  • Read file structure into an array, but only specific files.

    - by dmackerman
I have a directory structure that looks like this: /expandables - folder - folder - folder - folder - BannerInfo.txt - index.html Each one of the folder has the same exact stucture. One file named BannerInfo.txt and index.html. There are about 250 of these folders if that matters. I want to loop through these folders and store each of the index.html files into an array. Inside of the index.html file is just some simple HTML and Javascript of which I want to read into a string to be displayed later on. I'm struggling with how to filter out only the index.html file from the individual folders. The purpose of this is because I want to randomly select an index.html file and put the contents into a textarea. I thought I could do a simple array_rand() on the returned array and spit out the string. Any ideas?

  • How to use the watchdog timer in a RTOS?

    - by user946230
Assume I have a cooperative scheduler in an embedded environment. I have many processes running. I want to utilize the watchdog timer so that I can detect when a process has stopped behaving for any reason and reset the processor. In simpler applications with no RTOS I would always touch the watchdog from the main loop and this was always adequate. However, here, there are many processes that could potentially hang. What is a clean method to touch the watchdog timer periodically while ensuring that each process is in good health? I was thinking that I could provide a callback function to each process so that it could let another function, which oversees all, know it is still alive. The callback would pass a parameter which would be the tasks unique id so the overseer could determine who was calling back.

  • How to define a custom iterator in C++

    - by Robert Martin
I've seen a number of posts on SO about how to define custom iterators, but nothing that seems to exactly answers my question, which is... How do I create an iterator that hides a nested for loop? For instance, I have a class Foo, inside of the Foo is a Bar, and inside of the Bar is a string. I could write for (const Foo& foo : foo_set) for (const Bar& bar : foo.bar_set) if (bar.my_string != "baz") cout << bar.my_string << endl; but instead I want to be able to do something like: for (const string& good : foo_set) cout << good << endl; How do I do something like this?

  • php - How do I get rid of this strange "empty delimiter" message

    - by Steven
    I have some code that uses the stristr function to extract data I need. It works, in that it gives me the results I'm looking for. BUT (you knew there was a but), it gives me this error message for every iteration of the loop: Warning: stristr() [function.stristr]: Empty delimiter in ... line 55 Like I said, the code works apart from this error. Can anyone suggest how i could amend this code to get rid of the message? Thanks in advance $data = stristr("$text", "$key"); $result = string_limit_words($data,2); print "$result<BR>";

  • Threading and iterating through changing collections

    - by adamjellyit
In C# (console app) I want to hold a collection of objects. All objects are of same type. I want to iterate through the collection calling a method on each object. And then repeat the process continuously. However during iteration objects can be added or removed from the list. (The objects themselves will not be destroyed .. just removed from the list). Not sure what would happen with a foreach loop .. or other similar method. This has to have been done 1000 times before .. can you recommend a solid approach?

  • I want to run both MAMP and native local webserver on mac os x 10.6.4

    - by user1065921
I have set up a local webserver using MAMP on ports 8888 for Apache and 8889 for MySQL - I am using this exclusively for Drupal 6 multisite. I would also like to have a local webserver using the native mac os x capabilities through ports 80 and 3306. Is it possible to run both MAMP local server and native osx webserver concurrently? I have tried to install php on my local server by editing the http.conf file but whenever I open a .php file (any php file) using Firefox I get an infinite loop of blank browser windows opening (FF) or in Safari the actual code of the php file is displayed rather than the php processed page. Have I missed/messed up something? Thanks,

  • Bash - replacing targeted files with a specific file, whitespace in directory names

    - by Dispelwolf
I have a large directory tree of files, and am using the following script to list and replace a searched-for name with a specific file. Problem is, I don't know how to write the createList() for-loop correctly to account for whitespace in a directory name. If all directories don't have spaces, it works fine. The output is a list of files, and then a list of "cp" commands, but reports directories with spaces in them as individual dirs. aindex=1 files=( null ) [ $# -eq 0 ] && { echo "Usage: $0 filename" ; exit 500; } createList(){ f=$(find . -iname "search.file" -print) for i in $f do files[$aindex]=$(echo "${i}") aindex=$( expr $aindex + 1 ) done } writeList() { for (( i=1; i<$aindex; i++ )) do echo "#$i : ${files[$i]}" done for (( i=1; i<$aindex; i++ )) do echo "/usr/bin/cp /cygdrive/c/testscript/TheCorrectFile.file ${files[$filenumber]}" done } createList writeList

  • [java] How to get ALL the information from a socket

    - by raven
Hello, I'll begin this question with the claim that I have read the java networking guide before asking you. I do not understand how to READ the socket and get all the info summed up into a string. the socket might contains more than 1 line [trying to make a chat]. Please do no refer me to any other site unless it clearly states "this exact line does this.." because I failed to understand what this code part does BufferedReader stdIn = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader(System.in)); String userInput; while ((userInput = stdIn.readLine()) != null) { out.println(userInput); System.out.println("echo: " + in.readLine()); } Please, I just want to make a loop that will receive information from a socket, get all the content together into one string [I also want it to know where to add another line]. Thanks allot for anyone who helps, I have been trying to get an answer from tuts for hours and just failed to understand!

