Is dynamic evaluation of xpath variable string possible using .net 2.0 xslt implementation?

Hi, I'm trying to evaluate an xpath varable I'm building dynamically based on the position of the node. I can create the xpath string in a variable but when I select the value of this just get the string and not the node set I need. I use the following to create the xpath <xsl:variable name="xpathstring" select="normalize-space(concat("//anAttribute[@key='pos",position(),"']"))"/> and try to output the value with the following. <xsl:value-of select="$xpathstring"/> If I execute the xpath in my debugger I get the nodeset but in my xml output only get the xpath string which looks like this //anAttribute[@key='pos1'] I had a look at exslt dyn:evaluate which seems to enable this but this seems to be only supported by certain processors and doesn't provide a standalone implementation or at least as far as I could see (currently using the standard .net 2.0 xslt whihc is only xslt 1.0 as far as I recall) Is there anyway to handle this without changing processor? Any suggestions I could use to make consistent, readable linq blocks?

How do you DELETE rows in a mysql table that have a field IN the results of another query?

here's what the statement looks like: DELETE FROM videoswatched vw2 WHERE vw2.userID IN ( SELECT vw.userID FROM videoswatched vw JOIN users u ON vw.userID=u.userID WHERE u.companyID = 1000 GROUP BY userID ) that looks decent to me, and the SELECT statement works on its own (producing rows with a single column 'userID'. basically, i want to delete entries in the 'videoswatched' table where the userID in the videoswatched entry, after joining to the users table, is found to have companyID=1000. how can i do this without getting the error in my sql syntax? it says the error is near: vw2 WHERE vw2.userID IN ( SELECT vw.userID FROM videoswatched vw JOIN users u and on line 1. thanks!

Now the question, is it possible to build the query from a text the user has entered at runtime? Like var q = QueryFromText("from a in data where a.X > 20 select new {a.Y, a.Z}"); The point being, that the user (having programming skills) can dynamically and freely select the displayed data.

MySQL Query to receive random combinations from two tables.

Alright, here is my issue, I have two tables, one named firstnames and the other named lastnames. What I am trying to do here is to find 100 of the possible combinations from these names for test data. The firstnames table has 5494 entries in a single column, and the lastnames table has 88799 entries in a single column. The only query that I have been able to come up with that has some results is: select * from (select * from firstnames order by rand()) f LEFT JOIN (select * from lastnames order by rand()) l on 1=1 limit 10; The problem with this code is that it selects 1 firstname and gives every lastname that could go with it. While this is plausible, I will have to set the limit to 500000000 in order to get all the combinations possible without having only 20 first names(and I'd rather not kill my server). However, I only need 100 random generations of entries for test data, and I will not be able to get that with this code. Can anyone please give me any advice?

However the following doesn't work: select_link.up('form'); // returns undefined Yet, this does. select_link.up().up().up(); // returns HTMLFormElement Clearly this is an ancestor of a.select_all. The API Docs state Element.up() supports a CSSRule. What am I missing here?

I need to select records say 2000 from a table with a matching timestamp from c# .net code. Eg: SELECT * FROM ITEMDATA_TABLE WHERE ITEMNAME='Item1' and TimeStamp='2010-04-26 17:15:05.667' The above query has to execute for 2000 items more for the same timestamp. for this we can use SELECT * FROM ITEMDATA_TABLE WHERE ITEMNAME in ('Item1','Item2','Item3','Item4',......) AND TimeStamp='2010-04-26 17:15:05.667' from SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried appending all Item names to one string variable and giving it as a parameter to the stored procedure,but it resulted into a wrong concatenation. How can I do this as a stored procedure executing from the .net code? Can anyone suggest me/correct me in doing this? Thanks & Regards Padma

A brief question about JS or AJAX

I have been finding ways around this for a long time but think it's time I addressed it. If I have a page that has a dropdown menu, is there anyway I can select a value which will subsequently load other values further down. Can this be done without a page reload? I will give you an example. Say I was making some tools for an admin panel, but first of all they needed to select a member to work with. They would select the member and then below, the fields about that member would be populated based on what was selected in the first menu. As I have already asked, can this be done without a page reload? Thanks for reading.

I have a table foo and a table bar, where each foo might have a bar (and a bar might belong to multiple foos). Now I need to select all foos with a bar. My sql looks like this SELECT * FROM foo f WHERE [...] AND ($param IS NULL OR (SELECT ((COUNT(*))>0) FROM bar b WHERE f.bar = b.id)) with $param being replaced at runtime. The question is: Will the subquery be executed even if param is null, or will the dbms optimize the subquery out? We are using mysql, mssql and oracle. Is there a difference between these regarding the above?

