• Java .split() Method To Split XML Parameters

  I have this line from an XML document: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <svg xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" contentScriptType="text/ecmascript" width="1024" zoomAndPan="magnify" contentStyleType="text/css" viewBox="0 0 1024 768" height="768" preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" version="1.0"> I want to be able to split it up, using the split method. For example i want to save each parameter into a String array. So i'd like: contentScriptType="text/ecmascript" width="1024" zoomAndPan="magnify" contentStyleType="text/css" viewBox="0 0 1024 768" height="768" etc etc to be saved into a string array, is there anyway to do this using the split method, or can anybody suggest an easier, more efficient way to do this?

• Java simple encryption

  Hello, I would like to encrypt a textual (configuration) file stored on disk. Trying to use DES encryption I've had fatal error on client machines, I later found out caused because the algorithm could not handle accented characters (!) I suspect that was because I was using old packages (sun.misc.BASE64Decoder) - but I'm not sure that is the reason. However, I'm looking for a simpler solution - I need a really simple encryption (I know some people would not agree on that) - not RSA of 128 bit keys or so, just obscuring the text from curious eyes. It is really weird that I could not find on the web a simple trivial solution. Any idea, anyone ? Thanks, Ran

• How do I run different threads in Java?

  Hey. I'm having some problems with threads. I understand how they work, but since they all use the same method, how do I run different threads that do completely different things, but at the same time? To me, it seems that they always use the same standard method which makes them do the same thing. So, let's say I have a big .txt file where I want to go through each line and do something to the line. In this case, I would like to have each thread do 1/10th of the .txt file, but I don't understand how the threads can communicate with each other, and how they could organize so each thread does the right part? Could anyone explain or help me with this? Would be very much appreciated!

  I've never used distributed caches/DHTs like memcached, jboss cache, ehcache, etc. I'm wondering which, if any, is appropriate for my use. First, I'm not doing web applications (as most of these project seem to be geared towards web apps). I write servers (Order Management Systems actually) for financial trading firms. The servers themselves are not too complicated. They need to receive information (market data, orders, executions, etc.) rout them to their destination while possibly transforming some of these messages. I am looking at these products to solve the following problems: * Safe repository of the state of the server. I'd rather build the logic of my application as a bunch of transformers (similar to Apache Camel) and store the state in a 'safe' place * This repository should be distributed: in case one of these data stores crashes, one or two more should be up and I should be able to switch to them seamlessly * This repository should be fast. Single digits milliseconds count here, in other words, systems which consume/process this data are automated systems, not humans clicking on links. This system needs to have high-throughput and low latency. By sending my data outside the process, I am necessarily slowing performance, but I am trying to balance absolute raw speed and absolute protection of data. * This repository should be safe. Similar to the point about several on-line backups, this system needs to write data to disk (potentially more than one disk). I'd really like to stop writing my own 'transaction servers.' Am I correct to be looking into projects such as jboss cache, ehcache, etc.? Thanks

• Null Pointer Exception on a 2D array (Java)

  I have a class, "Tetris", in which one of the instance variables is "board". "board" is 2D array of Color objects. • Java JEditorPane Format

  im trying to implement a Chat feature in my application. i have used 2 JEditorPane. one for holding chat history and the other for sending chat to the previous JEditorPane. the JEditorPane is text/html type. the problem i am having is when i put more than one space between characters it is automatically removed by the parser because it is HTML! how can i make it so, that the spaces are not stripped? example: hello world becomes: hello world. also i am having to parse the html tags so the new messages can be added to the history window. is there a better option than using JEditorPane? if i used JTextPane would it be easier to implement? i would like the chat boxes/panes to be able to handle bold, URL embedding for now. thank you and look forward to your guidance.

• Java Timers - Functions called not completing!

  So I have a TimerTask task calling a function onTimerComplete() in its run() onTimerComplete() looks something like this: private void onTimerComplete(){ myFunc1(); myFunc2(); } I make a Timer t and I schedule the TimerTask with t.schedule(task, 2000); The problem is, when the timer is up and the task runs my onTimerComplete() but that function does not finish. It runs myFunc1() but never finishes it nor does it ever call myFunc2() However, if I call onTimerComplete() directly, everything works. What's the deal here?

