  • python optparse, how to include additional info in usage output?

    - by CarpeNoctem
Using python's optparse module I would like to add extra example lines below the regular usage output. My current help_print() output looks like this: usage: check_dell.py [options] options: -h, --help show this help message and exit -s, --storage checks virtual and physical disks -c, --chassis checks specified chassis components I would like it to include usage examples for the less *nix literate users at my work. Something like this: usage: check_dell.py [options] options: -h, --help show this help message and exit -s, --storage checks virtual and physical disks -c, --chassis checks specified chassis components Examples: check_dell -c all check_dell -c fans memory voltage check_dell -s How would I accomplish this? What optparse options allow for such? Current code: import optparse def main(): parser = optparse.OptionParser() parser.add_option('-s', '--storage', action='store_true', default=False, help='checks virtual and physical disks') parser.add_option('-c', '--chassis', action='store_true', default=False, help='checks specified chassis components') (opts, args) = parser.parse_args()

  • importing a project into a svn repository question

    - by ajsie
im using netbeans for svn. i open a project in netbeans and then i import it to a svn repo. it seems that although im only importing the project folder, svn creates .svn folders in all folders within this project folder. why is that? i thought that i was only creating .svn folders to checked out projects, not imported ones? now this folder acts very weird, when i open this folder as a project in netbeans, netbeans treats it like a svn folder some way. is this normal? cause i want this one to not be under SVN.

  • Include Problem with Objective-C++ and OpenGL

    - by Stephen Furlani
Hello, I feel silly asking this but I've searched for 'include problems' and have only come up with basic stuff. I'm working with an API that includes/imports in their header files (ARGH! HATE ANGER DESTRUCTION). One of these Obj-C files #import "OpenGL/CGLMacros.h" which #define's things like glMatrixMode(...); In my code I need the glMatrixMode(...); from #include "OpenGL/gl.h" but it won't access it! I can't edit the headers from the (poorly) coded API to put the includes in their definition files. What can I do? If the CGLMacros.h file starts out like /* Copyright: (c) 1999 by Apple Computer, Inc., all rights reserved. */ #ifndef _CGLMACRO_H #define _CGLMACRO_H Can I put a #define _CGLMACRO_H before I include the offending API header file? -Stephen

  • How to get current date and time from DB using SQLAlchemy

    - by bluish
I need to retrieve what's the current date and time for the database I'm connected with SQLAlchemy (not date and time of the machine where I'm running Python code). I've seen this functions, but they don't seem to do what they say: >>> from sqlalchemy import * >>> print func.current_date() CURRENT_DATE >>> print func.current_timestamp() CURRENT_TIMESTAMP Moreover it seems they don't need to be binded to any SQLAlchemy session or engine. It makes no sense... Thanks!

  • Using Hive in a maven project

    - by Jason
I have a project that I am migrating from ant to maven. The project makes use of a lightly-customized Hive build. I figured I would just import this build into our internal maven repo and list it as a dependency in the project's pom file. The problem I'm running into is that the Hive build just generates a bunch of jars in build/dist/lib. Some of these are the core Hive jars themselves and some are jars that Hive depends on. What's the best way to deal with these? Should I put all the core hive jars into our internal repo and just deal with undocumented dependencies in the new project's pom file? Or just jar up everything as a jar of jars and deploy that to the repo? Would that approach even work? Kind of a maven newbie still, thanks for any help.

