  • How do I replace "this" in Java with something that works.

    - by Luke Alderton
    I'm looking to get the showGUI() method work, the compiler says "this" is not a static variable and cannot be referenced from a static context, what would I use to replace "this"? I've tried test.main (test being the package it's in). The reason I'm using the static method showGUI() is because I need the method to be called from another static method, as well as the startup() method. Below are my two main classes. public class Main extends SingleFrameApplication { @Override protected void startup() { showGUI(); } @Override protected void configureWindow(java.awt.Window root) { } public static Main getApplication() { return Application.getInstance(Main.class); } public static void main(String[] args) { launch(Main.class, args); } public static void showGUI() { show(new GUI(this)); } } public class GUI extends FrameView { public GUI(SingleFrameApplication app) { super(app); initComponents(); } private void initComponents() { //all the GUI stuff is somehow defined here } }

  • What is a good solution to link different tables in Hibernate based on some field value?

    - by serg555
    I have article table and several user tables a_user, b_user, ... with exactly the same structure (but different data). I can't change anything in *_user tables except their table name prefix but can change everything else (user tables contain only user information, there is nothing about article or user_type in them). I need to link article to a user (many-to-one), but user table name is defined by user_type field. For example Article table record: ... user_id="5" user_type="a" means that it is linked to a user with id=5 from a_user table (id 5 is not unique in users scope, each user table can have its id 5). Any suggestions how to handle this situation? How can I map this relation in Hibernate (xml mapping, no annotations) so it will automatically pick up correct user for an article during select/update? How should I map user tables (one or multiple classes?)? I would need to run some queries like this: from Article a where a.userType=:type and a.user.name=:name Thanks.

  • How can I fix Grails error: "No domain class found for name PrivacyOptions. Please try again and e

    - by ?????
    I'm just getting started with Groovy/Grails. I added a new domain controller to my project, and generate-controller doesn't like it. There are other indications something's wrong: If I run the app no table is actually created in the database for this. I've reduced the DomainController to one String field and no constraints, just to make sure there wasn't something wrong with my specification. I also tried renaming it, just in case there was something about the original name (Privacy) that conflicted with something. I'm sure I have the correct name, and that the file is called PrivacyOptions.groovy and inside the class is also called PrivacyOptions. Here's the error: Running script /opt/local/grails/scripts/GenerateController.groovy Environment set to development Domain class not found in grails-app/domain, trying hibernate mapped classes... No domain class found for name PrivacyOptions. Please try again and enter a valid domain class name

  • how to set and access variable values from another classess

    - by BittenApple
    I am modifying QuartzDemo example app and want to do set and read values of integer type variables in other classes which are already included. For example, in MainViewController.m I want to set a numeric value (simple numbers from 1-100) to a variable which is then going to be called (read) in file QuartzImages.m. Question is how to define variable properly, set and access (read) the value. I am a beginner with Obj C and iPhone SDK in general and have some experience with Delphi and VB but this doesn't help at all :) Thank you, whoever and wherever you are, person who will take me out of this endless googling loop.

  • how to turn visual studio windows forms project into an application?

    - by Pieter888
    Hey everyone, I programmed an hour-sheet application and now I would like to publish it so people can install and run it. I've tried the publish function of visual studio 2008 but this gives me a clickOnce application/installer that's really confusing, but it works when I run it, but when I export the installer to another pc it installs it crashes at the end of the install. so I tried just coping the installed files but then the program crashes at startup. Is there a simple way to compile the application to a simple standalone executable or maybe containing a separate folder containing the resources (images/classes)?

  • In Ruby, is there a better way of selecting a constant (or avoiding the constant altogether) based o

    - by Vertis
    Not sure the title fully describes the problem/question I'm trying to ask, sorry. One of my fellow developers has created classes as such: class Widget attr_accessor :model_type ... end and: class ModelType MODEL1 = "model1" MODEL2 = "model2" MODEL3 = "model3" end Now he wants me to convert a retrieved string "MODEL1" to the constant. So that when he is referencing that model elsewhere he can use ModelType::MODEL1. Obviously I've got to convert from the string I'm being given with something like the following: case model_type when 'MODEL1' @model_type = ModelType::MODEL1 ... end I feel like this is clunky, so I'd like to know if there is a better DRYer way of providing this kind of functionality.

