i intend to fill a char-pointer array successively in a for-loop. the content to fill in is a integer so i need to cast. but i didn't get the result i want to.. for (i=0;i<max0;i++){ sprintf(buf, "%d", content[i]); } sprintf replaces the hole buf, but i want to append. for (i=0;i<max0;i++){ buf[i]=(char) contint[i] } but this isn't working too. it seems to me, i get ascii-code of the content[i].

Using Large Arrays in VB.NET

I want to extract large amounts of data from Excel, manipulate it and put it back. I have found the best way to do this is to extract the data from an Excel Range in to a large array, change the contents on the array and write it back to the Excel Range. I am now rewriting the application using VB.NET 2008/2010 and wish to take advantage of any new features. Currently I have to loop through the contents of the array to find elements with certain values; also sorting large arrays is cumbersome. I am looking to use the new features, including LINQ to manipulate the data in my array. Does anybody have any advice on the easiest ways to filter / query, sort etc. data in a large array. Also what are the reasonable limits to the size of the array? ~Many Thanks

MultiThreading question

Hi, I am developing on Android but the question might be just as valid on any other Java platform. I have developed a multi-threaded app. Lets say I have a first class that needs to do a time-intensive task, thus this work is done in another Thread. When it's done that same Thread will return the time-intensive task result to another (3rd) class. This last class will do something and return it's result to the first-starting class. I have noticed though that the first class will be waiting the whole time, maybe because this is some kind of loop ? Also I'd like the Thread-class to stop itself, as in when it has passed it's result to the third class it should simply stop. The third class has to do it's work without being "incapsulated" in the second class (the Thread one). Anyone knows how to accomplish this ? right now the experience is that the first one seems to be waiting (hanging) till the second and the third one are done :(

C# - Listing class properties like Immediate window

Hi, I store a few classes in session. I want to be able to see the values of my class properties in trace viewer. By default I only the Type name MyNamespace.MyClass. I was wondering if I overwrite the .ToString() method and use reflection to loop over all the properties and construct a string like that ... it would do the trick but just wanted to see if there is anything already out there (specially since Immediate Window has this capability) which does the same ... i.e. list the class property values in trace instead of just the Name of the class. Thanks!

Putting li's into rows

I have a long list of li's. <ul> <li> <img src="test.jpg"> </li> <li> <img src="test.jpg"> </li> //etc Each li has this styling: width: 10%; display: inline-block; vertical-align: middle; When I get to more than 10 li's in a row, they go on to the next row. Is this the correct way to do it? or should I wrap each 10 li's into something that breaks the line? What the best/correct method? i intialy chose this method as it would be easily to loop out data from a database.

In each loop iteration, variable j is declared again and again. Then why is its address remaining same? Shouldn't it be given some random address each time? I want to create several link_to_remote links that are campaign names: <% @campaigns.each do |campaign| %>  <%= link_to_remote(campaign, :update => "campaign_todo", :url => %> <% end %> I want the output to update on the page to render a partial, which runs a loop through the values associated with the campaign. The API docs says this will render a partial, but I'm not clear where the name of the :partial template is passed in, either here or in the controller Thanks.

Setting a property from one collection to another collection

I have two colluections List<Application> myApps; List<Application> yourApps; These lists have overlapping overlapping data but they are coming from different sources and each source has some missing field data. Application object has a property called Description Both collections have a unique field called Key i want to see if there is a LINQ solution to: Loop through all applications in myApps and look at the key and see if that existing in yourApps. If it does, i want to take the description property from that application in yourApps and set the description property on the application on myApps to that same value i wanted to see if there was any slick way using lambda expressions (instead of having to have loops and a number of if statements.)

Does a CPU assigns a value atomically to memory?

Hi! A quick question I've been wondering about for some time; Does the CPU assign values atomically, or, is it bit by bit (say for example a 32bit integer). If it's bit by bit, could another thread accessing this exact location get a "part" of the to-be-assigned value? Think of this: I have two threads and one shared "unsigned int" variable (call it "g_uiVal"). Both threads loop. On is printing "g_uiVal" with printf("%u\n", g_uiVal). The second just increase this number. Will the printing thread ever print something that is totally not or part of "g_uiVal"'s value? So will 1000 requests which came at the (relativly) same time be fully responsed faster than C# .Net programm perfoming algorithm 1000 times in while loop? So we input same data, we perform same algorithm, which is written in a wary same way (respecting language diferencis ofcourse), outputing same data (lat us say saving it to file for tham to be relativly equal) Who will be faster on some 1000 times of performing O(NN) algorithm, in which case (if it is possible) one will owerrun another?

