• How can use mod_rewrite to redirect a multiple specific URLs containing multiple query strings?

  Hi there folks, we recently migrated a site from a custom CMS to drupal. In an effort to preserve some links that our users bookmarked (we have about 120 redirects) we would like to forward the original URLs to a new URL. I have been searching for a couple days, but can't seem to find anything simple to what I need. We have existing URLS that contain one or more query strings, for example: /article.php?issue_id=12&article_id=275 and we would like to forward to the new location: http://foobar.edu/content/super-happy-fun-article I started using: RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/article\.php?issue_id=12&article_id=275$ http://foobar.edu/content/super-happy-fun-article [R=301,L] This, however, does not work. A simple RewriteRule works: RewriteRule ^test\.php$ index.php It is unclear to me how I need to use {QUERY_STRING} with multiple Basically it's 120 simple redirects that go from one existing URL to a new one. I don't need ranges [0-9], because there is no sequential order to existing URLs. Perhaps I can do what I need with RewriteMap and a simple text file that contains a line like this: index.php?issue_id=12&articleType_section=0&articleType_id=65 http://foobar.edu/category/fall-2008 If anyone has any idea on using mod_rewrite to accomplish this or if there is a better, or more simple mod, I am open to that as well.   I have found several threads from 2010 and early-2011 talking about excessive resource usage by mod_pagespeed I haven't seen any recent ones. I am facing excessive memory usage, which is causing server to crash several times a day. I am wondering if the issue was ever fixed before mod_pagespeed 1.0 was released. • What will happen if on my DB server I'll run out of space?

  I'm seeing a hugh difference of free disk space between df -h and du -sxh / I've understood in my question Resolving unix server disk space not adding up that du -sxh / is a better estimation as to when I will run out of disk space. Having said that, assuming in my case the above sentence will prove to be wrong and I will run soon out of disk space, what will happen? I assume the MySQL will fail INSERT queries, but other than that, will I just need to delete some files or will it be a problematic situation?

• How to set ulimits for a service starting at boot?

  I need, for mysql to use large-pages, to set a ulimit - I've done this in limits.conf. However, limits.conf (pam_limits.so), doesn't get read in for init, only for "real" shells. I solved this before by adding a "ulimit -l" to the initscript start function. but I need some sort of repeatable way to do this, now that the boxes are managed with chef, and we don't want to take over a file that's actually owned by the RPM.

  I received a recommendation from my hosting provider noting that a general rule in production server management is to ensure that the memory on your database server is larger than the size of your total database. Our database is 1800mb (and growing) and we're being told to purchase a 2GB server. This didn't sit right with me, but I'm not an expert in production server management.   Hi I have a folder on my site which contains admin files and I've added basic auth following a little unwanted attention. This works fine however a couple of the admin functions won't work through basic auth as they handle file uploads and so I want to exclude these files from the auth. It shouldn't have any security implications as any rogue user wouldn't be able to access the pages that could create a session to use these functions. I am using the following basic code to exclude a file: <FilesMatch "(index.php\/myadminfolder\/myurl\/myaction/someotherstuff?)$"> Satisfy Any Order allow,deny Allow from all Deny from none </FilesMatch> The URL exclusion is not working. The URL to exclude is in the form: index.php/directory/subdirectory/action/uniqueid/blah What is the correct URL string to add to FilesMatch to exclude any files that start with the pattern of index.php/directory/subdirectory/action - regardless of what comes after action? The url a user uses to access their page is http://myurl.com/1234/filename.jpg Here the name of the subfolder is an integer is unique and generated dynamically by another application. The subfolder stores images specific to an individual user. So the folder structure is as follows main1 = document root main2 is another folder within main1 or document root. /main1/1234/filename.jpg /main1/5678/filename.jpg /main1/2345/filename.jpg /main1/1212/filename.jpg /main1/main2/2367/filename.jpg /main1/main2/8790/filename.jpg /main1/main2/9966/filename.jpg So, I want to write a rewrite a rule so that if a user tries to type in http://myurl.com/1234/filename.jpg, the rewrite rule will need to look where the file is and serve the request; so for request http:/myurl.com/1234/filename.jpg the actual page is located at /main1/1234/filename.jpg and then need to serve that page from that folder. So, if another users makes a request as http://myurl.com/9966/filename.jpg, it should serve the page from the following destination /main1/main2/9966/filename.jpg Please let me know if the question is still not clear.   I want to know how I can schedule a dynamic(auto populated data) function to auto run everyday at saved time? Let's say I have a form that once the button is clicked it sends the data to the function, which the posts the data. • Strange enduser experience with Liferay, Glassfish and Apache on RedHat

