    I am looking for the Java equivalent of gprof. I did a little Java profiling using System.getCurrentMillis(), and saw several GUI tools which seem too much. A good compromise could be a text-based Java profiler, preferably free or low-cost, which works in either Windows XP or Linux.

  • What is the recomended setup for a small .net/php development shop?

  • Oracle: Is there a way to get the column data types for a view?

    For a table in oracle, I can query "all_tab_columns" and get table column information, like the data type, precision, whether or not the column is nullable. In SQL Developer or TOAD, you can click on a view in the GUI and it will spit out a list of the columns that the view returns and the same set of data (data type, precision, nullable, etc). So my question is, is there a way to query this column definition for a view, the way you can for a table? How do the GUI tools do it?

    I'm looking for a library (or plugin) that help me create a slideshow where (besides the simple ordering of images) I'm able to define the beginning and ending positions (either X/Y, or Zooms) for a given image and the plugin animates the intervening steps between them. Flash has a number of tools/libs like this, i'm sure jQuery has seen similar. Ideally something that offers a range of easing effects as well. I understand these elements are native to jQuery...i'm looking for a time-tested wrapper. thx

I've been working in these frameworks for a short while but feel like the IDE could be doing more heavy lifting in terms of scaling and job processing interactions.   • When I change templates in Netbeans, why doesn't anything happen?

    I want to modify the "Java class" template, so that the class javadoc comment includes more than just the author. In Netbeans 6.8., I go to Tools Templates Java Java Class, and modify the template. However, nothing seems to change. I tried restarting Netbeans, just in case, but the old template is still used. How do I get Netbeans to recognize changes to the template for Java Classes?

    Is there some cool Moria like theme for Visual Studio 2010? Mine is highlighting gray font with gray background! I just can't configure it on Tools-Options-Environment-Fonts and Colors menu. Visual Studio doesn't seem to show an item for this "highlighting keyword/tag system". You select a variable on variable called myVar, and it highlights all with the same name but with a grayer color and gray background. I just can't read it and can't set it.

I for example want to be able to set rules about method lenght, complexity and so on, I found NDepend very convenient can I somehow use NDepend to run some rules on the files trying to check in. I also want to be able to bypass the rules sometimes. Are there any blogs or discussions around this, if it wont work with NDepend are there any other tools or ways I can use?

    I have applied a color theme called Vibrant Ink (or some modification of it), and since I installed Visual Studio 2010 Pro Power Tools all my statement completion boxes are undreadable.     I was reading Code Complete 2 and it mentions this: Many version-control tools wil insert version information into a file. In CVS, for exmple the characters // $id$ Will Automaticly expand to // $id: ClassName.java, v 1.1 2004/02/05 00:36:42 ismene Exp $ So now I would like to do something similar with VSS for our SQL scripts I have been googling around for the answer but can't find it. Is this possible? can someone maybe point me in the right direction?

  • Problems Installing Eclipse and Ruby Plugin

    I installed Eclipse on my Ubuntu machine and then the Ruby Development Tools (RDT), but it would crash when I try to alter certain features, like having line numbers, how far back to have history, and the code coloring scheme didn't work fully. I decided to try to uninstall Eclipse by doing sudo aptitude remove Eclipse and then sudo aptitude install eclipse but instead it installed it back with the broken Ruby plugin. I also tried aptitude purge but that didn't help either. How can I freshly reinstall Eclipse and get a properly working Ruby plugin?

Normally this is a good thing of course, but for this particular case - that's just a waste of space. What are options to intentionally mess around with hg repository history and weed it out?