• "Fix" String encoding in Java

  I have a String created from a byte[] array, using UTF8 encoding. However, it should have been created using another encoding (windows-1252). Is there a way to convert this string back to the right encoding? I know it's easy to do if you have access to the original byte array, but it my case it's too late because it's given by a closed source library. Thanks, Nico

• How do I get the java.concurrency.CyclicBarrier to work as expected

  I am writing code that will spawn two thread and then wait for them to sync up using the CyclicBarrier class. Problem is that the cyclic barrier isn't working as expected and the main thread doesnt wait for the individual threads to finish.   Let's say I have array of bytes: byte[] arr = new byte[] { 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 }; Does platform has functions that I can use to play with this array - for example, how to invert it (get 4,3,2,1,0)? Or, how to invert part of it (2,1,0,3,4)? Get part of array (0,1,2,3)? I know I can manually write functions but I am curious if I'm missing useful util functions in platform that I should know about (and couldn't find any useful guide using google). Thanks!

• Java & Maven generating -and using- my own archetype

  Hello again! I have been busy in my project creating a webapp (in struts) that manages maven, using maven-2.2.1-uber.jar link text. The problem comes when the boss says it has to use some archetypes the company has created (so no predefined archetypes for you naughty boy!). So ok, I use the -DarchetypeRepository option (with ServletWrapper I get my complete web direction, becouse the repository will be inside the app), and the log seems to find it, but then the build fails -miserably- with this little text 'Build Failure - The defined artifact is not an archetype' as simple as that. Of course I have a lot of INFO lines that say abslutily nothig related. I have read the maven definitive guide searching for some kind of help, but it has been disapointing at best. My thoughts are thatmaybe I am missing in somewhere of all the folders tree some xml that actually sais maven that my pom.xml is an archetype not a project. But I really, really, can't find anything on the net or in the manuals that explains easy-handed how the archetype:generate (with special parameters) works and where I have to put every folder and/or file. So just to say my thoughts aloud (and hopefully you understand what I am trying to ask): I have a template where I do some xml changes (variables, etc...), then I have to call maen and do an archetype:generate with a variable project. The problem seems to be that my actual confuguration doesn't like what I am doing. After the generation of the archetype, witch luckly will create some directory trees and leave me a POM.xml somewhere I still have to do some variable changes and more xml manage stuff, so it whould be very kind from maven to don't destroy anything in this process. Any ideas why this maven-thing is not happly-ever-after asuming that my archetype is defintly an archetype? Allthought I think the code is ok, it could be wrong, as I am using maven-ubber and I call the actual CSMavenCli.main(String[, ClassWorld), I don't think it is the case this time.   Hello World, I have an assignment and i got a library including an interface class. [InfoItem] I implement this class [Item]. Now i am required to write a method watchProgram(InfoItem item) [other class, importing InfoItem], which (as shown) requires an InfoItem. The passed parameter item has a variable 'Recorded' [boolean] which i want to edit using a method changeRecorded() that i defined in the implementation of InfoItem. I cannot edit the interface and i get an error message that the method is not found [cannot find symbol].. Any hints, suggestions, solutions? Thanks!! -Samuel-

Then comes the myArray[1], its split into two parts then the second part overrides the value of the first(how do I know that?). I've overridden toString() method of myObject, when I finish I print the set values so I know that it overrides it, does anybody know how can I fix this?

I know how to parse out the elements and all of those details, but can someone show me a sample of how to structure my ContentHandler to allow for the above algorithm? Thanks!

  Hi, first time poster, long time reader so be gentle with me :) See the following code which works to generate me timestamps for the beginning and end of every month in a financial year. int year = 2010; // Financial year runs from Sept-Aug so earlyMonths are those where year = FY-1 and lateMonths are those where year = FY int[] earlyMonths = {8, 9, 10, 11}; // Sept to Dec int earlyYear = year -1; for (int i : earlyMonths) { month = i; Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cal.clear(); cal.set(earlyYear,month,1,0,0,0); Long start = cal.getTimeInMillis(); cal.clear(); cal.set(earlyYear,month,1); lastDayofMonth = cal.getActualMaximum(GregorianCalendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); cal.set(earlyYear,month,lastDayofMonth,23,59,59); Long end = cal.getTimeInMillis(); } int[] lateMonths = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7}; // Jan to Aug for (int i : lateMonths) { month = i; Calendar cal = Calendar.getInstance(); cal.clear(); cal.set(year,month,1,0,0,0); Long start = cal.getTimeInMillis(); cal.clear(); cal.set(year,month,1); lastDayofMonth = cal.getActualMaximum(GregorianCalendar.DAY_OF_MONTH); cal.set(year,month,lastDayofMonth,23,59,59); Long end = cal.getTimeInMillis(); } So far so good, but in order to use these results I need these timestamps to be output to variables named by month (to be used in a prepared statement later in the code. e.g. SeptStart = sometimestamp, SeptEnd = some timestamp etc etc. I don't know if it is possible to declare new variables based on the results of each loop. Any ideas?
