  • Can Capistrano set variables based on a role?

    I am trying to use Capistrano to deploy to two different roles, using Bundler on both, however the Bundler command and flags will be different. Is it possible to set variables that are specific to a role? Either something like: set :bundle_flags, "--deployment --quiet", :role => "web" or: role :web do set :bundler_cmd, "--deployment --quiet" end Neither of those two options work, of course. Is there a way to accomplish this, or something like it?

  • In rails whats the best way to get the site that a user came from? I am getting conflicting info.

    If i enter a url directly into the address bar of the browser, i get the following results: logger.debug ENV['HTTP_REFERER'] // => logger.debug request.referrer // => / So the first one gives me a blank result which is what I expected but the second gives me the root? Is this correct? It seems from the docs (http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/AbstractRequest.html#M000478) that they should return the same thing. And secondly, why does it return the root, if there was no referrer.

    I want to be able to edit and delete resources myself, but not allow users of the application to do so. Is there an easy way of doing this in Rails? An incomplete solution would be just to remove the "delete" and "edit" buttons from the index view, but that doesn't disable their ability to do so via direct HTTP requests. Running Rails 2.2.2 and ruby 1.8.7

  • MSBUILD ClickOnce Error: Deployment and application do not have matching security zones

    We're trying to publish a ClickOnce application through msbuild. We've got it working fine for an installed version of the windows application. However, when we set install to false so that it just runs the app from the web we get the following error when we try to run the application from the URL: "Deployment and application do not have matching security zones" This works fine in IE. We only get the error message in Chrome and FireFox.   • Clickonce installation fails after addition of WCF service project

    So I have a winform solution, deployed via clickonce. Eveything worked fine until i added a WCF project. (see error in parsing the manifest file at end of post) Now I notice that MSBuild compiles the service into a _PublishedWebsites dir. I don't know what the need for this is, but I am suspecting this is the cause of the problem. This wcf project references some other projects within the solution. I am actually hosting the wcf service within the application so I don't really need MSBuild to do all this for me.   • Ruby on rails gems and win 7

    I have a networked home share (at work). This is my HOMEPATH,HOMESHARE,etc. When I installed the rails gem and other the .gems folder was created there (which is on a network drive) and consequently any code that needs a gem or a gem lookup is slow. And I'm wondering which environment variables need to be corrected. I've googled this but most results are dealing with cygwin so any ideas? Thanks

  • WDS "No response" only when notify and wait for approval

    I have a WDS server setup for use with MDT2010, and everything was working fine until this morning. Now, whenever I try to boot from LAN, I get an error: Downloaded WDSNBP... Architecture: x64 WDSNBP started using DHCP Referral. Contacting Server: 10.50.10.12 (Gateway: 0.0.0.0) No response from Windows Deployment Services server. Launching pxeboot.com My PXE Response Policy setting on the WDS is set to this: [ ] Do not respond to any client computer [ ] Respond only to known client computers [o] Respond to all (known and unknown) client computers [X] For unknown clients, notify administrator and respond after approval The odd thing is that if I clear the approval option (so any computer gets a response) it works fine. I have delegated permissions on the AD OU to the computer object WDS is running on, but that doesn't seem to have helped. As it works without approval, I can only assume my DHCP options are fine and this is some sort of AD permission problem. (Server is Windows Server 2008 SP2)

    I have a number of VirtualHosts config files controlling sites served on Ubuntu server using Apache. I'm writing a ruby script to parse these files, and then display information about the site being hosted. One of the things I'd like to do is display a user friendly name for each site for easier identification, rather than relying on ServerName, or ServerAlias, to determine the site name. Does anyone know of an Apache configuration directive that exists for this purpose, or for displaying other related meta information about a config file, or will I have to use comments rather than a directive instead?   • Operation not permitted when starting Unicorn

    I've created an nginx/unicorn/capistrato setup on Ubuntu (Amazon EC2) by following mostly this guide. I guess everything is set up like it should but when I start Unicorn I get (a LOT of) this error in the log: E, [2012-09-08T08:57:20.658092 #12356] ERROR -- : Operation not permitted (Errno::EPERM) /home/deployer/apps/bridgekalenderen.no/shared/bundle/ruby/1.9.1/gems/unicorn-4.3.1/lib/unicorn/worker.rb:82:in `initgroups' I see it's related to the user's permissions but I just can't figure out what I've left out. The server starts up nicely if I start it with sudo (or, rvmsudo, really). The user has sudo capabilities, I have chmod'ed the app several times so the file permissions there should be ok. The unicorn socket in /tmp is owned by the deployer user, so that shouldn't be the problem either. Does anybody have a clue where to look?