  Tried multiple forums to get to the bottom of this. I hope I can get some direction here: Here is the stack I am working with: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6 (Tikanga) Liferay 6.0.6 on Glassfish 3.0.1 MySQL 5.0.77 Apache 2.2.3 The Liferay portal provides a variety of portlets to end users. Static content (web pages), static resources (primarily pdf and mp3 files 1mb - 80mb in size), File upload and download capabilities (primarily 40-60mb mp3 files) and online streaming of those MP3 files. Here is the strange end user experiences: Under normal load: (20-30) users uploading, downloading or streaming files and 20-30 accessing static content (some of it downloads), we see the following: 1) Clicking a link triggers the download of a portion of an MP3 (the portion is a few seconds long). 2) Clicking on a link tiggers the download of the page content rather than rendering. 3) Clicking a link causes the page to dump binary data to the end user rather than the expected content. 4) Clicking a link returns the text of a javascript file rather than rendering the page. Each occurrence is totally random (or appears so). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to have no relation to browser or client OS. The strange events seem to occur much more frequently when using an SSL connection rather than regular http. Apache serves as a proxy server only (reverse). It basically passes all the requests through to Glassfish. There isn't any static content proxy served by Apache. We rebuilt the entire stack from scratch and redeployed the portlet wars and still have the same issues. Liferay is running as a single server (not clustered). We disabled mod_cache in Apache. The problems are more frequent as the server load grows. This morning the load is pretty light and we are seeing few problems but the use of the site will grow, particularly tonight around 9pm CST through Wednesday morning. You could try the site (http://preview.bsfinternational.org) during those times and I would expect that you might experience one of the weirdnesses as you randomly click links on the site (https is invoked only when signed in). Again, https seems to exacerbate the issue. This seems very much like a caching issue but I don't know where in the stack to start peeling the onion. Apache? Liferay? Glassfish? MySQL? Maybe even Redhat? We are stumped and most forums we have posted to (LifeRay and Glassfish) have returned very few suggestions. I just need an idea of where to start looking. I understand that we could have a portlet EDIT: Opening the files in a Hex editor that appear to be pages that download rather than render, we see that the first 4000 characters are "junk" and then the "HTTP/1.1 ...." 'normal' header is seen. So something is dumping a jumble of characters up to offset 4000 (when viewing it in a Hex editor). Perhaps a clue? Ideas?

• Can't sync filesystem without reboot

  I'm having an issue with a linux server. Once a week the running mysql instance hangs and there is no way to fully stop it. If I kill it, it remains in zombie status and init does not reap its pid. The server is used for staging deployments and some internal tools, so it's not under heavy load. The only process constantly used id mysql and for this I think that it's the only process which suffer of this issue. I've tracked reboots script and I've found out that also the reboot process hangs on a sync call, this one in /etc/init.d/sendsigs (I'm on ubuntu) # Flush the kernel I/O buffer before we start to kill # processes, to make sure the IO of already stopped services to # not slow down the remaining processes to a point where they # are accidentily killed with SIGKILL because they did not # manage to shut down in time. sync I'm almost sure that the cause of this is an hardware issue (the RAID controller???) also because I've other two machines with the same hardware and software configuration and they don't suffer of this, but I can't find any hint in syslog or dmesg.   I have no experience compiling code other than using Visual Studio's Build command. I am hoping we can create a step by step guide for compiling mod_python on windows. Please be as descriptive as possible.   I'm trying to set up a basic virtual host to proxy all requests to test.local to a WEBrick server I have running on 127.0.0.1:8080 while keeping all requests to localhost going to my static files in /var/www. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. I have libapache2-mod-proxy-html installed and I have the module enabled with a2enmod proxy. I also have my virtual host enabled.   We are using apache2.2 as a front-end server with application servers as reverse proxies behind apache. We are using mod_cache for some images and enabled it like this: <IfModule mod_disk_cache.c> CacheEnable disk / CacheRoot /var/cache/apache2/mod_disk_cache CacheIgnoreCacheControl On CacheMaxFileSize 2500000 CacheIgnoreURLSessionIdentifiers jsessionid CacheIgnoreHeaders Set-Cookie </IfModule> The image urls vary completely and have no common start pattern, but they all end in ".png". Thats why we used the root in CacheEnable / If not served from the cache, the request is forwarded to an application server via reverse proxy. So far so good, cache is working fine. But I really only need to cache all image request ending in ".png". My above configuration still works as my application server send an appropriate Cache-Control: no-cache header on the way back to apache. So most pages send a no-cache header back and they get not cached at all. My ".png" responses doesn't send a Cache-Control header so apache is only going to cache all urls with ".png". Fine. But when a new request enters apache, apache does not know that only .png requests should be considered, so every request is checking a file on disk (recorded with strace -e trace=file -p pid): [pid 19063] open("/var/cache/apache2/mod_disk_cache/zK/q8/Kd/g6OIv@woJRC_ba_A.header", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) I don't want to have apache going to disk every request, as the majority of requests are not cached at all. And we have up to 10.000 request/s at peak time. Sometimes our read IO wait spikes. It is not getting really slow, but we try to tweak it for better performance. In apache 2.4 you can say: <LocationMatch .png$> CacheEnable disk </LocationMatch> This is not possible in 2.2 and as I see no backports for debian I am not going to upgrade. So I tried to tweak apache2.2 to follow my rules: <IfModule mod_disk_cache.c> SetEnvIf Request_URI "\.png$" image RequestHeader unset Cache-Control RequestHeader append Cache-Control no-cache env=!image CacheEnable disk / CacheRoot /var/cache/apache2/mod_disk_cache #CacheIgnoreCacheControl on CacheMaxFileSize 2500000 CacheIgnoreURLSessionIdentifiers jsessionid CacheIgnoreHeaders Set-Cookie </IfModule> The idea is to let apache decide to serve request from cache based on Cache-control header (CacheIgnoreCacheControl default to off). And before simply set a RequestHeader based on the request. If it is not an image request, set a Cache-control header, so it should bypass the cache at all. This does not work, I guess because of late processing of RequestHeader directive, see https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_headers.html#early I can't add early processing as "early" keyword can't be used together with a conditional "env=!image" I can't change the url requesting the images and I know there are of course other solutions. But I am only interested in configuring apache2.2 to reach my goal. Does anybody has an idea how to achieve my goal?
