• Is there an easy way of obtaining the total page response time in ASP.Net?

  Hello, commonly on say PHP or other web frameworks getting the total response time is easy, just start the timer at the top of the file and stop it at the end. In ASP.Net there is the whole Page Lifecycle bit though so I'm not sure how to do this. I would like for this response time recording to take place in a master page and the response time show up in the footer of pages. What would be the best way of doing this? Is there something built in to ASP.Net for it? Is it even possible to include the OnRender time?

  Hi, My local airport disgracefully blocks users without IE, and looks awful. I want to write a Python scripts that would get the contents of the Arrival and Departures pages every few minutes, and show them in a more readable manner. My tools of choice are mechanize for cheating the site to believe I use IE, and BeautifulSoup for parsing page to get the flights data table. Quite honestly, I got lost in the BeautifulSoup documentation, and can't understand how to get the table (whose title I know) from the entire document, and how to get a list of rows from that table. Any ideas? Adam

• Scraping paginated items from a website using scrapy

  I'm using scrapy to scrape items from a site. I'm not being able to implement this scraping pattern. The site I'm trying to scrape is a forum and I scrape the site once a day. Each page has a table containing posts. New posts are added to the top of the table and as more and more posts are posted to the site, the older posts go further into the pages due to pagination. This is a very simple scenario and we will assume that the order of the posts never change. I would like to scrape this site and scrape all the "new" records until the last scraped post from yesterday is encountered. I have configured my spider to paginate endlessly and when it encounters yesterday's last scraped post, it should stop. How can implement this? (My Scrapy installation works with my Django installation using django-dynamic-scraper )

  I would like to run a symfony project on a zeus webserver, however i cannot get the rewrite rules to work. • Strange menu issue

  Just started out with Orchard and trying to just make pages and menus. I'm running into an issue where on my home page my menu shows: Home, Fruit, Vegetable, Carrot. I want it to show just Home, Fruit, Vegetable and when I click the respective item it adds the proper tabs. It DOES do it with Banana. ie: When I click Fruit, it shows Banana in the menu. But it always shows Carrot for some reason! I have the following setup. Navigation -Main Menu --Home --Fruit --Vegetable -Fruit Menu --Banana -Vegetable Menu --Carrot Widgits > Navigation > Main Menu, Fruit Menu, Vegetable Menu (Fruit and Vegetable Menus are in their own respective layers.) Path Examples: /Fruit, /Fruit/Banana, /Vegetable, /Vegetable/Carrot Thanks in advance.

• Refresh a jQuery function

  Is possible refresh a function every x seconds or refresh it on single event? I explain: I have a function that make pagination on my website, inside every div that are "pages" I have some pictures where I have added LightBox. Everything works nice on the first div (page) but when I change the page it doesnt' work anymore. I tried to fix in this way: $('.pagination a').click(function () { initShadow(); }); In this way it work on the pageLoad and on the first page that I change, than it stop again. So I need to fix this issue, everytime I change the "page" I would like it works fine. Is possible to refresh a function every x second or to refresh it everytime I click on the pagination buttons?

• What are the lesser known but cool data structures ?

  There a some data structures around that are really cool but are unknown to most programmers. Which are they? Everybody knows linked lists, binary trees, and hashes, but what about Skip lists, Bloom filters for example. I would like to know more data structures that are not so common, but are worth knowing because they rely on great ideas and enrich a programmer's tool box. PS: I am also interested on techniques like Dancing links which make interesting use of the properties of a common data structure. EDIT: Please try to include links to pages describing the data structures in more detail. Also, try to add a couple of words on why a data structures is cool (as Jonas Kölker already pointed out). Also, try to provide one data-structure per answer. This will allow the better data structures to float to the top based on their votes alone.