Accessing Variables in Javascript using .length

Hey all, I'm pretty new to Javascript, so forgive me if this is a simple question. I'm trying to access the length of a set of checkboxes in a form using Javascript. However, I need to be able to change the "name" field of the checkboxes to check several different sets of them. Right now, my sample code looks like: var set = "set" + x; totalLength = optionBoxes.set.length; The variable x is being incremented by a for loop that wraps the whole thing and the name of the checkbox sets that I'm trying to access are set0, set1, set2, etc. Thanks. In Python, is there a way to call a method on every item of an iterable? [closed]

Possible Duplicate: Is there a map without result in python? I often come to a situation in my programs when I want to quickly/efficiently call an in-place method on each of the items contained by an iterable. (Quickly meaning the overhead of a for loop is unacceptable). A good example would be a list of sprites when I want to call draw() on each of the Sprite objects. I know I can do something like this: [sprite.draw() for sprite in sprite_list] But I feel like the list comprehension is misused since I'm not using the returned list. The same goes for the map function. Stone me for premature optimization, but I also don't want the overhead of the return value. What I want to know is if there's a method in Python that lets me do what I just explained, perhaps like the hypothetical function I suggest below: do_all(sprite_list, draw)

Hey All, Im using the codeigniter upload library to upload multiple files, which works fine ... What im having problems with is returning the information about the files. Im using the following code to print the results for testing echo '<pre>'; print_r($this->upload->data()); echo '</pre>'; A cut down version of the results are as follows Array ( [file_name] => Array ( [0] => filename1.gif [1] => filename2.jpg ) ) The way my view is setup, is that i use jquery to insert multiple dynamic file input fields so the amount of files can be 1, it can be 50 and so on. Im wondering how i would loop through that array to send each filename to the database

How to get number range in java? for instance how can verify is the number 2389 within 10 numbers from 2400. its not but 2389 is. Ok here is the rephrase : Number 1000 is the range number 990 is comming in the loop, I return true because the between 990 and 1000 is 10 numbers diference. In comes the next number 989 range is always 1000, I return false because the between 989 and 1000 is 11 numbers diference. In comes the next number 1013 range is always 1000, I return false because the between 1013 and 1000 is 13 numbers diference.

hi, so I have this simple for loop to echo an array: for ($i = 0; $i < count($director); $i++) { echo '<a href="person.php?id='.$director[$i]["id"].'">'.$director[$i]["name"].'</a>'; } The problem here is that when more than one element is in the array then I get everything echoed without any space between. I want to separate each element with a comma except the last one. I cant use 'implode' so I'm looking for another solution... Anyone?

Android RealViewSwitcher : How to start on second page?

i'm using RealViewSwitcher I got from this site. It works perfectly on my code, but I don't have any idea how to set the initial current screen to second or third screen. the method setCurrentScreen(int) doesn't affect anything and if I change the for loop inside the onLayout() method from for (int i = 0; i < count; i++) {...} into for (int i = 1; i < count; i++){...} It does starts in page two, but you can't go to page one. Any idea how to start on page two?

I have a members.php file that shows my websites members. I echo members name by using foreach method. A method of Members class returns an array, then I use foreach loop in the members.php file to echo the members. I am trying to aovid writing php code in my members.php file. Is there a way to avoid using foreach inside members.php file? For example, is it possible to return value from a method couple of times? (by only calling the object once). Just like how we normally call the functions? This question doesn't make sense, but I am just trying to see if there is a away around this issue?

I have an arraylist of VOs. These objects have many properties and corresponding get/set methods. I want to sort this array list based on a property which I'll be getting in runtime. Let me explain in detail. My VO is like this public class Employee { String name; String id; private String getName() { return name; } private String getId() { return id; } } I will be getting a string ‘sort’ in runtime, which can be either ‘id’ of ‘name’. I want to sort the list based on the value of the string. I have tried to use comparator and reflection together, but no luck. I don’t want to use an if loop and create new comparator classes. While setInterval is handy, it's kind of limiting. Every time I want to add a Tween I have to add a new method. I do not want to alter the structure of my code just to add in some delays. Isn't there any way to say this without making methods for A and B? // do A // wait N seconds // do B I don't want to use a while loop with Dates because I think it will be blocking. Isn't there anything like Thread.sleep in ActionScript?

It was claimed that this code is "ugly" because it initializes a variable to a value that will never be read: String tempName = null; try{ tempName = buildFileName(); } catch(Exception e){ ... System.exit(1); } FILE_NAME = tempName; Is this indeed bad practice? Should one avoid initializing variables to dummy values that will never actually be used? (EDIT - And what about initializing a String variable to "" before a loop that will concatenate values to the String...? Or is this in a separate category? e.g. String whatever = ""; for(String str : someCollection){ whatever += str; } )

only return random number when it is unique

My brain is melting today and i cannot think how to do this simple bit of code. numberList is a string of numbers seperated by commas like '2, 34, 10' etc.. when i request a random number i need to check if the string has the number, if it does i want to keep requesting a random number until the random number is definitely not in the string. i cant think what kind of loop i would do to get this to work: Random r = new Random(); public int RandomPos(int max) { int i; do { i = r.Next(max) + 1; } while (!numberList.Contains(i.ToString())); return i; }