  • Processing file uploads before object is saved

    - by Dominic Rodger
I've got a model like this: class Talk(BaseModel): title = models.CharField(max_length=200) mp3 = models.FileField(upload_to = u'talks/', max_length=200) seconds = models.IntegerField(blank = True, null = True) I want to validate before saving that the uploaded file is an MP3, like this: def is_mp3(path_to_file): from mutagen.mp3 import MP3 audio = MP3(path_to_file) return not audio.info.sketchy Once I'm sure I've got an MP3, I want to save the length of the talk in the seconds attribute, like this: audio = MP3(path_to_file) self.seconds = audio.info.length The problem is, before saving, the uploaded file doesn't have a path (see this ticket, closed as wontfix), so I can't process the MP3. I'd like to raise a nice validation error so that ModelForms can display a helpful error ("You idiot, you didn't upload an MP3" or something). Any idea how I can go about accessing the file before it's saved? p.s. If anyone knows a better way of validating files are MP3s I'm all ears - I also want to be able to mess around with ID3 data (set the artist, album, title and probably album art, so I need it to be processable by mutagen).

  • Clear command line output from Python [Eclipse]

    - by Tomas Lycken
I'm using Eclipse for writing Python, and I want to be able to easily clear the screen. I've seen this question, and tried (among other things suggested there) the following solution import os def clear(): os.system('cls' if os.name == 'nt' else 'clear') but it doesn't entirely solve my problem. Instead of clearing the screen, the routine prints a small square (as if wanting to print an unknown character) to the command output window in Eclipse. Typing cls in the command line works perfectly fine, as does running a Python script with the above code from command line. But how can I make it look nice in Eclipse as well?

  • How to use third party themes in swing application?

    - by swift
    I want to use some third party themes (like synthetica http://www.javasoft.de/synthetica/themes/) in my swing appliaction. i am using eclipse ide, got the jar file of theme and did the following modification(according to the readme file from the theme) in my code try { UIManager.setLookAndFeel(new SyntheticaBlackMoonLookAndFeel()); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } but after this modification its showing the following error The type de.javasoft.plaf.synthetica.SyntheticaLookAndFeel cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files what does this mean? i tried searching on net but cant really find any useful answers Contents of Readme file: System Requirements =================== Java SE 5 (JRE 1.5.0) or above Synthetica V2.2.0 or above Integration =========== 1. Ensure that your classpath contains all Synthetica libraries (including Synthetica's core library 'synthetica.jar'). 2. Enable the Synthetica Look and Feel at startup time in your application: import de.javasoft.plaf.synthetica.SyntheticaBlackMoonLookAndFeel; try { UIManager.setLookAndFeel(new SyntheticaBlackMoonLookAndFeel()); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }

  • Can I fill in an encypted PDF with iTextSharp?

    - by Cmpalmer
I have a fillable, saveable PDF file that has an owner password (that I don't have access to). I can fill it out in Adobe reader, export the FDF file, modify the FDF file, and then import it. Then I tried to do it with iText(Sharp). I can't create a PdfStamper from my PdfReader because I didn't provide the owner password to the reader. Is there any way to do this programmatically or must I recreate the document? Even using FdfReader requires a PdfStamper. Am I missing anything? Anything legal that is - I'm pretty sure I could hack the document, but I can't. Ironically, recreating it would probably be ok.

  • SQL Server join and wildcards

    - by Ernst
I want to get the results of a left join between two tables, with both having a column of the same name, the column on which I join. The following query is seen as valid by the import/export wizard in SQL Server, but it always gives an error. I have some more conditions, so the size wouldn't be too much. We're using SQL Server 2000 iirc and since we're using an externally developed program to interact with the database (except for some information we can't retrieve that way), we can not simply change the column name. SELECT table1.*, table2.* FROM table1 LEFT JOIN table2 ON table1.samename = table2.samename At least, I think the column name is the problem, or am I doing something else wrong?

  • Whats the scope of a c function defined within objective-c class?

    - by roja
I was reading up about bypassing objective-c's messaging to gain performance (irrelevant to this specific question) when i found an interesting bit of code: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface Fib : NSObject { } - (long long) cFib: (NSUInteger) number; @end @implementation Fib // c implementation of fib long long cFibIMP(NSUInteger number) { return (number < 3) ? 1 : cFib(number - 1) + cFib(number - 2); } // method wrapper for c implementation of fib - (long long) cFib: (NSUInteger) number { return cFibIMP(number); } @end My question is; when using c function, within an objective-c object, what scope is the c function (cFibIMP in this particular case) placed in? Does the objective-c class encapsulate the c function removing change of name-clash or is the c function simply dumped into the global scope of the whole objective-c program?

