• Vista/7: How to get glass color?

- by Ian Boyd
How do you use DwmGetColorizationColor? The documentation says it returns two values: a 32-bit 0xAARRGGBB containing the color used for glass composition a boolean parameter that is true "if the color is an opaque blend" (whatever that means) Here's a color that i like, a nice puke green: You can notice the color is greeny, and the translucent title bar (against a white background) shows the snot color very clearly: i try to get the color from Windows: DwmGetColorizationColor(dwCcolorization, bIsOpaqueBlend); And i get dwColorization: 0x0D0A0F04 bIsOpaqueBlend: false According to the documentation this value is of the format AARRGGBB, and so contains: AA: 0x0D (13) RR: 0x0A (10) GG: 0x0F (15) BB: 0x04 (4) This supposedly means that the color is (10, 15, 4), with an opacity of ~5.1%. But if you actually look at this RGB value, it's nowhere near my desired snot green. Here is (10, 15, 4) with zero opacity (the original color), and (10,15,4) with 5% opacity against a white/checkerboard background: So the question is: How to get glass color in Windows Vista/7? i tried using DwmGetColorizationColor, but that doesn't work very well. A person with same problem, but a nicer shiny picture to attract you squirrels: So, it boils down to – DwmGetColorizationColor is completely unusable for applications attempting to apply the current color onto an opaque surface. i love this guy's screenshots much better than mine. Using his screenshots as a template, i made up a few more sparklies: For the last two screenshots, the alpha blended chip is a true partially transparent PNG, blending to your browser's background. Cool! (i'm such a geek) Edit 2: Had to arrange them in rainbow color. (i'm such a geek) Edit 3: Well now i of course have to add Yellow. Undocumented/Unsupported/Fragile Workarounds There is an undocumented export from DwmApi.dll at entry point 137, which we'll call DwmGetColorizationParameters: HRESULT GetColorizationParameters_Undocumented(out DWMCOLORIZATIONPARAMS params); struct DWMCOLORIZATIONPARAMS { public UInt32 ColorizationColor; public UInt32 ColorizationAfterglow; public UInt32 ColorizationColorBalance; public UInt32 ColorizationAfterglowBalance; public UInt32 ColorizationBlurBalance; public UInt32 ColorizationGlassReflectionIntensity; public UInt32 ColorizationOpaqueBlend; } We're interested in the first parameter: ColorizationColor. We can also read the value out of the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM ColorizationColor: REG_DWORD = 0x6614A600 So you pick your poison of creating appcompat issues. You can rely on an undocumented API (which is bad, bad, bad, and can go away at any time) use an undocumented registry key (which is also bad, and can go away at any time) See also Is there a list of valid parameter combinations for GetThemeColor / Visual Styles API How does Windows change Aero Glass color? DWM - Colorization Color Handling Using DWMGetColorizationColor Retrieving Aero Glass base color for opaque surface rendering i've been wanting to ask this question for over a year now. i always knew that it's impossible to answer, and that the only way to get anyone to actually pay attention is to have colorful screenshots; developers are attracted to shiny things. But on the downside it means i had to put all kinds of work into making the lures.

• making java SingleFrameApplication to appear second

- by Karel Bílek
Sorry if this question will sound too chaotic, feel free to edit it. I have an application made entirely in netbeans, which uses SingleFrameApplication and auto-generated the GUI code, named "MyApp", and FrameView, named "MyView". Now, the MyApp somehow has the main() function, but the MyView has all the graphic elements.. I don't entirely understand how that happens, so used it as black box (it somehow created the window, I didn't have to care why). But now, I need the window to be only a window, opened by another JFrame. I don't know, how to accomplish that. MyApp, which is extending SingleFrameApplication, have these methods: public class MyApp extends SingleFrameApplication { @Override protected void startup() { show(new MyView(this)); } @Override protected void configureWindow(java.awt.Window root) { } public static MyApp getApplication() { return Application.getInstance(MyApp.class); } public static void main(String[] args) { launch(MyApp.class, args); } } MyView has these methods: public class MyView extends FrameView { public MyView(SingleFrameApplication app) { super(app); initComponents(); } private void initComponents() { //all the GUI stuff is somehow defined here } } Now, I have no clue how the two classes work, I just want this window, defined in MyView, to appear after another window, "ordinary" JFrame. How can I call this MyApp/MyView?

• ActionScript 3 class over several files - how?

