  • How do i program a simple IRC bot in python?

    Hi every one. I need help writing a basic IRC bot that just connects to a channel.. is anyone able to explain me this? I have managed to get it to connect to the IRC server but i am unable to join a channel and log on. The code i have thus far is: import sockethost = 'irc.freenode.org' port = 6667 join_sock = socket.socket() join_sock.connect((host, port)) <code here> Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Api/plugins for open source libraries?

    whenever i use a open source library eg. Doctrine i always ending up coding a class (so called Facade) to use the Doctrine library. so next time i want to create a user i just type: $fields = array('name' => 'peter', 'email' => '[email protected]'); Doctrine_Facade::create_entity($entity, $fields); then it creates an entity with the provided information. so i guess, all coders will create their own "Facade". i wonder how usual it is with open source Facades to download and interact with the open source libraries? is this rare cause i haven't seen any of these. in some frameworks i have seen them called plugins, eg. plugins for twitter api or facebook api. so whenever you download a library, should you search for plugins/facades on the net, or is it better to just try coding your own? i just thought it would be great for everyone not to reinvent the wheel. thanks.

    Hi, I'm writing a POS application for the iPhone/iPod combination, using the same exact hardware used in Apple Stores:: EasyPay. Ok, my hurdle is this: how do I identify which credit card type is being used as text is entered in the uitextfield? I assume I've to use textField:shouldChangeCharactersInRange:replacementString:? However, I've got ideas floating around, but I simple cannot put them together to form code :/ Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advanced :D

  • Is my objective possible using WCF (and is it the right way to do things?)

    I'm writing some software that modifies a Windows Server's configuration (things like MS-DNS, IIS, parts of the filesystem). My design has a server process that builds an in-memory object graph of the server configuration state and a client which requests this object graph. The server would then serialize the graph, send it to the client (presumably using WCF), the server then makes changes to this graph and sends it back to the server. The server receives the graph and proceeds to make modifications to the server. However I've learned that object-graph serialisation in WCF isn't as simple as I first thought. My objects have a hierarchy and many have parametrised-constructors and immutable properties/fields. There are also numerous collections, arrays, and dictionaries. My understanding of WCF serialisation is that it requires use of either the XmlSerializer or DataContractSerializer, but DCS places restrictions on the design of my object-graph (immutable data seems right-out, it also requires parameter-less constructors). I understand XmlSerializer lets me use my own classes provided they implement ISerializable and have the de-serializer constructor. That is fine by me. I spoke to a friend of mine about this, and he advocates going for a Data Transport Object-only route, where I'd have to maintain a separate DataContract object-graph for the transport of data and re-implement my server objects on the client. Another friend of mine said that because my service only has two operations ("GetServerConfiguration" and "PutServerConfiguration") it might be worthwhile just skipping WCF entirely and implementing my own server that uses Sockets. So my questions are: Has anyone faced a similar problem before and if so, are there better approaches? Is it wise to send an entire object graph to the client for processing? Should I instead break it down so that the client requests a part of the object graph as it needs it and sends only bits that have changed (thus reducing concurrency-related risks?)? If sending the object-graph down is the right way, is WCF the right tool? And if WCF is right, what's the best way to get WCF to serialise my object graph?

  • JSF how to temporary disable validators to save draft

    I have a pretty complex form with lots of inputs and validators. For the user it takes pretty long time (even over an hour) to complete that, so they would like to be able to save the draft data, even if it violates rules like mandatory fields being not typed in. I believe this problem is common to many web applications, but can't find any well recognised pattern how this should be implemented. Can you please advise how to achieve that? For now I can see the following options: use of immediate=true on "Save draft" button doesn't work, as the UI data would not be stored on the bean, so I wouldn't be able to access it. Technically I could find the data in UI component tree, but traversing that doesn't seem to be a good idea. remove all the fields validation from the page and validate the data programmaticaly in the action listener defined for the form. Again, not a good idea, form is really complex, there are plenty of fields so validation implemented this way would be very messy. implement my own validators, that would be controlled by some request attribute, which would be set for standard form submission (with full validation expected) and would be unset for "save as draft" submission (when validation should be skipped). Again, not a good solution, I would need to provide my own wrappers for all validators I am using. But as you see no one is really reasonable. Is there really no simple solution to the problem?

  • How can I save and read to XML the new C++ style matrix objects in OpenCV?

    The old, C style cvMat matrices could be passed to the cvSave() function for easy writing to an XML file. The new C++ style cv::Mat and cv::Mat_ matrices are not accepted by this function. The OpenCV reference has a section on XML persistence, but the three classes (FileStorage, FileNode and FileNodeIterator) lack any description or example and I can't figure out how to use them from the interface.     Hi, I'm writing an embedded ftp server, and I cannot get the listing format correctly. The server works completely, only programs like FileZilla cannot interpret the listing format. Avoiding very small calls to the database, which ends up being very slow I'm wondering. If we just delimit it to database transaction management, won't prepare statements help with this?