  • if else-if making code look ugly any cleaner solution?

    - by Vishal
I have around 20 functions (is_func1, is_fucn2, is_func3...) returning boolean I assume there is only one function which returns true and I want that! I am doing: if is_func1(param1, param2): # I pass 1 to following abc(1) # I pass 1 some_list.append(1) elif is_func2(param1, param2): # I pass 2 to following abc(2) # I pass 1 some_list.append(2) ... . . elif is_func20(param1, param2): ... Please note: param1 and param2 are different for each, abc and some_list take parameters depending on the function. The code looks big and there is repetition in calling abc and some_list, I can pull this login in a function! but is there any other cleaner solution? I can think of putting functions in a data structure and loop to call them.

  • [R] how do I quickly group the time column in a dataframe into intervals?

    - by Derek
Hi, Assuming in R, I have a data.frame with the first column representing the time (as POSIXct). The rest of the columns (e.g., columns 2) are numeric data. I would like to group time into 3-minute intervals. Each interval will the the average of values that falls into that particular interval. Right now, I have a for-loop that iterates through the time column and generate the interval on the fly. I am wondering if there's a more elegant way to accomplish the same thing? Thanks in advance. • Are `return` and `break` useless inside a Ruby block when used as a callback?

    - by Skilldrick
In Rails, blocks can be used as callbacks, e.g.: class User < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :login, :email before_create {|user| user.name = user.login.capitalize if user.name.blank?} end When a block is used like this, is there any use for break and return? I'm asking because normally in a block, break will break out of the loop, and return will return from the enclosing method. But in a callback context, I can't get my head round what that means. The Ruby Programming Language suggests that return could cause a LocalJumpError but I haven't been able to reproduce this in a Rails callback. Edit: with the following code I'd expect a LocalJumpError, but all the return does is stop the rest of the callback executing. class User < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :login, :email before_create do |user| return user.name = user.login.capitalize end

  • int i vs int index etc. Which one is better?

    - by Earlz
Coming from a C background I've always used int i for generic loop variables. Of course in big nested loops or other complex things I may use a descriptive name but which one had you rather see? int i; for(i=0;i<Controls.Count;i++){ DoStuff(Controls[i]); } or int index; for(index=0;index<Controls.Count;index++){ DoStuff(Controls[index]); } In the current project I am working on there are both of these styles and index being replaced by ndx. Which one is better? Is the i variable too generic? Also what about the other C style names? i, j, k Should all of these be replaced by actual descriptive variables?

  • How can I use "IF statements" in a postgres trigger

    - by Dan B
    I have a trigger function that I only want to fire on certain instances of INSERTS, in this case, if do_backup = true. If it fires in all instances, I get an infinite loop. The logic seems pretty simple to me, and the rest of the function works. But the trigger function does not seem to register my conditional and always runs, even when backup = true. CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION table_styles_backup() RETURNS TRIGGER AS $table_styles_backup$ DECLARE ... do_backup boolean; BEGIN SELECT backup INTO do_backup FROM table_details WHERE id=NEW.table_meta_id; IF (do_backup = true) THEN ... INSERT INTO table_styles_versions ( ... ) VALUES ( ... ); END IF; RETURN NULL; END; $table_styles_backup$ LANGUAGE plpgsql; CREATE TRIGGER table_styles_backup AFTER INSERT ON table_styles FOR EACH ROW EXECUTE PROCEDURE table_styles_backup();

  • C# - Listing class properties like Immediate window

    - by Robert
Hi, I store a few classes in session. I want to be able to see the values of my class properties in trace viewer. By default I only the Type name MyNamespace.MyClass. I was wondering if I overwrite the .ToString() method and use reflection to loop over all the properties and construct a string like that ... it would do the trick but just wanted to see if there is anything already out there (specially since Immediate Window has this capability) which does the same ... i.e. list the class property values in trace instead of just the Name of the class. Thanks!

  • How to read arbitrary number of values using std::copy?