- by Poni
So, how do we write a class over several files in action script 3? In C# there's the "partial" keyword. In C++ it's natural (you just "#include ..." all files). In Flex 3, in a component, you add this tag: <mx:Script source="myfile.as"/>. How do I split the following class into several files; package package_path { public class cSplitMeClass { public function cSplitMeClass() { } public function doX():void { // .... } public function doY():void { // .... } } } For example I want to have the doX() and doY() functions implemented in another ".as" file. Can I do this? And please, don't tell me something like "a good practice is to have them in one file" :)

• C# immutable object usage best practices? Should I be using them as much as possible?

- by Daniel
Say I have a simple object such as class Something { public int SomeInt { get; set; } } I have read that using immutable objects are faster and a better means of using business objects? If this is so, should i strive to make all my objects as such: class ImmutableSomething { public int SomeInt { get { return m_someInt; } } private int m_someInt = 0; public void ChangeSomeInt(int newValue) { m_someInt = newvalue; } } What do you reckon?

• How do you add a key handler to a GWT FlexTable?

- by Eric Landry
I'm trying to change the row highlighting in my FlexTable using KeyCodes.KEY_UP/DOWN. This doesn't seem to work (based on 1809155): public class KeyAwareFlexTable extends FlexTable implements KeyDownHandler, HasKeyDownHandlers { public KeyAwareFlexTable() { this.addKeyDownHandler(this); } @Override public void onKeyDown(KeyDownEvent event) { GWT.log("onKeyDown"); // check if up/down & do something useful } @Override public HandlerRegistration addKeyDownHandler(KeyDownHandler handler) { return addDomHandler(handler, KeyDownEvent.getType()); } } I've also tried this (based on this site): FlexTable table = new FlexTable() { @Override public void onBrowserEvent(Event event) { super.onBrowserEvent(event); GWT.log("Event type = " + DOM.eventGetType(event)); switch (DOM.eventGetType(event)) { case Event.ONKEYDOWN: if (DOM.eventGetKeyCode(event) == KeyCodes.KEY_UP) { GWT.log("up"); } else if (DOM.eventGetKeyCode(event) == KeyCodes.KEY_DOWN) { GWT.log("down"); } break; default: break; } } }; table.sinkEvents(Event.ONKEYDOWN); I'm looking for a way to have this behavior more or less. Does anybody have a way to do this in GWT?

• Binding UpdateSourceTrigger=Explicit, updates source at program startup

- by GTD
I have following code: <Window x:Class="WpfApplication1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Grid> <TextBox Text="{Binding Path=Name, Mode=OneWayToSource, UpdateSourceTrigger=Explicit, FallbackValue=default text}" KeyUp="TextBox_KeyUp" x:Name="textBox1"/> </Grid> public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void TextBox_KeyUp(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) { if (e.Key == Key.Enter) { BindingExpression exp = this.textBox1.GetBindingExpression(TextBox.TextProperty); exp.UpdateSource(); } } } public class ViewModel { public string Name { set { Debug.WriteLine("setting name: " + value); } } } public partial class App : Application { protected override void OnStartup(StartupEventArgs e) { base.OnStartup(e); Window1 window = new Window1(); window.DataContext = new ViewModel(); window.Show(); } } I want to update source only when "Enter" key is pressed in textbox. This works fine. However binding updates source at program startup. How can I avoid this? Am I missing something?

• Why doesn't my implementation of ElGamal work for long text strings?

