• IE8 claims my page has an error, firefox doesn't, and I can't find any error. Help!

  This is something of a follow-up question to my question here. You can find the HTML source in a text file here. When I load that page in IE8, I get the "Done, but with errors on page." message in my status bar. The detail view shows Expected identifier sms Line: 147 Code: 0 Char: 67 and I see absolutely no problems anywhere near there. In IE8, the page is still behaving erratically w/r/t the randomly losing focus as mentioned in my other question. When I load the same exact page in Firefox (using Firebug) the console shows no errors and the page works perfectly. Any thoughts on what's going on here? This is driving me nuts and making me want to give up on even trying to write an IE friendly page. Edit: Thanks for all the comments! This page is written as a JSP, so I edit in Eclipse. I found an Eclipse warning about the onblur event for the username field. I switched it from onblur="alert(document.activeElement + ' class:' + document.activeElement.class)" to onblur="alert(document.activeElement)" and that made the bizarre IE page error vanish. I had been trying to give more info (namely, its CSS class) about specifically which element is stealing focus - to my own detriment, apparently, since Javascript was interpreting the '.class' part in the Java(script) sense. And, no, the page doesn't validate. But the errors were mostly/all ones that just didn't make sense, such as Line 14, Column 41: Attribute "LANGUAGE" is not a valid attribute. Did you mean "language"? to which I say, WTF?! But I'm still stuck trying to figure out why, as I enter text in the username & password fields, focus randomly switches to a div (working on figuring out which div currently). Edit 2: It's the div between the two "global nav" comments, at the very top of the body. Still no idea why it's happening, though.

I created some users with the integrated tool, and the login is perfectly working. But now what I want to do is to give administrator the capability to create, modify, delete users. I made the multiple calls to Membership.UpdateUser after reading this blog entry, but it didn't change anything. A strange think I noticed while debugging, is that when I enter the Button1_Click method, Membership.GetUser(userName) returns me values from my precedent attempt ! I don't really understand what I'm missing. Does someone have a clue ? Thanks in advance !

I'd like to reuse this code in a JPA project, having no hibernate.cfg.xml file (and no .properties file), but a persistence.xml file (autodetected in the META-INF directory as specified by the JPA spec). I tried this too simple adaptation, Configuration cfg = new AnnotationConfiguration(); cfg.configure(); but it failed with that exception. Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.HibernateException: /hibernate.cfg.xml not found Has anybody done that? Thanks.

• C# Configuration Manager . ConnectionStrings

  I have a console app containing an application configuration file containing one connection string as shown below: <configuration> <connectionStrings> <add name="Target" connectionString="server=MYSERVER; Database=MYDB; Integrated Security=SSPI;" /> </connectionStrings> </configuration> When I pass this to my Connection using: ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings[1].ToString() I have two values in there, hence using the second in the collection, my question is where is this second coming from? I have checked the Bin version and original and its not mine! Its obviously a system generated one but I have not seen this before? Can anyone enlighten me? The mystery connection string is: data source=.\SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true This isn't a problem as such I would just like to know why this is occuring? Thanks in advance! For future reference to those who may or may not stumble on this, after discovering the machine.config its become apparent it is bad practice to refer to a config by its index as each stack will potentially be different, which is why "Keys" are used. • jquery: How to completely remove a dialog on close

  When an ajax operation fails, I create a new div with the errors and then show it as a dialog. When the dialog is closed I would like to completely destroy and remove the div again. How can I do this? My code looks something like this at the moment: $('<div>We failed</div>') .dialog( { title: 'Error', close: function(event, ui) { $(this).destroy().remove(); } }); When I run this the dialog box shows up correctly, but when I close it the dialog is still visible in the html (using FireBug). What am I missing here? Something I have forgotten? Update: Just noticed my code gives me an error in the firebug console. $(this).destroy is not a function Anyone able to help me out? Update: If I do just $(this).remove() instead, the item is removed from the html. But is it completely removed from the DOM? Or do I somehow need to call that destroy function first as well?

  I recently stumbled over a very odd source listing on a rather old programming-related site (lost it somewhere in my browser history as I didn't care about it at first). I think that this is part of a simple (console-based?) snake game. I searched and searched but didn't find a language that looked somwhat like this. This seems like a mix of Python, Ruby and C++. What the hell? What programming-language is the below source listing written in? • C# Breakpoint Weirdness

  In my program I've got two data files A and B. The data in A is static and the data in B refers back to the data in A. In order to make sure the data in B is invalidated when A is changed, I keep an identifier for each of the links which is a long byte-string identifying the data. I get this string using BitConverter on some of the important properties. My problem is that this scheme isn't working. I save the identifiers initially, and with I reload (with the exact same data in A) the identifiers don't match anymore. It seems the bit converter gives different results when I go to save. The really weird thing about it is, if I place a breakpoint in the save code, I can see the identifier it's writing to the file is fine, and the next load works. If I don't place a breakpoint and say print the identifiers to console instead, they're totally different. It's like when my program is running at full-speed the CPU messes up some instructions. This isn't the first time something like this happens to me. I've seen it in other projects. What gives? Has anyone every experienced this kind of debugging weirdness? I can't explain how stopping the program and not stopping it can change the output. Also, it's not a hardware problem because this happens on my laptop as well.