  • Objective C -- property lists or text files?

    - by William Jockusch
I need to import a list of about 40,000 words into my Iphone app. The list will be the same every time the app starts. It seems that property lists and text files are reasonable options. Any reason to prefer one over the other? For reasons I don't understand, finder says the property list on my mac is 1MB, while the text file is only 328K. The property list is an NSMutableArray of NSMutableArrays of NSStrings. The text file is a plain txt file. But amount of time the app takes to start up is also important. If I read in a text file, my app would have to do some simple processing on it each time it starts. Thanks.

  • Parsing JSON file with Python -> google map api

    - by Hannes
Hi all, I am trying to get started with JSON in Python, but it seems that I misunderstand something in the JSON concept. I followed the google api example, which works fine. But when I change the code to a lower level in the JSON response (as shown below, where I try to get access to the location), I get the following error message for code below: Traceback (most recent call last): File "geoCode.py", line 11, in test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) KeyError: 'location' How can I get access to lower information level in the JSON file in python? Do I have to go to a higher level and search the result string? That seems very weird to me? Here is the code I have tried to run: import urllib, json URL2 = "http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=1600+Amphitheatre+Parkway,+Mountain+View,+CA&sensor=false" googleResponse = urllib.urlopen(URL2); jsonResponse = json.loads(googleResponse.read()) test = json.dumps([s['location'] for s in jsonResponse['results']], indent=3) print test Thank you for your responses.

  • Scala - Enumeration vs. Case-Classes

    - by tzofia
I've created akka actor called LogActor. The LogActors's receive method handling messages from other actors and logging them to the specified log level. I can distinguish between the different levels in 2 ways. The first one: import LogLevel._ object LogLevel extends Enumeration { type LogLevel = Value val Error, Warning, Info, Debug = Value } case class LogMessage(level : LogLevel, msg : String) The second: (EDIT) abstract class LogMessage(msg : String) case class LogMessageError(msg : String) extends LogMessage(msg) case class LogMessageWarning(msg : String) extends LogMessage(msg) case class LogMessageInfo(msg : String) extends LogMessage(msg) case class LogMessageDebug(msg : String) extends LogMessage(msg) Which way is more efficient? does it take less time to match case class or to match enum value? (I read this question but there isn't any answer referring to the runtime issue)

  • Binomial test in Python

    - by Morlock
I need to do a binomial test in Python that allows calculation for 'n' numbers of the order of 10000. I have implemented a quick binomial_test function using scipy.misc.comb, however, it is pretty much limited around n = 1000, I guess because it reaches the biggest representable number while computing factorials or the combinatorial itself. Here is my function: from scipy.misc import comb def binomial_test(n, k): """Calculate binomial probability """ p = comb(n, k) * 0.5**k * 0.5**(n-k) return p How could I use a native python (or numpy, scipy...) function in order to calculate that binomial probability? If possible, I need scipy 0.7.2 compatible code. Many thanks!

  • How to give an error when no options are given with optparse

    - by Acorn
I'm try to work out how to use optparse, but I've come to a problem. My script (represented by this simplified example) takes a file, and does different things to it depending on options that are parsed to it. If no options are parsed nothing is done. It makes sense to me that because of this, an error should be given if no options are given by the user. I can't work out how to do this. Am I using options in the wrong way? If so, how should I be doing it instead? #!/usr/bin/python from optparse import OptionParser dict = {'name': foo, 'age': bar} parser = OptionParser() parser.add_option("-n", "--name", dest="name") parser.add_option("-a", "--age", dest="age") (options, args) = parser.parse_args() if options.name: dict['name'] = options.name if options.age: dict['age'] = options.age print dict #END