- by angstrom91
I'm playing with the El Gamal cryptosystem, and my goal is to be able to encipher and decipher long sequences of text. I have come up with a method that works for short sequences, but does not work for long sequences, and I cannot figure out why. El Gamal requires the plaintext to be an integer. I have turned my string into a byte[] using the .getBytes() method for Strings, and then created a BigInteger out of the byte[]. After encryption/decryption, I turn the BigInteger into a byte[] using the .toByteArray() method for BigIntegers, and then create a new String object from the byte[]. This works perfectly when i call ElGamalEncipher with strings up to 129 characters. With 130 or more characters, the output produced from ElGamalDecipher is garbled. Can someone suggest how to solve this issue? Is this an issue with my method of turning the string into a BigInteger? If so, is there a better way to turn my string of text into a BigInteger and back? Below is my encipher/decipher code with a program to demonstrate the problem. import java.math.BigInteger; public class Main { static BigInteger P = new BigInteger("15893293927989454301918026303382412" + "2586402937727056707057089173871237566896685250125642378268385842" + "6917261652781627945428519810052550093673226849059197769795219973" + "9423619267147615314847625134014485225178547696778149706043781174" + "2873134844164791938367765407368476144402513720666965545242487520" + "288928241768306844169"); static BigInteger G = new BigInteger("33234037774370419907086775226926852" + "1714093595439329931523707339920987838600777935381196897157489391" + "8360683761941170467795379762509619438720072694104701372808513985" + "2267495266642743136795903226571831274837537691982486936010899433" + "1742996138863988537349011363534657200181054004755211807985189183" + "22832092343085067869"); static BigInteger R = new BigInteger("72294619754760174015019300613282868" + "7219874058383991405961870844510501809885568825032608592198728334" + "7842806755320938980653857292210955880919036195738252708294945320" + "3969657021169134916999794791553544054426668823852291733234236693" + "4178738081619274342922698767296233937873073756955509269717272907" + "8566607940937442517"); static BigInteger A = new BigInteger("32189274574111378750865973746687106" + "3695160924347574569923113893643975328118502246784387874381928804" + "6865920942258286938666201264395694101012858796521485171319748255" + "4630425677084511454641229993833255506759834486100188932905136959" + "7287419551379203001848457730376230681693887924162381650252270090" + "28296990388507680954"); public static void main(String[] args) { FewChars(); System.out.println(); ManyChars(); } public static void FewChars() { //ElGamalEncipher(String plaintext, BigInteger p, BigInteger g, BigInteger r) BigInteger[] cipherText = ElGamal.ElGamalEncipher("This is a string " + "of 129 characters which works just fine . • ObjectContext ConnectionString Sqlite

- by codegarten
I need to connect to a database in Sqlite so i downloaded and installed System.Data.SQLite and with the designer dragged all my tables. The designer created a .cs file with public class Entities : ObjectContext and 3 constructors: 1st public Entities() : base("name=Entities", "Entities") this one load the connection string from App.config and works fine. App.config <connectionStrings> <add name="Entities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/Db.TracModel.csdl|res://*/Db.TracModel.ssdl|res://*/Db.TracModel.msl;provider=System.Data.SQLite;provider connection string="data source=C:\Users\Filipe\Desktop\trac.db"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" /> </connectionStrings> 2nd public Entities(string connectionString) : base(connectionString, "Entities") 3rd public Entities(EntityConnection connection) : base(connection, "Entities") Here is the problem, i already tried n configuration, already used EntityConnectionStringBuilder to make the connection string with no luck. Can you please point me in the right direction!? EDIT(1) How can i construct a valid connection string?!

• Hibernate Mapping Annotation Question?

- by paddydub
I've just started using hibernate and I'm trying to map walking distance between two coordinates into a hashmap, There can be many connections from one "FromCoordinate" to another "ToCoordinate". I'm not sure if i've implemented this correctly, What annotations do i need to map this MashMap? • How can i use complextype class or multi type class is it generic collection?

i need a complex returning type. i have 4 class returning types COMPLEXTYPE must include Company, Muayene, Radyoloji, Satis because i must return data switch case situation how can i do? Maybe i need generic collections How can i do that? public class GenoTipController { public COMPLEXTYPE Generate(DataModelType modeltype) { _Company company = null; _Muayene muayene = null; _Radyoloji radyoloji = null; _Satis satis = null; switch (modeltype) { case DataModelType.Radyoloji: radyoloji = new Radyoloji(); return radyoloji; break; case DataModelType.Satis: satis = new Satis(); return satis; break; case DataModelType.Muayene: muayene = new Muayene(); return muayene; break; case DataModelType.Company: company = new Company(); return company; break; default: break; } } } public class CompanyView { public static List GetPersonel() { GenoTipController controller = new GenoTipController(); _Company company = controller.Generate(DataModelType.Company); return company.GetPersonel(); } } public enum DataModelType { Radyoloji, Satis, Muayene, Company }

• Javascript scope chain

- by Geromey
Hi, I am trying to optimize my program. I think I understand the basics of closure. I am confused about the scope chain though. I know that in general you want a low scope (to access variables quickly). Say I have the following object: var my_object = (function(){ //private variables var a_private = 0; return{ //public //public variables a_public : 1, //public methods some_public : function(){ debugger; alert(this.a_public); alert(a_private); }; }; })(); My understanding is that if I am in the some_public method I can access the private variables faster than the public ones. Is this correct? My confusion comes with the scope level of this. When the code is stopped at debugger, firebug shows the public variable inside the this keyword. The this word is not inside a scope level. How fast is accessing this? Right now I am storing any this.properties as another local variable to avoid accessing it multiple times. Thanks very much!

