  My application checks a number of domains to see if they are valid (approx 100). I have the following code to check a single domain: def self.test_url uri, limit = 10 if limit == 0 return get_error_messages("001") end begin url = URI.parse(uri) response = Net::HTTP.start(url.host, url.port).request_head('/') rescue SocketError => e return get_error_messages("002") end case response when Net::HTTPRedirection then test_url(response['location'], limit - 1) else return get_error_messages(response.code) end end The code checks for the response code while taking into account redirects. This works fine. The only problem I have is when I put this in a loop I want it to run in parallel. So I don't have to wait for domain 1 to respond before I can request domain 2. I have managed this in PHP using curl_multi to run the requests in parallel. Is there a similar thing I can do in Rails?

Now, if I run the same test alone from reSharper the output is fine and does not repeat. However, if I run this test along side 2 other tests in the same class, the output is repeated three times. I am totally confused. What the hell is going on here?

  I have a Rails app that has a similar setup to Tumblr, that is, you can have either: (1) Subdomain hosting (your-username.myapp.com) (2) Domain hosting (your-username.com) Both would forward to a personalized website for that user, created with my application. How can I accomplish this in Rails? I have been able to get (1) working with subdomain-fu, but I'm not sure how to get (2) working. Any pointers (plugins, gems, tutorials), etc. would be greatly helpful, I can't seem to find any. Thanks!

  I am new to VBA and I am struggling trying to make this work. I am in need of a macro that will process each cell\column on Sheet1 and put the results on Sheet2. I'm sure this is pretty easy for those who are more advanced with VB code. It contains many columns.. Anytime we encounter a — or an empty cell, we populate the cell with -999 (see the example on Sheet2) on the first column, which contains "0-2". Then we create 2 new columns and populate them with 0 on the first column and 2 on second column (see example on Sheet2). If a value is found on only one side, we then populate both sides with the same number.   I have 4 tables built with JOINS and I would like to SELECT DISTINCT rows on the setsTbl.s_id so they always show regardless if there's relational data against them or not!. This is what I have at present which displays the data but doesn't display all of but not the entire distinct row!   I have developped an application that can process data (in my case image algorithms performed on videos). I have developed different ProcessingMethods. Sometimes several videos are processed in parallel. Each process runs in a seperate thread. I have a GUI with several ProgressBars, one for each thread that is processing data. What is a good way to update the ProgressBar? Today my GUI is creating all the processing threads and one progressBars for each thread. Then I pass those progressBars to the threads, which pass them to the ProcessingMethod. The ProcessingMethod will then update the progressbar (using Invoke(..)). I have different processingMethods. Within each of these methods I have copy-paste code to update the progressBar. Although I am a new to programming, I know copy-paste is not good. What is a good way to make it better?

  OK so I have two tables, MEDIA and BUSINESS. I want it set up so the forms to input into them are on the same page. MEDIA has a row that is biz_id that is the id of BUSINESS. So MEDIA is really a part of BUSINESS. HOW do I insert/add these into their tables without a common ID because I haven't yet made the record for business? I'm sorry I didn't really word this very much... You might need more clarification to answer properly and I'll be glad to give any more info. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

  I am building a SQL Server job to pull data from SQL Server into an Oracle database through a linked server. The table I need to populate has a sequence for the name ID, which is my primary key. I'm having trouble figuring out a way to do this simply, without some lengthy code. Here's what I have so far for the SELECT portion (some actual names obfuscated): SELECT (SELECT NEXTVAL FROM OPENQUERY(MYSERVER, 'SELECT ORCL.NAME_SEQNO.NEXTVAL FROM DUAL')), psn.BirthDate, psn.FirstName, psn.MiddleName, psn.LastName, c.REGION_CODE FROM Person psn LEFT JOIN MYSERVER..ORCL.COUNTRY c ON c.COUNTRY_CODE = psn.Country MYSERVER is the linked Oracle server, ORCL is obviously the schema. Person is a local table on the SQL Server database where the query is being executed. When I run this query, I get the same exact value for all records for the NEXTVAL. What I need is for it to generate a new value for each returned record.   I have a members.php file that shows my websites members. I echo members name by using foreach method. A method of Members class returns an array, then I use foreach loop in the members.php file to echo the members. I am trying to aovid writing php code in my members.php file. Is there a way to avoid using foreach inside members.php file? For example, is it possible to return value from a method couple of times? (by only calling the object once). Just like how we normally call the functions? This question doesn't make sense, but I am just trying to see if there is a away around this issue?

  Here's what I'm doing: I have (2) DataGridView controls DGV #1 is bound to the DataSet, DGV #2 is bound to a DataView of the SAME DataSet Now, what I'm needing to accomplish here is this: When a user checks a boolean column on the original DGV, the second DGV should now display the newly checked row also. The context is that the first DGV is a master list, and the second one is a "favorite" view of the first. When I check the rows, the favorite column does NOT update. Do I need to use a DataAdapter to actually update the database, or can I operate directly on the DataSet (DataTable) -- or even with the Rows in the original DataGridView?
