  • How to generate a script for changing a column of varchar to xml type with data being converted?

    - by user1323981
Initially I have a column (partner_email) of varchar. Now a recent change has come where it needs to be changed to be changed to the XML type but the previous records needs to be reserve into the new column. I have applied the below algorithm to accomplish the work /*********************************************************************** Purpose: To change the partner_email column from Varchar Type To Xml Type and convert the existing records from varchar to xml types. Programmers Notes: 1. Create a new Column by the name partner_email_temp of type XML into the Partner Table 2. Copy the Email contents from partner_email to partner_email_temp column after proper conversion N.B.~ The format will be <PartnerEmails> <Email>[email protected]</Email> <Email /> <Email /> </PartnerEmails> 3. Drop the exisitng partner_email 4. Rename partner_email_temp column to partner_email ***********************************************************************/ USE [Test] GO --===== Create a partner_email_temp column of type xml into the Partner table IF NOT EXISTS ( SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns WHERE table_name = 'Partner' AND column_name = 'partner_email_temp' ) BEGIN ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Partner] ADD partner_email_temp XML NULL END GO --===== Copy the Email contents from partner_email to partner_email_temp column -- after proper conversion to xml type UPDATE [dbo].[Partner] SET partner_email_temp = CAST('<PartnerEmails><Email>' + REPLACE(partner_email, '&', '&amp;') + '</Email><Email></Email><Email></Email></PartnerEmails>' AS XML) GO --===== Drop the exisitng partner_email ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Partner] DROP COLUMN partner_email GO --===== Rename partner_email_temp column to partner_email Exec sp_RENAME 'Partner.partner_email_temp','partner_email','COLUMN' GO I works fine for the first time I ran. Now if I ran it for the next time, it am getting an error Msg 8116, Level 16, State 1, Line 4 Argument data type xml is invalid for argument 1 of replace function. Caution: Changing any part of an object name could break scripts and stored procedures. The intention is that, if the partner_email column is varchar, the script will change it to xml type and will convert all the data in xml format . If I ran it second time, it should ignore the statement. How to achieve this? I am trying in a different way DECLARE @columnDataType VARCHAR(50) SELECT @columnDataType = DATA_TYPE FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns WHERE table_name = 'Partner' AND column_name = 'partner_email' print @columnDataType IF (@columnDataType = 'varchar') BEGIN --===== Create a partner_email_temp column of type xml into the Partner table IF NOT EXISTS ( SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.columns WHERE table_name = 'Partner' AND column_name = 'partner_email_temp' ) BEGIN ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Partner] ADD partner_email_temp XML NULL --===== Copy the Email contents from partner_email to partner_email_temp column -- after proper conversion to xml type UPDATE [dbo].[Partner] SET partner_email_temp = CAST('<PartnerEmails><Email>' + REPLACE(partner_email, '&', '&amp;') + '</Email><Email></Email><Email></Email></PartnerEmails>' AS XML) --===== Drop the exisitng partner_email ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Partner] DROP COLUMN partner_email --===== Rename partner_email_temp column to partner_email EXEC sp_RENAME 'Partner.partner_email_temp','partner_email','COLUMN' END END but getting error Msg 207, Level 16, State 1, Line 29 Invalid column name 'partner_email_temp'. • are there any useful datasets available on the web for data mining?

    - by niko
Hi, Does anyone know any good resource where example (real) data can be downloaded for experimenting statistics and machine learning techniques such as decision trees etc? Currently I am studying machine learning techniques and it would be very helpful to have real data for evaluating the accuracy of various tools. If anyone knows any good resource (perhaps csv, xls files or any other format) I would be very thankful for a suggestion.

  • Convert octet string to human readable

    - by Michael Lang
Using the pysnmp framework i get some values doing a snmp walk. Unfortunately for the oid 1.3.6.1.21.69.1.5.8.1.2 (DOCS-CABLE-DEVICE-MIB) i get a weird result which i cant correctly print here since it contains ascii chars like BEL ACK When doing a repr i get: OctetString('\x07\xd8\t\x17\x03\x184\x00') But the output should look like: 2008-9-23,3:24:52.0 the format is called "DateAndTime". How can i translate the OctetString output to a "human readable" date/time ?

  • WebService remote invoking fails.

    - by user569913
I have a web service hosted on a web server, I invoke the web service using jquery ajax. The service returns results successfully when invoked locally from the server, but it fails when invoked from a remote client machine (not in the same domain). I see the request fail in the firebug returning error (401 UnAuthorized) and the response has the following error (Request format is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in '/List').

  • Making a screensaver

    - by user1718744
No, I'm not talking about making a slideshow of pictures. How can I make the actual file that windows (at least windows 7) uses for screensavers? It is a .scr format, and when I opened it in Notepad, I got a bunch of symbols, with a few words scattered throughout, but that was expected. It looks like it was made with directx, xml, and even assembly (for the shaders) based on the recognizable code there. I just went on to a site-hosting place and made this: Link to ribbons.scr code

  • prolog. recursive function returning multiple values.

    - by obtur
I am new in Prolog. I need to declare a function which looks at a list like [[1, 0, 0], [1, 0, 0], [1, 0, 0]] and if the value is 0 returns its address(by considering it as a double array). I wrote a function basicly in the format: function(..., X) :- function(called by other values). How can I write a function, that returns a value when each times it called(recursively). May I get them (in above question) as alternative X's???

I just need to compress and decompress a block of data without much options. (it must be gzip as its the same format used by another mine C# program (the data is to be shared)) Tried to search to no avail... Thanks!

  • Actionscript flex: Converting # colors to uint

    - by Daryl
I'm working with several components that take color as a uint, but the colors I have are in the format of "#161616". I'm not sure what the relation between the 2 types of colors are or how to go from one to another. It doesn't have to be an actionscript solution. I have only a small number of these colors, so can be done manually too.

  • Detect iphone region

    - by camilo
Hi. In my app, the user is supposed to insert a phone number, which is then displayed somewhere else. In the contacts application, when displaying a phone number, it automatically appears in the format of the language selected by the user. Is there a way to do this automatically, or a way to detect the region and then adapt the displayed string?

  • Scalable images in Java

    - by CodeGuy
I anticipate using some images in my Java application. These images will be drawn onto my JPanel using g.drawImage(). The JPanel is resizable and the images should scale as the JPanel increases/decreases in size Two questions: What image format is best for this type of desired scalable image? For instance, in this application, an image of size 100x100 may be scaled into an image of size 30x30 or 10x10 or 300x300. How can I write code to do this scaling?