• Java String Replace and null characters

  Testing out someone elses code (of course it was ...) , I noticed a few JSP pages printing funky non-ascii characters. Taking a dip into the source I found this tidbit. // remove any periods from first name e.g. Mr. John --> Mr John firstName = firstName.trim().replace('.','\0'); Does replacing a character in a String with a null character even work in Java? I know that '\0' will terminate a c-string. Would this be the culprit to the funky characters? Thanks PR

• Context module for block visibility

  I have a site built in Drupal 6 that requires a number of blocks that are only visible to certain roles or on specific pages. Normally, I would use the block configuration settings to control page and role visibility. However I recently ran across the context module that effectively splits the site into "sections" or "groups" of related attributes. My question is: When is it appropriate to control block visibility from context rather than the block configuration settings? Should I only use one or the other or a combination of both?

• 2 different php request at same time per user

  I have a website which has 2 pages , (home_page.php and action_page.php)Action page takes aprx. 2 minutes to completely load (server side takes 2 minutes) . But if user clicks to home page link while action page is loading , browser does not go to home page , until action page is completely loaded . First of all what is the reason of this ?   I was writing a simple Grails app and I have a spot in a gsp where one of my java beans in modified. <g:each in="${myList}" status="i" var="myVar"> // if the user performs some view action, update one of the myVar elements </g:each> This works, but I don't think it's quite threadsafe. myList is an http request variable but in cases of pages that use ajax (or other client side manipulations), it is possible for two threads to be modifying the same request scope variable The Spring AbstractController class provides a setSynchronizeOnSession method. Does grails provide any equivalent functionality? If not, what's the best way to protect this non-threadsafe mutation? thanks, Jeff

  Hopefully a simple question: I've a plugin which uses a set of tables (kb_items, kb_item_tags, etc). and I'd like to be able to access these models from another controller (say, my Pages controller), thus: class PagesController extends AppController{ function knowledgebase(){ $items = $this->KbItem->findAll(...); } } I am admittedly breaking the rules a little (by not placing this controller inside the knowledge base plugin), but this in this case its a custom page that doesn't need to be part of the knowledge base plugin code base. • Stream post URL security and wall post links

  Our app's mobile client can create wall post links to our app's web-facing pages. Since this happens in the context of a mobile app, we do this on behalf of our user using the Graph API's feed/message endpoint. I noticed that the links showing up in the wall posts are being routed through our app's auth dialog, which is NOT what we want. We just want transparent links, without forcing the client to auth our app, similar to what happens when you share to FB in Path. I went ahead and disabled the "Stream post URL option" several hours ago, but we still seem to be getting the re-routed links for wall posts. The target URLs for these links are within the domain we've registered for our Facebook app. Is there anything else I need to do fix this?

• Redirecting user from an old web to another in Sharepoint

  Hi all: I want to add the ability to redirect users when they visit certain old sites. The URL of the old sites are unknown, but the server name is the same, e.g. Old site url: http://sharepoint/mySite/default.aspx New site url: http://sharepoint/myNewSite/... There are a lot of other pages within mySite, most of which must be redirected to the new site, but there are exceptions (e.g. user can still view the documents within the site). I thought I have to do this programmatically by somehow capturing the http request and read the url myself. Being no sharepoint guru, I had a quick google, and found that writing a web part is prehaps the best alternative for my situation. But I'm just wondering, given my situation and needs, is writing a web part, or something programmatically, really the ideal solution? Or is there a faster and quicker way to achieve what I want using Sharepoint? Thanks.

I tried inserting into the second div, which makes it work well in IE8 but not IE6. • My site not directing links correctly.