  • PEAR mail not sending to .eu email addresses

    I have a PEAR mailing script that is used to send newsletters from a clients website. I've used the same code before to produce another newsletter system and it has worked well and been used to send emails to various addresses, however our latest client has email addresses ending .eu and this seems to cause a problem. When the newsletter is sent from the site to the various subscribers, including gmail, hotmail, yahoo and our own company emails, the emails are received correctly by all but the clients email addresses, the ones ending in .eu. As there is nothing different between their mailing system and our own, which is run from the same hosting company, I have to conclude that it is something to do with the domain name. The emails are being sent to the addresses from the system, as I have a log file storing the email addresses when the mail out function is called, but the newsletter never appears in the inbox. I have created a new email account for the domain and that too isn't receiving the emails. It's not going into a spam folder as the webmail system marks spam by adding SPAM into the subject. I don't know a great deal about PEAR or the mailing function so I may be missing something important, but I'd have thought seeing the last thing to happen is sending the email out, and that seems to work, then it should reach the clients inbox. Is this something to do with the PEAR mailing function not liking .eu addresses or is it more likely to be something wrong in my code or with their domain? Any help is greatly appreciated as the client and myself are getting both confused and frustrated by the whole thing. Cheers

I'm able to send STDOUT to logger, for logs via rsync --del -az -e 'ssh -i mycrt.crt' /home/gnutt/backup/ me@offisite:backup | logger -i But I want to send STDERR instead, so if there is a problem, such as that offsite is unavailable, that output should be sent to logger and logged.

  • Optimising speeds in HDF5 using Pytables

    The problem is with respect to the writing speed of the computer (10 * 32 bit machine) and the postgresql query performance.I will explain the scenario in detail. I have data about 80 Gb (along with approprite database indexes in place). I am trying to read it from Postgresql database and writing it into HDF5 using Pytables.I have 1 table and 5 variable arrays in one hdf5 file.The implementation of Hdf5 is not multithreaded or enabled for symmetric multi processing.I have rented about 10 computers for a day and trying to write them inorder to speed up my data handling. As for as the postgresql table is concerned the overall record size is 140 million and I have 5 primary- foreign key referring tables.I am not using joins as it is not scalable So for a single lookup i do 6 lookup without joins and write them into hdf5 format. For each lookup i do 6 inserts into each of the table and its corresponding arrays. The queries are really simple select * from x.train where tr_id=1 (primary key & indexed) select q_t from x.qt where q_id=2 (non-primary key but indexed) (similarly five queries) Each computer writes two hdf5 files and hence the total count comes around 20 files. Some Calculations and statistics: Total number of records : 14,37,00,000 Total number of records per file : 143700000/20 =71,85,000 The total number of records in each file : 71,85,000 * 5 = 3,59,25,000 Current Postgresql database config : My current Machine : 8GB RAM with i7 2nd generation Processor. I made changes to the following to postgresql configuration file : shared_buffers : 2 GB effective_cache_size : 4 GB Note on current performance: I have run it for about ten hours and the performance is as follows: The total number of records written for each file is about 6,21,000 * 5 = 31,05,000 The bottle neck is that i can only rent it for 10 hours per day (overnight) and if it processes in this speed it will take about 11 days which is too high for my experiments. Please suggest me on how to improve. Questions: 1. Should i use Symmetric multi processing on those desktops(it has 2 cores with about 2 GB of RAM).In that case what is suggested or prefereable? 2. If i change my postgresql configuration file and increase the RAM will it enhance my process. 3. Should i use multi threading.. I can find alot about the old SOAP API however for the new AJAX api I cannot find any information on the following: Is this sort of use allowed as the Terms of use are vague Is there a limit to the number of requests per day As you can only get a max of 8 results at a time, is the only way to get the top 100 results to keep requesting the next set and is this an issue?     I have been writing my first jQuery plugin and struggling to find a means to time how long different pieces of code take to run. I can use firebug and console.time/profile. However, it seems that because my code executes so fast I get no results with profile and with time it spits out 0ms. (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2690697/firebug-profiling-issue-no-activity-to-profile/2690846#2690846) Is there a way to get the time at a greater level of detail that milliseconds in javascript?

    Say I'm writing a Django app, and all the templates in the app require a certain variable. The "classic" way to deal with this, afaik, is to write a context processor and add it to TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS in the settings.py. My question is, is this the right way to do it, considering that apps are supposed to be "independent" from the actual project using them? In other words, when deploying that app to a new project, is there any way to avoid the project having to explicitly mess around with its settings?