Hi All, I have an comma delimited string which I want to use in an "IN" clause of the statement. eg: 100,101,102 Since In and "IN" clause I have to quote the individial strings, I use a replace function: eg: select ''''||replace('100,101,102',',',''', ''')||'''' from dual; The above query works, however, when I try to use the output of the above as an input to the "IN" clause, it returns no data. I am restricted by only SQL statements, so I cannot use PL/SQL code. Kindly help. eg: select * from employee where employee_number in ( select ''''||replace('100,101,102',',',''', ''')||'''' from dual); The above does not work. Please let me know what I am missing.

I'm trying to write a query that will: Run a query, give me (x) number of rows (limit 4) If that query didn't give me the 4 I need, run a second query limit 4-(x) and exclude the ids from the first query A third query that acts like the second I have this: (SELECT *, 1 as SORY_QUERY1 FROM xbamZ where state = 'Minnesota' and industry = 'Miscellaneous' and id != '229' limit 4) UNION (SELECT *, 2 FROM xbamZ where state = 'Minnesota' limit 2) UNION (SELECT *, 3 FROM xbamZ where industry = 'Miscellaneous' limit 1) How (or is?) do I do that? Am I close? This query gives me duplicates

Here are the SQL Queries: $sql1 = "SELECT count(thread) AS total FROM comments WHERE thread=1 AND parent_id=0 "; $sql2 = "SELECT count(thread) AS total FROM comments, users WHERE thread=1 AND parent_id=0 AND users.user_id=comments.user_id "; $sql3 = "SELECT comments.*, users.username AS username FROM comments, users WHERE thread=1 AND parent_id=0 AND users.user_id=comments.user_id ORDER BY date LIMIT 10, 5 "; My question is why would $sql1 and $sql2 would return two different results? $sql1 returns 61 rows $sql2 returns 56 rows The 5th line in $sql2 is just for testing, is not required, is just a variation of $sql1 which gets the total rows for a pagination.

A while ago I worked on a MS-SQL project and I remember a "IS IN" thing. I tried it on a MySQL project and it did not work. Is there an equivalent? Workaround? How would you achieve that with MySQL (while trying to be efficient)?

Hiding dropdown list when list is empty

I currently have a dropdown list that is populated on page load and sometimes the dropdown list doesn't contain anything and is empty. I would like the hide the dropdown list whenever there aren't any items in the list. linq with Include and criteria

How would I translate this into LINQ? Say I have A parent table (Say, customers), and child (addresses). I want to return all of the Parents who have addresses in California, and just the california address. (but I want to do it in LINQ and get an object graph of Entity objects) Here's the old fashioned way: SELECT c.blah, a.blah FROM Customer c INNER JOIN Address a on c.CustomerId = a.CustomerId where a.State = 'CA' The problem I'm having with LINQ is that i need an object graph of concrete Entity types (and it can't be lazy loaded. i have a query like this: ID | name | commentsCount 1 | mysql for dummies | 33 2 | mysql beginners guide | 22 SELECT ..., commentsCount // will return 33 for first row, 22 for second one FROM mycontents WHERE name LIKE "%mysql%" also i want to know the total of comments, of all rows: SELECT ..., SUM(commentsCount) AS commentsCountAggregate // should return 55 FROM mycontents WHERE name LIKE "%mysql%" but this one obviously returns a single row with the total. now i want to merge these two queries in one single only, because my actual query is very heavy to execute (it uses boolean full text search, substring offset search, and sadly lot more), then i don't want to execute it twice is there a way to get the total of comments without making the SELECT twice? !! custom functions are welcome !! also variable usage is welcome, i never used them...

hi, I'm trying to create a query in an access database for a C# dataset using the query editor but the created method says there is a problem and isn't created correctly. Error in WHERE clause near '@'. Unable to parse query text. the generated select method doesn't have any parameters and is unusable. I've tried the exact same SQL statement in the access query and it worked flawlessly, what am I supposed to be doing differently when transferring it to C#?

So for making a simple search like from FR to US I use: @search_result = Load.find(:all, :conditions => "country_from='#{params[:country_from]}' AND country_to='#{params[:country_to]}'" ) that is fine, but I need to implement the ALL option as well, so when I make a search like from DE to ALL I get a list with all countries in country_to I image I can do it with ifs...but what would be the most efficient way to do it?