  I have a site at http://badassmonkeys.com/ and when i click any of the links it does not direct it to the actual page but still pulls up the link. For some reason it works perfectly on linux cpanel and actually loads the pages, but on windows in apache, or in IIS even with a rewrite mod for it, it just doesnt work. The links dont go correctly. Is it a php.ini setting? This is my htaccess file if curious, but it works perfect in linux, but not on windows....   Hi all I have a couple of pages in my site which open in a shadowbox window rather than the main window. My problem is that if the user session expires, then the user clicks on one of the links that open in a shadowbox, they are redirected to the login page INSIDE THE SHADOWBOX, which i don't want. I've been trying to think of the best way to handle this - one way i thought of, which seems a bit clumsy tbh, was on the login page to test if we're in a shadowbox, and if we are then close it and redirect the parent window to the login page. a) does this seem like a sensible plan? I added the following to my login page, which works: $(document).ready(function(){ if(window.parent.location != window.location){ window.parent.location.href = window.location; } } but i have to wait for the shadowbox to finish loading the page and then redirect. So it's working but like i say a bit clumsy. Is there a nicer way? grateful for any advice - max

• CakePHP: Same model, set up per form validation rules?

  I have a single model in CakePHP that has multiple forms on different pages of the site that I would like to validate differently even where the field name is the same - I have discovered that you can set 'on' to create|update which has been a handy discovery but I am wondering if there is any other way of explicitly declaring rules based on the form that was submitted? Just to rephrase for clarity, form a and form b contain fields of the same name, but if form a is submitted the fields in question should be validated differently than if they were submitted from form b. Possible?

• How to achieve table like rows within container using CSS

  I'm helping an artist maintain her website and have inherited some pretty outdated code. Have moved lots of redundant common code to include files and am now working on moving from inline styles to more CSS-driven styles. For the gallery pages, e.g. http://artistsatlaketahoe.com/abstract.html, a lot of inline styling is used to force the current layout. My preference would be to replace this entirely with CSS that presents the following table-like layout within the "content" div: [image] [image descriptives and purchase button] [image] [image descriptives and purchase button] [image] [image descriptives and purchase button] I'd like to middle-align the image descriptives & purchase button relative to the image if possible. And then apply some padding above and below each row to stop using tags for vertical spacing. Any ideas how to create a div that I can use to get this kind of layout? Thanks!

• PyDev and Django: how to restart dev server?

  I'm new to Django. I think I'm making a simple mistake. I launched the dev server with Pydev: RClick on project Django Custom command runserver The server came up, and everything was great. But now I'm trying to stop it, and can't figure out how. I stopped the process in the PyDev console, and closed Eclipse, but web pages are still being served from http://127.0.0.1:8000. I launched and quit the server from the command line normally: python manage.py runserver But the server is still up. What am I doing wrong here?

• Directly embedding JPEGs in an HTML file

  I can embed a mime encoded JPEG in an html page by saving the page from IE using the File-SaveAs menu and selecting (Web Archive, single file (*.mht)). Renaming this .mht file with .eml enables Outlook to open it and send an HTML email. My questions are: How can I embed JPEG images directly in HTML pages (no external files). Are the images just mime encoded inline in the HTML? It appears that this is IE specific. Do any other browsers support this functionality?

• Do controls need to be defined in a web app or will .NET do it for you

  I always thought that when you dropped a control onto an .aspx page that a declaration of that control ended up being generated for you (either in a designer file, or within your code behind). All of the apps I have worked on have worked this way. A coworker of mine was installing resharper and it was showing that all her code behind pages would not build. Turned out that resharper could not find a definition for any control that she has dropped onto her markup. She has no designer files, and no declarations in markup. Do they get automatically built when putting together the partial classes? Is there an option at that page/project level to instruct .NET to do this for you? Is this a difference between web app and web site? This is a a .NET 3.5 site, C#, and it is running in a production environment. Thanks in advance

• getting 502 proxy error while parsing

  Iam parsing a page and im getting response from that but after some time i.e. after some of the parsing gets done i get this error from the server - Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request GET /file.php. Reason: Error reading from remote server and after this my parsing fails. I even tried sleep() function but it didnt helped and the error still came. Are they temporarily blocking my ip or what?? What could be the reason for this and how can i parse those pages without getting this error and all ???