• Very strange Application.ThreadException behaviour.

  I'm using the Application.ThreadException event to handle and log unexpected exceptions in my winforms application. Now, somewhere in my application, I've got the following code (or rather something equivalent, but this dummy code is enough to reproduce my issue) : try { throw new NullReferenceException("test"); } catch (Exception ex) { throw new Exception("test2", ex); } I'm clearly expecting my Application_ThreadException handler to be passed the "test2" exception, but this is not always the case. Typically, if another thread marshals my code to the UI, my handler receives the "test" exception, exactly as if I hadn't caught "test" at all. Here is a short sample reproducing this behavior. • How do you get the viewport scale after pinch/zoom on an iPhone web app?

  Does anyone know how to get the size in pixels or scale value of the viewport after a user has pinched or double tapped to zoom in/out on a page in JavaScript? I've tried using window.innerWidth but I've had mixed results. Sometimes it seems to accurately give the number of pixels the viewport is showing, however, if I zoom way in on a page and then do a large pinch to zoom back out, window.innerWidth will be around 600-700 even though it is only showing ~200px of the page. The page is only 400px wide and it didn't show the checkered "you've gone too far" background you see when you zoom out beyond the page size. If I do small pinches to zoom in and out, window.innerWidth appears to work just fine. Unfortunately I can't rely on a user only making small pinch gestures :) I've also tried to use the scale property on the gesture event object, but I've found that unreliable because you don't always know the initial scale when you reload the page or use back/forward buttons to navigate to it even when using the meta tag to specify it. Ultimately, I'm trying to make an app that is aware of when a user is trying to zoom out beyond the maximum zoom level so if there is another way to do this I'm interested in hearing about it :) Here's the code I'm using to get the innerWidth: document.body.addEventListener('gestureend', function (evt) { console.log(window.innerWidth); // inaccurate when doing large pinch gestures }, false); Thanks!

• loading google maps drawing manager object

  So i am using Google Maps Drawing Manager to draw some polygons and i am saving the lat e long coordinates to my database. Now my question is, after i load that to my array, how can i rebuild the saved polygon back into my map? • How can I use JSONP to download client-side javascript objects?

  I'm trying to get client-side javascript objects saved as a file locally. I'm not sure if this is possible. The basic architecture is this: Ping an external API to get back a JSON object Work client-side with that object, and eventually have a "download me" link This link sends the data to my server, which processes it and sends it back with a mime type application/json, which (should) prompt the user to download the file locally. I'm receiving the JSON string and serializing it, which is great. I'm missing two things: The Actual Questions What do I need to do to get the same prompt-to-download behavior that I get when I visit the page in a browser (much simpler) How do I access, server-side, the json object being sent to the server to serialize it? I don't know what index it is in the GET array (silly, I know, but I've tried almost everything)

  Hello everybody! Today, I've started with Yahoo Query Language. I would use it to retrive stocks details, so I'm talking about Yahoo Finance. I think there is a bug on this language. This is my query: select * from yahoo.finance.quoteslist where symbol='@^GSPC' I ALWAYS get 51 results! it's impossible, take a look at: http://it.finance.yahoo.com/q/cp?s=^GSPC There are 500 results! I wrote a console program in Python for doing marathon pace running calculations and I'm trying to figure out the syntax for this in C# using Visual Studio 2010. Here's a chunk of what I've got so far: string total_seconds = ((float.Parse(textBox_Hours.Text) * 60 * 60) + (float.Parse(textBox_Minutes.Text) * 60) + float.Parse(textBox_Seconds.Text)).ToString(); float secs_per_unit = ((float)(total_seconds) / (float)(textBox_Distance.Text)); float mins_per_unit = (secs_per_unit / 60); string pace_mins = (int)mins_per_unit.ToString(); string pace_secs = (float.Parse(mins_per_unit) - int.Parse(mins_per_unit) * 60).ToString(); textBox_Final_Mins.Text = pace_mins; textBox_Final_Secs.Text = pace_mins; Imagine you have a running pace of 8 minutes and 30 seconds per mile. secs_per_unit would be 510, mins_per_unit would be 8.5. pace_mins would simply be 8 and pace_secs would be 30. In Python I'd just convert variables from a float to a string to get 8 instead of 8.5, for example; hopefully the rest of the code gives you an idea of what I've been doing. Any input would be appreciated.

• EF 4 Self Tracking Entities does not work as expected.

  I am using EF4 Self Tracking Entities (VS2010 Beta 2 CTP 2 plus new T4 generator). But when I try to update entity information it does not update to database as expected. • Dynamically class creating by using Java Reflection, java.lang.ClassNotFoundException

  Hi all; i want to use reflection in java, i want to do that third class will read the name of the class as String from console. Upon reading the name of the class, it will automatically and dynamically (!) generate that class and call its writeout method. If that class is not read from input, it will not be initialized. I wrote that codes but i am always taking to "java.lang.Class.Not.Found.Exception", and i don't know how i can fix it. • What's wrong with my object tag to embed a Java Applet?