• Qt - Calling widget parent's slots

- by bullettime
I wrote a small program to test accessing a widget parent's slot. Basically, it has two classes: Widget: namespace Ui { class Widget; } class Widget : public QWidget { Q_OBJECT public: Widget(QWidget *parent = 0); ~Widget(); QLabel *newlabel; QString foo; public slots: void changeLabel(); private: Ui::Widget *ui; }; Widget::Widget(QWidget *parent) : QWidget(parent), ui(new Ui::Widget) { ui->setupUi(this); customWidget *cwidget = new customWidget(); newlabel = new QLabel("text"); foo = "hello world"; this->ui->formLayout->addWidget(newlabel); this->ui->formLayout->addWidget(cwidget); connect(this->ui->pushButton,SIGNAL(clicked()),cwidget,SLOT(callParentSlot())); connect(this->ui->pb,SIGNAL(clicked()),this,SLOT(changeLabel())); } void Widget::changeLabel(){ newlabel->setText(this->foo); } and customWidget: class customWidget : public QWidget { Q_OBJECT public: customWidget(); QPushButton *customPB; public slots: void callParentSlot(); }; customWidget::customWidget() { customPB = new QPushButton("customPB"); QHBoxLayout *hboxl = new QHBoxLayout(); hboxl->addWidget(customPB); this->setLayout(hboxl); connect(this->customPB,SIGNAL(clicked()),this,SLOT(callParentSlot())); } void customWidget::callParentSlot(){ ((Widget*)this->parentWidget())->changeLabel(); } in the main function, I simply created an instance of Widget, and called show() on it. This Widget instance has a label, a QString, an instance of customWidget class, and two buttons (inside the ui class, pushButton and pb). One of the buttons calls a slot in its own class called changeLabel(), that, as the name suggests, changes the label to whatever is set in the QString contained in it. I made that just to check that changeLabel() worked. This button is working fine. The other button calls a slot in the customWidget instance, named callParentSlot(), that in turn tries to call the changeLabel() slot in its parent. Since in this case I know that its parent is in fact an instance of Widget, I cast the return value of parentWidget() to Widget*. This button crashes the program. I made a button within customWidget to try to call customWidget's parent slot as well, but it also crashes the program. I followed what was on this question. What am I missing?

• optional arguments in haskell

- by snorlaks
Hello, I have declared my own type: data Book = Bookinfo { bookId :: Int, title :: String } deriving(Show) and now: x = Bookinfo it is all ok, valid statement but making bookId x throws an error. If I would be able to handle errors in Haskell that would be ok but right now I cant do this So Im curious how to make not specified values of fields take default value, and what exactly value is there when I'm not giving vcalues of fields in construcotr ? thanks for help

• Is an "infinite" iterator bad design?

- by Adamski
Is it generally considered bad practice to provide Iterator implementations that are "infinite"; i.e. where calls to hasNext() always(*) return true? Typically I'd say "yes" because the calling code could behave erratically, but in the below implementation hasNext() will return true unless the caller removes all elements from the List that the iterator was initialised with; i.e. there is a termination condition. Do you think this is a legitimate use of Iterator? It doesn't seem to violate the contract although I suppose one could argue it's unintuitive. public class CyclicIterator<T> implements Iterator<T> { private final List<T> l; private Iterator it; public CyclicIterator<T>(List<T> l) { this.l = l; this.it = l.iterator(); } public boolean hasNext() { return !l.isEmpty(); } public T next() { T ret; if (!hasNext()) { throw new NoSuchElementException(); } else if (it.hasNext()) { ret = it.next(); } else { it = l.iterator(); ret = it.next(); } return ret; } public void remove() { it.remove(); } }

• Cascade Saves with Fluent NHibernate AutoMapping

- by Ryan Montgomery
How do I "turn on" cascading saves using AutoMap Persistence Model with Fluent NHibernate? As in: I Save the Person and the Arm should also be saved. Currently I get "object references an unsaved transient instance - save the transient instance before flushing" public class Person : DomainEntity { public virtual Arm LeftArm { get; set; } } public class Arm : DomainEntity { public virtual int Size { get; set; } } I found an article on this topic, but it seems to be outdated.

