  • How to map a virtual directory to a website in VS?

    I am developing a C# VS 2008 website, trying to add a Master file. I created a virtual directory in IIS housing the "Master" folder, containing the Master files. Now how do I reference these files from my website in VS? One problem is I do not know where I need to publish this Master folder to. Other problem is I do not know how to reference this Master file in my aspx Page directive. FYI, this master folder is physically located outside of c:\inetpub\ in a totally separate file location. Is this a problem?

  • Project Reference added to one of the projects in the same solution appears broken in another solution

    I have couple of solutions. In the first solution I have many projects. One of the project named 'A' has a project reference of another project 'B' of the same solution. In second solution, the project 'A' is added but not the project 'B'. Both the solutions build successfully. However, in second solution, reference of B added in the project A, appears broken. Why? Now, in first solution, instead of adding Project reference of B into A, i simply add a 'file reference' of B's DLL (which is copied at the common output directory created for all the projects) into A. Now the reference appears broken in both the solution even though both the solutions are built successfully. May I know what should I do when I have such a scenario?

  • UDP: Client started before Server

    I have a bit of a glitch in my game just now, everything runs fine if the server is started before the client however when the client is started before the server they never connect. This is all UDP The problem happens when the client tries to call recvfrom() before the server has started, when this happens the client never finds the server and the server never finds the client. The resulted error is a wouldblock. If I stop the client using recvfrom and start the client before the server (the client is still sending data its just not receiving it) they both find each other no problem. Whats the solution for this? The way its seems just now is that the client cannot call recvfrom without a server being active or it all falls apart. Is there a check that can be done to see if data is sitting on a certain port(data the server would send)? Or is there a better way to do this? Some Code...     i'm trying to run a conditional statement in a class i'm placing in my App_Code folder the condition is whether the person is logged in or not. I normally have two ways to do this in my masterpage and ASPX's if (!User.IsAuthenticated) or if(Profile.username = "anonymous") however neither of these things seem available to me in the .cs i'm making. anyone know what i'm missing? maybe a using namespace up top?

    I am trying to find a lib file that I created. I changed the configuration type to static lib. Then I rebuild the application. When I go to the debug folder in windows, I see the .lib file. but when I create a new application and try to add it to "additional Library Directories" I go to the exact folder and it does not show up.

  • switch easily between different main()

    I'm using VS2010 I have a project with several headers and one file with the main() function. For testing purposes I'd like to be able to easily another main() function that would instanciate different things than my original main. Is there an easy way to define 2 "main" function, and easily switch between them? The best would be to compile 2 binaries, one that starts at main1() and the other at main2(), or it can be a solution that requires to recompile some files, it doesn't matter

  • C#: How to unit test a method that relies on another method within the same class?

    I have a class similar to the following: public class MyProxy : ClientBase<IService>, IService { public MyProxy(String endpointConfiguration) : base(endpointConfiguration) { } public int DoSomething(int x) { int result = DoSomethingToX(x); //This passes unit testing int result2 = ((IService)this).DoWork(x) //do I have to extract this part into a separate method just //to test it even though it's only a couple of lines? //Do something on result2 int result3 = result2 ... return result3; } int IService.DoWork(int x) { return base.Channel.DoWork(x); } } The problem lies in the fact that when testing I don't know how to mock the result2 item without extracting the part that gets result3 using result2 into a separate method. And, because it is unit testing I don't want to go that deep as to test what result2 comes back as... I'd rather mock the data somehow... like, be able to call the function and replace just that one call.

    Hi, I have developed some ASP.NET controls in .NET 2.0 with VS 2008. Now, I upgraded my project to VS 2010 but did not change the target framework to .NET 4.0 yet. But, surprisingly, I found that, the toolbox is not showing the bitmaps for the control added to the toolbox in VS 2010. Moreover, when I dragged and dropped a control (.NET 2.0) from the toolbox to my Web Form, I see some junk xml code added to my web form. I dont know if I need to recompile the .NET 2.0 controls with VS 2010 ? or what should I do in order to make the controls compatible for both in VS 2008 and VS 2010 ? I found that, there is no problem with Windows Forms control, rather it is just with ASP.NET Controls.

    Similar to this question. I would like to find all commented files. But in my case /* */ is a possibility. Apparently when you write changes to a database project, dropped objects are only commented out instead of deleting the file. I would like to remove all of these commented out files from the project. Is is possible to find all files which start with /* and end with */?

  • Linking Error Building 64bit Qt app on 32bit XP machine.

    I'm trying to build a 64 bit version of my application (and yes I really do need the memory) on my 32bit xp dev box for production testing on our Vista64 server. Previously, I have built w/o any errors the Qt 4.6.2 DLL's in 64 bit mode. That step went vary smooth. Just to get started in building production, I'm trying to rebuild Qt's Star Delegate demo in 64bit mode. I converted the 32bit to 64bit app by changing the application configuration and adjusting the library's to the 64bit venisons. Now, when I go to link, I'm getting the following error when I link 1>------ Build started: Project: stardelegate, Configuration: Release x64 ------ 1>Linking... 1>MSVCRT.lib(crtexew.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol WinMain 1>release64\stardelegate.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals Suggestions? edit - After some more searching, discovered if I link as a console app it will work and run. But not as a windows app. And I don't have this problem in 32 bit mode.

    I noticed that .NET framework uses formatting functions, generated the same way localizable string are. There is a resource file Resources.resx with resource string TestString. So you may use it in code like this: string localizableValue = Resources.TestString; Now, imagine you need a formattable localizable string, to use it in string.Format function. So everytime you use it, you have to write something like this: string localizableFormattedValue = string.Format(Resources.TestFormatString, someParam1, someParam2); The observation says that in .NET framework generated resource classes already include the above construction. So instead of string property, a string function is generated. The resulting code looks like this: string localizableFormattedValue = Resources.TestFormatString(someParam1, someParam2); The question is - how do they do this?     hi, I'm trying to create a query in an access database for a C# dataset using the query editor but the created method says there is a problem and isn't created correctly. SELECT Discs.* FROM Discs WHERE (Title=@Title OR @Title IS NULL) AND (Type=@Type OR @Type IS NULL) AND (ContainerID=@ContainerID OR @ContainerID IS NULL) AND NOT (@Title IS NULL AND @Type IS NULL AND @ContainerID IS NULL) the error is: Generated SELECT statement. Error in WHERE clause near '@'. Unable to parse query text. the generated select method doesn't have any parameters and is unusable. I've tried the exact same SQL statement in the access query and it worked flawlessly, what am I supposed to be doing differently when transferring it to C#?
