    Java.net, the home of  Java community projects, has been re-launched with a new look and new tools for developers.  The move from CollabNet to the Kenai infrastructure offers more flexibility for developers who want to host or contribute to community projects.  Instead of the large, fixed infrastructure per project (for example, several mailing lists per project), Kenai's ala carte features allow users to take only what they need. "We will continue to have the great mix of blogs, forums, and editorial content as well as new tools on the project side, including Mercurial, Git, and JIRA for developers," Java.net Community Manager Sonya Barry explains. The migration was huge effort. Over 1400 projects were migrated (and some 30 projects are left to go). A large part of the migration was a big cleanup of abandoned projects. With the high abandonment rate of open source projects, the was a lot to remove. The new java.net site is smaller, faster and now the percentage of good, current content is much higher.Check it out at http://home.java.net/

    How can I find out which Java binary I should install on my Linux server? In Java download page I see: Linux x64 - Self Extracting Installer and Linux x86 - Self Extracting Installer. Running uname -a I get: Linux 2.6.26-2-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Aug 19 22:33:18 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux But the result confuses me, it has both numbers 64 and 86 in it so I still don't know which binary should I take. Could you help me out?

  • Java EE @ NFJS Central Iowa Software Symposium Des Moines

    As some of you may be aware I recently joined the well-respected US based No Fluff Just Stuff (NFJS) Tour. The NFJS Central Iowa Software Symposium was held August 8 - 10 in Des Moines. The Des Moines show is one of the smaller ones but still was good overall. It is one of the few events of it's kind that take place this part the country so it is extremely important. I had five talks total over two days, more or less back-to-back. I had decent attendance for all my sessions and had many of the same folks staying for multiple sessions which is always a very good sign. I did talks on Java EE 7/Java EE 8, WebSocket, the Cargo Tracker Java EE Blue Prints, JavaScript + Java EE and NoSQL + Java EE.     I have an interface ProductService with method findByCriteria. This method had a long list of nullable parameters, like productName, maxCost, minCost, producer and so on. I refactored this method by introducing Parameter Object. I created class SearchCriteria and now method signature looks like this: findByCriteria (SearchCriteria criteria) I thought that instances of SearchCriteria are only created by method callers and are only used inside findByCriteria method, i.e.: void processRequest() { SearchCriteria criteria = new SearchCriteria () .withMaxCost (maxCost) ....... .withProducer (producer); List<Product> products = productService.findByCriteria (criteria); .... } and List<Product> findByCriteria(SearchCriteria criteria) { return doSmthAndReturnResult(criteria.getMaxCost(), criteria.getProducer()); } So I did not want to create separate public class for SearchCriteria and put it inside ProductServiceInterface: public interface ProductService { List<Product> findByCriteria (SearchCriteria criteria); static class SearchCriteria { ... } } Is there anything bad in this interface?     I have the following base interface public interface IHandler{ void Handle(IMessage message); } and an generic interface inheriting the base interface public interface IHandler<TMessage> : IHandler where TMessage : IMessage{ void Handle(TMessage message); } My classes can implement the interface IHandler<TMessage> mutiple times. IMessage is an base interface for messages and isn´t relevant here. Currently i´m implementing the interfaces as follows. public class ExampleHandler : IHandler<ExampleMessage>, IHandler<OtherExampleMessag>{ void IHandler.Handle(IMessage message){ ExampleMessage example = message as ExampleMessage; if (example != null) { Handle(example); } else { OtherExampleMessage otherExample = message as OtherExampleMessage; if (otherExample != null) { Handle(otherExample); } } public void Handle(ExampleMessage) { //handle message; } public void Handle(OtherExampleMessage) { //handle message; } } What bothers me is the way i have to implement the Handle(IMessage) method, cause in my opinion its many redundant code, and i have to extend the method each time when i implement a new IHandler<TMessage> interface on my class. What i´m looking for is a more generic way to implement the Handle(IMessage) method (maybe in a base class for Handlers), but i´m currently stuck how to do that.

  • Java+DOM: How do I convert a DOM tree without namespaces to a namespace-aware DOM tree?

    Hello, everyone! I receive a Document (DOM tree) from a certain API (not in JDK). Sadly, this Document is not namespace-aware. As far as I know DOM, once generated, namespace-awareness can't be "added" afterwards. When converting this Document using a Transformer to a string, the XML is correct. Elements have xmlns:... attributes and name prefixes. But from the DOM point of view, there are no namespaces and no prefixes. I need to be able to convert this Document into a new Document which is namespace-aware. Yes, I could do this by just converting it to a string and back to DOM with namespaces enabled. But: nodes of the original tree have user-objects set. Converting to string and back would make a mapping of these user-objects to the new Document very complicated, if not impossible. So I really need a way to convert non-namespace DOM to namespace DOM. Are there any more-or-less straightforward solutions for this? Worst case (what I'm hoping to avoid) would be to manually iterate through old Document tree and create new namespace-aware Node for each old Node. Doing so, one had to manually "parse" namespace prefixes, watch out for xmlns-attributes, and maintain a mapping between prefixes and namespace-URIs. Lots of things to go wrong.

    Whenever I put my component into COM+ and call CoCreateInstance() on the client the following happens: the runtime instantiates the objecs (calls IClassFactory::CreateInstance()) the runtime calls QueryInterface() for the interface specified in teh CoCreateInstance() call the runtime calls QueryInterface() for IdentityUnmarshal interface ({0000001b-0000-0000-c000-000000000046}) The only thing I can find is the declaration in comdef.h that there exists IdentityUnmarshal interface with that interface id. Is there any more information on it?

    I have installed the RTnet over Xenomai. RTnet compiled well, and I also tested loopback on the single machine and was able to ping. However I noticed ./rtnet start showing the following output: What should I interpret when all it says is "no such device"?     Hello, I'm facing a frustrating issue. I have an application where the scroll wheel doesn't work in a JDialog class. Is there a way to parametrize the task getEclipseClasspath so it only gets the jars, not the projects?
