• Unable to connect to second name of Windows 2008 Server R2 machine from XP

  I used the command netdom computername /add:newname.domainname.com to add a second name to a server running Windows 2008 Server R2. After restarting the server, I had DNS "A" entries for both names. In addition, the second name was added to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters\OptionalNames, which I believe should have taken care of any NetBIOS resolution. From my Windows 7 workstation, I can ping both names and running net view on both names reveals the same list of resources. From Windows XP, I can ping both names, but net view only works on the first name. Running net view on the second name returns: System error 52 has occurred. You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again. What do I need to do to make the second name usable from XP clients? Update: I was able to resolve the problem by adding the REG_DWORD key DisableStrictNameChecking = 1 to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters, then restarting the Server service. However, I do not understand why this was necessary.

• Choosing local versus public domain name for Active Directory

  What are the pros and cons of choosing a local domain name such as mycompany.local versus a publicly registered domain name such as mycompany.com (assuming that your org has registered the public name)? When would you choose one over the other? UPDATE Thanks to Zoredache and Jay for pointing me to this question, which had the most useful responses. That also led me to find this Microsoft Technet article, which states: It is best to use DNS names that are registered with an Internet authority in the Active Directory namespace. Only registered names are guaranteed to be globally unique. If another organization later registers the same DNS domain name, or if your organization merges with, acquires, or is acquired by other company that uses the same DNS names, then the two infrastructures cannot interact with one another. Note Using single label names or unregistered suffixes, such as .local, is not recommended. Combining this with mrdenny's advice, I think the right approach is to use either: Registered domain name that will never be used publicly (e.g. mycompany.org, mycompany.info, etc). Subdomain of an existing public domain name which will never be used publicly (e.g. corp.mycompany.com). The "never used publicly" part is a business decision so its probably best to get sign off from those in the company authorized to reserve domain names and subdomains. E.g. you don't want to use a registered name or subdomain that the marketing dept later wants to use for some public marketing campaign.

• JBOSS 7.1 started hanging after 6 months of deployment

  My application is been live from 6 months. The application is host on jboss 7.1 server. From last few days I am finding numerous problem of hanging of jboss server. Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. Can anyone please let me know what could be the cause of these problems and the workable resolutions or any suggestion ? Kindly dont degrade the question as I am facing a lot problems due to this hanging issue. Also for the information, the application is based on Java, GWT, Hibernate 3. • Need to add an array into another array at a specified key value

  Ok, I have an array like so, but it's not guaranteed to be laid out in this order all of the time... $array = array( 'sadness' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'value', ), 'happiness' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'the value', ), 'peace' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'the value', ) ); Ok, and I'd like to throw in this array right after the happiness key is defined. I can't use the key of "peace" since it must go directly after happiness, and peace might not come after happiness as this array changes. So here's what I need to add after happiness... $another_array['love'] = array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'the value of love' ); So the final output after it gets inputted directly after happiness should look like this: $array = array( 'sadness' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'value', ), 'happiness' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'the value', ), 'love' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'the value of love', ), 'peace' => array( 'info' => 'some info', 'info2' => 'more info', 'value' => 'the value', ) ); Can someone please give me a hand with this.   I erroneously wrote this code in python: name = input("what is your name?") if name == "Kamran" or "Samaneh": print("That is a nice name") else: print("You have a boring name ;)") It always prints out "That is a nice name" even when the input is neither "Kamran" nor "Samaneh". Am I correct in saying that it considers "Samaneh" as a true? why? By the way, I already noticed my mistake. The correct form is: if name == "Kamran" or name == "Samaneh":

• SQL SERVER – What is Fill Factor and What is the Best Value for Fill Factor

  Working in performance tuning area, one has to know about Index and Index Maintenance. For any Index the most important property is Fill Factor. Fill factor is the value that determines the percentage of space on each leaf-level page to be filled with data. In an SQL Server, the smallest unit is a page, which is made of  Page with size 8K. Every page can store one or more rows based on the size of the row. The default value of the Fill Factor is 100, which is same as value 0. The default Fill Factor (100 or 0) will allow the SQL Server to fill the leaf-level pages of an index with the maximum numbers of the rows it can fit. There will be no or very little empty space left in the page, when the fill factor is 100. I have written following two article about Fill Factor. • Writing the correct value in the depth buffer when using ray-casting

  I am doing a ray-casting in a 3d texture until I hit a correct value. I am doing the ray-casting in a cube and the cube corners are already in world coordinates so I don't have to multiply the vertices with the modelviewmatrix to get the correct position. Vertex shader world_coordinate_ = gl_Vertex; Fragment shader vec3 direction = (world_coordinate_.xyz - cameraPosition_); direction = normalize(direction); for (float k = 0.0; k < steps; k += 1.0) { .... pos += direction*delta_step; float thisLum = texture3D(texture3_, pos).r; if(thisLum > surface_) ... } Everything works as expected, what I now want is to sample the correct value to the depth buffer. The value that is now written to the depth buffer is the cube coordinate. But I want the value of pos in the 3d texture to be written. So lets say the cube is placed 10 away from origin in -z and the size is 10*10*10. • WPF DataGrid using a DataGridTemplateColumn rather than a DataGridComboBoxColumn to show selected value at load