  • What features can I use during log in/out

    - by thecoshman
    I know that this question is going to be painfully vague, but here it is any way. I have made an small console application designed to be run on Windows XP Pro computers. It will be run at log in and log out. The command to run this program will be set via GPO and will include command line operators to control what data the program sends. I have used a few built in C# classes to find out information about the computer, which is then sent of to a server as a web request. I need to know which of the following will have issues on a restricted user account on a domain. Enviroment ManagementObjectSearcher ManagmentObjectCollection System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounter <-- side note, this class dosent seem to accept be saying using System.Diagnostics ComputerInfo WebRequest

  • Hibernate - Persisting polymorphic joins

    - by Marty Pitt
    Hi I'm trying to understand how to best implement a polymorphic one-to-many in hibernate. Eg: @MappedSuperclass public class BaseEntity { Integer id; // etc... } @Entity public class Author extends BaseEntity {} @Entity public class Post extends BaseEntity {} @Entity public class Comment extends BaseEntity {} And now, I'd like to also persist audit information, with the following class: @Entity public class AuditEvent { @ManyToOne // ? BaseEntity entity; } What is the appropriate mapping for auditEvent.entity? Also, how will Hibernate actually persist this? Would a series of join tables be generated (AuditEvent_Author , AuditEvent_Post, AuditEvent_Comment), or is there a better way? Note, I'd rather not have my other entity classes expose the other side of the join (eg., List<AuditEvent> events on BaseEntity) - but if that's the cleanest way to implement, then it will suffice.

  • Create an Action<T> to "set" a property, when I am provided with the LINQ Expression for the "get"

    - by Alex
    I'd like to be able to generate a compiled expression to set a property, given the lambda expression that provides the "get" method for a property. Here's what I'm looking for: public Action<int> CreateSetter<T>(Expression<Func<T, int>> getter) { // returns a compiled action using the details of the getter expression tree, or null // if the write property is not defined. } I'm still trying to understand the various types of Expression classes, so if you can point me in the right direction that would be great.

  • Class Members Over Exports

    - by VirusEcks
    When Using DLLs or Code-injecting to be Specific this is an example class only intended for explaining class test { int newint1; char newchararray[512]; void (*newfunction1)( int newarg1 ); int newfunction2( bool newarg1, char newarg2 ) { return newint1; } } mynewclass1; that covers most common elements that's included in classes now when exporting this function to another DLL or application and missed an element of those, either data member or function member, private or public what happens or changed their order ? and if each function is assigned it's value when Code-Injecting like mynewclass1.newfunction1 = (void *)(newexportedfunction); what's the happens in this case, if members of the class are pointers that are assigned after class construction and then missed one member or changed their order ?

  • Filtering SQLAlchemy query on attribute_mapped_collection field of relationship

    - by bsa
    I have two classes, Tag and Hardware, defined with a simple parent-child relationship (see the full definition at the end). Now I want to filter a query on Tag using the version field in Hardware through an attribute_mapped_collection, eg: def get_tags(order_code=None, hardware_filters=None): session = Session() query = session.query(Tag) if order_code: query = query.filter(Tag.order_code == order_code) if hardware_filters: for k, v in hardware_filters.iteritems(): query = query.filter(getattr(Tag.hardware, k).version == v) return query.all() But I get: AttributeError: Neither 'InstrumentedAttribute' object nor 'Comparator' object associated with Tag.hardware has an attribute 'baseband The same thing happens if I strip it back by hard-coding the attribute, eg: query.filter(Tag.hardware.baseband.version == v) I can do it this way: query = query.filter(Tag.hardware.any(artefact=k, version=v)) But why can't I filter directly through the attribute? Class definitions class Tag(Base): __tablename__ = 'tag' tag_id = Column(Integer, primary_key=True) order_code = Column(String, nullable=False) version = Column(String, nullable=False) status = Column(String, nullable=False) comments = Column(String) hardware = relationship( "Hardware", backref="tag", collection_class=attribute_mapped_collection('artefact'), ) __table_args__ = ( UniqueConstraint('order_code', 'version'), ) class Hardware(Base): __tablename__ = 'hardware' hardware_id = Column(Integer, primary_key=True) tag_id = Column(String, ForeignKey('tag.tag_id')) product_id = Column(String, nullable=True) artefact = Column(String, nullable=False) version = Column(String, nullable=False)