• How to generate SSH key pairs with Python

- by Lee
Hello, I'm attempting to write a script to generate SSH Identity key pairs for me. from M2Crypto import RSA key = RSA.gen_key(1024, 65337) key.save_key("/tmp/my.key", cipher=None) The file /tmp/my.key looks great now. By running ssh-keygen -y -f /tmp/my.key > /tmp/my.key.pub I can extract the public key. My question is how can I extract the public key from python? Using key.save_pub_key("/tmp/my.key.pub") saves something like: -----BEGIN PUBLIC KEY----- MFwwDQYJKoZIhvcNAQEBBQADASDASDASDASDBarYRsmMazM1hd7a+u3QeMP ... FZQ7Ic+BmmeWHvvVP4Yjyu1t6vAut7mKkaDeKbT3yiGVUgAEUaWMXqECAwEAAQ== -----END PUBLIC KEY----- When I'm looking for something like: ssh-rsa AAAABCASDDBM$%3WEAv/3%$F ..... OSDFKJSL43$%^DFg==

• Convert from Price

- by Leroy Jenkins
Im attempting to Convert a Price (from an API (code below)). public class Price { public Price(); public Price(double data); public Price(double data, int decimalPadding); } What I would like to do is compare the price from this API to a Double. Simply trying to convert to Double isnt working as I would have hoped. Double bar = 21.75; if (Convert.ToDouble(apiFoo.Value) >= bar) { //code } when I try something like this, I believe it says the value must be lower than infinity. How can I convert this price so they can be compared?

• Exclude one or more elements from being connected (using connectWith) in jQuery's sortable lists

- by Lev
I have two lists, one with an ID of "vlist" and one with an ID of "hlist". The "vlist" holds elements which should be visible, while the "hlist" holds items that should remain hidden. The idea here is to allow the administrator of the system to specify which elements/fields should be shown on a sign-up page, and which shouldn't. The two lists are connected using "connectWith", so the administrator can drag items from the visible list to the hidden list (or vice versa). My dilemma is that there are a few fields I want locked into the visible list, but still sortable within that one list. For example, the "username", "email" and "password" fields should be locked within the visible list (as they always need to be used for registration). Is this even possible? Perhaps it is a no-brainer that I simply haven't discovered yet. I've looked around through jQuery's documentation for a while and can't seem to find anything related to this scenario. I have found how you can "cancel" specific elements in the list from being sortable altogether or even disabled from being a dropable target, but this doesn't do it. The user should still have the ability to drag these items within the "visible" list, in case they want to adjust the ordering of the locked fields. I'm also aware that you can contain sortable elements within a specific element or DOM object, but this also can't be used as this only seems to apply to the whole sortable list, and not specific elements of that list. I've even tried to see if something like this would work after I built the sortable listing(s): $('#vlist > #slist-li-username').sortable('option', 'containment', '#vlist'); Obviously, that didn't work either or I wouldn't be posting this. In case it might help, I thought I'd throw in the code I'm using now; here is the jQuery code: $(function() { $('#vlist, #hlist').sortable ({ connectWith: '.signup-set_flist', forcePlaceholderSize: true, receive: function (event, ui) { var itemID = ui.item.attr('id'); var fID = itemID.replace(/slist-li-/g, ''); var hID = 'slist-' + fID; if (ui.sender.attr('id') == 'vlist') { $('#'+hID).val(''); } else { $('#'+hID).val(fID); } } }).disableSelection(); $('#vlist > #slist-li-username').sortable('option', 'containment', '#vlist'); }); And as for the HTML, I'll upload it to here (since StackOverflow seems to break when I paste it in here - even in code mode): http://sikosoft.net/jquery-sort-connect.html Any help would greatly be appreciated! :) Oh, and be gentle as this is my first question here. ;)

• How does Fluent NHibernate support the Import Entity

- by Bender
I want to create a strongly type object from a fluent NHibernate query. If I were using HQL and NHibernate I belive I would need: the class for the output Namespace Model Public Class namecount Public Overridable Property lastname() as string ... Public Overridable Property lastnamecount() as integer ... Public Sub New(lastname as string, count as integer) ... End Class End Namespace an .hbm.xml file <?xml ...> <hibernate-mapping ...> <import class="model.namecount,model"> </hibernate-mapping> and of course the query _session.createquery("select new namecount(lastname, count(lastname)) ...") (The above is a paraphrased example taken from one of the 2008 SummerofNHibernate videos) I cannot find any examples of how to do this with fluent (even in C#), is it possible? If it isn't is there a VB example of how to mix Fluent and .hbm.xml