  My problem was that using a DataGridComboBoxColumn I couldn’t get it to show the selected value when the DataGrid loaded.  Instead, the user would have to click in the cells and like magic, the current selected values would appear and it looked the way I wanted it to on load. • Choosing an open source license such that maximum value is added to a startup

  There are many companies that produce open source software products, and many business models that these companies can use. I'm particularly interested in companies like 280 North, the company behind Objective-J and Cappucino frameworks. My understanding of this organization's business model is that they: worked to develop a tool which added significant value to developers, released the tool under an open source license, built a community around the tool (which was helped by the project's open source licensing), created interesting demos illustrating the project's value All of these things added value to the project, and the company that owned it. Finally, 280 North was sold to Motorola. My question has to do with the role of software licensing in this particular business model. 280 North licensed their software projects under the LGPL, which gave them some proprietary control over how the project could be used. I believe that the LGPL is what's known as a "weak copyleft" license, meaning that the project can be linked to, without the linking code also being licensed under the LGPL; but software derived directly from the project would need to be licensed under the LGPL. For web-oriented libraries in particular, weak copyleft, or non-copyleft licensing seems to be quite common; I can't think of a single example of a popular or well-known web-oriented library that is licensed under the GPL (or AGPL). The question then, is, how much value would a weak copyleft license like the LGPL add to a software venture like 280 North, versus a non-copyleft license, such as the BSD license or the Apache Software License? I'd really appreciate any insight anyone can offer into this, but I'd be most interested in answers that can cite other companies as case studies or examples.

  I get this error when I try to run my app: 2010-04-29 13:49:01.355 MyApp[56123:207] *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSUnknownKeyException', reason: '[<MyViewController 0x5112b10> setValue:forUndefinedKey:]: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key toolbar.' MyViewController used to have an IBOutlet called 'toolbar' that connected to a UIToolbar object in a nib. I decided I no longer needed the toolbar or the nib so I removed them from the project. But Xcode seems to still want to refer to 'toolbar'. Where might the reference to toolbar be if I no longer use a nib? I can synthesize a dummy 'toolbar' property to appease Xcode, but I want to avoid this kind of ugly hack.

It was claimed that this code is "ugly" because it initializes a variable to a value that will never be read: String tempName = null; try{ tempName = buildFileName(); } catch(Exception e){ ... System.exit(1); } FILE_NAME = tempName; Is this indeed bad practice? Should one avoid initializing variables to dummy values that will never actually be used? (EDIT - And what about initializing a String variable to "" before a loop that will concatenate values to the String...? Or is this in a separate category? e.g. String whatever = ""; for(String str : someCollection){ whatever += str; } )

  I have a problem with the FBX SDK. I read in the data for the vertex position and the uv coordinates. It works fine, but now I want to read for each polygon to which texture it belongs, so that I can have models with multiple textures. Can anyone tell me how I can get the texture name (file name) for my polygon.   Hello, The below code is from my other questions that I have asked here on SO. Everyone has been so helpful and I almost have a grasp with regards to RegEx but I ran into another hurdle. This is what I basically need to do in a nutshell. I need to take this line that is in a text file that I load into my content variable: X17.8Y-1.Z0.1G0H1E1 I need to do a wildcard search for the X value, Y value, Z value, and H value. When I am done, I need this written back to my text file (I know how to create the text file so that is not the problem). X17.8Y-1.G54G0T2 G43Z0.1H1M08 I have code that the kind users here have given me, except I need to create the T value at the end of the first line, and use the value from the H and increment it by 1 for the T value. For example: X17.8Y-1.Z0.1G0H5E1 would translate as: X17.8Y-1.G54G0T6 G43Z0.1H5M08 The T value is 6 because the H value is 5. I have code that does everything (does two RegEx functions and separates the line of code into two new lines and adds some new G values). But I don't know how to add the T value back into the first line and increment it by 1 of the H value. Can someone please modify my RegEx statement so I can do this automatically? I tried to combine my two RegEx statements into one line but I failed miserably.

• excel - generate a username from a full name field

  I'm trying to generate a username using a single name field in excel which has the person's first name and last name. I'm open to what the username would be, as long as its intuitive for the user. The name fields can be tricky, as the data looks like this: Albert Abongo (2 names) Stephen Michael Essuah Ackah (4 names) Alhaji Iddrisu Abdul-KArim (3 names) I guess my ideal usernames for these people would be aabongo sackah aabdul-karim