  Here is my object tag. <object classid="java:my.full.class.Name.class" height="360" width="320"> <param name="type" value="application/x-java-applet"> <param name="archive" value="applets.jar"> <param name="file" value="/report_files/1-1272041330710YAIwK"> <param name="codebase" value="/applets"> </object> When I run this in firefox it just shows up with an Error, click for details. The java console shows absolutely nothing. And at the bottom of fire fox is says "Applet my.full.class.Name notloaded". The Name.class file is in the applets.jar file. I can type the URL /applets/applets.jar and access the jar file. So whats wrong? EDIT: I can access the param file as well, although I don't believe that is the issue. EDIT: I updated the tag because I noticed in my HTML logs it wasn't looking in the right place. Still nothing though

• Multiple websites, Single sign-on design

  Hi all, I have a question. A client I have been doing some work recently has a range of websites with different login mechanisms. He is looking to slowly migrate to a single sign-on mechanism for his websites (all written in asp.net mvc). I am looking at my options here, so here is a list of requirements: 1) It has to be secure (duh) 2) It needs to support extra user properties over and above the usual name, address stuff (such as money or credits for a user) 3) It has to provide a centralized user management web console for his convenience (I understand that this will be a small project on top of whatever design solution I choose to go for) 4) It has to integrate with the existing websites without re-engineering the whole product (I understand that this depends on the current product implementation). 5) It has to deal with emailing the user when he registers (in order for him to activate his account) 6) It has to deal with activating the user when he clicks the activate me link in the email (I understand that 5 and 6 require some form of email templating system to support different emails per application) I was thinking of creating a library working together with forms authentication that exposes whatever methods are required (e.g. login, logout, activate, etc. and a small restful service to implement activation from email, registration processing etc. Taking into account that loads of things have been left out to make this question brief and to the point, does this sound like a good design? But this looks like a very common problem so arent there any existing projects that I could use? Thanks for reading.

• Controller changes format on variables when publishing

  I am a newbie to ROR but catching on quickly. I have been working on this problem for a couple of hours now and it seems like a bug. I does not make any sense. I have not touched the controller after generating it through scaffold, i.e. it is the standard controller with show, index etc. Now. When I enter data into the database, either through the web form, in rails console or directly in the database - such as www.domain.com for url or 500 for adsense - it will be created in the db without problem. However, when it is being published on the website the variables go completely nuts. Adsense (integer) turns into date, url (string) turns into a float, and so on. This only happens to a few of the variables. This will also create a problem with "argument out of range" since I input 500 and Rails will try to output it as date = crash and "argument out of range". So, how do I fix/trouble shoot this? Why do the formats change? Could it be because of the respond_to in the controller? Cheers, Christoffer

• Parsing a JSON feed from YQL using jQuery

  I am using YQL's query.multi to grab multiple feeds so I can parse a single JSON feed with jQuery and reduce the number of connections I'm making. In order to parse a single feed, I need to be able to check the type of result (photo, item, entry, etc) so I can pull out items in specific ways. Because of the way the items are nested within the JSON feed, I'm not sure the best way to loop through the results and check the type and then loop through the items to display them. • What is a good automated data import method for SQL Server?

  I'm in the process of porting some SQL Server 2005 databases to SQL Server 2008. One of these databases has an associated import application (Windows task) which uses SSIS with a DTS package to import a large dataset from an MS Access database nightly. In upgrading to SQL Server 2008, I discovered that I can't run the same console application which has been performing the imports due to the missing manageddts DLL in SQL Server 2008. It's several years old and in need of a rewrite for various reason, plus, I've been fairly unhappy with DTS in general. The original reason DTS was chosen was for speed (5 min import time compared to 30+ for ADO.NET). The format of the data to import is out of my control (the client likes Access). I would also like to be able to run the import from a machine completely separate from the server hosting SQL Server and preferably with minimal SQL features installed. Options I've considered: Creating an Access application to connect to both databases (SQL Server and Access) and perform the import (Ugh!) Revisiting ADO.NET to see if the original implementation was poorly written. Updated SSIS packages. What other technologies should I be considering for this job?

• Initializing Detail View from nib with parameters passed from Root View

  I'm have a map view with a number of annotations on it... once the callout is clicked, i need to pass several parameters to the DetailViewController, so ive been trying to do this through the constructor. I've debugged a bit and discovered that the arguments are being passed properly and are being received as expected within the constructor, but for some reason whenever I try to change the values of the IBOutlets I've positioned in the nib, it never has an effect. Here's what im passing (btw, im getting a "No initWithNibName : bundle : header' method found" warning at this line): DetailViewController *dvc = [[DetailViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"DetailViewController" bundle:nil header:headerText]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:dvc animated:YES]; Now heres my constructor: - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil header:(UILabel*)headerLabel { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { self.headerTextView = headerLabel; NSLog(@"header:%@", headerLabel.text); } return self; } Once again, the problem is that headerLabel.text is printed properly in the console, but the line self.headerTextView = headerLabel; doesnt seem to be doing what I want it to do.
