Ruby on rails gems and win 7

I have a networked home share (at work). This is my HOMEPATH,HOMESHARE,etc.

When I installed the rails gem and other the .gems folder was created there (which is on a network drive) and consequently any code that needs a gem or a gem lookup is slow. And I'm wondering which environment variables need to be corrected.

I've googled this but most results are dealing with cygwin so any ideas?
