  • Writing email sniffer

    Hello, I am interested in writing an email sniffer that saves all emails sent via web based clients to hd, but I can't work out how to do this. How can I catch HTTPS mail before it is encrypted? I would really appriciate some useful info. I cannot find anything information on the web. There's a program called HTTP Analyzer V5 that does the exact thing I want to make. How should I start? If I make a packet sniffer, it's useless because all data is encrypted. Is there any other option?

    Using javascript, I need to parse the Content-Type text/html portion of an email message and extract just the HTML part. Here's an example of the part of the mail source in question: ------=_Part_1504541_510475628.1327512846983 Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <html ... a bunch of html ... /html> I want to extract everything between (and including) the <html> tags after text/html. How do I do this? NOTE: I'm OK with a hacky regex. I don't expect this to be bulletproof.

    I successfully implemented an application that works on ipad as well as on iphone. In that I provided option to user to send the screen shot of the application as mail attachment. Even that is functioning well. But my code is taking screen shot irrespective of orientation. The image i'm getting is always in portrait mode. I want to take the screen shot depending on the orientation of ipad/iphone and send the image as attachment. I'm using following code to take the screen shot. I'm developing a social networking site that will allow users to send an email to an email address that is for posting. This is the same thing Blogger does. This allows me to take a picture with my phone and send it to [email protected] and have it posted to my profile. The site is running IIS6 and I have full access to the server. Emails are currently being processed using the SMTP service that comes with Windows 2003 Server, but I can switch to another system without any issues. I am assuming I would have to somehow have the incoming emails either go into a folder that my application is watching or cause incoming emails to trigger a script. can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Litmus released an email analytics service last month (may 2010). See here: http://litmusapp.com/email-analytics They boast a very cool "read rate" tracking: they can track normal reads, Skims, and Glanced/Deleted. How can they track skims and glanced/deleted? This to me seems impossible :) They also track forwards and prints. Prints are easy (they include a css @media print query with a bg image). But forwards? I think this might be a combo between subsequent opens and different IPs/reffering URLs. However, this means that if I open my mail and re-read it from another computer, it counts as a forward. Any ideas on this one? To summarize: Litmus Email Analytics says they can track email reads, skims, glanced/deleted, prints and forwards. How do they do it (skims, glanced/deleted and forwards)?

    Our (small to medium-sized) company is going to start enforcing an internet policy which everyone, including the team of 4 senior developers, will be subject to. Amongst other things, this means that developers will not be able to access: web based e-mail (Hotmail, Yahoo, Googlemail) instant messaging accounts (MSN Messenger) social networking sites (Facebook) streaming media (internet radio) At the moment, we don't have any restrictions on our internet use, so I really want to find out what the effect on the team will be. Please let me know your thoughts. What effect do you think this will have on the team (positive or negative).

    I have a deposit page where people can deposit money on their accounts, but I would like to extend this with other payment methods and also I don't want to have certain information in the form visible to people (those who now how to manipulate form data using firebug). So I want to submit the form to a confirmation page where the data is processed and where new data is added like the paypal e-mail and the IPN link that needs to be send to, and only then redirected to paypal. is there php code I can use to submit the form immediatly once the data is processed? or should this be done in the meta tag or something like that?

I am sending link to my user through mail, now I want to send each user a specific URL. so instead of sending the clear text I want to send link with encrypted string URL, which I will decrypt on my home page.   • UI Guidelines for Android Honeycomb on Tablets

    The UI in Android Honeycomb is very different. I'm looking for things that have changed that would be of interest to developers. Google hasn't updated it's UI guidelines yet, so I am trying to find this stuff out by inspecting the layouts. I am mainly interested in dimensions of icons and new types of views. The action bar height is 56dp (?android:attr/actionBarSize). It seems that the menu icons are 32 x 32 dp now, they were 48 x 48 dp before. Since they are in the action bar, they have a lot of padding around them. The size of a menu icon with padding is 64 x 56 dp. I needed this since I was trying to put a ProgressBar as a menu item. Anything else change? Also, I'm interested in the size of some common UI patterns, like the widths for a list/detail layout like the mail client.

  • Trying to Install Rails 3

    I'm trying to install Rails 3 on a brand new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.3, Ruby 1.8.7, and Rails 2.3.5 and I'm wondering if I've hosed myself. So far, I've run these commands: $ gem update --system $ gem install arel tzinfo builder memcache-client rack rack-test rack-mount erubis mail text-format thor bundler i18n $ gem install rails --pre However, when I run the last command, I get this error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/bin directory. I think it wants me to run the command with sudo so that it can write over /usr/bin/rails. But if I do that, won't I be overwriting my Rails 2.3.5 executable? I don't want to do that. Instead, I'd like to keep both versions of Rails. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    hi i have added openid login with Yahoo! and Google in my site. it is ok and works fine. when users select for example Yahoo! to login to my site, they will be logged in in their yahoo mail account too. i think it is not secure because maybe they don't notice to this issue and leave computer while their email account is availble. what do you think about this and what is your solution for your own sites? as i notice the same story is for stackoverflow.com.

