this means that when I try to handshake, I get a SunCertPathBuilderException. I can create my own X509TrustManager that just trusts everything, but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a signed cert. I would like, when first making the connection, to prompt the user with "SSL handshake with invalid cert. Add cert to store?" or something so they could have it added for them to their certificate store, like web browsers do at sites with invalid certs. I can find plenty of examples online of adding a cert to the store through the commandline, but I can't figure out how to do it programmatically. Is there a way to do this?

  Hi, I have been creating a thin browser client (on java) that sends an RTMP stream to a specified red5 instance. I also use RTMP Researcher to monitor the traffic and events that occur between the client and the server. Here is what I note: There is obviously a map with options that is being exchanged between the red5 instance and the client. I was wondering what are the possible values that could be put in such an optionsMap and where to obtain a list of them?

  Hi Pro's, which parser (java) would you recommend for parsing GPX data? Im looking for a one that is very intuitive to use and should not need too much RAM (it seems that DOM requires too much, doesn't it?). I have no idea about parsing xml, so it is time for me to learn this ;-) My documents are not very huge and are always read twice(a point for DOM), but I don't want to keep as few things as possible in RAM. What would you do in this situation? Which one would you coose and why?

The java doc says the proxy instance implements "a list of interfaces", says nothing about subclassing, but through debugging, I saw that the proxy instance did inherit the target class properites.What does the "a list of interfaces " mean? Can I exclude those interfaces implemented by target class ? 2.Can I invoke target class specific methods on a proxy instance? 3.   Hi! I'm receiving a datetime from a SOAP webservice without timzone information. Hence, the Axis deserializer assumes UTC. However, the datetime really is in Sydney time. I've solved the problem by substracting the timezone offset: Calendar trade_date = trade.getTradeDateTime(); TimeZone est_tz = TimeZone.getTimeZone("Australia/Sydney"); long millis = trade_date.getTimeInMillis() - est_tz.getRawOffset(); trade_date.setTimeZone( est_tz ); trade_date.setTimeInMillis( millis ); However, I'm not sure if this solution also takes daylight saving into account. I think it should, because all operations are on UTC time. Any experiences with manipulating time in Java? Better ideas on how to solve this problem?

  Hi!  Does anyone have a real-world experience in building such a project? I'd like to move away questions about "is it good idea or not", but focus on possible solutions. I see one simple way - HTTP GET/POST + xml/json - and one more elegant - AJAX/DWR. As for the first one - I understand that it is possible, but needs quite a lot coding. As for second way - is it possible to use Java DWR engine with PHP front-end? Is DWR language-independent for client side (as it uses just JavaScript)?  Would it be a problem, that client page was generated by one web server (for example, apache+php) and served on server-side by another (for example, tomcat)? I suspect, that Tomcat will complain about sessions. Can this problem be fixed with allowing cross-domain AJAX? Thank you in advance. Denis.

• Java Heap Overflow, Forcing Garbage Collection

  I've create a trie tree with an array of children. When deleting a word, I set the children null, which I would assume deletes the node(delete is a relative term). I know that null doesn't delete the child, just sets it to null, which when using a large amount of words it causes to overflow the heap. Running a top on linux, I can see my memory usage spike to 1gb pretty quickly, but if I force garbage collection after the delete (Runtime.gc()) the memory usage goes to 50mb and never above that. From what I'm told, java by default runs garbage collection before a heap overflow happens, but I can't see to make that happen.

When this java pid is killed, I need to perform some cleanup operations for each of the long running thread, like connecting to DB and set status of some transactions which are in-progress to empty. Is there a way to write a method in each of the thread, which will be called when the thread is going to be stopped, by JVM.

  I've a java webApp where people can sell their items like in ebay. I need to integrate a payment system and I'm wondering what's the best (from a customer point of view) and easiest to integrate in my app. I was thinking to integrate paypal and require all the sellers to have an account on it. Maybe Google Checkout can be a good option as well, but I don't know if it's used a lot. I think I'll redirect the user to Paypal and then remove the item once I receive the confirmation from paypal that the item has been payed.   I am looking to allow HTML emails (and other HTML uploads) without letting in scripts and stuff. I plan to have a white list of safe tags and attributes as well as a whitelist of CSS tags and value regexes (to prevent automatic return receipt). I asked a question: Parse a badly formatted XML document (like an HTML file) I found there are many many ways to do this. Some systems have built in sanitizers (which I don't care so much about). I will post some answers and say Community Wiki. Please post any other options you like and say Community Wiki so they can be voted on. Also any comments or wiki edits on what part of a certain product is better and what is not would be greatly appreciated. • Writing to a java socket channel which should be closed does not generate an exception

  Hi all, We have a java server that keeps a socket channel open with an Android client in order to provide push capabilities to our client application. However, after putting the Android in airplane mode, which I expected would sever the connection, the server can still write to the SocketChannel object associated with that Android client and no error is thrown. Calling SocketChannel.isConnected() before writing to it returns true. What are we missing? Is the handling of sockets different with mobile devices? Thanks in advance for your help.

  Hi All, I have created a login page using java swing. and i created jar for the application. Now when I run the jar then my login page is displayed then i minimize the application and again run the jar then another instance of my application is displayed (means now in my system I have two login page. 1 is in minimized format and another is in normal state. But I want that if in my system login page is already running and is minimized then if i run the jar once again then it will not start as a new application rather it should maximize the earlier login page.