  • Variable alpha blending in pylab

    - by Hooked
How does one control the transparency over a 2D image in pylab? I'd like to give two sets of values (X,Y,Z,T) where X,Y are arrays of positions, Z is the color value, and T is the transparency to a function like imshow but it seems that the function only takes alpha as a scalar. As a concrete example, consider the code below that attempts to display two Gaussians. The closer the value is to zero, the more transparent I'd like the plot to be. from pylab import * side = linspace(-1,1,100) X,Y = meshgrid(side, side) extent = (-1,1,-1,1) Z1 = exp(-((X+.5)**2+Y**2)) Z2 = exp(-((X-.5)**2+(Y+.2)**2)) imshow(Z1, cmap=cm.hsv, alpha=.6, extent=extent) imshow(Z2, cmap=cm.hsv, alpha=.6, extent=extent) show() Note: I am not looking for a plot of Z1+Z2 (that would be trivial) but for a general way to specify the alpha blending across an image.

  • XML RSS to HTML parser doesn't work

    - by mstr
I'm using MCX (I don't even know if someone here is familiar with it, pretty unkown derivate of COBOL and Fortran, look it up in google when you don't believe me) Note: I'm using MCX on the MCX-WebServices server as it does neither support apache or ISS, mabye that is one problem. The thing is that I want to use the XML library to read in an XML file and convert it into an output format readable by the user. The XML lib already has all the functions I need for that, yet my program fails. #!usr/bin/mcx $PGRM.ID: index.mcx $PGRM.AT: /mstr SHOWERROR: WRITE XML.LastError --> OUTPUT DO_FLUSH xcit end\ MAIN: IMPORT Extras.XML USE Extras $XML_RSS_FILE: XML.ReadIn "rss.xml" ! $XML_RSS_FILE --> GOTO SHOWERROR $XML_RSS: XML.FormatRSS1 <-- $XML_RSS_FILE ! $XML_RSS --> GOTO SHOWERROR WRITE $XML_RSS --> OUTPUT DO_FLUSH FLUSH xcit end\ Program output: Nothing The rss.xml file 100% exists and is readable Thanks in advance

  • Bitmap files added in .rc not listed in resource.h

    - by ame
I added a large number of bitmap files to my MFC project in resource view (Visual Studio). However, the resource.h file does not list any of these files. I would want them to be listed with exactly the same name as they are added in .rc bitmap list (say the name is xxx) I want it listed as #define IDB_xxx If I try to click on the bitmap in the .rc list and import it, it gets listed as IDB_BITMAP1. Owing to the large number of files it is not feasible for me to manually rename them for use in my code.