  • Using std::bad_alloc for C pointers

    - by otibom
    I'm using a library written in C in a C++ project. I'd like to use C++ exceptions to handle C errors. In particular, it would be nice to have an exception thrown if an allocation fails. I can do this in constructors of classes which hold C-style pointers to C structs : if (c_object == NULL) throw std::bad_alloc(); But if the class is responsible for several C objects they are no ways of free-ing all already allocated pointers since the destructor isn't called. I have a feeling I could use smart-pointers, but I don't have much experience with them. What's more, I have to have access to the original C pointers to use the C api properly. Is there an elegant solution to this ?

  • Extending appengine's db.Property with caching

    - by Noio
    I'm looking to implement a property class for appengine, very similar to the existing db.ReferenceProperty. I am implementing my own version because I want some other default return values. My question is, how do I make the property remember its returned value, so that the datastore query is only performed the first time the property is fetched? What I had is below, and it does not work. I read that the Property classes do not belong to the instances, but to the model definition, so I guess that the return value is not cached for each instance, but overwritten on the model every time. Where should I store this _resolved variable? class PageProperty(db.Property): data_type = Page def get_value_for_datastore(self, model_instance): page = super(PageProperty, self).get_value_for_datastore(model_instance) self._resolved = page return page.key().name() def make_value_from_datastore(self, value): if not hasattr(self, '_resolved'): self._resolved = Page.get_by_name(value) return self._resolved

  • Basic View Switch Code Crashes iPhone simulator

    - by Ouija
    I've been trying to switch two views from two separate view controllers for a while and it never works, the simulator always crashes to the home screen. I'm using Xcode 3.2.5 and this is my code - SwitchViewsViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "SecondViewController.h" @interface SwitchViewsViewController : UIViewController { } -(IBAction)pushButton; @end SwitchViewsViewController.m #import "SwitchViewsViewController.h" #import "SecondViewController.h" @implementation SwitchViewsViewController -(IBAction)pushButton { SecondViewController *screen = [[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil screen.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleCoverVertical; [self presentModalViewController:screen animated:YES] [screen release]; } SecondViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface SecondViewController : UIViewController { } -(IBAction)pushBack; @end SecondViewController.m #import "SecondViewController.h" @implementation SecondViewController -(IBAction)pushBack{ [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } In interface builder, all i've done is linked the file's owner classes and the buttons. Also made the SwitchViewsViewController load first, and not MainWindow. Everything builds but when I try to run the app it crashes and sends it to the home screen. Can anyone help me with this?

  • Unity and web service

    - by zachary
    I had this awesome idea... but I am afraid maybe it is actually a bad idea.... we use unity for dependency injection. I make interfaces from my web services using partial classes for the purpose of mocking and web services.... What I want to do is put my web services into unity and get them via dependency injection... What do you think? Is there too much overhead somewhere? Memory leaks? Is this a bad idea?

  • How to unload JVM from a living process?

    - by Guy
    Hi, I'm working with JNI and trying to unload (destroy) the VM using DestoryJavaVM function (I first call DetachCurrentThread method). It seems like the it has now influence on the VM and it is still up after the call. I read in old Sun posts that DestoryJavaVM had problems in the past (JDK1.1-1.3 in 2001) but I'm using JRE 6 and it probably should work now, right? I need to Load\Unload a VM in the same living process since each loading requires another classes to load. Any ideas how it can be done? Thanks, Guy

  • Java how to load modules

    - by gerardorn
    heres my problem: im building a server that loads modules. each module is a .jar file. inside the jar theres all the classes that the module need. the server needs to read the jar, find the main class (it doesnt have the main method on it is just the class that makes the module work but not as a different program), build an object of that class and store it in a vector of modules so that it can acces to a specific module depending on the job to be done. how can i do that? as far as the server, it is listening and reciving request, but thes no modules to delegate the job to, since my vector of modules is empty

