• Configuring Network without Default Gateway

  I'm trying to connect my desktop and laptop using an ethernet connection. I usually configure network from the command line but this time I decided to give Network Manager a try, so I went to Network Connections, and selected manual IP configuration. At first I left the default gateway field blank, since I don't need a default gateway. Turned out network manager doesn't let me save the connection unless I enter that field, but entering a phony gateway messes up with my Internet connection. Anyway to do this setup?

• Why can't I get into my repositories?

  Upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 by mistake and am having problems with some of my programs. They either don't work or they disappear from view on the screen. The Repositories menu item in Synaptic Packages Manager is a case in point. The computer does nothing when I choose this item. I am locked out of unless I edit /etc/apt/sources.list. The rest of the application seems to work, however. Update Manager just flashes on screen then disappears without doing, as does Printing. How do I downgrade from a higher to a lower level repository? I need to downgrade from 10.10 to 10.04. Each time Ubuntu upgrades to 10.10 evil things happen and the operating system really gets messed up. I really do not want to have to erase and install my operating system all over again if I can help it.

• SPARC T5-4 Engineering Simulation Solution

  A recent Oracle internal performance evaluation for computer-based product design demonstrated that Oracle's SPARC T5-4 server running MSC's SimManager simulation software with Oracle Database 12c consolidates the work of multiple x86 servers while delivering better overall performance.   Engineering simulation solutions have taken the center stage in helping companies design and develop innovative products while reducing physical prototyping costs, and exploring a larger design space, resulting in more design possibilities. For this solution, a single SPARC T5-4 server running Oracle Solaris 11 was deployed to consolidate the MSC SimManager server, the Oracle Database 12c server, and the web application server onto a single platform.   I know how to create a hotspot when connected to a wired network, but when I am using internet from a WiFi connection, this disconnects the wireless connection the moment I activate the hotspot. In Windows I can use Connectify Hotspot, which enables me to share the internet connection from the same wireless adapter as I am creating an access point on. As you can read on the technology overview page: Access Point mode allows you to create a hotspot using the same Wi-Fi card that you are using to access the Internet. How do I do this on Ubuntu?

• Flash Retirement - HTML to be "the one"

  I will update this blog post as we get closer to the retirement of the Flash portal. As you might have read the support.oracle.com  flash site will be replaced with what you see in supporthtml.oracle.com,  once we get the rest of the features and functions ported over to the html site. The HTML site is written using Oracle's ADF stack. So we are now pretty much 100% eating our own dog food.  More details to follow.

Teams within Oracle have been busy building demos and proof-of-concept applications using the same technologies, and we have now started posting some of these as code samples on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).  The zip files include both the source code and helpful information to get you started using the code.  Everything is covered under a BSD license.  In future blog posts we will dive deeper into some of these applications.   In Oracle Applications it is possible to configure iSupplier to link to an Oracle iSurvey, and for the Oracle iSurvey to be executed for a Supplier. This integration requires: An Oracle Script An Oracle iSurvey linked to the Oracle Script iSupplier Configuration to reference the iSurvey. Once set up, the iSurvey will be available from the supplier tab from the Purchasing Responsibilities and from the iSupplier Portal.  Responses to the survey can be viewed from the Survey Administrator Responsibility.