    - by Miro Kropacek
Hi, I'm trying to code opposite action to this: std::ostream outs; // properly initialized of course std::set<int> my_set; // ditto outs << my_set.size(); std::copy( my_set.begin(), my_set.end(), std::ostream_iterator<int>( outs ) ); it should be something like this: std::istream ins; std::set<int>::size_type size; ins >> size; std::copy( std::istream_iterator<int>( ins ), std::istream_iterator<int>( ins ) ???, std::inserter( my_set, my_set.end() ) ); But I'm stuck with the 'end' iterator -- input interators can't use std::advance and neither I can use two streams with the same source... Is there any elegant way how to solve this? Of course I can use for loop, but maybe there's something nicer :)

  • Ant loadfile override property

    - by lucks
Hi, I'm trying to use the Ant task <loadfile> in a loop to parse the contents of a file. I have something like <loadfile srcFile="@{some.input}" property="my.property"> Since Ant properties are immutable, this doesn't work for me. I need 'my.property' to update on every iteration. Is there a way to achieve this? I know Ant-contrib has a <var> task but I'm not sure how to use <loadfile> with it. Any recommendations? Thanks.

  • Separating MySQL SELECT statement based on data in a column

    - by NightMICU
Hi everyone, I need to retrieve data (vehicle details, in this case) from a MySQL table tabled and then loop through the results to generate separate lists for each category of vehicle. Is there a simple way to do this without having to have a SELECT statement for each type of vehicle? If I were just doing this for one category, I would use the following: <?php $sql = "SELECT * FROM apparatus WHERE vehicleType = 'Support'; $getSQL = mysql_query($sql); ?> <ul> <?php while ($vehicleData = mysql_fetch_assoc($getSQL)) {?> <li><?php echo $vehicleData['name'];?></li> <?php } ?> </ul> ..etc. Need to do this for four different types of vehicles. Thanks!

  • Is there away to load a page only once with AJAX?

    - by digitup
I have an AJAX call to load a function once the page is loaded, the function opens a lightbox a like frame with some data. The issue is that if I click on close (lightbox frame), the page loads again and again loading the frame so the use never reaches the page under the layer of frame since the frame load on infinite loop. The Ajax is repeating calling the function I guess but I would like to load the frame once and when the user clicks X (close) he may return to the original page. $(document).ready(function(){ var city = $('#citycode').html(); $.ajax({ //when page is loaded, fire the following function success: function(){ //the function to be fired located in the page in seperate file openX(city + //some other parameters); }}); }); Any tips?

  • Grabbing Just The Top Entry From A LINQ Query

    - by Soo
I basically have a lot of poorly designed code to do something that, I'm sure, can be done far more elegantly. What I'm trying to do is grab the last date from a database table. var Result = from a in DB.Table orderby a.Date descending select new {Date = a}; foreach(var Row in Result) { LastDate = Row.Date.Date; break; } Basically, there's a foreach loop that is designed to run only once. Crappy code! What's a "best practice" way to accomplish the same thing?

  • In Perl, how can I iterate over the Cartesian product of multiple sets?

    - by nubie2
I want to do permutation in Perl. For example I have three arrays: ["big", "tiny", "small"] and then I have ["red", "yellow", "green"] and also ["apple", "pear", "banana"]. How do I get: ["big", "red", "apple"] ["big", "red", "pear"] ..etc.. ["small", "green", "banana"] I understand this is called permutation. But I am not sure how to do it. Also I don't know how many arrays I can have. There may be three or four, so I don't want to do nested loop.

  • Python: How to quit CLI when stuck in blocking raw_input?

    - by christianschluchter
I have a GUI program which should also be controllable via CLI (for monitoring). The CLI is implemented in a while loop using raw_input. If I quit the program via a GUI close button, it hangs in raw_input and does not quit until it gets an input. How can I immediately abort raw_input without entering an input? I run it on WinXP but I want it to be platform independent, it should also work within Eclipse since it is a developer tool. Python version is 2.6. I searched stackoverflow for hours and I know there are many answers to that topic, but is there really no platform independent solution to have a non-blocking CLI reader? If not, what would be the best way to overcome this problem? Thanks

  • (C++) While reading a file (ifstream), is there any way to direct it to make a new line?

    - by Enzo
While reading a file (ifstream), is there any way to direct it to make a new line? For instance, I would like for THIS to happen: myfilearray[1]array[2]endl; Obviously, the "endl" just isn't allowed. Is there another way to do this? Edit---thanks for the quick responses guys! From a text file, I'm trying to store two strings from that file into arrays and then do the same with the next line (or until I desire, using a for loop) Using strings is important to me as it will make my future program a lot more flexible.

  • Scolling list with jQuery

    - by Chris
My javascript is not up to scratch at the moment and I am stumped with this! I need to create an animated list with javascript like this one - http://www.fiveminuteargument.com/blog/scrolling-list. What I want is to take a list like so <ul> <li>Item 1</li> <li>Item 2</li> <li>Item 3</li> <li>Item 4</li> <li>Item 5</li> <li>Item 6</li> </ul> And display two at once, then display them in a loop, 2 at a time. Even pseudo code would help to get me started.