The other solutions are all either to expense or do not provide the solution I'm looking for. This led me to look at some open source options including: http://apiaxle.com/ https://code.google.com/p/varnish-apikey/wiki/UsageManual Varnish seems like a fairly complete solution, however I would need to build a GUI to visualise the data. My final option would to build a solution from scratch using EventMachine and ruby. Any advice?

  • Mysql out of disk space

    I have just finished developing a rails app which has a mysql db as a backend. The app is meant for high traffic and will store lots of information. I am planning to set up my own web server and host the site from it. If in future my disk space runs out i would want to expand by adding more space. But say if my mysql database is housed in my /disk0s1 and by adding a new drive i have more partitions (and hence more disk space), how then would i extend my database to store information on those partitions too, and at the same time prevent any information from being written on the original partition. Should i go for multiple databases? if so how? If i went for a hosting solution i wouldn't be bothering about this as i would just have to worry about making payments for the extra space :) I always wondered how space is added on-the-go by these webhosts. Is there any specific mysql configuration that i have to make?

  • Can I shorten my directory commands in ubuntu?

    When working on a rails app I like to open all of my files through the command line like so cd my_app gedit app/views/user/show.html.erb Is there a way that I could shorten this so that I could just write something like gedit user_views/show.html.erb ? I would like the console to stay in the main directory, I just don't like having to type out app/controller/user_controler.rb every time I want to open the user controller. I know that I could just open the file with my mouse, but I feel like moving from keyboard to mouse breaks my focus a little bit. When I can just tap away at the keyboard it seems like I have a more smooth workflow.

    Just for clarity, I already posted this on StackOverflow and got advice that this better fits in ServerFault.com so here goes: I know you can redirect subdomains to a different server, but can you do the same with folders? Say I have example.com. I can redirect mysubdomain.example.com to a different server, but can I redirect example.com/mysubdomain to a different server? I'd like to host a rails app in that folder on a site that runs php while still maintaining good search engines ratings (by not creating a sub domain which in my experience in recognized as a different site). Any help? Thanks!

  • How to make sure my GPO are applied in the correct order

    I'm deploying VMware player through a GPO, and I'd like to apply specific ACLs to the install folder, and to the D:\VMWARE folder I'm creating during the player install. I also have to add the vmware user account the "can log on locally" right. To do so, I've created a GPO whose scope is the same as my Vmware player install GPO. This GPO works well, BUT when applied at the same time as my deployment GPO, it seems to be applied before the deploy GPO, and then : - Cannot find the vmware user account - Cannot find the c:\program files\vmware folder - Cannot find the D:\vmware folder because none of them have already been created by the vmware player install. And the only way for me to apply my security GPO is to execute gpudate /force command manually, which i don't want to use (it's supposed to be an automatic install) I've checked the gpo processing order, my security GPO should be applied AFTER my install GPO (security GPO is number 1, deploy GPO is number to), but it don't seem to be the case. Does anyone got an idea to solve this ?

  • SASL (Postfix) authentication with MySQL and Blowfish pre-encrypted passwords

    I have a Rails app with the Devise authentication gem running user registration and login. I want to use the db table that Devise populates when a user registers as the table that Postfix uses to authenticate users. The table has all the fields that Postfix may want for SASL authentication except that Devise encrypts the password using Blowfish before placing it in the database. How could I go about getting Postfix/SASL to decrypt those passwords so that the user can be authenticated properly? Devise salts the password so I'm not sure if that helps. Any suggestions? I'd likely want to do something similar with Dovecot or Courier, I'm not attached to one quite yet.

  • Apache/passenger/ree doesn't interpret .rb files

    I'm trying to get apache + passenger + ree to work. I think I did everything (except for setting up rails env - for now I wanna run just pure ruby) described here: http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/integration/passenger/ But when I try to go to localhost/test.rb it doesn't interpret that file and just download it.   • Windows 7 Pro sysprep not working

    Hello, I'm trying to sysprep a Windows 7 Professional machine, prior to grabbing an image for mass deployment on identical hardware, and am having a hard time getting sysprep to work (at all). I've created an XML answer file with WSIM, and have a basic setupcomplete.cmd file, but none of the configurations in the answer file seem to be applied. I've read technet articles and googled, and I still have no idea why this is happening. At relatively low loads the server seems to get backed up and start churning results like this into the error.log: connect() to unix:/passenger_helper_server failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) while connecting to upstream My passenger setup is: passenger_min_instances 2; passenger_pool_idle_time 1200; passenger_max_pool_size 20; I have done some digging, and it looks like the CPU gets pegged. Memory usage seems fine passenger_memory_stats shows at most about 700MB being used, but CPU approaches 100%. is this enough to cause this type of error? Should i bring the pool size down? Are there other configuration settings I should be looking at?
