  • A non interactive alternative to makecert.

    - by mark
Dear ladies and sirs. I have a need to create a self signed certificate non interactively. Unfortunately, the only tool that I know of (makecert) is interactive - it uses GUI to ask for a password. My OS is Windows (from XP to 2008). The only thing close that I managed to find is http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/125982/How-to-run-Makecert-without-password-window.aspx, however, it is still not good. Any ideas?

  • triple duplicate acknowledgement in TCP congestion control

    - by Salvador Dali
If this doesn't belong here, please tell me where is an appropriate place for such question. I am trying to understand ideas behind tcp congestion control mechanisms, and I am failing to understand why we need triple duplicate acknowledgement to trigger window change. In my opinion, double duplicate acknowledgement will be enough to get that the previous package is lost. So why we need the third ack?

  • Alternative Windows shell?

    - by user17943
I can't stand the Windows "shell". I can't copy text off a command prompt window, the .bat syntax is retarded, I can't stand how the command buffer works, it doesn't support ANSI color codes, I could go on and on. Are there any alternatives to the Windows command prompt (please, do not answer "Linux".)

  • How to shrink the Remote Desktop Connection Bar in Windows?

    - by Some Noob Student
Ever since FireFox 4, page tabs have been moved to the top of the window. This gets pretty irritating when surfing the net through a remote desktop session. Often when I want to switch tabs, if I accidentally move my mouse a little to much to the top, I get the remote desktop connection bar blocking the tabs instead, then I'd have to wait a few frustrating seconds before it disappears again. So, are there any methods to shrink or shorten the remote desktop connection bar or delay the appearance of it?

  • Kernel Log "TCP: Treason uncloaked!"

    - by hurikhan77
On one linux server (Gentoo hardened), we are experiencing bursts of the following messages in dmesg from time to time: TCP: Treason uncloaked! Peer xx.xx.xxx.xxx:65039/80 shrinks window 4094157295:4094160199. Repaired. Is there anything we should take care of or is this normal? Update: Maybe related, we are using net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = cubic. Kernel version is 2.6.28 with Gentoo hardening patches.

  • GIMP: Slightly wrong color when saving images

    - by chris_l
When I create a new image, fill it with a single color, and save it as *.png or *.jpeg, it gets a slightly wrong color. When I save it as *.gif, the color is correct. Does this have something to do with a color profile? How can I turn it off? (Gimp 2.6.7 on Mac) BTW, when I use "Digital Color Meter" to check the color in the GIMP window, I also get a wrong value - but that value is again a little bit different.

  • Clear Fillable Online PDF Files

    - by May
I filled in an online pdf form. After I finished, I closed the window thinking that the form will clear itself since I didn't save it. When I went back to the website and clicked on the form again, it still had the information that I entered. Other than manually deleting all the information on the form, is there another way of clearing the form?

I mean, different packages use total different naming specification. Here are the major questions: Why there are ubuntu in them, and there are not? what all the special -~+ mean? alpha and build, dfsg, what are they? Can I just use them casually? vim and other packages have 2:, what does that mean? How version comparison works, since they can be so different? Can anyone please explain this to me? Or where can I find an official document? Thanks in advance.

  • What's the difference between Defaults and Properties when changing cmd.exe or PowerShell's settings?

    - by mmm bacon
I want to change the font used by both cmd.exe and PowerShell. When I right click in the window border, I see both Defaults and Properties: What's the difference? One would think Defaults was for all sessions, and Properties was for the current session. However, changes to Properties are persisted even after relaunching cmd.exe. Another problem is that changing the font in either Defaults or Properties doesn't actually change the font. This is on Windows 8.

  • Mac OS X Sub Folders of Applications?

    - by Christopher Gwilliams
Quite a hard question to phrase but I know there is an Applications folder in the Dock, above that being programs pinned to the dock, with a dot showing that they are open. Is there a way to organise these pinned applications into folders on the dock (such as 'Word Processing', 'Development' etc) so clicking the folder shows the apps inside and gives it focus when its open and the window is minimised the icon within that folder? So instead of having like 20 apps on the dock, you have 3 folders, with the apps inside?