  • iPhone not returning to application after calling eMail send

    I am sending an email from within my iPhone application. The eMail page pops up ok, I click on the Send button, the iPhone plays a whoosh sound, and the eMail actually arrives at the recipient. Unfortunately, the mail dialog still sits there unresponsive, and the only option - to click the home button - kills the app. Is there something else that needs to be specified to close the eMailMessage view? The HTML inside each of those boxes is an absolute nightmare, and even worse, the source code is compressed and it's unclear what the path of execution is.   • Is there a chance that sending an email via a thread could ever fail to complete?

    I have a project where I send a couple of emails via a seperet thread, to speed up the process for the end-user. It works successfully, but i was just wondering whether there were any potfalls that i might not have considered? My greatest fear is that the user clicks a button, it says that the message has been sent (as it will have been sent to the thread for sending) but for some reason the thread might fail to send it. Are there any situations where a thread could be aborted prematurely? Please note, that i am not talking about network outages or obvious issues with an email recipient not existing. For simplicites sake please assume that the connect is up, the mail server alive and the recipient valid. Is it possible, for example, for the thread to abort prematurely if the user kills the browser before the thread has completed? This might be a silly question, but i just wanted to make sure i knew the full ramifications of using a thread in this manner. Thanks, in advance, for your help.

    Since there are so many valid characters for email addresses, are there any valid email addresses that can in themselves be XSS attacks or SQL injections? I couldn't find any information on this on the web. The local-part of the e-mail address may use any of these ASCII characters: Uppercase and lowercase English letters (a–z, A–Z) Digits 0 to 9 Characters ! # $ % & ' * + - / = ? ^ _ ` { | } ~ Character . (dot, period, full stop) provided that it is not the last character, and provided also that it does not appear two or more times consecutively (e.g. [email protected]). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_address#RFC_specification I'm not asking how to prevent these attacks (I'm already using parametrized queries and HTML purifier), this is more a proof-of-concept. The first thing that came to mind was 'OR [email protected], except that spaces are not allowed. Do all SQL injections require spaces?

  • How to make/monitor/deploy daemon processes in JRuby

    I'm currently porting a Rails App currently using REE to JRuby so I can offer an easy-to-install JRuby alternative. I've bundled the app into a WAR file using Bundler which I'm currently deploying to GlassFish. However, this app has a couple of daemon processes and it would be ideal if these could be part of the WAR file, and potentially monitored by Glassfish (if possible). I've looked at QuartzScheduler, and while meets my needs for a couple of things, I have a daemon process that must execute every 20 seconds as it's polling the database for any delayed mail to send. If anyone can provide any insight as to how best to set up daemon processes in a JRuby/Java/Glassfish environment any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

I sent an e-mail asking to become a contributor to the listed project manager last week but still haven't received a response. The project is licensed under the GNU GPL v2. I would like to contribute to the current project but that doesn't appear to be possible. Can I modify the current source version of the project and release this modified project? I would keep the same license on the modified project.

    I have a php mail script sitting on a LAMP vps server. The script grabs about 1000 emails and sends them each an html email. I tested the script with about half a dozen of my own test email accounts and things worked fine. But I am concerned something may go wrong when I actually use this script for 1000 emails. Some things I would like to test for are 1) Confirm all 1000 emails were sent and received 2) Test to make sure emails did not end up in people's spam folders 3) Detect any other general failures Does anyone have suggestions on how I can test for the above cases? I would like to read about your experiences building batch email scripts.

So, if developer asks for leave then first leave request should be sent to Team Leader (mail notification to Team Leader and Project Manager) and once TL approves Leave then automaitically request sent to Project Manager for second level approval. With openERP 6.1, there is no possibility to approve leave by Team Leader unless and until Team Leader is specified as a HR manager which is inappropriate. Anybody have any solution then let me know.   • Automatic upload of 10KB file to web service?

    I am writing an application, similar to Seti@Home, that allows users to run processing on their home machine, and then upload the result to the central server. However, the final result is maybe a 10K binary file. (Processing to achieve this output is several hours.) What is the simplest reliable automatic method to upload this file to the central server? What do I need to do server-side to prevent blocking? Perhaps having the client send mail is simple and reliable? NB the client program is currently written in Python, if that matters.