  • Why can't my main class see the array in my calender class

    - by Rocky Celltick Eadie
    This is a homework problem. I'm already 5 days late and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.. this is my 1st semester in Java and my first post on this site Here is the assignment.. Create a class called Calendar. The class should contain a variable called events that is a String array. The array should be created to hold 5 elements. Use a constant value to specify the array size. Do not hard code the array size. Initialize the array in the class constructor so that each element contains the string “ – No event planned – “. The class should contain a method called CreateEvent. This method should accept a String argument that contains a one-word user event and an integer argument that represents the day of the week. Monday should be represented by the number 1 and Friday should be represented by the number 5. Populate the events array with the event info passed into the method. Although the user will input one-word events, each event string should prepend the following string to each event: event_dayAppoinment: (where event_day is the day of the week) For example, if the user enters 1 and “doctor” , the first array element should read: Monday Appointment: doctor If the user enters 2 and “PTA” , the second array element should read: Tuesday Appointment: PTA Write a driver program (in a separate class) that creates and calls your Calendar class. Then use a loop to gather user input. Ask for the day (as an integer) and then ask for the event (as a one word string). Pass the integer and string to the Calendar object’s CreateEvent method. The user should be able enter 0 – 5 events. If the user enters -1, the loop should exit and your application should print out all the events in a tabular format. Your program should not allow the user to enter invalid values for the day of the week. Any input other than 1 – 5 or -1 for the day of the week would be considered invalid. Notes: When obtaining an integer from the user, you will need to use the nextInt() method on your Scanner object. When obtaining a string from a user, you will need to use the next() method on your Scanner object. Here is my code so far.. //DRIVER CLASS /** * * @author Rocky */ //imports scanner import java.util.Scanner; //begin class driver public class driver { /** * @paramargs the command line arguments */ //begin main method public static void main(String[] args) { //initiates scanner Scanner userInput = new Scanner (System.in); //declare variables int dayOfWeek; String userEvent; //creates object for calender class calendercalenderObject = new calender(); //user prompt System.out.println("Enter day of week for your event in the following format:"); System.out.println("Enter 1 for Monday"); System.out.println("Enter 2 for Tuesday"); System.out.println("Enter 3 for Wednsday"); System.out.println("Enter 4 for Thursday"); System.out.println("Enter 5 for Friday"); System.out.println("Enter -1 to quit"); //collect user input dayOfWeek = userInput.nextInt(); //user prompt System.out.println("Please type in the name of your event"); //collect user input userEvent = userInput.next(); //begin while loop while (dayOfWeek != -1) { //test for valid day of week if ((dayOfWeek>=1) && (dayOfWeek<=5)){ //calls createEvent method in calender class and passes 2 variables calenderObject.createEvent(userEvent,dayOfWeek); } else { //error message System.out.println("You have entered an invalid number"); //user prompts System.out.println("Press -1 to quit or enter another day"); System.out.println("Enter 1 for Monday"); System.out.println("Enter 2 for Tuesday"); System.out.println("Enter 3 for Wednsday"); System.out.println("Enter 4 for Thursday"); System.out.println("Enter 5 for Friday"); System.out.println("Enter -1 to quit"); //collect user input dayOfWeek = userInput.nextInt(); //end data validity test } //end while loop } //prints array to screen int i=0; for (i=0;i<events.length;i++){ System.out.println(events[i]); } //end main method } } /** * * @author Rocky */ //imports scanner import java.util.Scanner; //begin calender class public class calender { //creates events array String[] events = new String[5]; //begin calender class constructor public calender() { //Initializes array String[] events = {"-No event planned-","-No event planned-","-No event planned-","-No event planned-","-No event planned-"}; //end calender class constructor } //begin createEvent method public String[] createEvent (String userEvent, int dayOfWeek){ //Start switch test switch (dayOfWeek){ case 1: events[0] = ("Monday Appoinment:") + userEvent; break; case 2: events[1] = ("Tuesday Appoinment:") + userEvent; break; case 3: events[2] = ("WednsdayAppoinment:") + userEvent; break; case 4: events[3] = ("Thursday Appoinment:") + userEvent; break; case 5: events[4] = ("Friday Appoinment:") + userEvent; break; default: break; //End switch test } //returns events array return events; //end create event method } //end calender class }

  • Python os.path.join

    - by Jim
Hello, I am trying to learn python and am making a program that will output a script. I want to use os.path.join but am pretty confused (I know I am very bad at scripting/programming) See, according to the docs ( http://docs.python.org/library/os.path.html ) if I say os.path.join('c:', 'sourcedir') I get C:sourcedir as it's output. According to the docs, this is normal (right?) But when I use the copytree command, Python will output it the desired way, for example import shutil src = os.path.join('c:', 'src') dst = os.path.join('c':', 'dst') shutil.copytree(src, dst) Here is the error code I get WindowsError: [Error 3] The system cannot find the path specified: 'C:src/.' If I wrap the os.path.join with os.path.normpath I get the same error If this os.path.join can't be used this way, then I am confused as to its purpose According to the pages suggested by Stack Overflow, slashes should not be used in join--that is correct I assume? Thanks guys(girls) for your help