  • Is there a server side API for Team Foundaion Server

    - by Ralph Shillington
    It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to server side API (ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

  • Need recommendation for object serialization library in c++

    - by michael
    Hi, I am looking for recommendation for object serialization/deserialization library in c++? Which one are the most advanced and open-sourced? Can it handle Any class that users defined? Object hierarchy (parent and child classes)? A Tree of objects? Class A has an attribute of Class B which has an attribute of Class C? STL containers? Class A has a vector of Class B? A cyclic of objects? Class A has a pointer pointing to B which has a pointer to A? I find boost serialization library. I am not sure what is its limitation from http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_42_0/libs/serialization/doc/tutorial.html

  • Beginner's Question about accessing mysql using OOP

    - by user345690
    I am reading the PHP and mySQL web development book and so far been doing all the PHP and mysql using procedural. But then it talks about accessing mysql with objects. This works for me: //I define $db so can connect $query="select * FROM testing"; $result=mysqli_query($db,$query); while($row=mysqli_fetch_array($result)){ //echo the data } But when I try to do it with classes, it doesn't $query="select * FROM testing"; $result=$db->query($query); $row=$result->fetch_assoc(); Do I have to write my own class so it defines what query and fetch_assoc does? Or what?

  • CSS - Why am I not able to set height and width of <a href> elements?

    - by Kenny Bones
    Hi, I'm trying to create css buttons by using the following html markup: <a href="access.php" class="css_button_red">Forgot password</a> But it ends up being not bigger than the text in the middle. Even though I've set the class's height and width. You can preview the problem here btw, www.matkalenderen.no Notice the first button, that's a form button and it's using it's own class. At first I tried to use the same class on the css button as well and the same problem appeared, so I tried to separate them into their own classes. In case there was some kind of crash. But it didn't matter anyway. What am I missing here?

  • Which destructor is called when in C++?

    - by BastiBechtold
    I am hunting memory leaks in a program. I narrowed it down to some destructors not being called. However, I can't figure out why: class CMain : public CList { public: CMain(); virtual ~CMain(); ... } class CList : public CProc { public: CList(); virtual ~CList(); ... } CMain gets deallocated just fine, but ~CList() is never called. All parent classes of CList have virtual destructors, too. Do you have any hints about why the destructor for CList is never called?

  • Polymorphic behavior not being implemented

    - by Garrett A. Hughes
    The last two lines of this code illustrate the problem: the compiler works when I use the reference to the object, but not when I assign the reference to an array element. The rest of the code is in the same package in separate files. BioStudent and ChemStudent are separate classes, as well as Student. package pkgPoly; public class Poly { public static void main(String[] arg) { Student[] stud = new Student[3]; // create a biology student BioStudent s1 = new BioStudent("Tom"); // create a chemistry student ChemStudent s2 = new ChemStudent("Dick"); // fill the student body with studs stud[0] = s0; stud[1] = s1; // compiler complains that it can't find symbol getMajor on next line System.out.println("major: " + stud[0].getMajor() ); // doesn't compile; System.out.println("major: " + s0.getMajor() ); // works: compiles and runs correctly } }

  • Understanding reflection

    - by sdmiller
    I recently started work at a new company and a .net web application we have is built using reflection. I have only been out of school for a year and haven't worked with this concept. After studying the code... it looks like there is a single backend interface of type object that has about 20 classes that inherit from it. lots of generic gets and sets On the surface it looks like standard inheritance to me. I guess my question is, what makes this reflection? Is it because the interface is not strongly typed? Thanks

  • does class/object models have a out-of-the-box equivalent to a database foreign key constraint

    - by Greg
    Hi, Does does class/object models have a out-of-the-box equivalent to a database foreign key constraint? Assume the language is C# please. That is say Class A has a field that references Class B and vica-versa. If I have Object A & B (instantiated from these classes) what happens if I delete Object B? Does it auto-delete or throw a constraint issue if it still exists in Object A as a reference? That is, for this scenario is there a way to ensure when a Object A is delete that either (a) object B is delete like a cascade delete, or (b) a constraint exception is thrown as the expectation is that the reference in Class B should be non-null?
